Georgia Kusy Funeral March 23

Funeral services for Georgia Kusy, 86, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, who
died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, were held Saturday, March 23 at Bayview/Freeborn
Funeral Chapel.
Georgia Kusy was born May 11, 1915 to John, Sr. and Anna (Shebbal)
Vomacka in Oakland Township. She attended rural schools near Oakland and
Myrtle. Georgia worked on the family farm and in other homes cleaning
and caring for the sick. She also did seasonal work in the fields
harvesting potatoes and onions and topping carrots.
On September 28, 1935 she was united in marriage to Eddie Kusy in Albert
Lea. The couple farmed in the Myrtle and Hayward areas until their move
to St. Ansgar where they were farm hands for the next 23 years.
Georgia was a member of the Music Mother's Club and involved in helping
with many banquets in the area. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and
doing fancy work. Eddie and Georgia enjoyed gardening and canning and
raised several different kinds of poultry and domestic rabbits for food.
They enjoyed fishing and camping with their children. During the winter,
the family trapped hoping to earn extra money for Christmas.
Because of Eddie's health they left farming and bought a small tavern in
London, which they operated for 15 years until Eddie died in 1874.
Georgia sold the business and lived with her children in Mankato and
Lake Elmo before moving to Albert Lea.
Georgia is survived by children: Marcella and husband Robert Eischen of
Lake Elmo, Minnesota; Jerome and wife Gloria Kusy of Jacksonville, North
Carolina; and Franklin and wife Jeanine Kusy of Mankato; five grandsons,
Marc and Steven Eischen of Lake Elmo; Wayne Eischen of North Hudson,
Wisconsin; Kris Kusy of Mapleton, Minnesota; and Joey (Jerome Jr.) Kusy;
four granddaughters, Dawn Mathieson of Lakeville, Minnesota; Susan
Hoeldt of Aniak, Arkansas; Karen Luebbe of Monument, Colorado; and
Janeese Taylor of Junction City, Kansas; 14 great grandchildren; brother
Stanley Vomacka of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; sisters, Anna Chapek of
Conger; Rose Foss of London; and Alice Kycek of Albert Lea, Minnesota;
many nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eddie,
granddaughter Nancy Kusy; brothers, John Jr., Benjamin, and Frank
Vomacka; sister and brother-in-law Libby and Charley Pacovsky;
brothers-in-law, Victor Kycek and Melder Foss.
Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery.

Francis Nelson Funeral March 30

Funeral
services for Mrs. Francis (Esther) Nelson, 92, of Lyle, Minnesota, who
died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center,
were held on Saturday, March 30 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lyle,
with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating.
Esther was born on March 24, 1910, to Peter Henry and Minnie (Sievert)
Fahje in Elkton, Minnesota where she resided until 1914, when the family
moved to Kenmare, North Dakota. She was baptized on May 8, 1910 at St.
John's Lutheran Church, Elkton, Minnesota, and confirmed at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Kenmare, North Dakota on May 18, 1924.
She married Francis L. Nelson on September 6, 1936 at Trinity Lutheran
Church of Kenmare. They moved to Lyle in 1938 where they have lived
since that time. Esther enjoyed quilting, cooking and baking which she
shared with many in the community of Lyle. She was an active member of
Our Savior's Lutheran Church, a member of the Women of the ELCA in which
she held many offices, including president; she also belonged to the
Lyle Study Club and Woodbury Willing Workers.
Esther is survived by her husband Francis of Lyle; children, Shirley (Nels)
Golberg of St. Ansgar; Jean Nelson of Lyle; Roger (Marjorie) Nelson of
Lyle; Lois (Ronald) Peters of Austin, Minnesota; nine grandchildren:
Lisa (John) Dockstader; Wendy (Chris) Patterson of St. Ansgar; Brent
Golberg of Owatonna, Minnesota; Joel (Carrie) Nelson and Mark Nelson,
Lyle; Janelle (John) Achenbach of Wazeka, Wisconsin; Tracy (Jim) Crews
of Lyle; Rhonda Grandy of Helena, Montana; Robert (Marla) Peters of
Beresford, South Dakota; 12 great grandchildren; one great great
grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Irene Fahje and Helen Fahje, nieces,
nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice, brothers John,
Walter, Bernie, Martin and Lester.
Interment was at Woodbury Cemetery.

