Harvey Ray Anderson, 90, of Carpenter,
died on Monday, July 4, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.
Memorial
services were held on Friday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m., at the Deer Creek Lutheran
Church,
Carpenter, with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in the Deer
Creek Cemetery, Carpenter.
Harvey was
born on August 1, 1914, on a farm near Meltonville, Iowa, the son of William and
Hattie (Carlsgaard) Anderson. Harvey attended school in Otranto, Iowa. He was
united in marriage to Veronica A. Wagner on September 19, 1941 in Northwood.
Harvey lived most of his life in Carpenter. He was a truck driver all of his
life, from hauling milk to his final job as hauling for L. R. Falk.
He enjoyed
steam engines, going to the shows with steam engines, fishing and reading.
Harvey got his greatest enjoyment looking at his wife's flower garden.
Harvey was
preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Anderson; sisters, Lurene
Anderson, Hazel Smith and Garnas Askerooth; brothers, Gaylord Anderson and Donald
Anderson; brother-in-laws, Melvin Anderson, Lyle Askerooth and Harold Smith;
niece, Phyllis (Nicholson) Mashaney and nephew, David Smith.
Left to
cherish his memory are his wife, Veronica of Carpenter; sons, Gary Anderson of
Westby, Wisconsin and Keith Anderson of Winona, Minnesota; daughters, Ann Christensen and
husband, Dennis of Riceville, Marilyn Anderson and Patricia Anderson of
Carpenter; five grandchildren, Kathy LaRue and husband, Dean of Boone, Kevin
Christensen and wife, Trade of Riceville, Lisa Turben and husband, Eric of
Viroqua, Wisconsin, Brian Anderson of Winona, Minnesota and Sara Anderson of Honolulu, Hawaii;
seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ina (Anderson) Gould; and several nieces and
nephews.

Harry
Dean Reeder Jr, 72, of Northwood, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa, Mason City, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 9, at the First Lutheran Church,
with Reverend Wayne Hagen officiating. Visitation was on Friday, July 8,
at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, and one hour prior to the service time on
Saturday at the church. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville.
Harry Dean Reeder Jr., was born on March 5, 1933 in
Northwood, the son of Harry Stanley and Ella (Nelson) Reeder. He attended and
received his education in the Northwood Community Schools. After completing his
schooling he worked at a foundry in Albert Lea, before moving to California
where he worked for a moving company. Harry moved to Glenville, where he began
hauling livestock, before moving to the Bolan area, where he started farming
until moving to Northwood in 1962, when Harry and Arlys purchased the Northwood
Hotel, and later started to haul livestock with his brother, Robert Reeder. He
also raised livestock near Northwood and continued to farm until his death. He
was united in marriage to Arlys Brackey on June 22, 1957, at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Harry enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, golfing,
and being out at his farm, but his great love and enjoyment was being around his
wife, family and grandchildren, and visiting with his neighbors and friends. He
was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood and the Northwood Country
Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Arlys Reeder of Northwood; his
children, Kevin Reeder and his wife, Karen of Barnum, Iowa and Kirn Geffert (Randy
Hegland) of Austin, Minnesota and his children, Kyle Hegland of Austin and Katie
and Nick Hegland of Hampton, Iowa; four grandchildren, Casey and Jordan Reeder of
Barnum and Laura and Kelli Geffert of Austin, Minnesota; a brother, Larry Reeder
and his wife, Joyce of Elysian, Minnesota; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mortenson,
Louise Haugebak and Lovone Reeder all of Northwood; as well as other relatives
and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott Reeder;
grandson, Nathan Geffert; brothers, Robert, Don and Chuck Reeder; and a sister,
Marion Reeder.

Elmer William Rosenberg, 94, of St. Ansgar, died on Thursday, July 7, 2005, at the
Lutheran Retirement home in Northwood, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 11, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Grafton, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating, Burial was in the Grafton
Cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St.
Ansgar.
Elmer William Rosenberg, was born on November 14, 1910, at home in Newburg
Township, the son of Robert and Lena (Dieterich) Rosenberg. He was baptized and
confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Creek. He received his education
at the Newburg No. 5 Country School. After his schooling, he farmed with his father.
On May 29, 1939, he married Pearl Kuntz. They farmed on four different farms in
Worth County until buying their present farm in 1960. He lived there until
December 2004 when he moved to the Lutheran Retirement Home where his wife was
already a resident.
Elmer loved the farm. His life was filled with his faith,
family and farming. He also worked with the ASCS office for some years. He served on
the church council of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a long time member
and faithful attendee until shortly before he moved to the retirement home.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Pearl Rosenberg of the
Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood; his three children, Patricia of Waterloo,
Marlin and his wife, Connie of St. Ansgar and James and his wife, Rita of
Kensett; six grandchildren, Rachel Rosenberg of Mesa, Arizona, Joshua Rosenberg and
Zachary Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Lisa (Rosenberg) Buechele and her husband, Andy
of Grafton, Stephanie (Rosenberg) Beland and her husband, Jeff of Northwood and
Travis Rosenberg and his wife, Lindsay of St. Ansgar; four great-grandchildren, Hayley, Dylan and Briar Buechele and Jadyn Beland;
a sister, Alene Halverson and
her husband, Eiton of Lyle, Minnesota; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Alvin, Reuben, Lawrence
and Roy; one sister, Irene; and an infant son.

