Lucille M. Drugg, 1912-2006

Lucille
M. Drugg, 94, of Forest City,
died on Monday, October 2, 2006,
at the Muse Norris Hospice in
Mason City.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, October 6,
at the United Methodist Church
in Forest City, with Pastor
Jerald Swanberg officiating.
Burial was in the Oakland
Cemetery in Forest City. The
Petersen-Lund Funeral Home of
Forest City was in charge of the
arrangements.
Lucille Marie
Drugg was born on March 13,
1912, in Maynard, Minnesota, to
August and Rosa (Bredlow) Kropp.
At age 2, she moved with her
parents to Garner. She graduated
from the Garner High School in
1930.
She began
teaching in a rural Liberty
Township School. On November 17,
1934, she married Floyd Drugg in
Owatonna, Minnesota. She later
continued teaching for several
years in a rural Ellington
Township School. She also worked
in Forest City at the Lamp Shade
Factory and Winnebago
Industries/Stitchcraft.
Lucille was very
active in the United Methodist
Church, Senior Citizen Center
and the Kum Along Klub. She also
enjoyed bowling and playing
cards with her friends.
Lucille is
survived by two daughters,
Marilyn (Dewey) Galloway of
Forest City and Marlys (Bill)
Austin of Columbus Junction.
Also surviving
are five grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; a brother;
two sisters; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Floyd; three
brothers; and two sisters.

Kathryn Goll, 1908-2006

Kathryn
Goll, 98, of Garner, died on
Monday, October 2, 2006, at the
Concord Care Center, Garner.
Private family
services were held at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel, with
Rev. Tim Diehl of the Zion
Evangelical and Reformed Church
officiating. Burial was in the
Peace Reformed Cemetery south of
Garner.
Kathryn Anna
Christina, the daughter of Fred
and Maren (Bach) Petersen, was
born on May 19, 1908 at
Blairstown.
At an early age
she moved with her family to a
farm southeast of Garner. She
attended the rural schools near
her home and graduated from the
Garner High School, where she
received her normal teaching
certificate. Kathryn continued
her education at the Iowa State
Teacher's College in Cedar Falls
and then taught in the rural
schools near Garner.
On October 18,
1927, she was married to Harvey
Addis Goll at the Peace Reformed
Church south of Garner. They
farmed south of Garner until
1960 when they moved into
Garner. Kathryn worked for the
Garner-Hayfield School System
for many years. She enjoyed
baking pies, flowers and music.
She was a member
of the Zion Evangelical and
Reformed Church in Garner, where
she taught Bible School and
belonged to the Women's
Fellowship.
Kathryn is survived by her
children, Calvin "Johnnye" Goll
of Garner, Roberta (Milford)
Hegg of Concord, California,
Marjorie Kallas of Mason City,
Sheryl (Vernon) Hanna of Woden
and Karen Sue (Jim) Loar of
Shreveport, Louisiana; 16
grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren; and four
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Harvey
on March 20, 1979; parents; a
daughter-in-law; a son-in-law; a
great-granddaughter; two
brothers; and three sisters.

Shawn Paul Hejna,
the son of Frank Jr. and
Geraldine (Rose) Hejna, was born
on September 28, 1964 in Britt.
He grew up in Hoquiam,
Washington. Shawn had a great
sense of humor, enjoyed watching
movies, and loved to travel.
He is survived by
his father, Frank Hejna Jr. of
Barnett, Missouri; his mother,
Geraldine Peterson of Tacoma
Washington; step-mother, Jean
Hejna of Lincoln, Nebraska;
brothers, Frank Hejna III of
Hump Tulips, Washington, Preston

