Imogene L. Schubert ,
1918-2006

Imogene
L. Schubert, 87, of Britt, died
on Saturday, August 12, 2006. at
the Hancock County Memorial
Hospital in Britt.
Memorial services
were held on Tuesday, August 15,
at the United Methodist Church
in Britt with the Rev. Robert
Dodge officiating. Interment was
in the Evergreen Cemetery in
Britt. The Cataldo Funeral Home
in Britt was in charge of the
arrangements.
Imogene Lucille Fox, the
daughter of Lyal and Anna
(Sillman) Fox, was born on
November 29, 1918, on a farm
northwest of Britt. She attended
the rural schools of Orthel
Township and graduated from the
Britt High School in 1936. She
continued her education at the
Britt Junior College and later
received her bachelor's degree
from Mankato State University in
1974.
Imogene taught in
the rural schools near Britt
from 1937 to 1940.
On September 18,
1940, she was married to Richard
Stanley Schubert at her parent's
farm home near Britt. They lived
on a farm northeast of Britt
until 1978 when they moved into
town.
Imogene taught
school in the Garner-Hayfield
School District from 1963 to
1980, when she retired. She
enjoyed taking senior citizens
for drives in the country and
baking bear bread and fruit
tarts for special occasions.
She was a member
of the United Methodist Church
in Britt where she was active in
the UMW, taught Sunday School
and was a Sunday School
Secretary for 27 years. She was
Curator of the Armstrong House
for 15 years and Secretary of
the Hancock County Historical
Society Board. She also belonged
to the HCMH Auxiliary serving as
Treasurer, was a 4-H Leader and
was active in the Woman's Club
and King's Daughters.
Imogene is
survived by her six children,
Joyce (Allen) Bolte of Lenexa,
Kansas, Russell (Cindy) Schubert
of Britt, Kathleen (Harold)
Huisinga of Allen, Texas, Julie
Schubert (Dennis Goodrich) of
Ames, Mary (Michael) Anderson of
Jupiter, Florida and Betty
Schubert of Madison, Wisconsin;
10 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; a brother,
John (Susan) Fox of Willard,
Wisconsin; three sisters, Doris
(Earl) Schulz of Britt, Marjorie
(Robert) Snyder of Truro and
Carol Schulz of Corwith; and
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Richard
on April 19, 1995; her parents;
and a younger brother, Earl Fox.

Betty L. Buseman, 1919-2006
August 30, 2006
Betty
Buseman, 87, of Clear Lake,
formerly of Klemme, died on
Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake,
where she was a resident since
January 1994.
Funeral services
were held on Thursday, August
24, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Immanuel Reformed United Church
of Christ in Klemme, with Pastor
Donna Buckman officiating.
Burial was in the Ell Township
Cemetery, Klemme. The Andrews
Funeral Home of Klemme was in
charge of the arrangements.
Betty Lavonne
Buseman, the daughter of John
Carl and Mabel Cora (Welch)
Velau, was born on the family
farm in Liberty Township,
Hancock County, on January 22,
1919. She grew up on the farm
which has been in the family
since 1888. She attended country
school at the Liberty No. 8
school.
Betty was united
in marriage to Francis Buseman
on May 29, 1936, at Waterloo,
Iowa. They farmed in the Klemme
area for many years before
retiring and moving to Garner in
October 1990.
She enjoyed
cooking and baking. She baked
and decorated many wedding and
anniversary cakes through the
years. She was also active as a
4-H Leader for many years. She
and Francis also co-managed the
4-H food stand at the Hancock
County Fair for 16 years. They
traveled extensively throughout
the western United States and
spent many winters in California
and Texas before retiring to
Garner.
She is survived
by two sisters-in-law, Esther
Tulp of Goodell and Della Velau
of Klemme; two nephews, Melford
Velau of Belmond and LaVern D.
Velau of Klemme; five nieces,
Luella Bonner of Clear Lake,
Lucille Gaffney of Swaledale,
Miriam Jaberg of Fridley,
Minnesota, Lynette Nuehring of
Kanawha and Sheri Williams of
Waukee.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; husband,
Francis in September 1992; and
two brothers, Charles John in
July 1981 and LaVern Darrell
Dean in July 1998.

Brian J. Thompson, 1964-2006

Brian J.
Thompson, age 41, of Missouri
Valley, died on Wednesday,
August 30, 2006, in his home.
The Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home
in Missouri Valley was in charge
of the arrangements.
Brian was born on
October 12, 1964 in Missouri
Valley, to Gerald and Alice
(Gardner) Thompson. He received
his GED and graduated with a two
year degree in auto body from
Iowa Lakes Community College in
Garner. Brian was baptized in
the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Brian will be
missed by his family, friends,
and the hospital staff at the
Community Memorial Hospital, who
spent many hours with him.
Survivors include
his parents, Gerald and Shirley
Thompson of Forest City; aunts,
Sharon Thompson, Beverly Davis
and husband, Charles of Missouri
Valley and Mary Jane Peterson of
Modale; and several cousins.
He was preceded
in death by his mother, Alice;
brother, Duane; sister, Paula;
grandparents, Rose and Albert
Thompson and Alvin and Dora
Gardner.

Mary Myrl Pronk, 1918-2006

Mary Myrl Pronk, 88, of Garner,
died on Thursday, August 31,
2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City,
from congestive heart failure.
Private family
services were held at the
Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner.
Burial was in the Memorial Park
Cemetery in Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to the
Hospice of North Iowa.
Mary Myrl Pronk,
the daughter of Walter F. and
Maud (Haymaker) Pardun, was born
on May 24, 1918, on a farm in
Buchanan County, Iowa. She was
baptized and confirmed in the
Christian Church. She graduated
from the Brandon High School in
1935 and obtained her teaching
certificate from Iowa State
Teachers College in Cedar Falls.
Myrl taught country school for
five years in Benton County,
grades K-8. On September 2, 1940
she was married to Nick Pronk in
Dubuque.
Myrl greatly enjoyed playing
bridge and belonged to a number
of bridge clubs over the years.
She also enjoyed her retirement
years, traveling south each
winter with Nick and spending
time with the many friends they
made over the years. Myrl also
loved spending time with her
grandchildren.
She is survived
by two sons, Tom Pronk and his
wife, Barb of Garner and John
Pronk of Dallas, Texas; six
grandchildren, Dr. Jay (Amy)
Pronk, Katie (Ryan) Brockway,
Matthew Pronk, Nicole (Jim)
Knight, Joanna Pronk and
Charlotte Pronk; a
great-granddaughter, Christian
Hatesohl; a sister, Venice
(Myron) Fish; and a brother,
Glen (Pat) Pardun.
She was preceded
in death by her husband, Nick on
August 14, 2001; her parents; a
brother, Lynn; sisters, Icil,
Millie and Nelda; and a twin
sister, Myrna, at birth.
