Alice Jenette Olson

Alice Jenette Olson, 97, of Northwood, died on Monday,
February 2, 2009, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in
Northwood.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, February 6, at the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood, with Reverend Daniel R. Hart officiating.
Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.
Visitation was held from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the
Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood. Visitation was also held
one hour prior to the service time on Friday at the church.
The family of Alice Jenette Olson has requested, should
friends desire, contributions may be made to the First
Lutheran Church in Northwood, in her memory.
Alice Jenette Olson, was
born on April 29, 1911 in Mitchell County, the daughter of
Walter and Isabel (Kvale) Pike. She attended schools in
Otranto, graduating from the Otranto High School in 1929.
She was united in marriage to Alvin Olson on November 21,
1931, at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.
After their marriage together they farmed in the Barton and
Grove Township areas. Alice was a wonderful farm wife and
cook. Alice also was a cook for the Northwood-Kensett
Schools, drove school bus, worked as a cook for the
Paramount Café in Northwood and drove Winnebago Motor Homes
with her husband.
Alice enjoyed quilting,
sewing, crocheting and being a seamstress. Alice was a
member of the First Lutheran Church, Abigail Circle and
taught Sunday School, was a 4-H Leader and a member of the
Worth County Historical Society.
Those left to cherish her
memory are her children, Janette (Art) Bickford of Garden
Grove, California, Janice Olson of Northwood and Marcia
(Jim) Price of Northwood; 11 grandchildren, Connie (Brian)
Kenison, Pam (Doug) Meyer, Lori (Tim) Wallach, Paul (Kendis)
Bickford, Phil (Kirsten) Bickford, Michael Bickford, Shelley
(Dan) Robson, Lisa (Matt) Irving, Anjanette (Bill) Goetz,
Alison (Rich) Gores and Amyjane (Jason) Mong; 23
great-grandchildren, Kris Kenison, Lindsey (Mike) Severson,
Jordan Kenison, Melissa, Nicole, and Courtney Meyer, Matt,
Brett, and Chad Wallach, Will, Jayne, Wyatt, Riley, Owen,
and Grady Bickford, Alex, Jeff, and Jana Robson, Elaina,
Mia, and Ava Irving and Amanda and Andrew Mong; a sister,
Thelma Delaney of Austin, Minnesota; as well as many nieces,
nephews and many other extended family members and friends.
Alice was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Alvin who died on March 11,
1993; four brothers, Archie, Harold, Guy and Roy Pike; four
sisters, Dorothy Naber, Truly Nelson, Elmo, and Lucy Pike;
and a son-in-law, Guy Olson.
Alice will be remembered
as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
sister and friend.

William Scott
"Bill" Swanson
February 11, 2009
William Scott "Bill" Swanson, 69, of Northwood, died on
Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at his winter home in Mesa,
Arizona.
Funeral services were held
at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, February 9, at the First Lutheran
Church, Northwood, with Pastor Daniel Hart officiating.
Burial was in the Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 8, from 4-7:00 p.m.,
at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City.
Bill, the son of Art and
Blanche Swanson, was born on October 3, 1939, in Mason City.
He graduated from the Mason City High School in 1958 and
from North Iowa Area Community College. Bill married his
high school sweetheart, Sharon Raye Calkins on August 28,
1960, at the First Christian Church in Mason City. Bill
retired from Alliant Energy after working as a lineman 37
years.
He was a member of the
First Lutheran Church in Northwood and the Elks Lodge in
Albert Lea. Bill was also a volunteer fireman for many years
in Northwood. Bill enjoyed spending time with friends in
Iowa and Arizona. He also participated in ballroom dancing,
attended variety shows and enjoyed wood working. His other
hobbies included snowmobiling, camping, fishing, traveling
and coin collecting.
Bill is survived by his
wife, Sharon; two daughters, Jody Harrington and husband,
Troy of Saint Charles, Illinois and Trudy Capitani and
husband, Dave of Northwood; four grandchildren, Weston and
Vaughn Harrington of Saint Charles, Illinois and Spencer and
Chandler Capitani of Northwood; two brothers, Larry Swanson
and wife, Norma of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Tom Swanson and
wife, Ann of Nora Springs, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Linda
Edwards of Bloomington, Minnesota; as well as several nieces
and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death
by his parents.

