Robert
J. Hoffman
Robert J. Hoffman, 82, of Buckeye, Iowa, died
Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at the Iowa Methodist
Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, March 28, at United
Methodist Church, Alden, Iowa, with the Rev.
Pacifico Camarin and Dr. Dennis Y. Ginoza
officiating. Burial was in the Alden Cemetery,
Alden.
Robert
was born March 25, 1916 in Anaconda, Mont., the son
of Frank and Clara (Smith) Hoffman. He attended
rural Eldora School. On March 24, 1940 he married
Helen A. Lyon at the Little Brown Church in Nashua,
Iowa. Robert was a farmer until 1980, when he
retired. The couple lived on a farm by Buckeye for
58 years.
Robert
was on the Buckeye and Alden School Boards and
Hardin Co. ASCS. He was a faithful member of the
Democratic Party, National Association of Farmer
Elected Committeemen (NAFEC); Iowa Falls Elks Club
B.P.O.E. Lodge #1674; President of Hilltop Village
Board and held various offices within the United
Methodist Church. Bob will be remembered for his
love of fishing, as wonderful and fun grandpa, and
as friend to all in the community.
He was a
member of the United Methodist Church, Alden.
He is
survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Sylvia
Ginoza and her husband, Dennis, Fallbrook, Calif.,
Joyce Schager and her husband, Robert, Alden, and
Bonnye Ryan and her husband, James, of Clear Lake;
seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a
brother, Leonard E. Hoffman and his wife, Doris, of
Iowa Falls, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; and infant
daughter; a brother, Frank W. Hoffman; and a
grandson, Tad R. Ryan.
Leo C.
Jorgensen
Leo C.
Jorgensen, 86, formerly of Clear Lake died Thursday,
March 26, 1998 at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City,
Iowa.
Graveside services were held Monday, March 30, at
the Clear Lake Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Lewis
officiating. A Masonic service was held at the
grave. The family suggests memorials to your
favorite charity in memory of Leo C. Jorgensen.
Leo was
born Oct. 14, 1911 in Franklin County, Iowa, the son
of Danish immigrants Nels Peter and Carrie (Larsen)
Jorgensen. He graduated from Hampton High School.
Following graduation he pursued a career in the
field of banking. He went from bookkeeper to
chairman of the board at Citizens State Bank in Iowa
Falls, Iowa, and Alden State Bank, Alden, Iowa.
On June
28, 1933 he was united in marriage with Gert
Schwieger in Hampton, Iowa. The couple lived in Iowa
Falls before moving to Clear Lake following Leo’s
retirement in 1974. After 55 years of marriage, Gert
died on March 11, 1988. Leo then moved to Ft.
Meyers, Fla. He returned to Mason City, Iowa in
1994.
He was a
member of various civic organizations, including the
Masonic Lodge where he was a 55 year member, and the
El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member
of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.
He is
survived by one brother, a daughter, and two
grandsons, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother;
and brothers and sisters-in-law.

W. Thada
Warren
W. Thada, 76, of Garner, Iowa, died Tuesday, March
31, 1998, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral
services were held Friday, April 3 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with the Rev. Carl
Hedberg officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Warren
Willard Thada the son of Frank F. and Minnie (Pueggel)
Thada was born March 31, 1922 at Garner. He attended
St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from
Garner High School in 1939. He then farmed northeast
of Garner. On Aug. 20, 1952 he was married to
Veronica M. Liska at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Warren continued to farm until retiring in 1988. He
also drove motor homes for Winnebago Industries for
six years.
He was
baptized in 1922 and confirmed in 1935 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, where he was a member, serving as
an officer of the Lutheran Layman’s League and as
congregational chairman, trustee, deacon and usher.
He was on the board of the Farmer’s Cooperative
Society in Garner, Pork Producers and Beef
Producers.
He is
survived by his wife, Veronica Thada, Garner; his
children, Glenn A. Thada and wife, Jody, of Garner,
and Marsha A. Doebel and husband, Michael, of Clear
Lake; a grandson, Derek Doebel; three
step-grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel and Jeremy
Schulze; a step-great-granddaughter, Morgan Lynn
raham and a sister, Lillian Thada of Fairfield,
Iowa.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edna
Thada and a sister in infancy.
Music
was provided by organist, Mrs. Louise Boehnke who
accompanied soloist, Mrs. Marilyn Hayes and
congregational hymns. Ushers were Tom Boehnke,
Phillip L. Boehnke and Gene Toppin.
Honorary
pallbearers were Darwin Hoeft, Rev. Warren and Carol
Uecker, Agnes Liska, Verner “Pete” Priebe and
Lucille McMillin.
Pallbearers were Mark Hanson, Cletus Liska, Neal
Woiwod, Jeremy Schulze, Derek Doebel and Harlan
Hayes.

