Donald "Jack" Sonberg

Jack Sonberg,
died on Saturday, February 7,
2004, at the Floyd County
Memorial Hospital in Charles
City, following a lengthy
illness.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, February
10, at the Saint John
Evangelical Lutheran Church. The
Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiated.
Burial was in the Osage
Cemetery, Osage.
Donald Lavern
Sonberg, was born on February
24, 1930 at St. Ansgar, the son
of Henry and Louise (Everest)
Sonberg. He received his
education at the Osage High
School. On July 14, 1949, he was
united in marriage to Doris
Wieland at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. They farmed
near Osage until moving to the
Colwell area in 1956. Jack was a
farmer at heart and ran a large
dairy operations as well as
raised hogs.
His favorite
pastimes included craft
woodworking and attending the
chuck-wagon races in which many
of his children were
participants. Jack loved his
family and he looked forward to
spending time with all of them
but especially the
grandchildren.
Donald's
survivors include his wife,
Doris of Charles City; six
children, Delores "Dee" (Bob)
Onken of Osage, Darwin (Norma)
Sonberg of Orchard, Denise (Dan)
Riden of Nashua, Dawn (Courtney)
Thomas of Ionia, Dale Sonberg
and special friend, Shawna of
Charles City and Dennis (Lisa)
Sonberg of Charles City; 12
grandchildren; a
great-granddaughter; and two
sisters, Betty (Gene) Clark of
Orchard and Sheryl (Bob) Nassif
of Rochester, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a son, Daron Sonberg;
and an infant brother.
The Hauser Funeral Home, Charles
City, was in charge of the
arrangements.

Theresa Grguric

Theresa Grguric,
age 84, of Osage and formerly of
Chicago, Illinois, died on
Sunday, February 8, 2004, at the
Faith Home in Osage.
A Mass of
Christian Burial will be held at
9:30 a.m., on Thursday, February
12, at the St. Symphorosa
Catholic Church in Chicago, with
interment in the Queen of Heaven
Cemetery in Westchester,
Illinois. There will be a public
visitation from 1:30 p.m. to
2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February
10, with a Scriptural Wake
Service at 2:00 p.m., on
Tuesday, at the Faith Home in
Osage. There will also be
visitation from 7-8:00 p.m., on
Tuesday, at the Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home in Osage.
Theresa was born
on January 21, 1920, to Franz
and Marija (Nadler) Wahl in
Vocin, Yugoslavia. She was
united in marriage to Frank
Grguric on Auguat 28, 1935 in
Vocin, Yugoslavia. In 1941
during World War II, while her
husband was in the Army,
Theresa, her three daughters and
Theresa's parents had to leave
their farm in Croatia and
eventually settled in Austria.
The family emigrated to the
United States in 1952 under a
sponsorship program. They farmed
in the Ossian and Roseville area
and moved to Des Moines in 1955.
Frank and Theresa lived in Des
Moines until 1964, when they
moved to Chicago. Theresa was
employed for many years at Mrs.
Grass Noodle Soup Company, until
her retirement. Frank died in
1978. Theresa moved to the Faith
Home in October of 2002. She
enjoyed doing needlepoint and
making craft items.
Her survivors
include two daughters, Theresa
(Anthony) Pragovich of Lemont,
Illinois and their son, Anthony
(Mary) Pragovich and their
children, Stephen, Elizabeth and
Anthony of Lockport, Illinois,
Rose Grenko of Des Moines and
her children, John (Deb) Grenko
and their daughters, Ashley,
Katie and Maggie of Des Moines,
Marilyn (Don) Cole and their
daughter, Lindsey of Longmont,
Colorado, Joey Grenko, Andy
Grenko and Mary Jane Grenko, all
of Des Moines, Margaret (Gary)
Smolik of Osage and their
children, Sister Katherine Ann,
OSB of Sand Springs, Oklahoma,
Frank (Becky) Smolik and their
daughter, Megan of Colorado
Springs, Colorado, Mark Smolik
of Floyd, Michael Smolik of
Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Theresa was
preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Frank
Grguric in 1978; and
great-grandson, Jonathan Grenko.