Gladys Marie
Andersen
February 25, 2009
Gladys Marie Andersen, 85, of Mason City, died on Saturday,
February 14, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in
Mason City.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, February 19, at the Bride
Colonial Chapel, Manly, with Reverend Linda Johnson
Prestholt officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Rest
Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation was held one hour prior to
the service time on Thursday at the chapel.
Gladys Marie Andersen, was
born on May 4, 1923 in Silver Lake, Iowa, the daughter of
George and Minnie (Sundsvold) Sanvik. Gladys was baptized
and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation
at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. She
attended school in Northwood and worked for the Federal
Bakery in Northwood. She was united in marriage to Charles
"Charlie" Andersen in Northwood and to this union a
daughter, Judy was born. During her life the family lived in
Fargo, North Dakota, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bettendorf
before moving back to Northwood, and later Rockford. Gladys
and her daughter, Judy worked at the Lutheran Retirement
Home in Northwood.
Gladys enjoyed crocheting,
loved her cats, was proud to be a Norwegian, playing the
piano, loved Big Macs at McDonald's and blueberry pie at
Perkins. Gladys was a strong Lutheran by faith, but also
enjoyed attending the Methodist Church in Rockford.
Those left to cherish her
memory are her two sisters, Senora Brunsvold of Lake Mills
and Eleanor Stromley, a resident of the Manly Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center; as well as many nieces, nephews and
other extended family members and friends.
Gladys was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Charles; daughter, Judy; and
four sisters, Gilma Carey, Margaret McQuatters, Lorraine
Sanvik who died in infancy, and Arlene Alitz.

Lyle C. Peterson
February 25, 2009
Lyle C. Peterson, age 74, of Council Bluffs, passed away on
Monday, February 16, 2009, at his home.
Visitation with the family
was on Thursday, from 6-8:00 p.m., at the
Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral services
were held on Friday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs.
He was born on December
28, 1934, in Montgomery County near Elliott, Iowa, to the
late L. Clair Peterson & Marcella (Carlson) Peterson. Lyle
graduated from the Stanton High School in 1952 and in 1958
graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Animal Husbandry. Lyle was a soil
conservationist with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Soil
Conservation Service for more than 40 years before his
retirement in 1998.
Lyle loved the game of
baseball and was an avid sports fan, following his children,
grandchildren, nieces, nephews and any other family friend.
Playing cribbage with his grandsons and having his coffee
with his friends always put a smile on his face. When he
wasn't reading or working a crossword puzzle, you could find
him in front of a television watching Iowa State or the next
best sporting event he could find. He also enjoyed getting
in the car and traveling with his wife, Jermane. His passion
was agriculture and all things Iowa.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Lyle is survived by his
wife, Jermane “Jerri” (Bakken) Peterson; son, Brian Field of
Smyrna, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda & Tim
Mechaelsen of Kamrar, Iowa and Kimberley & Mike Hinkel of
Logan, Iowa; four grandchildren, Nathan & Derek Mechaelsen
and Tyler & Kurtis Hinkel; great-granddaughter, Avery Hinkel;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Don & Kay Peterson and Brian &
Kathy Peterson; and a host of other family and friends.

Cody Jerome Cox

Cody Jerome Cox, 14, of Northwood, died on Sunday, February
22, 2009, at his home, after suffering from Duchene’s
Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
Funeral services will be
held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 26, at the First
Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Reverend Robert W. Luebbert
officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in
Northwood. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the
service time on Thursday at the church.
Cody Jerome Cox, was born
on January 2, 1995 in Mason City, the son of Rocky Cox and
Gail Kuhlmann. Cody was in the seventh grade at the
Northwood-Kensett Community School. Cody enjoyed animals,
especially his dogs and cats, bugs, being outside, liked to
learn as much as he could about everything, having his many
friends spend the weekend playing with his Nintendo and
Pokemon games, riding around Northwood on his wheelchair,
spending time with his nephews and cousins, especially
spending time with his cousin, Garrett Carlson, and visiting
with Les Kaufman.
Those left to cherish his
memory are his mother, Gail Kuhlmann of Northwood; his
father, Rocky Cox and significant other, Mary Zweck of
Manly; his brother, Gerad (Jessica) Kuhlmann and their
children, Dylon, Collin, and Jocelyn, all of Northwood; two
nieces, Alexis and Samantha Tietjens of Hampton; his
grandfather, Gaylord LaVon Kuhlmann of Manly; his aunts and
uncle, Linda (Bob) Link of Northwood, Kathy (Kurt) Rush of
Mason City and Steve Carlson of Northwood; cousins, Amber
Carlson and significant other, Tim Ouverson and Amber’s
daughter, Trinity of Manly, Laura Carlson of Wyoming,
Garrett Carlson of Northwood, Aaron and Jordan Rush of Mason
City; honorary father, Steve Ingersoll of Plymouth; and
Cody’s other mother, Barb Beck of Northwood; as well as many
other friends.
Cody was preceded in death
by his brothers, Joshua Ryan Kuhlmann and Aaron Tietjens;
his grandmother, Joyce Kuhlmann; his grandparents, Spencer
and Marjorie Cox; and two uncles, Gary Kuhlmann and Lamont
Cox.