(Sawdust Sam) Arnold
Sam
(Sawdust Sam) Arnold, 86, of Clear Lake, Iowa, died
Wednesday, April 1, 1998 at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 6, at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess
officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery, Clear Lake. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials to the Sam Arnold
memorial fund.
Sam was
born Jan. 14, 1912 in Thornton, Iowa, the son of
Frank and Alberta (Richards) Arnold. He attended
school in Mason City.
He
worked as a butcher in a meat market in Mason City.
He married Dorthy Howe on March 15, 1931. Sam
operated the Hamburger Hut in Clear Lake, next to
the Clear Lake VFW. He was the first custodian at
the Sunset Elementary School in Clear Lake, where he
worked until his retirement. After retiring, he
worked at the Outing Club as custodian.
Sam was
a talented wood worker, loved jokes, music, dancing,
and was a great entertainer of children and adults.
Sam and his wife enjoyed camping and had a great
group that they met and camped with. Sam had a great
wood working shop in his back yard and was
everyone’s “Mr. Fix It” and “Sam would you make me
this.” He worked hard and long all his life up to
the last few years. He loved and worshipped his two
sons and his grandson, Sammy.
He was a
member of the Faithful 187 IOOF Lodge, Clear Lake,
and has held all the positions of office.
He is
survived by his two sons, Jerry Arnold and his wife,
Betty, Clear Lake, and Bob Arnold and his wife,
Bonnie, Albert Lea, Minn.; one sister, Irene Mors,
Ft. Dodge, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 31
great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorthy
in 1976; one son, Edward Arnold; two sister, Emma
Mae and Jeanett; and four brothers, Frank, Arthur,
John and Orlean Arnold.
Organist
Karen Harthan accompanied soloist Larry Shaffer.
Pallbearers were Shelby Pierce, Gary Cunningham, Bob
Law, Bob Tyer, Danny Aastrup and Warren Sears.
Kenneth
R. Coe
Kenneth
R. Coe, 81, of Ventura, Iowa, died Saturday, April
4, 1998, at Oakewood Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa.
Funeral
services were held today (Wednesday), April 8, at 10
a.m. at Ventura United Methodist Church, with the
Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Burial will be in the
Ventura Cemetery.
The
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th Street,
Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangments.
Kenneth
R. Coe was born Oct. 31, 1916, in Mason City, Iowa,
the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe. He
married Nan Rhodes on Oct. 8, 1942, in Hardford,
Conn.
Kenny
grew up in Ventura and graduated from Ventura High
School in 1936. He served in the Army during World
War II. Kenny worked for Northern Natural Gas for 28
years until retiring.
Kenny
loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting and bird
watching. He enjoyed playing cards and gardening. He
was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church, the
American Legion, and a charter member of the Ventura
Gun Club.
He is
survived by three children, Kenneth R. Coe Jr., and
his wife, Sharon, Ventura, Leila Coe, Ventura, and
Les Coe and his wife, Jan, Alton, Iowa; a special
aunt, Ruth Coe, Grand Rapids, Minn.; four
grandchildren, Kendra Coe and her special friend,
John, Rochester, Minn., Kamara Dyre and her husband,
Jay, Ventura, and Randi and Kati Coe, both of Alton;
two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Debbie Dyre,
both of Ventura; three brothers, Cecil Coe and his
wife, Irene, North Branch, Minn., Frosty Coe and his
wife, Ginny, Ventura; Larry Coe and his wife, Jane,
Ventura; one sister, Cleo Overgaard, Ventura; and
many nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one
brother, Ted Coe; one sister, Joy Currier; and two
brothers-in-law, Harold Currier and Bill Overgaard.

(Frenchie) Roth
Mrs. Leona L. (Frenchie) Roth, 77, of Clear Lake,
Iowa, died Saturday, April 11, 1998 at the North
Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City,
Iowa.
Funeral
services will be held today (Wednesday), April 15,
at 10:30 a.m. at the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis
officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery, Mason City. The family suggests memorials
to the Leona L. Roth Memorial fund.
Leona
was born July 27,1920 in Milford, Iowa, the daughter
of Louis and Florence (Sheldon) Marchand. She
graduated from Milford High School in 1938. After
high school she moved to Mason City, where she
worked for Northwestern Bell as an operator.
Leona
married Ernest Roth on Jan. 1, 1941 in Mason City.
They moved to Ruthven, Iowa where they owned and
operated a dry cleaning business.
They
moved back to Clear Lake in 1958.
She
worked for a realtor in Clear Lake, then in the
office of Whittwere wholesale grocery and the Clear
Lake Bakery office for 20 years.
Leona
enjoyed dancing, playing cards, Tripoli and entering
radio contests. She was a member of the Clear Lake
United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.
She is
survived by two children, James Roth and his wife,
Judy, Vancouver, Wash., and Susan Dietz and her
husband, Guy, Clear lake; six grandchildren, Bob
Eggers, Mason City, Jody Roth, Montril, Calif.,
Robin Miller, Los Angeles, Calif., Holly Allen,
Trout Dale, Ore., Anthony Govero, Vancouver, Wash.,
and Corey Roth, Vancouver; five great-grandchildren,
Megan Goodwin, Cody Farmer, Baily Farmer, Taylor
Govero and Tristin Farmer; two sisters, Marjorie
Petersen and her husband, Arthur, Mason City, and
Donna Nelson, Fort Dodge, Iowa; one brother, Dick
Marchand and his wife, Ruth, Clear Lake; several
nieces and nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one
infant brother, Richard Marchand.
