Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 14, at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, with Pastor Bruce Klapp of the Abundant Life Chapel officiating. A time of visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 13, at the Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Abundant Life Chapel, Dows. A private family burial was held in the Grant Township, Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in rural Franklin County.

Lt. Col. Virgil I. Lunning (USAF, ret) of Hampton, born on January 14, 1921, in Brycelyn, Minnesota, died on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012, at the age of 91, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. He was the son of Harry E. and Lyda (Vekre) Lunning.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m., on Monday, June 4, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Art Zewert officiating. Interment, with full military honors provided by Offutt Air Force Base, will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, June 4, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, west of Des Moines.