Clara
Elizabeth Millard, 71, of rural Northwood, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by her loving
husband and family.
A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, July 15, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating
and Deacon Robert Mega assisting with the mass. Burial was in the Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation was last Friday morning, at the Conner
Colonial Chapel, Northwood.
Clara
Elizabeth Millard, was born on September 12, 1933 in Mason City, the daughter of
Clarence and Kathryn Gertrude (Creekmur) Wagner. She graduated from the Ottumwa
Heights Academy, after completing years of school at St. Joseph Catholic School
in Mason City. Clara went to work at the Eddie Jones Insurance Co., then
Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City. She was united in marriage to
Chester Millard on February 21, 1953 in Sanford, Florida at the All Souls Catholic
Church. They moved to Mason City, then to Northwood to farm. Clara also worked
at the Kline Drug Store in Northwood.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Manly. Clara was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother,
and great-grandmother. Clara enjoyed gardening, handwork, sewing, music, playing
the piano for several years, antiques, crossword puzzles, her flower garden and
reading.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband,
Chester Millard Jr, of rural Northwood; her children, Mark Millard and his wife,
Carolyn of Ames, Pamela Best and her husband, Kirk of Webster City, Timothy
Millard (deceased), Debra Sampson of Ankeny, Jeffrey Millard and his wife, Kathy
of Garner, Daniel Millard and his wife, Dawn of Fertile and Thomas Millard of El
Dorado Hills, California; 23 grandchildren, Aaron and Jessie Millard, Jason and Chad
Best, Nigel, Douglas, Trent, and Trisha Millard, Jonathan Geerlings, Kari,
Kristen, Jamie, Joelle, Stacy, and Jessie Sampson, Kelsey, Lisa, Joey and Mikah
Millard, Tara Birri, Ivy, Jacob and Lauren Millard; three great-grandchildren,
Jared and Brianna Best, Robay Birri; as well as other relatives and many
friends.
Her parents and a son, Timothy Millard
preceded Clara in death.

Wilbur
Ross Buchanan, 94, of Northwood, died on Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home, Northwood.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 23,
at the United Methodist Church of Albert Lea, with Rev. John Bromeland
officiating. Burial was in the State Line Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 22, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home,
Northwood.
Wilbur was born to Ross and Mabel (Gullickson)
Buchanan on August 3, 1910, at the Buchanan farm near Gordonsville, Minnesota. Wilbur
attended a two room grade school in Gordonsville. After eighth grade graduation,
he attended high school in Northwood, graduating in 1928. He was married to
Nadine Dahl of Northwood on August 28, 1938. They made their home on the
Buchanan farm for 62 years. He fed beef cattle all his life, until retiring at
the age of 80. He was very proud to be a farmer.
He served on the school board
of Dist. 50 of Gordonsville and was instrumental in the establishment of
Glenville High School and served on the first school board for Dist. 241. He was
active in the United Methodist Church in Gordonsville and helped build the new
Gordonsville UM Church in 1955. He became a member of the Albert Lea UMC after the
closing of the Gordonsville Church.
Wilbur and Nadine enjoyed square dancing and
did a lot of traveling throughout the United States and Europe. He was very
interested in automobiles, tractors, and trains, and talked about riding the
train to Chicago and St. Paul to take the cattle to market. He enjoyed spending
time with his family and telling his many memories of earlier times.
Wilbur is
survived by two daughters, Sharyl Lunde of Northwood and Susan and husband,
Gerald Lee of Albert Lea; one son, Brent and wife, Nicola of Gordonsville; 12
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Buchanan of
Gordonsville; and one sister, Arcley Johnson of Northwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
wife, Nadine in 2003; sister, Arlene Olson; and son-in-law, Einer Lunde.

