Sharon L. Baldwin funeral

September 7, 2002

Sharon L. Baldwin, age 65, of rural St. Ansgar, died Sunday September 1, 2002, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Hospice Unit, in Osage. Sharon was born January 4, 1937, near Johnsburg, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta (Pittman) Krebsbach. Sharon was united in marriage to Sidney R. Baldwin on June 19, 1958, at Austin, MN.

Funeral services were held Wednesday September 4, 2002, at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church, in St. Ansgar, with the Fr. Mark Reasoner officiating. Private interment service was at the Grand view Cemetery in Austin, MN.

SURVIVED BY: husband: Sidney R. Baldwin of rural St. Ansgar mother: Loretta Krebsbach of Stacyville, IA. 2 sons: Bret Baldwin of St. Paul, MN, Kipp Baldwin and his wife Leticia of Bloomington, MN and their daughter Sandra.

PRECEDED BY: father, Joseph Krebsbach; 1 brother, Wayne Krebsbach; 2 children, Traeg and Kay Cid.

Jerome J. Halbach Funeral September 5

September 7, 2002

Funeral services for Jerome J. Halbach, 81, of Stacyville, who died on September 2, 2002 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, were held on Thursday, September 5 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Father Mark Reasoner and Father Marvin Salz officiating.

Jerome I. Halbach was born on August 24, 1921 to Ernest P. and Veronica (Hemann) Halbach in Stacyville. He entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1942 to 1945. Jerome married Monica Salz on August 10, 1954 at Visitation Church, Stacyville. He was employed at Theobald Implement as a tractor mechanic for 37 years. He then delivered flowers for Eds Floral for 15 years. He was a member of the Stacyville Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for many years and on the Stacyville Town Council for 10 years. He enjoyed wood crafting as a hobby and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Hale Penny Fuller Post 569 of the American Legion, Stacyville.

Jerome is survived by his wife, Monica of Stacyville; three sons, Ed Halbach and wife Theresa, Stacyville; Joseph Halbach and wife Deb of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and Mark Halbach and wife Teresa of Glenville, Minnesota; three daughters, Jeanne Traaseth and husband Peter of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Angie Kruger of St. Ansgar; and Paula Halbach of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Danielle and Jacklyn Halbach and Stacey Kruger and Leah Traaseth; one brother, William Halbach and wife Shirley of Grundy Center; sister, Edith Halbach, brother-in-law Francis Brumm of Stacyville and sister-in-law, Maxine Halbach of Austin, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Kenny, two sisters, Alverna and Kathryn Brumm and one brother, Leo Halbach.

Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Mildred Kuntz Service September 11

September 14, 2002

Memorial services for Mildred Bernice Kuntz, 76, of Northwood, Iowa, formerly of St. Ansgar, who died Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center in Manly, were held September 11, 2002 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa.

Mildred was born on March 22, 1926, in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Lars and Sarah (Van Horn) Larson. She married Wilmer Kuntz on December 17, 1944 in Northwood. They farmed around Northwood, Austin, Minnesota, Swaledale and rural Carpenter. They moved to the Lutheran Retirement Home in 1999. Her hobbies included baking, sewing, playing cards, bingo and taking pictures. They had 20 foster children throughout the years. She was active in church, being a Sunday School teacher, Luther League sponsor, and a member of the church circles.

Mildred is survived by her husband Wilmer of Northwood; sons, Alan Kuntz and wife Diana of Mason City; Dennis Kuntz of Northwood; daughters Joan Adams and husband Joe of Sheffield; Marilyn Skellenger and husband Ben of Northwood; grandchildren Bradley Kuntz of Forest City; Brenda Bilharz and  husband Brian of Charles City and their children Bryce and Brooklyn; Tony Kuntz and wife Juanita of Hampton, Arkansas and their children, Autumn and Jesse; Riva Dobson and husband Bubba of Camden, Arkansas and their child Seth; Jason Adams of Joice and children Jadyn and Emily; Joey Adams and wife Sarah of Sheffield; Julie Peltier and husband Bill of Nashua and their children Melisa and Jonathan; Mike Skellenger, Mark Skellenger, and Rodney Skellenger, all of Northwood, one brother Donald Larson of Albert Lea, Minnesota; one sister Dovie Stone of Bloomington, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Johnie and sisters Mable, Esther and Donna.

Phyllis R. Schmidt funeral September 20

September 21, 2002

Phyllis R. Schmidt, age 68, of Osage, died Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center - Hospice Unit in Osage. Phyllis was born February 11, 1934 in Manly, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Orpha (Buhrer) Trettin. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Schmidt on April 25, 1954, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. Phyllis was a homemaker. She worked at Mode-0-Day in Mason City for 17 years and Fox River Mills in Osage for 15 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, making quilts, and playing Bridge.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2002, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Interment will be in the Grafton Cemetery in Grafton. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Friday.

SURVIVED BY: 3 daughters: Vicki Kroneman and her husband James of Osage, Robin Tabbert and her husband Duane of Grafton, Kimberly Spitz and her husband Michael of Osage 1 brother: Dale Trettin and his wife Coleen of Grafton, 3 brothers-in-law: Leslie Schmidt and his wife Helen of Georgetown, KY, Wayne Braun and his wife Lavon of Granite, OK, Melvyn Westcott of Savannah, GA, grandchildren: Keith Kroneman and his wife Bonnie of Osage, Tim Kroneman of Osage, Melinda Kroneman of Iowa City, lA, Kyle Tabbert and his wife Kristine of Grafton, Troy Tabbert of Grafton, Autumn Spitz of Osage. Several nieces and nephews.