Randy Ogden, age
52, of Osage, died on Monday,
February 9, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services
were held on Friday, February
13, at the Christian and
Missionary Alliance Church in
Osage. Reverend Rick Magstadt
officiated. The body was
cremated.
Randy Lynn Ogden,
was born on December 3, 1951 in
Osage, the son of Nolan K. and
Gaye (Schmidt) Ogden. He was
raised in Osage and attended the
Osage Schools. Randy was married
to Linda Williamson in Cedar
Rapids on December 2, 1975. He
was currently employed as a
mechanic at Fox River Mills in
Osage. He enjoyed fishing,
woodworking and playing games
with his grandchildren.
His survivors
include his mother, Gaye Younker
of Osage; three daughters, Angie
Ogden of Osage, Stacy (Chad)
Ballard of Beattyville, Kentucky
and Sara Ogden and fiancée, Mark
Beyer of Osage; one son, Jim
(Brandy) Ogden of Iowa Falls;
four grandchildren, Cory Ogden,
Chelsey Duncomb, Ashley Ballard
and Mackenzie Ogden; one sister,
Jessica Lutz of Osage; two
brothers, Rodney "Zeke" (Sally)
Ogden of Osage and Kevin Ogden
of Cedar Rapids.
Randy was
preceded in death by his father,
Nolan Ogden; and one grandson,
Chayse Duncomb.

Fae Elizabeth Soehren

Fae Elizabeth
Soehren, died on Wednesday,
February 11, 2004, at the New
Ulm, Minnesota, Medical Center.
One of two
funeral services was held on
Monday, February 16, at the
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Kimball Township,
Jackson County, Minnesota.
Burial was in the church
cemetery. Another service for
Fae will be held at the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church, in
McGregor, Minnesota, on
Saturday, February 28. Memorials
are preferred to LWML.
Fae Elizabeth
Soehren, the daughter of Daniel
and Paulina (Jepsen) Soehren,
was born on June 11, 1922 in the
family home in rural Windom,
Minnesota. She was baptized and
confirmed on May 10, 1936 at the
Lutheran Church of Our Savior in
Windom. As a child, she attended
the rural District 67 School and
graduated from the Windom High
School in 1939. Fae received her
teacher training at the former
Mankato Normal School and taught
in country schools and in
Chandler, Minnesota for a few
years. She was united in
marriage to Reverend Paul
Porisch on October 6, 1946 at
the Lutheran Church of Our
Savior in Windom. They made
their home in Slayton, the
McGregor area, Wheaton and
Gibbon, where her husband served
as pastor.
Fae was active in
all parishes, serving in
Lutheran Women's Missionary
League as a district and state
officer, VBS and Sunday School
teacher, AAL, Cradle Roll,
"Do-Day", church choirs and
prepared banners and bulletin
boards. She returned to college,
earning a Bachelor of Arts and
Master's Degree in Early
Childhood Education from Mankato
State College. She was a teacher
at the St. Peter's Lutheran
School near Gibbon and taught
kindergarten at the Gibbon
Elementary School. She began the
Aitkin County Adult Literacy
Program.
Fae was an
officer and member of the
Friends of the Library, AARP,
Writer's Club, Kinship Program,
Lake Minnewawa Association, ADK,
PTA's, McGregor Area Arts
Council and also recently joined
the Red Hat Society. Fae was the
recipient of the Outstanding
Senior Citizen Award of Aitkin
County. Fae will be remembered
for her unwavering faith in
Christ, strong character, love
of children, love of popcorn and
bonfires and her zest for life.
She was a member of the Our
Savior's Lutheran Church in
McGregor, Minnesota.
She is survived
by her sons, Bruce (Phyllis)
Porisch of Flandreau, South
Dakota (Warren, John and Lisa,
Eric and Lisa, Kyle, Matt),
Pastor Robert (Jan) Porisch of
St. Ansgar, Iowa (Thea, Luke and
Megan, Gretchen); daughters,
Kathryn (Rich) Monson of Gibbon
(Joanna and Mark Bolick,
Kristina, Mark), Jean (Jim)
Scheman of New Ulm (Paul,
Tricia, Megan), Gretchen Porisch