Wilfred J. Schrandt Funeral March 30

Funeral services for Wilfred J. Schrandt, 85, who died Tuesday, March
26, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, were held Saturday, March
30 at Visitation Church.
Wilfred was born September 1, 1916 to William A. and Julia Moser
Schrandt. He graduated from Visitation High School and attended Loras
College, Dubuque for one year. He worked in Fort Dodge and Des Moines
until entering the Army. Following basic training he trained in Ireland
and then to North Africa and Italy where he served as a medic. After his
discharge he began working at the Stacyville Savings Bank until his
retirement after 40 years.
He was a member of the Hale Penney Fuller Posy of the American Legion
serving as finance officer, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of
Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was the first chairman of
the Mitchell County Conservation Board, serving for 20 years.
Wilfred is survived by his wife, Rita, two sons, Richard and wife Susan
of Caldwell, Idaho, and Charles and wife Beverly of South St. Paul,
Minnesota; two daughters, Virginia Schrandt, Stacyville Nursing Home,
and Marie and husband Kelly Hendrix of Caldwell; seven grandchildren,
Christian and Michael Schrandt, Krista Naymik, Kara and Nathan Schrandt
and Allison and Claire Hendrix,; two sisters, Rose Klapperich and Mrs.
Clem (Alvina) Theobald of Stacyville, and one brother Robert of Los
Alamo, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence, Leander,
Mike and Edwin; two sisters, Connie Pitzen and Minnie Anderson.
Burial was in Visitation Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandchildren,
Christian and Michael Schrandt, Nathan Schrandt, Krista Naymik, Allison
and Claire Hendrix.

Marie Juenger Funeral April 4

Funeral services for Marie Juenger, 46, of St. Ansgar, who died Monday,
April 1, 2002 near Carpenter, were held Thursday, April 4 at the St.
Ansgar Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating.
Marie was born on September 27, 1955 in Rochester, Minnesota to Virl and
Betty (Heaps) Deal. She attended St. Ansgar High School and graduated
La' James College.
She married Maurice Juenger on March 13, 1982 at the Methodist Church in
St. Ansgar. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, fishing, camping, playing
cards and making bread. Her family and grandchildren were her biggest
joy. Marie was a member of St. Ansgar Catholic Church.
Marie is survived by her husband Maurice; three sons, Donnie, Nathan,
and Noah, St. Ansgar; two daughters, Ellena Rivera of Carpenter and
Toleka Juenger of St. Ansgar; two grandchildren, Alex and Jacob Rivera;
her father, Virl Deal, Grafton; two sisters, Lorraine Beland of St.
Ansgar and Nancy Short of Stacyville; one brother, Virl Deal Jr. of
Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Burial was in the Newburg Cemetery in Carpenter.

