Janice A. "Jan" Arndorfer, 63, of Hampton, died on Sunday, November 5, 2006, at the Franklin General Hospital Hospice in Hampton.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, November 8, from 3-8:00 p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton.

Hampton Man Dies in Crash on Highway 65 Monday


November 6, 2002

According to the Iowa State Patrol web site, a crash in Franklin County on Monday morning, November 6, 2002, claimed the life of 23-year-old Joel James Allen of Hampton.

The crash occurred north of 50th Street on Highway 65, about 8 miles south of Hampton.

According to the patrol, Allen was northbound on Highway 65 when his 1998 Chevrolet pickup struck broadside a John Deere 940 tractor pulling a honey wagon driven by Jeremy Dale Eisentrager of Hansell. The report said the tractor was entering Highway 65 southbounds from a field drive on the east side of the highway.

The crash occurred at 4:43 a.m. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were a wet roadway and fog. The report said Allen, who was taken from the scene by Franklin General Ambulance and transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, was not wearing a seat belt. There was no report of any other injuries.

The patrol said the crash remains under investigation.

Highway 65 was blocked for several hours and traffic was detoured on county roads.

Shirley Vosburg

November 12, 2002

Shirley Vosburg, 84, of Hampton, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

At her request, there will be no services. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of North Iowa Inpatient Unit and/or the Hampton Public Library. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton was in charge of the arrangements.

Deloris Elaine Meyer

Deloris Elaine Meyer, 68, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, November 10, 2006.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 14, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.

Death Reported in Crash on Highway 65 Friday Afternoon


November 11, 2002

The Iowa State Patrol said that 68-year-old Deloris Elaine Meyer was killed in a traffic crash on U.S. Highway 65, about 8 miles south of Hampton Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 1:15 p.m., November 10, 2006, during the first winter storm of the fall. The area was under a winter weather advisory at the time.

According to a report, the victim was driving a 2001 Honda Odyssey southbound on Highway 65, lost control, and crossed the center line, into the path of a northbound 2001 Mack truck, owned by Christensen Farms Midwest, and driven by Michael Duane Thompson, 42, of Ackley. Both vehicles entered the east ditch, striking a utility pole, and coming to rest. Meyer was pronounced dead at the scene. Thompson was injured and taken to the Ellsworth Community Hospital in Iowa Falls by AMR Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation by the patrol. Other assisting agencies were the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, Franklin General Ambulance, Bradford Fire Department, and the Hardin County Emergency Squad.

It was the second fatality this week on Highway 65 south of Hampton. The other, on Monday, occurred during dense fog.

Marion A. Peterson

November 14, 2002

Marion A. Peterson, 91, of Hampton, died on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 15, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5-7:30 p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