Guy D. Benson,
age 70, of Dike and formerly of
Orchard, died on Thursday,
February 12, 2004, in Torrance,
California.
Funeral services
will be held at 1:30 p.m., on
Saturday, February 21, at the
First Congregational Church, UCC
in Orchard, with the Reverend
William Griffee officiating.
Burial will be in the Orchard
Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 6-8:00 p.m., on Friday,
February 20, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage and will continue one hour
before the services at the
church.
Guy D. Benson,
was born on February 3, 1934 on
the family farm in East Lincoln
Township, Mitchell County, to
Paul A. and Helen A.
(Hoisington) Benson. He attended
country school and graduated
from the Orchard High School in
1951. He attended Luther College
in Decorah for two years. Guy
was united in marriage to Nedra
Lack on February 1, 1954 in
Leon, Iowa. They moved to
Inglewood, California in 1954,
at which time he began work at
the "Hollywood Turf Club"
racetrack. During the 33 years
he worked there he became
superintendent of grounds
maintenance. They lived in
Inglewood, Hawthorne, Anaheim
and Yorba Linda, California,
prior to Nedra's death in 1998.
Guy retired from the racetrack
and built several homes, moving
to Lakewood, California and then
to Dike, Iowa.
Guy was a devoted
son, brother, husband, father,
grandfather and steadfastly
loyal to his friends.
He is survived by
two daughters, Deborah Benson of
Long Beach, California and
Denise Lynch and husband, James
of Lomita, California; three
grandchildren, Michael Huss of
Long Beach, California, Michael
Lynch and Megan Lynch, both of
Torrance, California; sister,
Imogene (Dean) Barton of
Nottingham, Pennsylvania; four
brothers, Wayne (Audrey) Benson
of Aurora, Colorado, Wesley
(Patricia) Benson of Cedar
Falls, Darwin (Carole) Benson of

Lorene Mae
(Cockrum) Eastman, age 76, of
North Mankato, died on Friday,
February 13, 2004, at the
Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital
in Mankato, Minnesota.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, February
17, at the Clasen-Jordan
Mortuary Chapel, with The
Reverend Forrest Miller
officiating. Interment was in
the Osage Cemetery in Osage.
Lorene was born
on July 10, 1927 in Osage, Iowa,
to Charley and Della (Miller)
Cockrum. She was married to
Herbert Blaine Eastman on June
9, 1945 in Osage. In 1950, the
family moved to Austin,
Minnesota, when Herbert took
employment with Hormel Foods.
Lorene spent her early years as
a nursing assistant at the St.
Olaf Hospital and several
nursing homes in Austin. She
remembered those times fondly
throughout her life. Later she
and Herbert owned and operated
two diet centers in Osage and
Decorah, Iowa. Lorene will
always be remembered for her
ladylike bearing and grace and
her undying devotion to her
family. She never missed an
opportunity to brag about her
grandchildren's accomplishments
to anyone who would listen. We
will always remember her and
cherish her memory throughout
our lives.
She is survived
by her husband, Herbert Eastman
of North Mankato, Minnesota;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Sandra and Tim Schoenwetter of
Stewartville, Minnesota and Jane
E. Eastman and Phillip L. Henry
of North Mankato, Minnesota;
sister, Nordicia Tobler of
Kansas City, Kansas; and nieces
and nephews.
Lorene was
preceded in death by her

