Gladys
A. Schachterle, 81, of Northwood, died on Monday, August 1,
2005, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.
A funeral service was held
on Friday, August 5, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with
Reverend Wayne Hagen officiating. Interment was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. Visitation was held at the Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood. Family
suggests memorials to be sent to the American Cancer Society.
Gladys Alvina Schachterle, was born on June 15,
1924 in Jackson, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Carrie (Speckman) Koeder.
She received her education from the Ackley High School. Upon completing her
education, Gladys helped her family with their bakery in Ackley. She was united
in marriage to Robert Schachterle on October 15, 1944, in the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. After Robert was honorably discharged from the US Navy, Gladys
and Robert began working for the Koeder Resorts in Blackduck, Minnesota, in the spring
and summer, and in the winter they worked at the Ackley Bakery, until moving to
Northwood in 1949. In 1949, they purchased and operated the Northwood Bakery,
which they operated for 33 years until their retirement in 1982.
Gladys enjoyed
playing cards, she was involved with several card clubs, including her “Friday
Gang" for cards every Friday and every other Tuesday she played bridge with a
group of ladies. Gladys had a passion for gardening, cooking, and flowers. She
also participated in the Northwood Bowling League, which she bowled for the
Northwood Bakery. Gladys looked forward to wintering in Texas, which she has
done since her retirement, and spending time with her family and friends. Gladys
was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Lydia
Circle for many years, and the Northwood Women's Auxiliary VFW.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons,
Michael Schachterle and his wife, Crystal of Chanhassen, Minnesota and Dennis Schachterle
of Lake Mills; a granddaughter, Tanya Reader and her husband, Dr.
Nathan of Bloomington, Minnesota; two great-grandsons, Michael and Erick Reader; two
brother-in-laws, Fredrick Schachterle and his wife, Phyllis of Ackley and William Schachterle and his wife, Donna
of Geneva; and a sister-in-law, Emily Schachterle of
Oscoda, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband, Robert in 1994; son, Kevin in 2004; a brother, Elmer Koeder; and sister,
Esther Fistler.

Esther
Louise Mary Gentz, 90, of Northwood, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at the Mercy
Medical Center North-Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 15, at the Deer
Creek Lutheran Church, rural Carpenter, with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating.
Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation was on Sunday, at
the Conner
Colonial Chapel, Northwood.
Esther
Louise Mary Kloose, was born on May 16, 1915 in Grafton, the daughter of Otto and Emelia (Hanson) Kloose. Esther was baptized at
the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton.
She attended school in the Grafton and Barton #5 country school. She moved with
her family to a farm east of Lyle, Minnesota. Esther confirmed her faith at the
Six
Mile Grove Church. Esther was united in marriage to William Gentz on April 15,
1934, in Northwood and to this union 11 children were born. Together they joined
the
Deer Creek Lutheran Church. With her husband she drove tractor and milked cows.
Esther was a loving wife for 71 years.
She loved making quilts for her children
and grandchildren, flowers and houseplants, sewing, gardening and her greatest love
was spending time with her family. She was a member of the Deer Creek Lutheran
Church, Esther Circle, Alter Guild and Ladies Aid.
Esther is survived by her husband, William Gentz; children, Delores (LaVern) Baldwin, Charles Gentz, Richard (Sharon) Gentz,
Marilyn (Chuck) Holland, Gloria (David) Davidson, Rosalie (Steve) Greiman,
Eugene (Marilyn) Gentz, June (Keith) Low, Robert (Cyndi) Gentz, Julie (Tom)
Bock; 23 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
sisters, Clara and Hazel Kloose; brother, Martin Kloose; very special friends,
Nancy Klingfuss and Karen Emanuel; along with several nieces, nephews, and
friends.
Esther was preceded in death by her
parents; son, Wilbert Gentz; three brothers; and one sister.

Tracy L.
Carpenter, 40, of Manly, died on Friday, August 19, 2005, at the Mercy
Medical Center North-Iowa, Mason City.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, at
Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, in Mason City, with Pastor Wendy Johannesen
of the
Plymouth United Methodist Church, officiating. Inurnment was held at the Memorial
Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation was held on Monday, at the Hogan Bremer Moore
Colonial Chapel.
Tracy Lee Carpenter, was born on June 5,
1965 in Mason City. He is the son of Ronald and Sharon (Hagen) Carpenter. He
was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. Tracy
attended the Mason City Public Schools. He worked at White Transfer, Forest
City; Fieldstone Cabinetry, Northwood; Ruan Trucking, Mason City and most
recently was a truck driver for Dedicated Logistics in St. Paul, Minnesota. Tracy was
united in marriage to Patty Peshak on September 26, 1992, at the Plymouth United
Methodist Church.
He enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes and watching
NASCAR racing. Tracy was a member of the River City Radio Control organization.
He will be greatly missed by his wife,
Patty Carpenter; one son, Eric Peshak of Manly; parents, Ron and Jo Carpenter of
Clear Lake; one brother, Randy (Candy) Carpenter of Amarillo, Texas; aunt, Arlene
(Bob) Kramer of Clear Lake; uncles, Roger (Janet) Carpenter of Lakewood, Colorado and
Richard (Bonnie) Carpenter of Rockwell; niece, Lauren Carpenter; nephews, Chad
Carpenter, Jeffrey and Michael Steiff, Scott, Robert and Jim Peshak; and his
mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dot and Lester Peshak of Plymouth.
He was
preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Carpenter, Clyde and Emma Watson,
Chris and Lillian Hagen; and his mother,
Sharon Carpenter.

George A. Heiken, 74, of Northwood, died on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at
the Mercy Medical Center North-Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services are Wednesday,
August 31, at 10:00 a.m., at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood, with the
Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery,
Northwood. Visitation was held on Tuesday evening, from 6-8:00 p.m., at the
Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.
George was born in Eureka, Illinois on May 20, 1930, to George B. and
Ella (Wenger) Heiken. He married Reta Kingdon on July 21, 1951. They lived on a
farm near Danvers, Illinois, before moving to Sumner, Iowa, in 1961 and then to
Northwood in 1962. George was a crop and dairy farmer when they moved to
Northwood, and owned the Hilltop House Collectible Toys for 25 years.
He was a
member of the Northwood United Methodist Church. George enjoyed making things
for his grandchildren.
George is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (James) Anderson of
Fayetteville, Tennessee; one son, David (Louise) Heiken of Kensett, Iowa; one
brother, Ron (Judy) Heiken of El Paso, Illinois; one sister-in-law, Delores Heiken
of Rockford, Illinois; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Heiken, Daniel, Jeffery and
Angela Heiken and Melissa, J. C. and Thomas Anderson; and special friend, Rose
Mary Ellingson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Reta; one brother, Robert;
and a brother and sister in infancy.