Dale Brede, 1936-2006

Delwyn Dale
Brede, age 69, of Butler,
Missouri, died on Sunday,
October 8, 2006, after a battle
with cancer.
Funeral services
were held on Wednesday, October
11, at the Ohio Street United
Methodist Church in Butler,
Missouri, with Rev. James
Stanfield-Myers officiating.
Masonic Funeral Services were
held on Tuesday, October 10, at
the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial
was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at
Butler.
Contributions may
be made to the Masonic Lodge or
a charity of choice. Services
were under the direction of the
Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel,
Butler, Missouri.
Del was born on
December 5, 1936, the youngest
of two children, to Lawrence
Dale and Leona Arlene Halfpop
Brede in Klemme. He grew up in
Klemme where he graduated from
the Klemme High School in 1954.
He attended college at Iowa
State University in Ames.
On February 12, 1956, he was
united in marriage to Virginia
Ann Pettibone in Moravia, and to
this union five children were
born. Del lived many places
including Moravia, Garner,
Sheffield, Iowa Falls,
Schleswig, Glenwood and Council
Bluffs, as well as Swey City and
Fairmount, Minnesota and Morton
and Putnam, Illinois.
Del was a farmer,
salesman, pork and cattle
producer and land developer. He
retired from Iowa Beef Packers
in 1999. Del married Paula
Anderson on March 27, 1999 at
the Kanesville Tabernacle in
Council Bluffs.
In 2002, he moved
from Council Bluffs to Butler.
His memberships included the
National Wild Turkey Federation,
Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants
Forever, NRA, Pork Producer's
Association, 4-H, and Farm
Bureau. Del was a Master Mason.
He began his Masonic association
at the Antiquity Lodge in
Moravia and was in the process
of transferring his membership
to the Butler Lodge #254.
Del was an avid
outdoorsman who loved fishing
and hunting. His passion was
bird hunting-especially turkey,
pheasant and quail. He also
enjoyed trout fishing, wild boar
hunting, gardening and growing
flowers. Del was generous,
courageous, never afraid to try
something new and he always
accomplished anything that he
put his mind to.
Del is survived
by his wife, Paula Brede of
Butler, Missouri; five children,
Gieselle Fest and husband,
Darwin of Liberty, Missouri,
Greg Brede of Springfield,
Missouri, Georgia Ipsen and
husband, David of Nixa,
Missouri, Gordon Brede and wife,
Natalie of Halfway, Missouri and
Ginger Pietz and husband,
Russell of Aberdeen, South
Dakota; one stepdaughter,
Michelle Hirl of Omaha,
Nebraska; one sister, Judy
McClure and husband, Dale of St
Charles; 11 grandchildren,

J. Cropley, 78, of Garner, died
on Saturday, October 14, 2006,
at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, October
17, at the United Methodist
Church in Garner, with the Rev.
David Wagner officiating. Music
was provided by organist, Mary
Kopacek. Special music was
provided by vocalists, Denise
Tompkin, Deanne Wilman and
Maggie Voy. Ushers were Maynard
Schoneman and Burke Haberkamp.

LaVonne Jeannette
Cropley, the daughter of David
and Alice (Stauffacher) Voy, was
born on August 17, 1928, on a
farm near Ackley. She attended
country school near her home and
graduated from the Hansell High
School in 1946. Following
graduation, she worked for a
year at the hemp plant and was a
waitress in Hampton. From 1947
to 1950 she was employed as a
supervisor at the Northwestern
Bell Telephone Office in Mason
City.
On December 16,
1950, she was married to Charles
W. "Pete" Cropley in Ft. Sill,
Oklahoma. After living in Cedar
Falls and Clear Lake they moved
to Garner where they raised
their six children together and
she enjoyed being a homemaker.
After Pete's death, LaVonne
worked at Unisys in Clear Lake
for two years and sold Avon
products for 23 years. As an
Avon representative she always
enjoyed visiting with her
customers.
LaVonne enjoyed
spending time with her children
and grandchildren. She always
looked forward to attending the
activities her grandchildren
participated in at school and
was always teaching them
different things. Her hobbies
included reading, sewing,
gardening and knitting.
She was a member
of the Garner United Methodist
Church, UMW and was active in
the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
when her children were growing
up.
LaVonne is
survived by her six children,

L. Parker, 86, a former resident
of Duncan Heights, died on
Sunday October 15, 2006, at the
Oakwood Care Center in Clear
Lake.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday,
October 18, at the Cataldo
Funeral Chapel in Garner, with
Rev. David Wagner officiating.
Casket bearers will be Mike
Duregger, Keith Brouwer, Harold
Blumer, Stan Isvik, Rick Wille
and Lance Frame. Burial will be
in the Concord Township
Cemetery. Visitation was held on
Tuesday, October 17, at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel and one
hour prior to services at the
chapel.
Mary Louise
Parker, daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Garner F. Parker, was born on
July 8, 1920 at Pocahontas.
From an early
age, Mary lived at Woodward, and
in 1964 moved to Duncan Heights,
near Garner. Mary was a very
intelligent lady and her special
ability to communicate her wants
and needs was amazing to all who
knew her. For many years while
residing at Duncan Heights, Mary
worked at Opportunity Village
and the Garner Work Center.
Mary loved
flowers and watching them grow,
watching TV, listening to the
radio, writing letters and
sending cards celebrating her
birthday, holidays, going on
trips, and sweets. Mary took a
sincere interest in the families
of those who cared for her,
especially their children.
In December of
2000, Mary moved to her new home
at the Oakwood Care Center,
where her interests continued
and all staff grew to love her.
Mary especially enjoyed teasing
Oakwood employees, and she made
regular phone calls to her
wonderful friend, Dorothy
Blumer, who did so many kind
things for Mary.
Mary is survived
by her special friend, Dorothy
Blumer of Garner; and her many
friends at Duncan Heights and
the Oakwood Care Center.
She was preceded
in death by her parents.

