Elaine Wadeade

Elaine Wade, 71, of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 31, at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with the Rev. Frederick Wood of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Marilyn Elaine Wade was born July 13, 1927, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Ernest and Doris (McGowan) Garlock. She married Marvin K. Wade on Nov. 22, 1946, in Clear Lake.

Elaine grew up in Clear Lake and attended Clear Lake Schools. She worked at Clear Lake Bakery for a few years until her marriage.

She loved caring for her family. She enjoyed camping, taking trips to Texas, raising flowers, and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin, Mason City; a grandson, Mark; two sisters, Geneva Ultrich and her husband, Merlyn, Mason City, and Nancy Jenkins and her husband, Dick, Eldridge; two brothers, Neil Garlock and his wife, Karen, Burnsville, Minn., and Larry Garlock and his wife, Wlvina, Berwick; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ernest; one sister, Barbar Blau; and one brother, Robert Garlock.

 


 

Mrs. LaVern West

Mrs. LaVern West, 83, of Northwood, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 7 at Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, with the Rev. Robert Cummings officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. The family suggests memorials to the Bolan Trinity Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

LaVern was born Dec. 4, 1914 in Lohrville, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Blanche (McCrady) Sherrard. She graduated from Kensett High School in 1932. She continued her education at Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she obtained her teacher’s certificate. She taught school in Kensett, Iowa, and Worth County Township.

LaVern married Claude E. West (a classmate of hers), March 11, 1939 in LuVerne, Iowa. She was a member of Bolan Trinity United Methodist Church and the women’s group. She was very active in church functions, playing the piano and teaching Sunday School.

LaVern is survived by her husband Claude West, Northwood; two sons, Larry West, and his wife, Joan, Forest City, Iowa, and Terry West and his wife, Jean, Clear Lake; one daughter, Marlys West, Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Sherrard and his wife, Dorothy, St. Ansgar, Iowa, Arlie Sherrard and his wife, Avis, Bolivar, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Genevieve West, Northwood; as well as nieces, nephew, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one infant sibling.


Mildred Parker

Mildred Parker, 89, of Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

A memorial Mass will be held today (Wednesday), Nov. 11, at 12 noon, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th Street SE, Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating.

Mildred’s family will greet friends on Wednesday from 10:45 a.m. until their departure for the church at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in memory of Mildred Parker.

Mildred Parker was born Dec. 7, 1908 in Darfer, Minn., the daughter of Andrew and Cecilia (Hettler) Renner.

She married Lee D. Parker on Nov. 6, 1928 in Darfer, Minn.

Mildred was an avid bridge player and an expert at fishing. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and dancing.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, and participated in ladies circles.

She is survived by three children, Kathleen "Pat" Ziesmer and her husband, LeRoy, Clear Lake, David Parker and his wife, Bonnie, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Marcia Boyd and her husband, Bruce, Wascilla, Alaska; 10 grandchildren, Jody O’Donnell and her husband, Mike, Pocatello, Ind., Jane Hollingshead, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Jana Niemeyer and her husband, Mike, Blue Springs, Mo., David Ziesemer and his wife, Becky, Peosta, Andrew Ziesmer and his wife, Jean, Burnsville, Minn., Kathryn Schmidt and her husband, Steve, Rochester, N.Y., Dr. Janis Galm and her husband, James, Cleveland, Ohio, Thomas Parker and Phyllis Westerfield, Memphis, Tenn., Curtis Parker and his wife, Jackie, Tampa, Fla., and Robert Parker and his wife, Beth, Columbus, Ohio; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Al Renner, West Concord, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mary Parker, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister.


Rose T. LaKose

Mrs. Rose T. LaKose, 90, formerly of Montezuma, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn, Iowa, after a long illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with the Rev. Richard Okumu officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Kibbee, Grinnell, Iowa; three sons, Robert, Clear Lake, John, Brooklyn, Michael, Grabill, Ind.; four sisters, Emma Frommelt, Montgomery, Ala., Clara Cornelis, Brooklyn, Philomena Fraker, Knoxville, Josephine Henry, Barnes City; one brother, Frank Van Ersvelde, Brooklyn; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.


Ronald D. Springer

Ronald D. Springer, 50, of Garner, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998 at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the Garner Memorial Building with the Rev. Bret Kroh and Ruth Klevgard officiating.

Interment was in Concord Township Cemetery with military rites by the Clear Lake Beterans Cermonial Unit.

