Doris
E. Hanson, 92, of Northwood,
died on Tuesday, December 4,
2012, at the Lutheran Retirement
Home, Northwood.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, December 7, at 1:00
p.m., at the Deer Creek Lutheran
Church, Carpenter, Iowa, with
Rev. Lance Kittleson
officiating. Burial was in the
Deer Creek Cemetery, Carpenter.
Visitation was on Thursday,
December 6, from 4-7:00 p.m., at
the Schroeder & Sites Funeral
Home, Northwood.
Doris was born on August 2, 1920
in Newburg Township, Mitchell
County, Iowa, to Albert and
Selma (Grapp) Kirchgatter. She
graduated from the Carpenter
High School. Doris married Elmer
S. Hanson on May 12, 1940 in
Reinbeck, Iowa. They spent their
married life around the
Carpenter area and retired to
Northwood in 1974. After owning
and operating the Chat’n Chew in
Northwood, Doris worked at the
Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood for over 20 years.
Doris was very active in the
Deer Creek Lutheran Church,
always being the hostess. She
was an avid gardener and truly
loved life.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Elmer in 1974;
brothers, Lloyd, Melbourne and
LaVern; and sisters, Ruth Braun
and Alice Smith.
Doris is survived
by two sons, Verne (Ellen)
Hanson of Indianapolis, Indiana
and Darwin (Diane) of Swaledale,
Iowa; a daughter, Myrna (Ron)
Jensen of Mason City; 12
grandchildren; and 22
great-grandchildren.

Ida Roisen

Ida
May Roisen, 78, of Britt,
formerly of Northwood, died on
Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at
the Israel Family Hospice House
in Ames.
A
memorial service will be held at
1:00 p.m., on Thursday, December
20, at the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood, with Pastor
Judy Converse officiating.
Visitation will be one hour
prior to the services on
Thursday at the church.
Inurnment will be held in the
South Shell Rock Cemetery, rural
Northwood. The Conner Colonial
Chapel, Northwood, is in charge
of the arrangements.
Ida May Roisen, was born on
August 5, 1934, the sixth child
of Martin and Ida (Fenney)
Roisen, on a farm in rural
Northwood. Ida attended school
for the blind in Vinton, Iowa
and worked for 20 years as a
shelter worker in Garner and
also lived at Duncan Heights,
near Garner. She was baptized at
the Bethany Lutheran Church in
Kensett and became a member of
the First Lutheran Church in
Northwood.
Ida was a very sociable person
and liked to visit with her
family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory
are her brother, Benjamin (Dobbie)
Roisen of Sunnyvale, California;
brother-in-law, Luverne Ensley
of Ogden; cousins, Margaret
(Glen) Bendickson of Lonsdale,
Minnesota, Orrion (Sandra)
Roisen of Albert Lea, Minnesota,
Carol (Randolph) Clark of
Sabula, Karen (John) Clayburg of
Coon Rapids, Ethel (Stephen)
Jordan of Orange, California and
Allen Hauberg of Greenville,
Ohio; and many nieces, nephews,
as well as many other extended
family members and friends.
Ida was preceded
in death by her parents; three
sisters, Sylvia Johnson, Mildred
Ensley and Agnes Reece-Reich;
and two brothers, Maynard and
Wilfred Roisen.

Robert "Bob" Millard
December 12, 2012
Robert
Loren "Bob" Millard, 86, of
Northwood, died on Wednesday,
December 5, 2012, at the St.
Mary’s Hospital in Rochester,
surrounded by his children.
A
celebration of Bob’s life will
be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Friday, December 14, at the
First Lutheran Church,
Northwood, with Pastor Judy
Converse officiating. Inurnment
will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason
City, with military honors
conducted by members of the Our
Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779
of Northwood. Visitation will be
held one hour prior to the
service time on Friday at the
church. Should friends desire,
memorial contributions may be
made to the Mayo Hospital Cancer
Research Center, or to the
charity of ones choice in his
memory.
Robert Loren Millard, was born
on June 24, 1926 in Mason City,
the son of Chester and Hazel (Fister)
Millard. Bob received his
education in the Hanlontown
Community Schools, graduating
from the Hanlontown High School.
Bob met his future wife,
Marcielle Elaine "Marty" Rowe at
the Roller City in Mason City
and after his honorable
discharge from the Navy they
were united in marriage on
February 15, 1948 in Mason City.
Bob was inducted into the Navy
on March 12, 1946 and served his
country honorably and faithfully
until his discharge in February
1948. After their marriage, the
family farmed in the Northwood
area for over 50 years until his
retirement in 2006.
Bob loved walleye fishing and
took many trips fishing in
northern Minnesota, South Dakota
and Canada, with his family on
summer vacations. Bob also
enjoyed golf and couples bridge
with his wife, Marty and men’s
day golf, bowling in his earlier
years and wintering in southern
Texas. Bob was a member of the
First Lutheran Church, a former
treasurer and usher at the
church. Bob was also a member of
the Northwood Country Club.
Left to cherish his memory are
his children, Jillanne Millard
of Rochester, Minnesota, Amy
(Bob) Bulver of Owatonna,
Minnesota and JoEllen (Dave) Uhl
of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; four
grandchildren, Jesse Bachtle,
Jordan Bachtle-Robinson and
Taylor and Katelyn Uhl; one
great-granddaughter, Cadence
Robinson-Wright; two brothers,
Warren Millard of Mason City and
Chester Millard, Jr. of
Northwood; and his sister, Ardis
Kocimski of Chicago, Illinois;
as well as other nieces, nephews
and many other extended family
members and friends.
Bob was preceded
in death by his parents, Chester
and Hazel Millard; his wife,
Marcielle Elaine "Marty" Millard
who died on May 21, 2012; and
two children, Kathy and Michael
Millard.