Norris
Edward Midlang, 89, of Mason City, formerly of rural Kensett, passed away on
Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the IOOF Home, in Mason City.
Funeral
services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 27, at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church, Kensett, with Reverend Thomas Martin
officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 26, at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly. The family of Norris Edward Midlang has requested
that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of North Iowa, in his memory.
Norris Edward Midlang, was born on February
20, 1916 in rural Kensett, the son of Leonard and Edna (Evenson) Midlang. He
received his education at the Brookfield Township Country School, and graduated
Valedictorian from the Kensett High School. After graduation he began farming,
which he did until his retirement. Norris married Luella Hass on June 29, 1939.
They were united in marriage until her death in 1987. In 1988, Norris was united
in marriage to RoseAnn Humburg at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason
City.
Norris enjoyed wintering in the southern states and traveling. He was a
remarkable craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, creating many furniture pieces and
items for his family and friends. He was confirmed and a member at the Elk Creek
Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and couples club. Norris
also served on the Kensett Telephone Board, Manly Co-op and Elevator Board,
United States Department of Agricultural Commodity Credit Corporation, and the
Farmer's Home Administration Board. Norris was especially proud of his plentiful
harvests, which one year, won him runner-up in the Worth County Corn Growing
Competition.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, RoseAnn
of Mason City; three children, Ronald (Sharon) Lance of Cedar Falls, Donna
(Luther) Rhodes of Destin, Florida and Darlene Midlang of North Branch, New York; one
step-son, Steve (Connie) Humburg of Norfolk, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Scott Rhodes,
James (Rayling) Rhodes, Janice (Jim) Glaspie and Carina Kaike; and four
great-grandchildren, Colby Rhodes, Spencer Rhodes, Danielle Glaspie and
Samantha Glaspie. Norris will also be greatly missed by his brother, Leslie
Midling; a sister, Marian Helling; and many nieces and nephews, as well as other
relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents;
wife, Luella; and three siblings.

Dr. Robert
Koschmeder, age 77, of Grafton, died on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at the Mercy Medical
Center-North Iowa, in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday,
July 28, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery. Visitation is
from 7-9:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, in Osage, and
will continue one hour before the services at the church on Thursday.
Robert was born on December 12, 1927 at Mitchell, the son of Henry and Louise
(Darius) Koschmeder. He graduated from the Riceville High School in 1946 and then
served two years in the U.S. Navy. Robert married Carol Fieldman on June 13,
1954 at Perry, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1956 as a
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. They lived in Grafton, Iowa, where he practiced
veterinary medicine for over 49 years.
He, is
survived by his wife, Carol Koschmeder of Grafton; daughter, Linda Dagostino
and husband, Rick McBride of Grafton; two sons, Curtis Koschmeder and his wife,
Teresa of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Kevin Koschmeder and his wife, Sarah of St. Croix
Falls, Wisconsin; one sister, Marian Weldin of Williams, Iowa; six grandchildren; and many
nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Arlene
Juliette Imlau, 85, of Northwood, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 30,
at the Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with
Reverend Kevin L. Mackey officiating. Burial will be in the Sion Lutheran Church
Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation was held on Friday, at the Conner
Colonial Chapel, Northwood, and one hour prior to the service time on Saturday at
the church. The family of Arlene Juliette Imlau has requested that memorial
contributions be made to the Worth County Historical Society, Lutheran
Retirement Home, Sion Lutheran Church, or to the Hospice of North Iowa, in her
memory.
Arlene Juliette (Harmon) Imlau, was born in
Brookfield Township in Worth County, Iowa, on January 15, 1920, the daughter of
Julius and Angie (Holstad) Harmon. She grew up on a farm near Tenold, Iowa. She
was confirmed at the Sion Lutheran Church. In 1939, she graduated from the Kensett High
School and in 1944, she graduated with a Home Economics Degree from Iowa State
University. Arlene taught Home Economics in Indianola, Iowa. She was united in
marriage to William F. (Bill) Imlau on June 1, 1947, and moved to her family
farm in 1951.
Arlene was a 4-H Leader of the Brookfield Bonnie Belles, a member
of the Worth County Farm Bureau Women, ISU Alumni Board, Lutheran Retirement Home
Auxiliary, Worth County Historical Society, and a life long member of the Sion
Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and
officer in circle and church women's group. Arlene was awarded from the City of
Northwood a Community Betterment Award. Homemaking sewing and refinishing
furniture were Arlene's forte. She was a food service worker at the Lutheran
Retirement Home after her children left home. Bill and Arlene celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in 1997, and moved to Northwood that same year.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband,
Bill Imlau of Northwood; daughters, Mary Ellen Imlau of Des Moines, Carolyn
Rippke and her husband, Paul of Moville, Barbara Boggs and her husband, Bob of San
Diego, California, Elaine Imlau of Des Moines and a son, Bill A. Imlau of Northwood;
her grandchildren, Eric Hall of Des Moines, Phil Rippke of Cedar Falls, Anne and
Mark Rippke of Moville and Rob and Rick Boggs of San Diego, California; her sister,
Lorraine Ludwig and her husband, Henry and family also survive her, as well as
many cousins.
Her parents; and a brother, Roger Harmon;
preceded Arlene in death.