Ruth B. Stolt,
92, of Waterloo, died on Friday,
February 13, 2004, at the
Mitchell County Regional Health
Center in Osage, from cancer.
Funeral services
were held at 11:00 a.m., on
Tuesday, February 17, at the
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in
Osage, with Rev. Dennis Hanson
officiating. Graveside services
were conducted by Pastor Dearl
Thomas, at 2:30 p.m., on
Tuesday, at the Garden of
Memories Cemetery in Waterloo.
Ruth
was born on July 4, 1911, on a
farm near Independence, Iowa.
She was the daughter of Howard
and Lillie Mae Steele. Ruth
moved to Waterloo in 1929 where
she met her husband Stanley F.
Stolt. They were married in
Stillwater, Minnesota on July
25, 1931. They built and
operated the Happy Days Resort
at Cross Lake, Minnesota for a
number of years. Ruth was a
volunteer in the Waterloo School
System for several years.
Left to cherish
her memories are her two
children, Janet Jorgensen and
her husband, Wilmer of Osage and
Stan Stolt of Sacramento,
California; two grandchildren,
Julie Beghtel Oettel and her
husband, Dave of Littleton,
Colorado and Steven Beghtel of
Sarasota, Florida; one
great-granddaughter, Katelyn
Marie Beghtel of Sarasota
Florida; and one niece and a
nephew.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her
husband in September 1988; and
her daughter, Loretta Joy Stolt
of Waterloo in May 1987; 2
sisters; and 5 brothers.

Berdene Lockwood

Berdene Henriette
Lockwood, of Osage, died on
Saturday, February 14, 2004, at
the Good Samaritan Center in St.
Ansgar.
Private family
services will be held in New
York City, at a later date and
inurnment will be in the Orchard
Cemetery.
Berdene was born
in Grundy Center, the daughter
of Charles A. and Frances
(Lhamon) Fink. She attended
country schools in the area and
in Devonia and graduated from
the Orchard High School. Berdene
attended Iowa State Teachers
College in Cedar Falls, majoring
in elementary music education.
In 1932, she married Marvin
Claire Lockwood of New Haven in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Berdene
made Osage her home from 1945
until 1959 and was a member of
the First Congregational Church.
She moved to New York City to
live with her daughter's family
and was employed as a
receptionist at the Japan Trade
Center and radio station WNEW
and was a saleswoman at the
Martin's Department Store. Since
1981, after her retirement she
returned to live in Osage.
Her interests
included the theater and ballet,
fashion and collecting Wedgwood
and Lalique.
Her survivors
include a daughter, Diane Olsen
of Brooklyn, New York; two
grandchildren, Laura Olsen of
Norwalk, CN and Christopher
Olsen of Manhattan, New York;
and two beloved nieces, Phyllis
Coyle of Downers Grove, Illinois
and Connie Mauser of Port
Aransas, Texas.
Berdene was
preceded in death by her
parents; and four brothers,
Milo, Elwyn, Dale and Edwin
Fink.
The

Ronnie Gene Grinstead

Ronnie Gene
Grinstead, age 62, of Charles
City, died on Tuesday, February
17, 2004, at the VA Hospital in
Chicago, Illinois.
A memorial
service will be held at a later
date. His body was cremated..
Ronnie Grinstead,
was born on January 31, 1942 at
New Hampton, Iowa. He graduated
from the Osage High School in
1960 and from Muscatine Junior
College in 1969. He received a
certificate from the American
Red Cross for skills training
for Human Services for
Paraprofessionals and Module II:
Casework Skills in SAF and SMF &
V and a special citation for
exceptional volunteer service
for 1990-1991 and a certificate
of appreciation in support of
"Operation Desert Storm,"
1990-91. He married Joyce Carrol
Hinders on April 7, 1995.
Ronnie's hobbies
included gardening and lawn
care, crafts of all types and
refinishing furniture. He had
memberships in the American
Bowling Association from 1992
thru 1999 and the YMCA.
He served in the United States
Navy during the Vietnam War from
June 1960 to March of 1964 as an
airplane mechanic and was
stationed on the USS Lexington,
an aircraft carrier.
He is survived by
his children, Ronnie Gene
Grinstead, Shelia Marie
Grinstead and a grandson, Devon
Rashad Grinstead of Virginia;
brothers, Bill Grinstead of
Osage, Donald (Melva) Grinstead
of Lewiston, Idaho, James

