Myrtle Rose

March 14, 2012

Myrtle Rose, age 91, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, March 7,  at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with a 2:00 p.m. graveside service in the Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls Garden Club or to the family.

Myrtle Arlene Rose, was born on November 25, 1920 in Ventura, the daughter of Wilson and Mary (Skovgarrd) White. She graduated from the Garner High School and attended Hamilton's College. On May 18, 1949, Myrtle was united in marriage to Richard Rose at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Myrtle had worked at the Hancock County Courthouse, Purina, and cafeteria at the Iowa Falls High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was a member of UMW and the Iowa Falls Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Mary Miller and her husband, Meredith of Marshalltown; a son, Doug Rose and his wife, Anne of Waterloo; 2 grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Fogle and her husband, Ben and Mary Christina Lowry and her husband, Nate; three great-grandchildren, Landen and Garrett Fogle and Morgan Lowry; and a brother, Robert White and his wife, Joanne of Ventura.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and a sister Ruth in infancy.

Helen A. Boman
August 30, 1925 - March 6, 2012

Helen A. Boman, 86, of Garner, formerly of Forest City, passed on to eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, March 9, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of Central Iowa or the Boone County Hospital Foundation.

Helen Arlene Boman, the daughter of Leonard and Anna (Rasmussen) Nelson, was born on August 30, 1925 at Forest City. She graduated from the Forest City High School in1943 and continued her education at Bemidji State Teacher's College. On August 20, 1948, she was married to Milton Boman at the First Baptist Church in Forest City. They made their home on a farm east of Forest City where they raised their three children. Besides helping on the farm, Helen taught school, worked at the hospital in Mason City and operated her own maternity store, "Mr. Stork", in Mason City and Waterloo. She was an entrepreneur and progressive woman, well ahead of her time. After retiring, Helen and Milton moved to Garner.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and was an avid collector. She will always be remembered for her charismatic smile and loving devotion to her family and her compassion and kindness to others. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Dorcas Circle.

Helen is survived by her husband, Milton of Madrid; three children, Cynthia (Bob) Cramer of Boone, Wesley (Cherie) Boman of Klemme and Trudy (Thomas) Burford of Johnston; grandchildren, Reynolds, John (Gina) and Erika Cramer, Sally (Michael) Lynick, Katie and Betsy Boman, Thomas Ryan (Tiffany) and Anna Burford; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Kruta of Minnesota and Marion (Herbert) Amundson of Mason City; an aunt, Ardis Anderson of Forest City; and nieces and nephews.

Cathy Ann Haugen

March 14, 2012

Cathy Ann Haugen, 64, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. A Visitation was held on Monday, March 12, from 5–7:00 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Cathy was born on September 23, 1947 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Bernice (Rausch) Carrington. She graduated from the St. Mary’s High School in Storm Lake. Following high school, Cathy graduated from cosmetology school. Cathy owned and operated Cathy’s Curl Harbor. For the past 20 plus years, Cathy managed the Muskie Lounge in Ventura. Cathy also managed the Golden Goose and Waterfront. Cathy married Keith Haugen on New Year’s Eve 1994. They were remarried on Friday, March 2, 2012.

Cathy enjoyed and was very proud of her grandchildren. She enjoyed working with them at the Muskie. She also enjoyed having the kids over to bake Christmas candy. Cathy enjoyed her trips with her California cousins and her best friend, Sue. Cathy planned a family and friends reunion every summer. She was the one person who kept the family together. Cathy also enjoyed going to the casinos and shopping. Cathy was raised in the Catholic Church.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Keith Haugen of Clear Lake; children, Travis (Theresa) Glidden of Garner, Matt Glidden of Clear Lake and Mark (Lisa) Glidden of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Cody, Autumn, Tristin and Ty Glidden of Garner, Cassie and Callie Glidden and Alex, Shae and Rhys Glidden of Clear Lake; sister, Connie (Bob) Bird of Clear Lake; and nieces, Jackie (Matt) Firsching of Mason City and Kelly (Jay) Kuns of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and also four step-children and five step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Regina Ann Ryan
September 11, 1913 - March 9, 2012

Regina "Jean" Ryan, 98, of Garner, died on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, March 12, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 2:00 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hancock County Relay for Life or the School Sisters of Notre Dame at Mankato.

Regina "Jean" A. Ryan, the youngest of twelve children of John and Mary (Elbert) Henry, was born on September 11, 1913, on a farm near Whittemore. She graduated from the Presentation Academy in Whittemore in 1932. After graduating from high school she worked as a secretary in various businesses in Kossuth County and as an office manager at the Bowen Food Stores in Forest City. On February 7, 1948, she was married to Raymond J. Ryan at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whittemore. They made their home in Garner, where they raised their two daughters, Mary and Kathleen. Besides being a homemaker, Jean also worked in the office at her husband's veterinary clinic in Garner.

She enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino and playing bridge. She will always be remembered by her family as a great cook and baker. Jean was always interested in following and being part of the life events of her grandchildren. In recent years, she was very delighted when her great-grandchildren visited and she could watch their playful antics. She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, past member of the Hancock County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and several bridge clubs.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dr. Raymond Ryan of Garner; two daughters, Mary (Roger) Kopacek of Britt and Kathleen (Pat) McCabe of Mankato, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kara Steffensmeier, Andrew Kopacek, Ryan McCabe, Joseph (Virginia) McCabe and Jonathan McCabe; and four great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew and Aidan Steffensmeier and Gisele McCabe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and five sisters.

Florence Fisher
February 15, 1932 - March 11, 2012

Florence Margaret Fisher, died at her home in Corwith, on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the age of 80.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 16, at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with the Rev. Beatrice Kinzzler officiating. Burial was in the Corwith Cemetery. The Oakcrest Funeral Services of Corwith, were in charge of the arrangements.

Florence was born on February 15, 1932, at Irvington, Iowa, to Adolph and Catherine (Lanners) Fisch. She graduated from the St. Cecelia Academy on May 22, 1949, and was married to Victor Fisher on February 20, 1950. Florence worked at Snap-On Tools in Algona for 22 years, retiring in 1993.

Florence enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, sewing and playing cards. She had an artistic ability with her drawing and enjoyed the outdoors, her flowers and bird watching.

Survivors include her children, Vicki and husband, David Wagner of Corwith, Jane and husband, Paul Bartelt of Forest City, Tom Fisher and wife, Diane of LuVerne and Lisa and husband, Bruce Hoover of Danville, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Weydert, Josephine Curran and Sally Besch; and brother, Matt Fisch.

Charley F. Waters
April 7, 1919  -  March 13, 2012

Charley F. Waters, 92, of Nora Springs, died on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, at the First Christian Church, Nora Springs, with the Reverend Glen Bandel officiating. Burial will be held in the Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday, March 16, at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Charley F. Waters Memorial Fund in care of his family.

Charley Waters, was born on April 7, 1919 at home in Floyd County, the son of Frank and Mary Emma (Stiller) Waters. He attended the Rock Grove School. On June 16, 1946, he was united to marriage to Ruth Bishop at the Christian Church in Nora Springs. Charley and Ruth were married for 13 years before their pride and joy of their life was born, Karen Sue. Charley was a farmhand and worked for Glenn Million, Dr. Bascom and Larry Horstman of Nora Springs. Charley never received any degrees but had the knack to fix cars and loved to do carpentry. He was always ready and willing to help anybody out.

Charley was a lifelong member of the Nora Springs Christian Church, serving in every capacity of the church along with filling the pulpit. He loved to play his violin or jew’s harp whenever anybody would visit him, but his greatest joy and love was his family. He enjoyed visits from Karen and her husband, Greg and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to tell them stories of his younger days.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Ruth Waters at the Nora Springs Care Center; beloved daughter, Karen (Greg) Nettifee of Garner; his beloved grandchildren, Eric Nettifee and fiancée, Shaada Mennear of Garner and Jeremy (Amber) Nettifee of Clear Lake; beloved great grandsons, Riley Nettifee and Hunter Lamfers; sisters-in-laws, Lorie Waters and Esther (Harry) Owzerak; brothers-in-law, Carroll (Joyce) Bishop and Jim Hibner; along with a host of nephews, nieces and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Waters; brothers, Clayton, Eli, Junior; sister, Cora; niece, Shari Hibner; and two infant great-nephews.

The Waters/Nettifee’s would like to thank all those who helped make Charley’s last year meaningful and comfortable. We cherish his memory together and look forward to a joyous heavenly reunion when we can say we are “finally home.” The family would like to say "thank you" to the Nora Springs Care Center for their excellent care, Mercy Hospital and the Hospice of North Iowa.

Dean L. Maley
March 5, 1928 - March 13, 2012

Dean L. Maley, 84, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died on Tuesday March 13, 2012, at the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 17, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, rural Garner, with military honors by the Garner V.F.W Post 5515. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel and then one hour before the services on Saturday at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Dean L. Maley memorial fund.

Dean was born on March 5, 1928 in Peetz, Colorado, the son of Lowell and Ester (Hand) Maley. He moved with his parents to Oregon and then to a farm N.E. of Garner. He graduated from the Ventura High School. Following high school he farmed with his father and later enlisted in the United States Army, serving during WW II in the Black Forrest in Germany. He married Irene Schultz on July 24, 1951, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Garner. Following the service he moved back to Clear Lake and worked for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Co., the City of Clear Lake and then Clear Lake Schools.

Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and telling jokes. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Maley of Clear Lake; two children, Rick (Sheila) Maley of Clear Lake and Jackie (Ray) Larson of LaSalle, Colorado; five grandchildren, Jason Maley, Cassie Maley, Ty Tuttle, Katie Larson and Kelly Larson; two brothers, Dale (Helene) Maley and Doug Maley, both of Garner and two sisters, Doris (Chuck) Earles of Britt and Donna (Tom) Corrick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law; and a niece and nephew.

Anthony F. Young
August 17, 1924 - March 20, 2012

Anthony "Tony" Young, 87, of Garner, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 24, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with Fr. Paul Lippstock officiating. Following the service, his body will be donated to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anthony Young Memorial Fund and will be directed to the Parkinson's Research Foundation and the American Heart Association.

Anthony Ferdinand Young, the son of Rudolph and Mary (Simper) Young, was born on August 17, 1924, on a farm west of Garner. He attended Garfield No. 7 near Garner and graduated from the Garner High School in 1942. After attending air craft metal working school in Minneapolis for a short time he returned home and entered the U.S. Army in 1944. Tony joined as an infantryman serving in the Pacific Theatre. On October 15, 1946, he married Mary Alice Thome at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, Iowa. Tony then was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict in 1950. Following his honorable discharge in 1951, he returned home to Garner and worked for Art Kramer Construction. Late in 1951, he joined Iowa Electric Light and Power Company where he worked as a gas and electric serviceman, a meter reader and an appliance repair man until his retirement in 1984.

He enjoyed his family, polka music, gardening, woodworking and sitting under "the roof". He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Garner VFW Post 5515.

Tony is survived by his wife, Mary Alice of Garner; six children, Rose Mary (Edward) Ruddy of Ft. Dodge, Barbara Jo (Tim) Gollaher of Fort Worth, Texas, Michael Young of Garner, Mark (Laura) Young of Larkspur, Colorado, Karen Ann (Doug) Beard of Floyd and Lawrence "Larry" (Jan) Young of Garner; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five brothers, Robert (Mildred) Young, Francis Young, Elmer Young, Carl (Dianne) Young and Richard (Sandy) Young, all of Garner; a sister-in-law, LoEtta Young of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Fern Chessman Young; sister, Mary Ann Stupka; brother, Raymond Young; brother-in-law, Raymond Stupka; and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Young and Shirlene Young.

John Carl Nygard
March 27, 1955 - March 23, 2012

John C. Nygard, 56, of Garner, died on Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John Carl Nygard, the son of Carl and Delila (Strom) Nygard, was born on March 27, 1955 at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He attended the Britt and Garner-Hayfield Community Schools. John continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College, where he received his GED and later graduated with an Associates in Applied Science Degree in Small Engine Technology. He returned to Garner where he was employed at North Iowa Grain and The Goodnature Store. John enjoyed bowling, church league softball and building plastic model cars.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner.

John is survived by his three brothers, Eugene (Lori) Nygard of Panama City, Florida, Charles Nygard of Garner and Neil Nygard of Garner; nieces, Kim, Tanya and Danielle Nygard and Christina Martinez; nephew, Joshua Nygard; and great-nieces, Kylan Nygard and Laurie and Emily Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rebecca Nygard.

Jeffrey D. Molencamp
July 8, 1960 - March 27, 2012

Jeffrey D. Molencamp, 51, of Garner, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, March 31, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Inurnment will be in the Peace Reformed Cemetery south of Garner. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Friday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Jeffrey Dean Molencamp, the son of Robert Dean and Georgia Ann (Dunahoo) Molencamp, was born on July 8, 1960 at Britt. He attended the Clear Lake Community Schools. After high school, Jeff worked in the construction business with his father, Bob, and later at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. Jeff then returned to construction and started his own business, Molencamp Builders, with his brother, Mickey, in 1999. On February 23, 1991, he married Gloria Lau at the Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. They lived in Garner all of their married life where they raised their family.

Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, boating, watercraft, bowling and traveling throughout the country by car. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Gloria of Garner; five children, Nicole Molencamp, Cassandra Molencamp, Cody Molencamp, Natasha Molencamp and Nicholas Molencamp, all of Garner; grandson, Carson; two brothers, Mark Molencamp of Garner and Mickey Molencamp of Garner; a sister, Deon Molencamp of Klemme; a special nephew, Tim Molencamp; nieces, Shawna and Lisa; a nephew, Gregory; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Vanetta Molencamp.