83, of Barnesville, Minnesota,
formerly of Garner, died on
Saturday, October 21, 2006, at
the Merit Care Health Center in
Fargo, North Dakota.

Faith Lutheran Church in Miller,
with Pastor Rose Viser

the Madison Township Cemetery

Helen Eenhuis,
the daughter of John and Gertje
(Wiltz) Knapper, was born on
June 26, 1923, in Bancroft. On
March 29, 1941, she married
Alvin "Bud" Eenhuis at the First
Lutheran Church in Britt. They
farmed for many years in rural
Hancock County. Later, they made
their home in Garner. She worked
in the school cafeteria for many
years before retiring.
She enjoyed spoiling her
grandchildren, sewing, visiting
with people and playing cards.
She was an excellent cook and
loved to teach her grandchildren
her recipes. She was a loving
mother and grandmother.
She was a member
of the Faith Lutheran Church in
Miller.
Helen is survived by her sons,
Terry (Dawn) Eenhuis of
Barnesville, Minnesota and Jerry
(Glenda) Eenhuis of Billings,
Montana; eight grandchildren,
Jessica (Tom) Weyant, Jana
(Randy) Bartels, Julie Edney,

Philip Wayne
Olson, the son of Harvey and Asa
"Ruth" (Ward) Olson, was born on
June 21, 1946 at New Richmond,
Wisconsin. He attended school at
Richmond. Philip served his
country in the U.S. Navy during
Vietnam. Following his honorable
discharge he returned home to
Wisconsin.
On December 4,
1976, he married Doreen M.
Schaumberg at the Methodist
Church in St. Louis Park,
Minnesota. They lived in the
Twin Cities for 20 years, Amery,
Wisconsin for seven years, and
in 2003 moved to Garner. Phil
was employed as a handyman for
many years. He enjoyed watching
John Wayne movies, mowing lawn
and hunting.
He was a lifetime
member of the Garner VFW and
American Legion. He also served
in the Garner Veterans
Ceremonial Unit.
Philip is
survived by his wife, Doreen of
Garner; two sons, Christopher
Todd of Garner and Philip Olson,
Jr. of Clear Lake, Wisconsin; a
grandson, Brandon Todd; sisters
and brothers, Phyllis Erickson,
Roger (Nancy) Olson, Kenneth

B.C. (Bernt
Charles) Berge, the son of
Thomas and Mollie (Enockson)
Berge, was born on January 17,
1913, on a farm northwest of
Bode. After graduating from the
Bode High School in 1931, he
attended Luther College in
Decorah and then studied law
under Judge D. F. Coyle in
Humboldt. On June 4, 1936, he
was admitted to the Iowa State
Bar.
On December 31,
1935, he married Mary Leitl at
the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. He assisted his parents
in farming until December 1,
1937. He started his law
practice in Garner on December
1, 1937. The Berges raised four
children, Ann, Barbara, Donald
and Alan. On October 15, 1981,
his wife Mary died after an
extended time with cancer. On
November 6, 1982, he married
Violet Holden at the Zion
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.
B.C. had lived in
Garner since December 1, 1937.
His hobbies included music,
fishing, golfing and traveling.
He sang in the St. Olaf Lutheran
Church Choir at Bode and the St.
Paul Lutheran Church Choir in
Garner for over 50 years. He
played the cornet at the Bode
High School and in the Luther
College Concert Band and the
mellophone in the Old Timers
Band in Garner. On December 1,
1987, B.C. retired from his law
practice after 50 years of
service to the community of
Garner and the surrounding
areas.
He was a member
of the St. Paul Lutheran Church,
where he had served as choir
director, a member of the
building committee, a member of
the committee for acquiring a
pipe organ for the new church,
and as secretary of the church
for a period of years. He was a
member of the Iowa State Bar
Association, the Hancock County
Bar Association, served a term
as President of the 2A District
Bar Association, and was a
member and served as secretary
for a term in the Garner Chamber
of Commerce. B.C. was a charter
member of the Garner Rotary
Club, which he helped organize
and which received its Charter
on January 4, 1940.
He served a term
on the Garner City Council and
thereafter served a period of
seven years as the City
Attorney. In the days when there
was a County Superintendent of
Schools, he served on the
Hancock County Board of
Education. As a part owner he,
with other part owners, platted
Clear View Addition to Garner.
As an attorney, he encouraged
and assisted others in platting
eight other additions to the
town of Garner. He was an
originator with other Garner
citizens for what is now known
as the Concord Care Center,
Prairie View Apartments, the
Garner Golf Course and Central
Park. Members of the community
will long remember the Concolor
pine tree decorated with blue
lights for the Christmas season
at the Berge residence for a
period of 39 years.
He is survived by
his wife, Vi of Garner; his
children, Barbara (Larry) Weians
of Parkville, Missouri, Dr.
Donald (Nicky) Berge of Clear
Lake and Alan (Carol) Berge of
Clear Lake; his son-in-law,
Harry (Anne) Anderson of Garner;
ten grandchildren, Timothy

