Dorothy Reyerson

September 5, 2012

Dorothy N. ReyersonDorothy N. Reyerson, 87, of Northwood, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., today Wednesday, September 5, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the services at the church.

Dorothy N. (Landass) Reyerson, was born on April 12, 1925, to Anna Längeland and Lars Landass in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She grew up in the Emmons, Minnesota area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Emmons Lutheran Church and attended Emmons School. On October 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Maurice Reyerson at the First Lutheran Church Parsonage in Albert Lea. Together, they had four daughters, while living on the Reyerson homestead, a Century Farm, raising cattle and milking cattle, then later added feeder cattle along with hogs, sheep, chickens and other various farm animals. They did all this throughout their entire married life while also farming the land.

Dorothy was an active member of the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, where she served on various committees and councils. She was active in the Albert Lea Moose Club and Eagles Lodge, where she served as an officer. She loved to visit friends, neighbors and family. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping with her husband and her family. She and Maurice also loved dining and dancing.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Marge (David) Tenold, Donna (Neil) Haugen, Joan (Tom) Vorland and Jean Hrubetz, all of Northwood, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael Brunsvold, Jacob Haugen, Ryne Isidora, Dustin Hrubetz and Jackie Hrubetz; great-grandchildren, Xander, Shlya and Leah Haugen, Jade and Patrick Isidora and Aubrey Hrubetz; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Landass and Vange Landass; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; her husband; her mother and father-in-law; brothers, Lloyd, Alfred and Oscar Landass; sisters, Myrtle Peterson, Martha Klukow, Lillian Hoyne and all their spouses; a grandson, Todd Brunsvold; one niece; and two nephews.

Anna Nieman

Anna Lynne Nieman, passed away at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Spanaway, Washington, on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the age of 83, following a brief illness.

Her inurnment took place on Wednesday, September 12, in the Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Washington. She was finally able to join her true love in life and beyond. She will no longer have to be lonely. Their vault is engraved with the inscription: Together Forever.

She was born on November 24, 1928 in Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania, to David and Margaret Craig. She was the ninth child born of 11 children and is survived by her sister, Jean Craig-Houston and her brother, Donald Craig.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Vern A. Nieman and only son, Craig A. Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Lyndean A. Nieman-Williams and grandchildren, Ryan Allen and Cameron Alexander Williams.

Darlene Johnson

September 12, 2012

Darlene Grace Johnson, 82, of rural Lyle, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 9, at 2:00 p.m., at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, with Rev. Ronald Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was on Saturday, September 8, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood and will be one hour prior to the services at the church.

Darlene was born on September 13, 1929 in Osage, Iowa, to Dennis and Gertrude (Merkel) Schultheis. She graduated from the Austin High School, Austin, Minnesota in 1947. She worked at Hormel at Austin in the payroll department for a total of 33 years. Darlene married DeVerne Johnson on September 28, 1952 in Austin.

Darlene enjoyed quilting, dancing, gardening, traveling and bus trips, spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed the Christmas season and the family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Amelia Grace Young; and brother, Dean Schultheis.

Darlene is survived by her husband, DeVerne of Lyle, Minnesota; three daughters, DeAnn (Roger) Scheffel of Lyle, Denise (Mark) Young of Knoxville, Iowa and Dawn Fenton of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Schultheis of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Sheldon Estes

September 19, 2012

Sheldon T. Estes, 75, peacefully died at his home after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, September 13, 2012, surrounded by his family. Sheldon was a lifelong resident of Northwood, currently living in Hanlontown.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 17, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery. Visitation was scheduled for Sunday, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Sheldon was born on December 17, 1936 in Worth County, Iowa, to William and Selma (Olson) Estes. He attended school at Kensett #2 until the eighth grade. Sheldon helped on the farm until 1959, when he was drafted into the Army. He drove truck and delivered ammunition out to the guns with the 92nd Artillery. He was discharged in 1961. Sheldon worked at the Sunset Rest Cemetery, helped on the farm and worked at the Northwood Elevator for 12 years. He was a great caretaker to his brother, Lloyd and both of his parents.

Sheldon loved his family and was well known for his video taping of family events. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and family. He had many special friends and neighbors.

Sheldon is survived by one sister, Sylvia (Merle) Peterson of Hanlontown; two brothers, Wayne (Dorothy) Estes of Northwood and Harold (Kathy) Estes of Crystal Lake; nephews, Kenny Estes of Northwood and Ricky Peterson of Mantorville, Minnesota; nieces, Darla Smidt of Jackson, Minnesota, Diane Simon of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Lisa Peckham of Minot, North Dakota, Tami Fish of Corwith and Julie Carlson of Ankeny; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and special friend, Marlene Lindley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cliffton, Gilman and Lloyd; and nephew, Richard.

Geraldine Kingsbury

October 10, 2012

Geraldine "Geri" Jane Kingsbury, 82, of Edna, Texas, died on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the Ganado Nursing & Rehab Center in Ganado, Texas.

A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 9, at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, with Pastor Wendi Gillan of the Northwood United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment was in the State Line Cemetery, rural Northwood. Visitation was one hour prior to the service time on Tuesday at the chapel.

Geraldine "Geri" Kingsbury, was born in Elgin, Iowa. Her father worked construction and the family lived in several towns during her growing up years. In the late 1950s she moved from Buffalo Center, Iowa, with her husband Leon to northern Minnesota. Through the 1970s she spent her time raising a daughter, being a good wife and was actively involved in the Methodist Church. In her later years, she remained in Minnesota enjoying her hobbies of reading, golfing and traveling, as well as remaining active in the church. She ended up in Texas living closer to her daughter as her health started to fail, until she passed into God’s hands.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patti Villarreal and husband, Daniel; two grandchildren, Paul Scipioni and Rose Scipioni; and seven sisters, Michaela "Mike" Clark, Rosalyn Nelson and husband, Howard, Nancy Beighley and husband, Roy, Sharon Rosen and husband, Orlyn, Linda Peterson and husband, Gordon, Randi Chico and husband, Steve and Denise Knutson and husband, Ronald.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Leon Kingsbury; father, Lewis Monnahan; and mother, Andean Anne "Ellen" Monnahan.