Dellis Arthur Walk

Dellis Arthur Walk, of rural Grafton,
died on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, February 26, at 11:00 a.m., at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Grafton, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson
officiating. Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery, Grafton.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 25, from 5-7:00
p.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.
Dellis Arthur Walk, was
born on December 20, 1924, to Edwin and Jennie (Rademaker)
Walk on the family farm northwest of Grafton, Iowa. He
stayed on that place until January 12, 2004. He was
baptized, confirmed, and married at the Emmanuel Lutheran
Church at Grafton. He and his brother, Earl ushered for many
years. He crop farmed and raised cattle.
In later years Dellis was
a collector of antiques, going to many auction sales. Dellis
has been a director for the Worth County Historical Society,
a trustee on the Grafton Fire Department and a director on
the Lutheran Retirement Home Board. On October 11, 2001, he
had a severe accident and subsequently from that, suffered a
severe stroke. From the happiness he shared with a life time
friend in August of 2001, he knew that he could count on
this friend to be a comforter and companion. From this
caring friendship Dellis Walk and Norma Jensen married on
December 8, 2002, at Emmanuel Lutheran.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; grandparents; a sister, Lucille Miller and
brothers, Earl, Cecil and Eugene Walk.
Dellis is survived by his
wife, Norma; three step-children; a brother, Everett and his
wife, Beverly; and many other relatives and friends.

Ashley M. Hanson
March 4. 2009
Ashley M. Hanson, 23, of Rochester, died on Wednesday,
February 25, 2009, at her home, of adrenal cortical cancer.
She had been ill for eight months.
Funeral services were held
at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, March 2, at the Bethel Lutheran
Church, with the Rev. Anjanette Rist officiating. Burial was
in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends called from 4-7:00 p.m., on
Sunday, at the Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the
services on Monday, at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Memorials
may go to the family to be used for adrenal cortical cancer
research.
Born on November 4, 1985
in Rochester, she attended the Bamber Valley Elementary
School, Willow Creek Middle School and graduated from the
Mayo High School in 2004. She went on to attend the
Rochester Community & Technical College and was currently
completing her degree in elementary education at Augsburg
College in Minneapolis. In 2007, she moved to Maplewood,
Minnesota and worked at Kindercare in Shoreview up until her
health deteriorated. Her previous employment included
Extended Stay America south in Rochester, and Old Navy in
both Rochester and Minneapolis. She was not married but the
love of her life was Adam B. Trefethren of Maplewood.
In high school Ashley was
active in cheerleading and competition cheerleading with the
Minnesota Ice Elite. At the Bethel Lutheran Church she
participated in drama, choir and Mexico Mission trips. She
had a deep faith and enjoyed life and animals, especially
her two cats, snake and her new puppy. Her love of children
grew with every passing day she taught at Kindercare.
Survivors include her
parents, Jody and Ron Hanson of Rochester; a sister, Angela
A. Hanson of Rochester; a grandfather, Richard Wallaker
(Irene Jones) of Seabring, Florida; a grandmother, Evelyn
Patterson (Harvey Patterson) of Northwood, Iowa; and a
great-grandmother, Elaine LeMieux of Faribault, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death
by her grandfather, Richard Hanson; grandmother, Kathleen
Wallalker; and great-grandmother, Dora Wallaker to whom she
was very close.
