Minnetta
Maxine Loebig, 97, of Marion, Iowa, died
Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Willow
Gardens, Marion. Funeral Mass: 11:00
a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion,
conducted by Rev. David O’Connor. Family
will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until
service time. Burial will take place at
a later date. Arrangement by Murdoch
Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Those left to cherish her memory are
daughters, Marilyn Duffy of
Merrillville, IN and Karen Williams of
Marion; son, Keith Loebig of Fountain
Valley, CA; brother, Royal Molander;
sister, Beverly McCormick both of
Garner, IA; nine grandchildren; and
sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband; two brothers, and
one son-in-law.
The daughter of Frederick and Clara
(Heimendinger) Molander, was born August
19, 1916, in Humboldt. She married Mike
Loebig on February 18, 1936, in Britt.
Minnetta was a homemaker for 28 years
and worked at Sears Roebuck for 18
years, retiring in 1979. She was a
member of the National Catholic Society
of Foresters for 60 years. After she and
Mike retired they traveled.
The family would like to extend a
special thank you to the staff and
volunteers at the Hospice of Mercy.
Minnetta was a special mother and
grandmother. She was loved and will be
greatly missed by her family and
friends.

Dale
E. Maley, 82, of Garner died Wednesday,
January 1, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center
- North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30
A.M., Monday, January 6th at the United
Presbyterian Church in Garner with Rev.
Justin Asche officiating. Burial will be
in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4
P.M., Sunday at the United Presbyterian
Church and will continue one hour prior
to services at the church. Cataldo
Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.
Dale E. Maley, the son of Lowell and
Esther (Hand) Maley, was born September
29, 1931 at Proctor, Colorado. He
attended school at Sydney, Nebraska and
graduated from Ventura High School.
Following high school, he worked for
various farmers in the area. On March
25, 1951 he married Helene Harbison at
the United Methodist Church in Belmond.
They lived in the Garner area all of
their married life. Dale was employed in
Garner at Harbison Grocery Store, the
Roller Mills, Garner Creamery and the
Garner-Hayfield Community School
District for 32 years as the Bus Barn
Mechanic and Bus Driver. He enjoyed
horseback riding, kids, tinkering,
camping and being on the go.
He was a member of the United
Presbyterian Church where he served as
an elder and an usher.
Dale is survived by his wife, Helene, of
Garner; two daughters, Kathy (Tom)
Murray of Iowa City and Julie (Maj Ret
Kevin) Larkin of Bettendorf; five
grandchildren, Angela, Adam and Wade
Murray and Jasa (Jacob) Clos and Jessica
(Michael) Clark; eight
great-grandchildren, Tristan, Cierra,
Barrett, Holden, Nicholas, Bella, Ruby
and Marley; a brother, Doug Maley of
Garner; two sisters, Doris (Chuck)
Earles of Britt and Donna (Tim) Corrick
of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister-in-law,
Irene Maley of Clear Lake; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
son, Brian Dale Maley in 1967; and a
brother, Dean Maley.
Raymond
Burras, 88, of Kanawha, passed away
Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Iowa
Specialty Hospital in Clarion.
Funeral services
for Raymond Burras will be held on
Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:30 AM at
St. Olaf Lutheran Church west of Belmond
with Pastor James Harbaugh, Jr.
officiating. Burial will be at Norway
Township Cemetery with military
graveside honors presented by the
Kanawha American Legion Post.
Visitation
will be held Friday, January 3, 2014
from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home,
1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and
will
continue one hour prior to the services
at the church on Saturday.
Raymond Norville
Burras was born August 3, 1925 to Carl
and Berthilda (Anderson) Burras on the
family farm south of Kanawha. Raymond
attended country schools in Norway
Township.
At age 17, Ray
enlisted in the United States Navy and
served on the U.S.S. Robinson, a
destroyer. Ray attended an annual
reunion held each year in various places
around the country. Ray also took part
in an Honor Flight trip in 2009, and was
an active member of the Kanawha American
Legion Post for many years.
Upon his
return from his military service, Ray
returned to his lifelong passion of
farming. Ray retired from farming in
1998, though he continued
to restore
antique tractors and attend tractor
rides for many years.
Ray was a very
active member of St. John’s Lutheran
Church south of Kanawha, and has
continued in that role as a member of
St. Olaf Lutheran Church since joining
that congregation.
Ray is
survived by his granddaughter, Jodie
(Phillip) Lee of Windsor Heights and
their triplet children Hannah, Bennett
and Alyssa;
daughter-in-law Joy Johnson of Cedar
Falls and her children Nick (Cali) Sorbe
and Adam Sorbe of Cedar Falls; sisters
Cora Spangler of Eagle Grove, Verna
Headrick of Sioux Falls, South Dakota
and Opal Neese of Creston; brother Roger
(Dorothy) Burras of Clarion; along with
numerous nieces and nephews, other
relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded
in death by his parents, his wife Margie
in 2011, his son Cal Johnson in 2012,
sister Arlene Burras, and brothers
Stanley Burras, Irving Burras, and
Carroll Burras.
WALBERT B MAYLAND