Bertha Tresch
February 25, 2004
Bertha Tresch,
age 88, of Mankato, Minnesota
and formerly of Osage, died on
Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at
the Laurel's Edge Assisted
Living in Mankato.
A Mass of
Christian Burial was held on
Friday, February 20, at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Osage, with Rev. Mark Reasoner
officiating. Interment was in
the Sacred Heart Cemetery in
Osage.
Bertha was born
on December 31, 1915 at Omaha,
Nebraska, the daughter of Jules
and Zulma (Dezutter) Serleth. In
1922, she moved with her parents
to the Orchard area, graduating
from the Orchard High School in
1933. Bertha married Rolland
Clark on November 20, 1937 in
Osage. They farmed near Orchard.
To this union, four children
were born. Rolland died in
February of 1944. She continued
to live on the farm. On December
25, 1948, she married Carroll
Ford. They moved to Little Cedar
in 1951 where they farmed. In
1963, they moved to Osage.
Carroll died in December of
1964. Bertha married Lloyd Nack
on November 30, 1968 in Osage.
Lloyd died in September of 1982.
She married Alfred Tresch on
January 14, 1984 in Osage. They
moved to Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
They returned to Osage, where he
died on February 2, 1994. She
moved to Mankato, Minnesota in
1998.
She worked with
A.G. Dunkelberg, attorney, in
tax preparation, and later was
employed at the Mitchell County
Court House. She was active in
4-H and served as a group
leader. She was a member of the
Sacred Heart Catholic Guild in
Osage. She enjoyed sewing,
quilting, knitting, gardening,
traveling, and spending time
with her grandchildren.
Bertha is
survived by two daughters, Nancy
(Gervase) Hemann of Riceville
and Elizabeth Tabor of Mankato,
Minnesota; a sister, Elaine
Wardlow of Pine Bluff, Arkansas;
eight grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; three
stepchildren, Therese Pudenz of
West Salem, Wisconsin, Duane
Tresch of Floyd and Carol Herfal
of Ferryville, Wisconsin; and
numerous step-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; four
husbands; a son, Russell Clark
and an infant son, Ronald Clark;
three brothers, George Serleth,
Eugene Serleth and Morris
Serleth; one sister, Irene
Speers; an infant
great-grandson, Jordan Wiltse;
and a son-in-law, Norbert Theis.
The

