Bette Ann Muth
April 14, 1938 - October 1, 2012

Bette Ann Muth, 74, of Garner, died on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, October 4, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner, with Pastor Dale Glawatz officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Concord Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Bette Ann Muth Memorial Fund.

Bette Ann Muth, the daughter of Delmar and Maxine (Ziesmer) Arnold, was born on April 14, 1938 in Garner. She attended the Garner High School. She was married to Charles A. Goll and to this union six children were born. They later divorced. Bette Ann worked various jobs in Garner while raising her children. On May 31, 1997, she was married to Roger Muth at McIntosh Woods in Clear Lake.

She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and camping. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and LWML.

Bette Ann is survived by her husband, Roger of Garner; three children, Christopher (Holly) Goll of Garner, Robert (Patty) Goll of Ankeny and Sherrie (Brad) Fandel of Garner; step-daughter, Marta (Al) Eenhuis of Mason City; step-son, Mike (Moni) Muth of Britt; twelve grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twins, Donald and Donna; and son, Edward Goll in 2002.

Corrine Ausborn
December 30, 1940 - October 5, 2012

Corrine L. Ausborn, 71, of Britt, died on Friday, October 5, 2012, at her home in Britt surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 9, at the First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m., on Monday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Corrine Ausborn Memorial Fund.

Corrine Lois Ausborn, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Carolus) Noble, was born on December 30, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended school at Garner. On February 1, 1957, she was married to Donald Ausborn at the United Methodist Church in Garner. They lived in Klemme where they raised their family. In April of 1997 she moved to Britt. Corrine had worked as a part-time waitress for thirty years. She was very devoted to her family.

Corrine enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering, gardening and making candles. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt.

Corrine is survived by her children, Cindy Jo (Merlyn) Brown of Kanawha, James (Patty) Ausborn of Webster City, John Ausborn of Fairmont, Minnesota, Gary (Angela) Ausborn of Britt and David Ausborn of Duncombe; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Deloris Riherd of Kanawha; a brother, Cecil (Mary) Noble of Garner; a sister-in-law, Nellie Ausborn of Belmond; two brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Ausborn of Ames and Larry Smith of Whittier, California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 2006; son, Lee Ausborn in 1959; brother, Bill Noble in 1966; sister, Harriet Smith in 2008; brothers-in-law, Harvey, Ervin and Leonard Ausborn and Thomas Riherd; and sister-in-law, Mildred Ausborn.

George Alke
July 27, 1918 - October 8, 2012

George F. Alke, 94, of Britt, died on Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, October 11, at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church, Hospice of North Iowa or the American Cancer Society.

George Frederick Alke, the son of George and Anna (Assink) Alke, was born on July 27, 1918 near Titonka. He attended the rural schools of Kossuth County until the eighth grade and helped his family on the farm. George was drafted into the U.S. Army, but then received a hardship discharge due to his father's death. On February 8, 1944, he married Verna Holck at the First Lutheran Church in Britt. They farmed south of Titonka until 1983 when they retired and moved into Britt. In May of 2002, they moved to the Summit House in Britt. George entered the Westview Care Center in October of 2011 due to health reasons.

He enjoyed woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, singing and playing cards. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt and former member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. George served on the church council for both churches and sang in the men's choir at Good Hope Lutheran Church.

George is survived by his daughter, Jan (John) Hana of Garner; granddaughter, Jennifer (Michael) Dillon of Denver, Colorado; three sisters, Ann (Gerald) Radig of Algona, Ida Thacker of Laguna Woods, California and Mary (Al) Schwandt of Overland Park, Missouri; a brother, William "Bud" (Lois) Alke of Osage; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna on March 7, 2005; brothers, John and Hank Alke; and sisters, Christina Seegebarth and Vollina Michaelsen.

Lorraine E. Buckley
April 4, 1937 - October 9, 2012

Lorraine E. Buckley, 75, of Garner, died on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at her home in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner, with Revs. Janet Rieckhoff-Faris and Ed Bard officiating. Following the service her body will be cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme. Visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.

Lorraine Ethel Buckley, the daughter of Herman and Ethel (Schoenwetter) Meyer, was born on April 4, 1937 on a farm west of Klemme. She attended the Liberty No. 9 country school and graduated from the Klemme High School in 1955. Lorraine continued her education at Iowa State Teacher's College. On October 5, 1962, she was married to Billy Buckley at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. They lived in Forest City where Lorraine raised their family and worked as a seamstress at home. She also worked at Pamida in Forest City until her retirement in 1994. After her husband Bill's death in 1999, Lorraine continued to live in Forest City until moving to Garner in 2005.

She enjoyed her family, visiting with her friends, cross-stitching, doing craft work and camping. She was a member of the Klemme United Methodist Church, UMW, South Liberty Homemakers and the Red Hat Society.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Cheri (Mark) Prohaska of Garner and Cindy (H.A.) Gross of Stuart, Iowa; five grandchildren, Sara (Luke) Olson of Urbandale, Brad Prohaska of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Melissa Glenn of Billings, Montana, Jaret Cook of Billings, Montana and Hailey Gross of Stuart; a great-grandson, Marley; a brother, Herman Richard (Pat) Meyer of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jean (Dennis) Hansen of Whiteville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; and a brother, Alvin Meyer.

Gladys L. Barz

October 31, 2012

Gladys L. Barz, age 91, of Waterloo, died on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, November 1, at the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 9:30–10:30 a.m., on Thursday, at the Church. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys was born on February 5, 1921 in Crystal Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Mervin and Lillian Davis Frogg. She was a graduate of the Crystal Lake High School. She was united in marriage with Evert Barz on December 8, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1992. Gladys worked for the Rath Packing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1981.

She was member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Priscilla Circle for over 60 years, the Elklets, Waterloo Mother’s Chorus and the Waterloo Woman’s Golf League.

Survivors include a son, James (Patty) Barz of Cape Coral, Florida; 2 daughters, Carol Laylin of Waterloo and Joan (Gene) Westemeier of Sun City, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Grace Kluver of Britt and Garnet Noltensmeier of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Evert; a grandson, James William Laylin; and a sister, Susie Hansen.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice, Waterloo, Iowa.

Arlo L. Smith
July 15, 1938 - October 30, 2012

Arlo L. Smith, 74, of Garner, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner, with Rev. Ed Bard, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa officiating. A flag presentation will be conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral chapel on Saturday. The Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Arlo Leroy Smith, the son of Arlo "Pete" and Dora (Carter) Smith, was born on July 15, 1938 at Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from the Montrose High School in 1956. On June 27, 1959, he married Orla Jane Andersen. They made their home in Montrose where Arlo worked for the city as public works director. Arlo served his country in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 being stationed in Germany. Following his discharge, Arlo and Orla returned to Iowa and in 1980 moved to Garner. Arlo was employed by the city of Garner in the public works department as street supervisor until his retirement in 2000.

He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's activities, woodcarving, chair caning, playing cards, bowling, playing baseball in his younger years and going to auctions. He also was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of the Edwin Jante VFW Post 5515 in Garner and the Eagle's Club in Ft. Madison.

Arlo is survived by his wife, Orla of Garner; four children and their families, Dane Smith of Waterloo, Shane Smith of Urbandale and his two children, Sinjin and Sage, Nickki (Michael) Oborny of Garner and their two sons, Skylar and Austin and George (Tara) Smith of Garner and their three sons, Chase, Reece and Carson; two sisters, Pat (Maurice) Moore of Montrose and Rose Heidbreder of Montrose; and a brother, Paul (Faylene) Smith of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Danny Smith.