Walbert
B. Mayland, 96, of Britt died Monday,
December 23, 2013 at the Westview Care
Center in Britt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30
A.M., Saturday, December 28th at the
First Lutheran Church in Britt with
Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery with
military rites by Britt Veterans
Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7
P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home
in Britt and will continue one hour
prior to services at the church.
Walbert Bruno Mayland, the second of
twelve children of Fred and Etta (Bruns)
Mayland, was born July 11, 1917 on a
farm near Titonka. He was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He went
to church and school near Titonka and
worked as a hired man for area farmers.
On December 18, 1941, he married
Caroline Ella Meyer at Grant City, MO.
Walbert served his country during WW II
in the Army Air Force. Following his
honorable discharge, he returned home
and worked as a hired hand for Wiley
Weaver for 18 years. Walbert and
Caroline lived in the Klemme and Britt
area until 1968 when they moved into
Britt. In 1969, Walbert began working
for Marting Manufacturing. After his
retirement, he worked at the Eagles
Grove Sales Barn and outside on his lawn
and garden. Walbert enjoyed going to
horse sales and spending time with his
family.
He was a member of First Lutheran
Church, Britt American Legion and was a
former 4-H leader.
Walbert is survived by his children June
(Eldon) Asche of Kanawha, Wally (Gloria)
Mayland of Britt and Stanley Mayland of
Swea City; thirteen grandchildren;
twenty-three great-grandchildren;
twenty-seven great-great grandchildren;
a sister, Helen (Henry) Gremmer of
Britt; sisters-in-law, Ina Mayland of
Clear Lake and Beverly Mayland of Britt;
and many nieces and nephews.
Walbert was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Caroline, February 26,
2008; daughter, Esther Shannon; two
infant daughters, Caroline Ella and Mary
Ella Mayland; sons-in-law, George Earles
and Bob Shannon; a grandson, Michael
Mayland; and siblings, Herman, William,
Engaline, Jeanette, Ben, Henry Lewis,
Donald, Ernest, Erlene and Marie Ann.

ADRIAN
LAVERNE WOOD
November 17, 1979 - January 3, 2014
Adrian
LaVerne Wood’s life was cut short
tragically on Friday, January 3, 2014,
when he died in a car accident south of
Wahoo, Nebraska.
Adrian was the son of Stacy Wood who
graduated from Clarion High School in
1969 and was the grandson of Dr. Adrian
Wood who was a chiropractor in Clarion
for many years.
Adrian was born in LaJara, Colorado. He
spent his childhood in Salt Lake City,
Utah, and his teen years in Wahoo,
Nebraska. He was married in 1999 and was
a loving father to his two children.
Adrian and his family lived in Fremont,
Nebraska, until he moved to Garner,
Iowa, in 2011.
After spending a brief time in American
Falls, Idaho, Adrian returned to
Nebraska in 2013. Adrian’s life was fi
lled with hardship and trials, but
through it all our son fi lled our lives
with joy.
He was a devoted brother to Josiah, and
always had a loving heart, a contagious
laugh, and was quick to lend a hand to
those in need. Adrian’s children were
deeply important to him, and were a
motivating force behind the recent
positive changes in his life.
Adrian was living in Lincoln, Nebraska,
at the time of his death, and is
survived by his wife, Mary; son, Michael
(14); daughter, Brenda (9), all of
Omaha; father, Stacy and step-mother
Kate Wood of Salt Lake City, Utah;
mother, Susan and stepfather Rich
Westland of American Falls, Idaho;
brother, Josiah Wood of Garner, Iowa;
step-sister, Katie Straughbinger of St.
Louis, Missouri; step-brother, Jacob
Westland of Kansas City, Missouri;
paternal grandmother, Jacqueline Stuelke
of Hot Springs, Arkansas; maternal
grandfather, Kenneth Worley of St.
Louis, Missouri; mother-in-law, Tina
Kreizel; brother-in-law, John Fisher; as
well as numerous aunts, uncles, and
cousins; and many friends and anyone who
shared his love.
LUCILLE A.(Yegge)TOWNSEND