PRECEDED BY: father Roy (1974), mother Orpha (2000), husband Robert (1991), sister Maxine Braun (1993), sister-in-law Judith Westcott (2001).

Rose Nickerson Funeral September 19

September 21, 2002

Funeral services for Rose Ruth Nickerson, 94, of St. Ansgar, who died on September 15, 2002, at the St. Ansgar Samaritan Center, were held on Thursday, September 19 at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. lay Amundson officiating.

Rose was born on the Gerlach farm in Newburg Township on April 16, 1908, the eighth of eleven children to Frank and Emma (Priem) Gerlach. Rose graduated from Carpenter high school in 1928. She attended music school for one-year studying piano, which she taught to many children. She married Harold Nickerson at the Gerlach home on February 19, 1930.

Rose is survived by five children, Verle and wife Evelyn of Osage; Joanne Borchardt and Husband George of Holland; Gene and wife Nedra of Paradise Valley, Arizona; H. James and wife Gretta of Marchfield, Wisconsin; Mary Loomer of St. Paul, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Gene Gerlach, St. Ansgar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband H.B. Nickerson in 1996; three brothers, Roy, Earl and Art Gerlach; five sisters, Irma, Lucille, Ruth and infant twins.

Burial was in the Newburg Cemetery in Carpenter.

Dean Arnold Wolff Funeral September 14

September 21, 2002

Funeral services for Dean Arnold Wolff, 73, formerly of Little Cedar, who died on Thursday, September 12, 2002 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held Saturday, September 14 at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan officiating.

Dean was born November 10, 1928 near Little Cedar the son of Lawrence and Alice Mable (Minnis) Wolff. He attended school in Little Cedar. Dean was an avid John Deere tractor enthusiast.

Dean is survived by a sister, Vesta Allen of Aurora, Missouri; nephew Dave Allen of Aurora, Missouri; two nieces, Carla Maples of Aurora, Missouri; Linda Hilton of Crane, Missouri; five grand nieces and nephews; aunt Elva Funte of Clarian; uncle Ivan Minnis of Aurora, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Burial was at the Liberty Cemetery in Little Cedar.

Elberta Goodew Funeral September 10

September 21, 2002

Funeral services for Elberta E. Goodew, 89, St. Ansgar, who died on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held Tuesday, September 10 at Mayer Funeral Home, Austin, with Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating.

Elberta was born July 3, 1913 in Cambridge, Iowa. The family moved to a farm in the Austin area in 1918. She attended country school and Austin High School. In 1934 the family moved to Austin. She worked for more than 32 years at Hormel Foods Corporation including 26 years in the lab of the Research and Development Department. She lived with Evelyn and Edgar Fox of St. Ansgar and was a member of the church of Christ Cedar River and a book club. She enjoyed reading, bird watch­ing and crossword puzzles and flowers.

Elberta is survived by a brother, Lawrence (Stella) Goodew of Austin; two sisters and six brothers preceded her in death. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Elsie Nicholson Funeral September 23

Funeral services for Elsie Nicholson, 96, of Rochester. Minnesota, who died on September 17, 2002, at Samaritan Bethany Heights, Rochester, were held Monday, September 23 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Rev. Tom Koelin officiating.

Elsie Minnie Krueger was born on November 3, 1905, to Albert and Martha Petznick Krueger in Worth County, Iowa, the third of five children. She attended school in Worth County and was married to Elmer Nicholson on January 13, 1926. They settled on a farm near Carpenter, later moving to a farm near Grafton. In 1957 they returned to farm in the St. Ansgar-Carpenter area until they retired from farming in 1969. They moved to St. Ansgar where they resided until moving to Rochester, Minnesota in 1984.

Elsie was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Grafton, until she moved to Rochester where she joined Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included crocheting for family and friends and square dancing.

Elsie is survived by two daughters, Irene Koster and Darlene (Ted) Clikeman, both of Rochester, Minnesota; one son, Duane (Carolyn) Nicholson of Baudette, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, an infant son Bruce, and four brothers.

Burial was in the Grafton Cemetery, Grafton, Iowa.


Alvina M. Barlow Graveside Service

Graveside services for Alvina M. Barlow, 87, who died in her sleep on September 19, 2002, at the Ambassador Good Samaritan Center, New Hope, Minnesota, will be held on Friday, September 27 at 11 a.m. at the Toeterville Cemetery.

Alvina was born December 6, 1914 in Stacyville, Iowa.

She is survived by grandchildren, Dean (Tami) Buntrock and Eric, Cory and Demi; Glen Buntrock. Karla (Jeff) Shafer and Kaitlyn and Hailey; step children Sarah (Roger) Kivela and Hannah; Bonnie Barlow, Deborah (Gary) Bertolin; Douglas (Barbara) Barlow, Steven Barlow.

She was preceded in death by husbands Fred Buntrock Sr., Walter Kara, Byron Barlow; son Fred Buntrock Jr.; grandson Wade Buntrock.