Ronald Duane Springer, son of Duane and Rose (DeVries) Springer, was born Feb. 19, 1948 in Hampton. He grew up in Thornton and graduated from Thornton High School in 1966. He also attended NIACC in Mason City. He served his country in the U.S. Army from January of 1969 to 1971 being stationed in Germany and Vietnam. Following his discharge, he returned to Thornton and worked for Dick Floy as a tiler. In 1973, he began working for Northern Natural Gas and also worked part-time for the Waterloo Service Company. On June 10, 1977, he was married to Sharon Weaver Reichardt at the United Methodist Church in Garner. They made their home in Garner. Ron also worked for his brother, Dennis, helping him farm. He enjoyed his family, friends, fishing and golfing.

He was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W. and the Grip and Rip Golf Association in Clear Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, Garner; his mother, Rose Springer, Thornton; children, Lori Wreghitt and her husband, Bill, of Ventura, Melanie Huckins and her husband, Bill, Grandville, Ohio, Brent Reichardt and his wife, Claudie, of Erlangen, Germany and Jeffrey Reichardt of Garner; four grandchildren, Steven and Kelli Wreghin, Justin Huckins and Sara Reichardt; a brother, Dennis Springer and his wife, Sharon, of Clear Lake; two sisters, Jan Korenkamp and her husband, Dave, of Thornton, and Deb Lerdal and her husband, Terry, of Thornton; maternal grandmother, Lena DeVries, Thornton; paternal grandmother, Esther Springer, Sheffield; three nieces, LaShea Springer and April and Tara Dorenkamp; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in esath by his father; a step-son, Todd Reichardt; maternal grandfather, Jerry DeVries; and paternal grandfather, Ralph Springer.

Music was provided by organist, Susan Eicher who accompanied vocalists, Steve Lanus, Steve Prottsman and Betty Rike.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Brower, Leo Lallier, William Sparks, Wayne Spilman, Merlyn Thada, Glenn Barz, Dick Kaster, John Gilliam, Cecil Noble, Byron Wood, Dale Kjeltsen and Richard Bell.

Pallbearers were Mike Echelberger, Ken Kisner, Darrell Avery, Scott Kramer, Doug Gruben, Dallas Shear, Mike Quinn and Dave Whitecotton.


(Julia) Marcella "Mac" Jackson 

(Julia) Marcella "Mac" Jackson, 82, of Clear Lake, residing at the Rockwell Nursing Home, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

A funeral mass was held Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

(Julia) Marcella "Mac" Jackson, was born on April 1, 1916, in Doughtery, the daughter of Daniel and Rose (McMenimen) McLaughlin. She attended and received her education in the Doughtery School System, graduating from Doughtery High School. She also attended and graduated in 1937, from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Mason City. After completing her schooling she worked as a nurse at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in MaSon City for a period of time. She was united in marriageto Walter "Walt" E. Jackson on July 26, 1938, at the Holy Family Rectory in Mason City. After her marriage and throughout her life she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She enjoyed sewing, needlework, baking, card playing, fishing with her husband and friends, and summering for 12 years along the Mississippi River with her husband.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, and was a past member of the St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital Alumni Nursing Association.

She is survived by her husband, Walter (Walt) E. Jackson of Clear Lake, and is now residing at the Rockwell Nursing Home; three children, Jim Jackson and his wife, Mari M. of Rockwell, Tom Jackson and his wife, Ann, Deer River, Minn., and Sue Jacobson and her husband, Larry, Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Jolene M. O'Brien and her husband, John, Rockwell, Sandra K. Jackson of Rockwell, James D. Jackson and his wife, Sonji of Klemme, Jon Jackson and his wife, Lisa, Polk city, Joel Jacobson and his wife, Andrea, Des Moines, and Julia Glanzer and her husband, Darin of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Trevor, Shelby and Alec Jackson, and Emma and Elliot Jacobson; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Debbi Jackson; three brothers; and three sisters.