Robert F. McSweeney

Robert F.
McSweeney, 85, of Cedar Falls
and formerly of Osage and Fort
Dodge, Iowa, died of heart
failure on Friday, February 20,
2004, at the Sartori Memorial
Hospital in Cedar Falls.
Memorial services
will be held on Saturday, March
13, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, with
inurnment in the Sacred Heart
Catholic Cemetery, both in
Osage, Iowa. A celebration of
his life will be held at the VFW
Post in Osage immediately after
the services. There will be no
visitation. The Dahl-Van
Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in
charge of the arrangements.
Robert
was born on November 16, 1918 in
Liberty Township, Mitchell
County, Iowa, the son of Stewart
Cornelius & Charlotte Agnes
(McGrane) McSweeney. Robert
attended Mitchell county
schools, graduating from the
Little Cedar High School in
1936. He married Maxine Marie
Penney whom he had met in the
first grade in Little Cedar, on
November 25, 1936 at Cresco,
Iowa. He served in the U. S.
Army Air Corp in the European
Theatre of Operations from 1943
to 1945. The family also lived
for a time in Portland, Oregon,
Portalise, New Mexico and
Bangor, Maine. Returning to
Mitchell County after the war,
Robert farmed until 1962 when
they moved to Fort Dodge where
he was employed at Coats
Manufacturing and then Standard
Engineering, until retiring in
1980. Robert and Maxine moved
moved back to Osage in 2000,
where they lived until moving to
Cedar Falls to be near their
daughter in 2003.
Robert had a life
long love of horses, raising and
showing quarter horses until he
was 75 years old. He shared his
love of the sport by assisting
and teaching literally hundreds
of people, including his only
daughter and grandson.
Survivors include
his wife of 67 years, Maxine
McSweeney of Cedar Falls; his
daughter, Kay McSweeney also of
Cedar Falls; his grandson,
Michael Higgins of Indianapolis,
Indiana; his brother, Richard
(Jan) McSweeney of Hampton; and
his sister, Phyllis Schrock of
Charles City; and dozens of
nieces and nephews.
Robert was
preceded in death by his
parents; one granddaughter in
infancy; one brother, Roland
McSweeney of Osage; and four
sisters, Marie "Sis" Devereaux
Williams of New Ulm, Minnesota,
Helen Canny of Osage and
Katherine and Patricia
McSweeney, both of Osage.

Morrison, 85, of Osage, died on
Sunday, February 22, 2004, at
the Good Samaritan Center in St.
Ansgar.
Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 a.m., on
Wednesday, February 25, at the
United Church of Christ in
Osage. Reverend Robert Melhorn
will officiate. Interment will
be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday,
at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home in Osage, with a Masonic
Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation
will continue one hour before
the services at the church on
Wednesday. In lieu of flowers

United Church of Christ in Osage
or the Good Samaritan Home in
St. Ansgar.
Max Morrison, was
born on June 9, 1918 at
Unionville, Iowa, the son of
Myron Byrl and Verna (Wamsley)
Morrison. He moved with his
parents to Mitchell County in
1921 and attended schools in
Mitchell County. He was baptized
at the Christian and Missionary
Alliance Church in West Lincoln,
Mitchell County in 1925. He
became a member of the United
Church of Christ in 1945 and
served on many boards of the
church. He married Leone Folsom
on October 2, 1937. They farmed
all of their married life, until
retiring to Osage in 1979.
He was active in
the Farm Bureau as a farmer, was
a 50-year member of the Osage
Masonic Lodge 102 AF & AM and
was a Past Master of that Lodge.
He also served on the Orchard
School Board for several years,
served on the Faith Lutheran
Home Board and was a director on
the REC Board at St. Ansgar for
17 years. After the onset of
Alzheimer's Disease in 1994, he
resided for three and one-half
years in the Patty Elwood Center
at Cresco and for four and
one-half years in the Good
Samaritan Center.
His main interest
was being a good farmer. Other
interests and enjoyments were
being with his family, fishing,
golfing and going on many bus
tours. He and his wife spent
several winters in Arizona and
Texas.
His survivors
include two sons and one
daughter, Larry Morrison and his
wife, Cheri and children, Kyle
Morrison and Sue Miller, all of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Judenne
Kocer of Hiawatha and children,
Myron Hein of Fremont, Nebraska
and Melinda Whitmer of Platte
City, Missouri, Richard Morrison
and his wife, Sharolyn of
Oakland, Minnesota and children,
Joel Morrison of Geneva,
Minnesota, John Morrison of
Humboldt, Matthew Morrison of
Shreveport, Louisiana; nine
great-grandchildren; eight
step-grandchildren; 11
step-great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Don Morrison of Osage
and Paul Morrison of Kenai,
Alabama; and one sister, Esther
Kemp of Davenport.
Max was preceded
in death by his parents; his
wife, Leone Morrison on October
20, 2003; one son, Murray
Morrison in 1979; one grandson,
Todd Morrison in 1978; and one
sister, Eloise Ryan in 1999.