Lucille
A. (Yegge) Townsend, 95, was taken home
to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 5,
2014.
Lucille passed away very peacefully at
the Winterset Care Center South in
Winterset, Iowa, where she has resided
since June. She spent her final days
peacefully surrounded by her loving
family. A visitation with family present
will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, January 8th at Ochiltree
Funeral Service, in Winterset. A prayer
service will be held at 7:00 p.m.,
Wednesday immediately following the
visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial
with viewing one hour prior to the
service will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
Thursday, January 9th at St. Boniface
Catholic Church in Garner, Iowa, with
burial to immediately follow in the St.
Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed
to a fund established in her name and
condolence may be left for the family at

Lucille was born October 9, 1918 to
Albert and Catherine (Skella) Yegge on
their farm in Wesley, Iowa. She was the
youngest of eight children. She met
Marvin Townsend in 1945 and they were
married April 12, 1950 at St. Boniface
Catholic Church in Garner, Iowa; where
they were members for 50 years. This
union was blessed with two daughters,
Victoria and Trish.
Lucille went to country school in Britt,
Iowa and graduated from Garner High
School in 1936. She worked in Garner as
a checker for Walt Edelen’s grocery
store and she also worked for Charlotte
Holta in her fashion store.
In 1964 she went to work for the Tempo
store in Mason City, Iowa and after
that, she worked at Damon’s department
store. In 1970 she worked at
Goodnature’s in Garner for one year and
then at EF Johnson’s in Garner until she
began babysitting.
She baby sat in her home for 15 years
and this was her most rewarding job. The
kids called her Grandma and she gave
each of them a wonderful head start in
life with many crafts she organized for
them, birthday parties she had and all
of the special things she did for each
of them. Many of them have carried these
wonderful childhood memories with them
throughout their lives.
In 1998 they moved from Garner to Truro,
Iowa to be closer to their family. They
then moved to Winterset in 1999. She
loved her family and friends and always
put them first in her life.
She loved to dance, play bingo, enjoyed
going to the casino, making trips to
Georgia to visit Trish and their trip to
Branson, Missouri on their 50th Wedding
Anniversary to see the Lawrence Welk
Show was especially memorable to her.
Lucille is survived by her daughters,
Victoria (Dan) Wagner of Ankeny, Iowa
and Trish (Roger) Hubbard of Peru,
Iowa. She is further survived by six
grandchildren, Scott (Cyndi) Wagner;
Jeni (Justin) Porter; Nicole Wagner
Leach; Michael (Samantha) Gilbert; Katie
(Brad) Witt; Nikki (Monte) Bloms and 17
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Marvin on July 15, 2004, her
parents, her seven siblings, a grandson
and a great grandson.

Irene Kropp, 95 of Garner died Thursday
January 9, 2014 at Concord Care Center
in Garner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30
A.M., Monday, January 13th at Peace
Reformed Church south of Garner with
Rev. Harvey Opp officiating. Burial will
be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to
6:00 P.M. Sunday at Peace Reformed
Church and will continue one hour prior
to services at the church.

Reformed Church in Garner or Hospice of
North Iowa.
Viola Irene (Kropp) Kropp, the daughter
of August and Rosa (Bredlow) Kropp, was
born July 26, 1918 on a farm southwest
of Garner. She was baptized and
confirmed at the United Methodist Church
in rural Klemme. She attended country
school at Liberty Township #2 and also
Garner High School. On May 26, 1941 she
was married to Leon Kropp at the
Methodist Church parsonage. They lived
on various farms in Hancock County and
settled in Hayfield in 1967, living
there a total of 31 years. In 1998 they
moved from the farm into Garner. In
2012, she moved from her home to Prairie
View Apartments and in 2013 entered the
Concord Care Center. She loved attending
all her grandchildren and great
grandchildren's school and church
activities, gardening, playing games,
coffee with her Hayfield friends,
quilting & bowling with her sisters &
getting her exercise.
She was a member of Peace Reformed
Church and Women's Missionary Society.
She took great joy in attending the
North Garner Community Club, Progressive
Club, and Homemakers Club.
Viola is survived by her three children,
Jerry (Barbara) Kropp of Garner, Janet
(Tim) Laugesen of Galesburg, IL and Rex
(Jennifer) Kropp of Klemme; six
grandchildren, Brenda (Grant) Anderson
of Garner, Sean Rasmussen of Galesburg,
IL, Kristin (Brendan) Rooney of
Culpeper, VA and Libby, Ethan and Austin
Kropp of Klemme; seven
great-grandchildren Derek, Mara, Kylie &
Jaelyn Anderson and Lucas, Abigail and
Sean Rooney; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Leon, March 1, 2004; her
parents; grandchildren, Renae Kropp June
1, 1971 and Ryan Kropp Feb. 28, 1986;
sisters, Lucille (Floyd ) Drugg, Hilda
(Kenneth) Bell, Relma (Max) Finn, Neva