 

Ernest (Ernie) D. Hayungs

Ernist (Ernie) D. Hayungs, 61, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jana Swenson officiating. Internment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Memorials may be made to the Ernist D. Hayungs Memorial Fund. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Ernist was born Aug. 8, 1937, in rural Marble Rock, Iowa, the son of Nikolaus (Claus) and Thelma (Ackley) Hayungs. He married Ione Smit on Aug. 12, 1956, at Merservey, Iowa. He graduated from Meservey High School in 1955, and lived in Meservey until they moved to Clear Lake in 1957. He worked for Davis and Keith Construction, Clear Lake, 1955 to 1963, Young Consruction, Garner, Iowa, 1963-1965, Great Plains Lumber Yard, Mason City, 1965 to 1972, Great Plains Kensett Home Division, Kensett, Iowa, as Plant Superintendent, 1972 to 1985, at which time he was forced to retire due to ill health. Ernist had a lung transplant on May 20, 1992. He enjoyed golf, fishing, picture framing, woodworking, family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ione Hayungs, Clear Lake; three children, Lynn Hayungs and his wife, Martha, McAllen, Texas, Brian Hayungs, and his wife, Gayle, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Brenda Minton and her husband, Brad, New Braunfels, Texas; two brothers, Larry Hayungs and his wife, Emilie, Carterville, Ill., and Roger Hayungs and his wife, Mary, Rolfe, Iowa; one sister, Donna Sonquist, Harlingen, Texas; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Curtis, Kyle, Dustin Hayungs, McAllen, Texas, Jake and Justin Hayungs, Highland Ranch, Colo., Jessica, Nikolaus, Abby Minton, New Braunfels, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Hayungs; and one nephew, Nick Perkins. 


James (Jim) Hammond

James (Jim) Hammond, 85, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998 at Oakwood Care Facility, Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date.

Jim was born July 11, 1913, at Clear Lake, the son of Stephen and Anna (Anderson) Hammond. Jim attended and graduated from Clear Lake schools. After high school he moved to California where he worked in an Air Craft facility prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Pogy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Jim married Dorothy Virginia McNevin in Las Vegas, Nev. in 1943, she preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1991. Following honorable discharge he and Dorothy moved back to Clear Lake and farmed on the family farm. He farmed until 1963, moving into Clear Lake. Jim worked as an independent Auto Parts Distributor in Clear Lake until his retirement in 1996. His hobbies were visiting with family and friends, Civil War history, collecting antiques, and he enjoyed children.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Lois Hammond, Clear Lake; six nieces and nephews, Verna Jean McClearly, Clear Lake, Linda Hancock and her husband, Phillip, Minneapolis, Minn., Debbie Rodemaker and her husband, David, Mason City, Jaci Hammond, Clear Lake, Rita Miller and her husband, Wayne, Missouri Valley, Iowa, Steve Hammond and his wife, Diane, Ankeny, Iowa; seven great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Verna Thompson; three brothers, Guy Warner, Rodney Hammond, and Arlen Hammond, who died in infancy. 


Maxine Rose Sears

Maxine Rose Sears, 67, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998 at her home.

A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 20, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis and Hospice Chaplin John Ayers officiating. Inurnment was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be made to Maxine Sears Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Maxine was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Fern (Fogue) Monson. She married Rancher (Warren) Sears on Sept. 29, 1979 at the Ranch, Clear Lake.

Maxine was a member of the Methodist Church in Clear Lake, where she was a member of the Methodist Women Group and Church Circle. She was also a member of the Clear Lake Evening Lions, Clear Lake Lioness, Muddy Pond CB Club and the River City Tri Club, Mason City, where her handle was "Mean MaMa", Moose Lodge and Double F Club. Her many accomplishments were receiving the Melvins Jones Fellowship Award (Lions International highest award), Lioness of the Year Club Award, Past State Lioness Chairperson, Past President of Lioness Club, District Cabinet of Lions District 9x2.

Maxine was a crafter, loved antique dishes and collecting old china and being a Foster Grandma. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, animals, collecting dollas and Indian crafts.

She is survived by her husband, Ranch (Warren) Sears; four sons, Michael Boulton, Waco, Texas, Mark Boulton, Kalamazoo, Mich., Matthe Boulton, Ft. Levenworth, Kan., Max Boulton Jr., and his wife, Hyeon Ju, Souel, Koriea; two daughters, Marsha Thayer, Clear Lake, and Merry "Orfun" Boulton-Trosper and her husband, William, Clear Lake; one step-grandaughter, Judy Hunt and her husband, Carl, Osakis, Minn.; three sisters, Arlene Bryson and her husband, Bill, Alden, Minn., Carole Engstler and her husband, Lawrence, Garner, Iowa, Bonnie Berndt, Glenville, Minn.; two brothers, Marvin MOnson and his wife, Jackie, Forest City, Iowa, and Eva, Lake Mills, Iowa; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents; and one son, Martin Boulton; and one step-daughter, Jane Lynn Sears.