Almo Milfred Jahr Funeral April 5

Funeral
services for Almo Milfred Jahr, 73, of Toeterville, who died Sunday,
March 31, 2002 at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona, will be held at 1
p.m. Friday, April 5 at Faith Lutheran Church in London, Minnesota, with
Rev. Reuben Unseth officiating.
Almo was born March 17, 1929 to Adolph and Marian (Nelson) Jahr in
Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized on June 2, 1929
and confirmed on May 16, 1943 at Mona Lutheran Church.
Almo graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1947 where he was
recognized by the FFA as a "Star Farmer."
On August 22, 1953, he was united in marriage to Lillian Ardine Johnson
at Mona Lutheran Church. Seven children were born to this union. Almo
was a livestock and grain farmer north of St. Ansgar, retiring from
farming in 1992. He also operated the Bolan Store in Bolan, Iowa for the
past 25 years. Almo and Lillian had enjoyed spending the last 15 years
wintering in Mesa, Arizona. They moved to Toeterville in the fall of
2001.
Almo was a past president of the Otranto Farm Bureau, served on Mitchell
County FmHA board, Toeterville Elevator board, former member of Otranto
School board, served on many boards and committees as a member of the
Mona Lutheran Church and Faith Lutheran Church. Almo enjoyed singing,
hunting, fishing, playing cards, traveling, vacationing and camping with
his family and friends.
Almo is survived by his wife, Lillian of Toeterville; five daughters,
Liana (Dean) Church of Osage; Marilyn (Keith) Pitzen of Stacyville;
Nancy (Dallas) Huddleson and Julie (Elton) Butler, both of St. Ansgar;
Paula (Dana) Milbrandt of Osage; two sons, John (Diane) Jahr, and Peter
(Beth) Jahr, both of St. Ansgar; 20 grand-children: Alicia and Clara
Huddleson; Ashley and Mitchell Butler; Christopher, Nichole and Mikaela
Jahr; Victoria, Andrew, Annmari and Rachel Milbrandt; and Brady Jahr;
one great granddaughter, Anali Wagner; two sisters, Marlys (Loyal) Moore
of Harlan, Iowa; and Eileen (Marly) Kittleson of St. Ansgar; Aunt Helen
Nelson of St. Ansgar; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins,
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Philip Church in 1988,
and granddaughter Melissa Jahr in 1992.
Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Mona.

Arminda Buechele Funeral April 6

Funeral services for Arminda E. Buechele, 98, of Grafton, who died
Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, will
be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in
Grafton with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Visitation will be
one hour before services at the church.
Arminda was born March 11, 1904 at Belgrade, Minnesota, the daughter of
Harry and Minnie (Lutz) Rappath. She attended school at Belgrade, Eden
Valley and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Arminda was united in marriage to
Emil Buechele on September 14, 1923 in Minneapolis. The couple moved to
Grafton in 1926. She worked in WalkÕs Store for over twenty-five years.
Arminda was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton.
Arminda is survived by her daughter, Jane Buechele of Grafton; a sister,
Berneice Maker (who made her home with the couple) and her husband Bob
of Corvallis, Montana; a brother, Rev. Harry Rappath and wife Evelyn of
Prescott, Arizona; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emil in 1985;
sisters, Hazel Gerstenkorn, Vera Bork, Elsie Rappath; brother Bill
Rappath.
Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Funeral April 8
Funeral services for Wilma Ruth Perkins, 88, of Northwood, who died
on April 4, 2002 in Mason City, were held Monday, April 8, 2002 at the
Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with Rev. Kathy Larson
officiating.
Wilma was born on October 24, 1913 in Northwood to Sam O. and Marie (Allanson)
Thompson. Wilma graduated from Northwood High School and received a
teaching certificate from Iowa State Normal College in Cedar Falls,
Iowa. She taught school for several years in rural Worth County.
Wilma and Clinton (Happy) Perkins were married in St. Ansgar on
August 21, 1937. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and helper to her
husband on the various farms they lived on in Worth and Mitchell
counties. She served as bookkeeper for the Deer Creek Cheese Factory.
She was an expert seamstress. She was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran
Church, singing in the choir, a member of a women's quarter, often
served as circle leader and held various offices in the Ladies Aid. She
served as Christmas Seals township chairperson several years, was active
in the Republican party, Worth County Farm Bureau Women, Carpenter
Friendship Club. She enjoyed bowling, music but her favorite pastime was
playing cards with family and friends.
Wilma is survived by five daughters: Carol (Lloyd) Tinkey of Yankton,
South Dakota; Doreen (Duane) Dorenkamp of Sheffield and Lansing; Eileen
Brunsvold of Clear Lake; Nancy (Richard) Vaught of Greer, South
Carolina; Barbara (Dale) Eppens of Clear Lake; 12 grandchildren; 13
great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clinton; sister
Fern Thompson.
Burial was in the Deer Creek Cemetery,
Carpenter.