Terri Iverson

Terri
Lynn Iverson, 47, of Northwood,
died on Saturday, December 8,
2012, at her home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be held at
1:30 p.m., on Thursday, December
13, at the Silver Lake Lutheran
Church, Silver Lake, Iowa.
Pastor Randy Baldwin will
officiate. Visitation will be
held one hour prior to the
service time at the church.
Interment will be in the Silver
Lake Cemetery. Memorials are
preferred in lieu of flowers.
Terri was born on February 21,
1965 in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
She graduated high school and
from Minnesota West Tech College
in Jackson, Minnesota.
She enjoyed cooking and baking
and spent many hours looking
through cookbooks. She also had
a good eye for decorating.
Terri is survived by her mother,
Valie Iverson of Albert Lea;
children, Christopher (Jessie
Wright) Reyerson of Silver Lake,
Minnesota, Kerri (David) Dawson
of Northwood and their father,
Keith Reyerson; one
granddaughter, Ryli Dawson; one
brother, Timothy Iverson of
Albert Lea, Minnesota; one
sister, Traci (Vaughn) Corwin of
Windom, Minnesota; and nieces
and nephews, Trevor Iverson,
Shelbi Iverson, Raechel Holty,
Tabatha (Luke) Anderson, Mara
Buhr, Lauren Buhr, Hunter Corwin
and Harley Corwin; as well as
several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
She was preceded
in death by her grandparents,
Oscar (Berneice) Jensen and
Gordon (Deloris) Iverson.

Leola "Lee" Berding

Leola
"Lee" Berding, 81, of Chester,
South Dakota, passed away
peacefully on Tuesday, December
11, 2012, surrounded by her
family, from complications of a
stroke.
A
Time of Remembrance with the
family present was held from
1-4:00 p.m., on Sunday, December
16, at the Minnehaha Funeral
Home in Colton, South Dakota.
Memorial services will be held
at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday,
January 5, 2013, at the
Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Kensett, Iowa.
Lee was born on February 15,
1931 at Kensett, Iowa, to
parents Carl and Hazel (Crippen)
Jaspers. She lived her first 18
years around Kensett. Lee then
married Victor Berding and they
moved to Sheffield, Iowa, where
they raised five children. After
all five kids were gone, she
boldly went to make her own way
in life and was successful and
happy. The early 80s found her
living in the Minneapolis/St.
Paul area, thoroughly enjoying
big city living. It was there,
about 20 years ago, that she met
her last love, Steve Sater and
became his significant other and
he her’s. As Steve kept
accepting better job offers, she
found herself leaving the city
life and never looked back. They
moved to rural central
Minnesota, North Dakota and
finally to the Colton, South
Dakota area, where they found
themselves drawn to living on
the shores of Brant Lake. To
both of them this was truly
heaven on earth.
Lee had many interests and
careers. She owned the 65 Drive
Inn Restaurant and Unique
Antique Boutique on the Highway
65 Turnpike in Sheffield, Iowa.
She loved buying and selling
antiques. She also had
intermittent careers as a
Tupperware salesperson and
manager, as well as a teacher’s
aid and librarian, while raising
her children and being an
exceptional homemaker. Lee also
enjoyed playing cards, boating,
cooking, home decorating and
traveling.

life are her children, Victoria

Chester, South Dakota, Renee
(Rich) Strottman of Waterloo,
Iowa, Hal (Gerilynn) Berding of