Roy Charbonneaux,
87, formerly of Britt, passed away
Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Concord
Care Center in Garner, where he had been
a resident for the past 7 years.
Visitation will
be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014,
from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Ewing
Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West,
in Britt. A graveside service will
follow at 2:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery
in Britt.
Roy, the
youngest son of Floyd G. Sr. and Lucy M.
(Boutilier) Charbonneaux, was born in
Ottawa, Illinois on July 29, 1926.
Roy married
Lillian Gladys Smit on August 12, 1944.
He owned and operated several salvage
yards, was in construction work and
farmed for several years.
Roy was an avid
fisherman, fur trapper, and hunter and
enjoyed metal detecting. He and Lillian
wintered in Alamo,Texas for over 35
years.
Roy is survived
by his daughters, Lanette (Bill) Arnold
of Klemme, Jane Beier (John Farquhar) of
Klemme, Joyce (James) Blankenship of
Katy, Texas and Peg Charbonneaux of
Garner; 14 grandchildren and numerous
great-children, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; wife, Lillian;
sisters, Fern Smith, Eva Schleuger,
Evelyn Smidt; two brothers, infant
Charles and Floyd E. (Pete) Jr. and his
faithful canine companion, Pepper.
BRYAN
HANNA
November 23,
1956 - December 25, 2013
Bryan
Alroy Hanna, the son of Alroy (Blondie)
and Audrey (Jarshaw) Hanna, was born on
Nov. 23, 1956 in Buffalo Center, and
died at his home on Christmas Day, 2013.
He had attended and graduated from
Woden-Crystal Lake High School and NIACC
in Mason City. After graduation from
NIACC, he returned to live in Crystal
Lake and work for Etherington
Construction building pole sheds. When
driving down the road, he would delight
in pointing to a building and say, “I
built that one!”
After marrying
Gina Brockmeyer in 1980, they moved to
Mason City where he worked for Larry
Elwood Construction for many years. Two
children were born to this union, Alex
Bryan in 1985 and Lauren Marie in 1993.
He was also blessed with the birth of a
grandson, Lincoln Alex Hanna in 2012.
In the late
1980s, Bryan started his own business,
Hanna Concrete and Construction with the
focus on concrete. He owned and operated
this business until the time of his
death. Working with concrete is hard
work, but Bryan was very good at what he
did.
On Nov. 11,
2011, he married Stephanie Corneliusen
at their Eastbrook residence.
Bryan was fond
of the Hawkeyes, the Twins, the Vikings
and NASCAR. He enjoyed classic cars,
especially his 1972 Monte Carlo that he
drove proudly. Traveling, being on the
lake, attending Aerosmith concerts, and
making food for the many friends that
were always at the house were when he
would smile the most. Playing slow pitch
softball with the guys, who were his
life-long friends, was a big part of his
summers.
Bryan is
survived by his wife, Stephanie; his
children, Alex (Amy) Hanna of Edgewood,
daughter, Lauren Hanna currently a
student at UNI in Cedar Falls; grandson,
Lincoln; parents, Alroy and Audrey Hanna
of Mason; three sisters, Deb (Mike)
Brock of Mason City, Linda (Duane)
Jensen of Colorado Springs, Co., and his
twin sister, Brenda (Phil) Underbakke of
Blue Earth, Minn.; uncles and aunts,
Jimmie and Barb Jarshaw, Walnut Creek,
Calif., and Terry and Carol Hanna of
Liberty, Mo. He was also ‘Uncle Bryan’
to numerous nieces and nephews. Andy,
and Hachai, his beloved dogs will miss
his presence.
He was preceded
in death by his maternal grandparents,
Justin and Anna Jarshaw; paternal
grandparents, Sylvan and Helene Hanna;
and his former father-in- law, Virgil
Brockmeyer, with whom he enjoyed a close
relationship.

