Stella Barbara Weber, age 86, of
Lamar, Missouri, died on Sunday,
April 1, 2001, at the Christian
Health Care of Nevada.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, April 4, at the St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, Lamar,
with Rev. jacob Biernaci
officiating. Burial will be in
the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lamar,
Missouri.
Stella was born
to Edward Frank Hemann and Lena
(Klapperich) Hemann in Meyer,
Mitchell County, Iowa. She lived
in Barton County, Missouri for
50 years. She married George
Joseph Weber on February 18,
1919 at Meyer, Iowa. George died
on August 28, 1991. Stella was a
homemaker.
Preceding her in
death were one daughter; one
son; three brothers; and one
sister.
Those that
survive her include three sons,
Duane Weber of Lamar, Missouri,
John Weber of Sheldon, Missouri
and Martin Weber of Iantha,
Missouri; three daughters, Mary
Besse of Morgan City, Louisiana,
Caroline Weber of Kansas City,
Missouri and Sandra Coy of
Sheldon, Missouri; two brothers,
Sylvester of Osage and Lawrence
Hemann of Osage.

Don D. Derr

Don D. Derr, age 69, of Osage,
died suddenly on Sunday, April
1, 2001, at his home in Osage.
Graveside services were held on
Thursday, April 5, at the
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason
City. Rev. Dennis Hanson
officiated. The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Don was born on
November 10, 1931 at Mason City,
the son of John Derr, Sr. and
Clara (Moser) Derr. On July 16,
1955, he was united in marriage
to Marietta Bunting. To this
union was born a son, Duane
Derr. Don served in the U.S.
Army during the Korean Conflict.
Most of his life he farmed near
Strawberry Point, Iowa. From
1984 to 1989 he was employed as
a heavy equipment operator. Don
had lived in Osage since July of
2000.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; and a
brother, Calvin Derr.
Those that
survive him include a son, Duane
Derr of Osage; step-son, Delwin
Bunting of Chilton, Wisconsin;
sister, Darlene Walke of East
Moline, Illinois; brother, John
Derr, Jr. of Hazelton, Iowa; and
four grandchildren.

Lena H. Bunge
April 3, 2001
Lena H. Bunge, age 97, of Osage,
died on Monday, April 2, 2001,
at the Osage Rehabilitation and
Health Care Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at
2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 7,
at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home in Osage, with visitation
from 6-8:00 p.m., on Friday
evening, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Osage
Cemetery.
Lena was born on
January 12, 1904, to John Helzer
and Mary Trout in Cairo,
Nebraska, the eighth of ten
children. She was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith
and attended school in Grand
Island, Nebraska.
Lena was employed
in retailing in Lincoln,
Nebraska, when she married Harry
Bunge on July 5, 1927 in
Delmont, South Dakota. The
couple moved to Auburn, Nebraska
in 1934 and worked together in a
hardware store they opened. They
moved back to Lincoln in 1954
and the couple retired in Osage
in 1967. They celebrated their
50th Wedding Anniversary in
1977.
Lena was in local
Lutheran church activities
wherever she lived. In Osage,
she enjoyed working in auxiliary
organizations for the Mitchell
County Memorial Hospital and the
Faith Lutheran Home.
Preceding her in death were her
husband, Harry in 1981; her
parents; and eight brothers and
sisters.
She is survived
by her son, Paul and wife,
Gloria recently retired to Ft.
Myers, Florida; sister, Frieda
of Merced, California; four
grandchildren, Nadine DeVoss of
Council Bluffs, Martin of Forest
City, Martha Zenor of Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida and John of
Waterloo; and nine
great-grandchildren.

Darrell “Shorty” Sletten, age
65, died on Monday, April 2,
2001, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April
7, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church. Rev. Dennis Hanson and
Rev. Roy Ott will officiate and
interment will be in the Osage
Cemetery, with Military Rites
performed by the Osage American
Legion Post 278. Visitation is
from 5-8:00 p.m., on Friday,
April 6, at the Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home in Osage and one
hour before the services at the
church. The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, is in
charge of the arrangements.
He was born on
December 1, 1935, at the family
home near Swaledale, Iowa, the
son of Henry and Ruby (Cassel)
Sletten. His family moved to
near Brownville, Iowa in 1941,
where he attended the Brownville
Country School and graduated
from the Little Cedar High
School in 1955. He served in the
United States Air Force as a
radar operator from 1956 to
1958.
Darrell was united in marriage
to Shirley Thompson on July 11,
1956, at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua. In December of 1958,
they moved to Brownville where
they farmed on the family farm.
In 1971 they moved to their
current home south of Osage. For
the past 30 years, Darrell was
an over the road semi-truck
driver.
He was a member of the Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church. He
enjoyed camping and visiting
with people.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; one
brother, Henry Sletten, Jr.; and
one sister, Lucille During.
Those that
survive him include his wife,
Shirley Sletten of Osage; one
son, Rick Sletten and wife,
Suzanne of Osage and their
children, Sarah, Mareah and
Rebekah; two daughters, Cindy
Niess and her husband, Vernon of
Osage and their daughter, Tina
who is attending Mercy College
in Cedar Rapids and son, Joseph
of Osage; Kathy Blake and her
husband, David of Osage and
their daughter, Stephanie who is
attending Wartburg College in
Waverly and son, Steven in
Osage; one brother, Lyle Sletten
and wife, Lee of Salt Lake City,
Utah; and several nieces and
nephews.