Earl
Finch Funeral March 21
April 17, 2002
Funeral services for Earl Frank Finch, 80, of Cambridge, who died March
17, 2002in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, were held Thursday, March 21 at
Cambridge Funeral Home - Strike Chapel with Rev. Erling Tungseth
officiating.
Earl was born November 26, 1921, at Deer Creek Township, Worth County,
to Melvin and Alice Finch. He graduated from Otranto High School. Earl
then enlisted in the US Navy serving his country from August 1942 to
December 1945, then doing various jobs until 1960 when he started
working for the Department of Natural Resources. He was a heavy
equipment operator and built dams at the Carlos Avery Game Refuge. Earl
retired from the DNR in April 1982.
He was married to Hazel Evgen September 15, 1978 and they made their
home on Skogman Lake in Cambridge. He enjoyed working with wood, stamp
collecting, playing cards, traveling and wintering in Florida.
Earl is survived by his son, Gordon Evgen of Cambridge; sister-in-law
Margaret Finch of Maning; six grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren,
three great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel; sisters,
Florence, Elna and Iva; a brother Russell.
Burial was in Cambridge Union Cemetery with military honors provided by
Howard McCarty American Legion Post 290 of Cambridge.

Anton "Tony" Pike Funeral April 18

Funeral services for Anton "Tony" Pike, 90, of St. Ansgar, who died
Saturday, April 13, 2002, at his daughter's home in Mason City, were
held Thursday, April 18 at First Lutheran Church here with the Rev.
Robert Porisch officiating.
Tony was born on January 19, 1912 in Deer Creek Township, Iowa, to Edwin
Roy Pike and Mary Johanna (Johnson) Pike. He married Alice Campbell on
July 5, 1942 in Austin, Minnesota. He lived in the St. Ansgar area all
his life. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. He
enjoyed his big garden and playing cards. His biggest joy was his
family.
Tony is survived by two daughters, Janet and husband Earl Randall of
Waterloo, and Susan and husband Gary Squier of Mason City; one son,
Gerald and wife Judy Pike of Albert Lea, Minnesota; eight grandchildren,
Teresa Zuke, Waterloo; Tamara and husband Jeff Whalen, Colorado
Springs,, Colorado; Brian and wife Andrea Halama, St. Paul, Minnesota;
Jodee and husband Ben McCallum of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Michelle
Squier of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Brian and wife Ann Squier of Colo,
Iowa; Kelly and husband Kenny Walker, Hampton; Kyle and wife Heidi Pike
of Buffalo Center; nine great grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Joshua,
Danielle, Kailey, Mason, Noah, Paige and Logan; one great great
grand-child, Abigal; three sisters, Edna Knutson of California, Deloris
Thompson of Toeterville, Crystal Braun of Grafton; a sister-in-law,
Berniece Pike of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice in 1995; four
sisters, Laura, Evelyn, Pearl and Dianna; four brothers, Erwin, Earl,
Lawrence and Warren.
Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Funeral services for Emma M. Skjeveland, 86, St. Ansgar, who died
Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center,

Emma Minnie (Rasmussen) Skjeveland was born May 19, 1915 to Peter and
Ida (White) Rasmussen in Worth County, Iowa. She was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She received her education at Deer
Creek No. 6 school.
On March 9, 1935 she married Clarence Gaylord Skjeveland at First
Lutheran Church, in St. Ansgar. They farmed in the Manchester and
Conger, Minnesota area from 1935 until 1971. They attended Grace
Lutheran Church in Alden, Minnesota. They retired to an acreage near
Otranto for about 18 years. They joined Deer Creek Lutheran Church at
Carpenter.
She worked part-time at the lumber yard in Carpenter for several of
those years. In 1989 they moved into an apartment in St. Ansgar where
she lived until April 4, 2002 when she fell and broke her hip. Emma
enjoyed having company and conversation, playing cards, fishing trips
with family, dancing and her grandchildren.
Emma is survived by one son, Charles and wife Kathy Skjeveland of
Cresco; four grandchildren, Christine Skjeveland of Claremont,
Minnesota; Melissa Skjeveland of No. Ft. Myers, Florida; Raylene Hylland
of Austin, Texas; and Kirk Hylland of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two great
grandchildren, Samantha Hrdlichka and Stewart Graves and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, eight
sisters.
Burial was in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