FRANK J HEJNA, JR

Frank
J. Hejna, Jr., 76, of Barnett, MO,
living with his daughter in Hickman, NE,
formerly of Ventura, peacefully joined
our Heavenly Father Tuesday, January 14,
2014 at Homestead Rehabilitation Center
in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M.,
Saturday, January 18th at St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church in Duncan with Fr.
Dennis Miller officiating. Burial will
be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in
Duncan with military rites by the Garner
Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7
P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral
Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a
Rosary at 7 P.M. followed by a
Scriptural wake service. Visitation will
continue one hour prior to services at
the church.
Born in Mason City, IA to Frank and
Agnes (Korn) Hejna on June 6, 1937. He
was baptized on June 20, 1937 and
confirmed in 1948 at the St. Wenceslaus
Catholic Church at Duncan. He graduated
from Ventura High School in 1955. After
high school, Frank served in the United
States Marine Corps from 1955-1961.
While living in Leigh, NE he owned
Frank's Auto and was an active member of
the community, including serving on the
Leigh Fire and Rescue squad. After a
back injury left him unable to work on
vehicles he attended college in Curtis,
NE earning a degree in 1979 in Natural
Resources and Conservation. This gave
him the opportunity to combine his love
of the outdoors and a long career of
surveying and conservation. He worked
for the NRD of York, NE from 1979-1987
and was a volunteer fire fighter. From
there he worked as a Contract Supervisor
for the Missouri Conservation Department
until retirement in 2010.
Frank was a member of the Knights of
Columbus at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Eldon, MO. He enjoyed polka
music, fishing, working on tractors,
restoring classic automobiles, and
socializing.
Frank is survived by his wife, Jean of
Lincoln, NE; children Frank III of Hump
Tulips, WA, Preston, of Hoquiam, WA,
Shelli Ziemke and husband, Mike of
Hickman, NE, Sherri Leyva and husband
Gilbert of Las Vegas, NV, and Sunni
Harper and husband Colby of Hickman, NE.
Grandchildren Tori and Sydni Ziemke,
Evan, Emma, Sammy, and Charley Leyva,
Delaini and Presli Harper. As well as,
three adored brothers, Jerry (JoAnn)
Hejna of Ventura, IA, Ron (Rose) Hejna
of Garner, IA, and Ed (Connie) Hejna of
Floyd, IA; several nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
infant brother, Joseph; and sons,
Vincent and Shawn Hejna.

Mary Stevermer, age 85, of Apple Valley,
Minn., formerly of Easton, died
peacefully surrounded by her family,
Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at Augustana Care
Center, Apple Valley, Minn. Mass of
Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Feb. 1, at Our Lady of Mount
Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, Minn.
Visitation will be at the church on

Rose Mary was
born July 16, 1928, the daughter of
Frank and Ella (Mullin) Kelly in Britt.
She graduated from Britt High School and
attended Iowa State Teacher’s College
for 2 years. Rose Mary taught in Iowa
until her marriage. On Aug. 20, 1959 she
was united in marriage to Alton
Stevermer at St. Patrick Catholic Church
in Britt. Rose Mary taught at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Elementary School for
many years, and she was deeply
religious. She enjoyed reading, baking,
and she loved her sweets. Rose Mary also
enjoyed watching basketball, wrestling,
and baseball—she was an avid Twins fan.
She loved spending time with her
children and grandchildren.
Rose Mary is
survived by five children: Mary Jo
(Rick) Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., Pat
(Sherry) Stevermer of Savage, Minn.,
Greg (Annie) Stevermer of Rochester,
Minn., Donna Stevermer of Farmington,
Minn., Laura Stevermer of Savage, Minn.;
nine grandchildren: Mandy, Chris, Dan,
Katie, Rebecca, Zachary, Clare, Xavier,
and Dominic; siblings Arlene McDermott,
Paul Kelly, Theresa (Ray) Rottinghaus
and sister-in-law Bonnie Kelly.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; husband Alton;
siblings Bob (Van) Kelly, Francis Kelly,
Joe (Noreen) Kelly; bother-in-law Ed
McDermott and sister-in-law Marlys
Kelly.