M. Johnson, 92, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 30, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Rev. Kevin Mackey
officiating. Visitation was held on Friday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again
one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial was in the Salem
Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills.
Barbara M. Johnson, was born
on July 11, 1913,
on the family farm near Kensett, Iowa. She was the daughter of Erick and Bertha (Tuftedahl)
Johnson. She graduated from the Northwood High School and attended what is now the
University of Northern Iowa. She moved to San Diego, California during WW II and worked
in the defense industry, riding a trolley car through Balboa Park every day to
work which she thoroughly enjoyed. She returned to Northern Iowa after the war
to care for an elderly aunt. She married Paul Johnson of Lake Mills on February
2, 1947, and moved to Lake Mills.
She enjoyed being with family and friends and
played in the same bridge group for forty years. In her later years, she took up golf and enjoyed traveling to warm weather destinations. She was a member
and former Sunday School Teacher at the Salem Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her son, Norman and his
wife, Barbara Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee; grandson, Josh and his wife, Alison and
great-grandson, Elias of Brooklyn, New York; granddaughter, Sarah and her husband, Dr.
Peter Mertz and great-granddaughters, Hannah and Ella, of Longmont, Colorado; and her
brother, Omer and his wife, Delores Johnson of Northwood; along with
many nieces and nephews,
Barbara was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Paul on July 25, 1976; her brother, Edward; and sister,
Genevieve.

Beverly J. Nelson, 72, of
Northwood, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at the St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester,
Minnesota.
Services were held on Saturday,
at 10:30 a.m., at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church,
rural Glenville, Minnesota, with Rev. Jeff Wallager officiating. Interment was in
the
London Deer Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Beverly was born on February 6, 1933 in Albert
Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Selmer and Rose (Bergo) Forde. She graduated from
the
Northwood High School in 1950. Beverly married Kenneth Nelson on June 20, 1954, at
the Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood. They farmed in the rural Glenville
area.
She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, sewing, making quilts, but most of
all spending time with her family and friends. Beverly was a member of the Deer
Creek Valley Lutheran Church, Glenville.
Beverly is survived by her two sons, Greg
Nelson and his wife, Kathy and their children, Erik Nelson of Glenville and his
special friend, Emily Meyer of Northwood and Brianna Nelson and Mike Nelson and
his wife, Cheryl of Glenville and their children, Rachel Nelson of Glenville,
Chandra Holmen and her husband, Brett of Becker, Minnesota, Penny Volk and her husband,
Josh of Emmons, Minnesota and Cathie Jo Chapek and her husband, Bill of Myrtle; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Forde and his wife, Cynthia
of Hempstead, Texas
and Ronald Forde and his wife, Liz of Cape Canaveral, Florida; two sisters, Doris Asbjornson
of Northwood and Shirley Peterson of Kimbalton, Iowa; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband, Kenneth on June 10, 2000; brother, Jerry Forde; father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Reuben and Agnes Nelson; three brothers-in-law, Phil Black, Art
Peterson and Aldon Asbjornson; and a sister-in-law, JoAnne Nelson.

Leonard “Lenny"
H. Johnson, 81, of Albert Lea, died at the St. John's Lutheran Home on Sunday, July 31,
2005.
Funeral services were
held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, August 3, at the Ascension
Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, with the Reverend Clark Cary officiating.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 2 at the Bonnerup Funeral service. Interment
was held in the Graceland Cemetery.
Leonard was born
on December 21 1923 in Northwood, the son of John and Anna (Turvold) Johnson. He
graduated from the Northwood High School. Following graduation he began farming on
the family farm west of Northwood. On July 20, 1946, he married Betty Schreiber
in Albert Lea. In addition to farming he had also began working at Wilson & Co.
He later moved to Albert Lea and continued working at Farmstead, retiring after
22 years.
He was a member of
the Ascension Lutheran Church. Leonard enjoyed playing
golf, and helped with organization of the Senior League at the Green Lea Golf
Course. He was a member of the Wednesday morning Kiwanis, and a volunteer at the Albert Lea
Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years,
Betty of Albert Lea; two daughters, Dianne and her husband, Larry Jacobson of Albert
Lea and Jodi and her husband, Rick Mershon of Fort Worth, Texas; son-in-law, Barry Bendickson
of Forest City; grandchildren, Chad Jacobson of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Cara and
her husband, Rob Liddle of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Brooke Jacobson of Albert Lea, Tori and
her husband, Ryan Eastvold of Clear Lake, Jack Mershon of Fort Worth, Texas; two
great-granddaughters, Megan and Brynn Liddle of Prior Lake, Minnesota; two brothers,
Alton Johnson of Clear Lake and Kenneth Johnson and his wife, Olga of Albert Lea; sister,
Nina and her husband, Paul Emmons of Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Helen and her husband,
Emil Lykken, Ruth Schreiber and Joyce Schreiber, all of Albert Lea; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
grandson, Richard Mershon; daughter, Patty Bendickson; and brother, Orville
Johnson.