Galen H. Conrad

Galen Henry "Bub"
Conrad, age 63, of Riceville,
died on Sunday, February 22,
2004, at the Riceville Rest
Home, after a lengthy battle
with cancer.
Funeral services
were held on Thursday, February
26, at the United Methodist
Church in Riceville, Iowa.
Pastor Michael Carey officiated.
"Bub" was born on
April 4, 1940, the son of Carl
and Dora (Bird) Conrad, in
Liberty Township, Mitchell,
Iowa. He attended school in
Little Cedar and graduated in
1958. He was united in marriage
to Frances (Ray) Armstrong on
August 17, 1973. The couple
resided in Little Cedar until
1976 when they moved to
Riceville. "Bub" was a very
dedicated, hardworking man. When
he wasn't fixing/clearing roads
for Mitchell County or taking
time off work to farm for
Pearson's, he was spending time
with his friends and family
doing what he will always be
remembered for, his love of
cooking. Bub also enjoyed
camping, fishing, touring the
countryside and who could forget
his love of gardening and
planting his petunias in any
container he could fit in the
yard.
His survivors
include his wife of 30 years,
Fran; three children, Steven
(Judy) Armstrong of Ft. Worth,
Texas, Teresa (Mark) Klein of
Riceville and Barbra Hoglan of
Ft. Worth, Texas; seven
grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Maryann (Roger) Schnell
of Osage and Sandy (Dan) Vitek
of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one
brother, Dennis (Deb) Conrad of
Little Cedar; and many nieces,
nephews and friends.
Galen was
preceded in death by his
parents.

Wilbur Winterton
March 3, 2004
Wilbur Winterton,
98, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died on
Monday, February 23, 2004, at
the Good Samaritan Center, St.
Ansgar.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, February
27, at the Schroeder & Sites
Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, with
Rev. Byron Northwick
officiating. Burial was in the
Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St.
Ansgar.
Wilbur was born
on May 22, 1905 in Thor, Iowa,
the son of George and Eda
(Flemmig) Winterton. He grew up
in, and attended school in the
Thor and Forest City areas. He
farmed in the Grafton and St.
Ansgar area. He was also
involved in trucking and
agri-products. He served in the
United States Army at Camp
Carson, Colorado from 1942 to
1943. He retired in 1970 moving
to St. Ansgar, where he resided
until entering the nursing home
for the last two months. He was
a member of the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Wilbur is
survived by three sisters,
Vernice Wetzel of St. Ansgar,
Laura Mostek of Mitchell and
Marcella Ohnemus of Fall Creek,
Wisconsin; and many nieces and
nephews.
Wilbur was
preceded in death by his
parents; two sisters, Mayme
Lovik and Ester Watton; and
three brothers, Alvie, Earl and
Merle.

Gavin Robert Bollman
March 3, 2004
A funeral Mass
for Gavin Bollman, was held on
Tuesday, March 2, at the
Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church, Charles City. The
Reverend Carl Ries, pastor,
celebrated the Mass. Burial was
in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Gavin Robert
Bollman, infant son of Trent and
Melissa (Downing) Bollman, of
Orchard, was born on Friday,
February 20, 2004. Gavin died on
Thursday, February 26, 2004, at
the Mercy Medical Center in Des
Moines.
Along with his
parents, Gavin is survived by
his paternal grandparents,
Robert and Maxine Bollman of
Osage; maternal grandparents,
William and Mary Downing of
Charles City; maternal
great-grandparents, Jim and
Carol Downing of Charles City;
three aunts, Amy (Rod) Hillegas,
Mandy (Tracy) Baxter and Lisa
(Andy) Hintgen, all of Charles
City; and an uncle, Cass (Josie)
Bollman of Pleasant Hill.
Gavin was
preceded in death by his
paternal great-grandparents,
Loyal and Marie Kobernusz and
Lawrence and Helen Bollman; and
maternal great-grandparents,
Russell and Marie McAloon.