E. Kramer, 87, of Garner, died

at the Belmond Medical Center.
Funeral services

Wednesday, November 1, at the

Church in Garner, with Rev. Tim
Diehl officiating. Music was
provided by organist, Margaret
Jass who accompanied soloist,
Angi Smith. Ushers were Allan

Arlene Elizabeth
Kramer, the daughter of Emil and
Emma (Grell) Kraus, was born on
December 4, 1918 at Klemme. She
graduated from the Klemme High
School as class valedictorian.
On September 26,
1937, she was married to Art
Kramer at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. They lived in
Garner all of their married
life. After Art passed away in
1968, she continued to live in
Garner.
In 1999, she
moved to the Rise Apartments in
Belmond and in May of 2006 to
the Belmond Health Care Center.
She enjoyed spending time with
her grandchildren, baking
cinnamon rolls and visiting with
people. Arlene will always be
remembered for her positive
attitude in life. She was a
member of the Zion Evangelical
and Reformed Church and the
Women's Fellowship.
Arlene is
survived by her children, Jack
Kramer and wife, Judy of Des
Moines, Sharon Smith and
significant other, Don Bancroft
of Belmond, Judy Smith and
friend, Roger of Algona, Diane

McAloon, age 75, of Garner, died
on Saturday, October 28, 2006,
at the Mercy Medical Center of
North Iowa.
Memorial services were held on

Boniface Catholic Church in
Garner, with Father Michael
Schueller officiating. Inurnment
will be in the St. Boniface
Cemetery, Garner.
Theresa Haus, was
born on July 2, 1931 in North
Washington, Iowa, to Edward and
Thelma (Bach) Haus. She
graduated from the St. Mary's
High School in North Washington.
On August 3,
1953, Theresa was united in
marriage with Harry McAloon in
Des Moines. Theresa was a member
of the Catholic Daughters of
America. She retired from the
Hancock County Abstract Company
in 2004, after over 30 years of
loyal service. She enjoyed her
work and all the people she met
and worked with.
Tres enjoyed
gathering with family and
friends to play cards and bingo.
Music and laughter were never in
shortage with the many gifts her
family displayed at church and
holiday gatherings. Her flower
garden also brought pleasure to
her as the seasons changed. It
had its own special beauty
spring, summer, fall and even
winter. The very essence of
Theresa's life was LOVE! She
lived and breathed for her
children and grandchildren, and
the last few years her
great-grandchildren. She took so
much joy in giving love to her
family and friends.
Left to cherish
her memory are her children,
Mark McAloon of Mason City,
Martin McAloon and his wife, Kay
of Garner and Michelle Lau and
her husband, Dennis of Winner,
South Dakota. Her
grand-children, Bobbi

husband, Greg Allen, September
Lau, Summer Swenson and her
husband, Jeff, Dustin Lau and
his wife, Amanda, Dane Lau,
Derek Lau, David Lau, Devin Lau,
Samantha Lau, Stephanie Lau,
Shawnessey Lau, Shelby Lau, and
Sydney Lau. Her
great-grandchildren, Piper
Breitkreutz, Isaac Swenson,
Cecilia and Emma Lau; one
brother, Dan Haus and his wife,
Marilyn; and one sister, Mary
Randall and her husband, Clair.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Harry
in 2000; her parents; a son,
Michael; and a sister, Annette
Rapp.