Gordon M. Allison

Gordon M. Allison, age 80, of
Mesa, Arizona, died on
Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the
Odyssey Hospice Center.
A memorial service was held on
Saturday, April 7, at the
Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Mesa.
Inurnment will be at a later
date in the Osage Cemetery.
Gordon was born
on January 27, 1921 in Osage,
Iowa, the son of Ira and Hazel
Allison. He graduated from the
OHS in 1928. He served in the
South Pacific in World War II.
Gordon married Beverly Billings
on May 31, 1942, at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua.
Gordon worked for
John Deere in Waterloo as a
draftsman. He then moved to
Osage, where he was a parts man
for the Venteicher Implement in
Osage. He became a State Farm
Insurance agent in Osage, then
later transferred to Mason City
as district manager.
They were
residents of Mesa, Arizona, for
the past 30 years where he was
employed by the Mesa Public
Schools.
Those that
survive him include his wife,
Beverly; two daughters, Debrah
and husband, Bob Adams of
Duluth, Minnesota and Dauri
Furgerson and husband, Bob of
Mesa, Arizona; three
grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Doris Kehoe of Sun
Lakes, Arizona.

Leonard Fox
April 11, 2001
Leonard R. Fox, age 85, of St.
Ansgar, died on Thursday, April
5, 2001, after a brief stay at
the Riceville Community Rest
Home.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, April 11, at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, St.
Ansgar. Rev. Edward Schmidt
officiated and burial was in the
St. Ansgar Cemetery, with
military rites conducted by the
Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358
of the American Legion, St.
Ansgar. The Schroeder and Sites
Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in
charge of the arrangements.
Leonard was born
on October 31, 1915 in
Meltonvale, Kansas, to Raymond
and Pearl (Ivey) Fox. He moved
to the St. Ansgar area with his
family as a small child. As a
young man he worked for various
area farmers. After joining the
U.S. Army in 1942, he
participated in training
maneuvers in various U.S.
locations.
On April 29, 1943, he married
Evelyn Rosenberg. Leonard was
then sent to serve in World War
II with the 90th Division. He
participated in a number of
campaigns including the Normandy
Invasion. He received a number
of decorations and citations,
including the Bronze Star for
meritorious duty. After being
honorably discharged from the
service in 1945, he and his wife
settled in the St. Ansgar area
where he began a 35-year career
with Cedar Valley Electric and
retired in 1980.
He enjoyed the
company of former co-workers,
friends and family until his
death. He will be greatly missed
by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; one
brother, Harold Fox; and one
sister, Blanche Griga.
Those that
survive him include his wife,
Evelyn of St. Ansgar; three
daughters, Sandra and husband,
Dale Lubbert of Riceville, Judy
Fox of Mason City and Kathryn
and husband, Marlin Bexley of
Sorrento, Florida; one son, Dean
and wife, Robyn of St. Charles,
Minnesota; one brother, Edgar

the VFW Post 1216. Interment

Richland, Minnesota.
He was born on
May 26, 1914 in Manchester,
Minnesota. He was a carpenter
and lived in Austin, Minnesota.

death were four brothers; one
sister; his parents; and one
son, Daniel.

Ardis of Austin, Minnesota;
daughters, Diane Christiansen of
Osage and Norma and husband,

Catharine was the daughter of
Curtis and Ella Corlett, former
residents of Osage. She
graduated from the Osage High
School in the Class of 1939.
Catharine was united in marriage
to Carroll Hobson of Eldora.
They were the parents of four
children, Brian, Mark and twins,
Maurice and Maurine; ten
grandchildren; and one sister,
Charlene Carlisle of Phoenix,
Arizona.

Elsie Martha Bertha Felton, age
92, of Osage, formerly of Nora
Springs, died on Saturday, April
7, 2001, at the Faith Lutheran
Home in Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, April 11, at the
Trinity Lutheran Church in
Osage. Rev. Christian F. Gugel
officiated. Interment was in the
Park Cemetery, Nora Springs. The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home,
Osage, was in charge of the
arrangements.
She was born on
April 29, 1908 in Grafton, the
daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth
(Schilling) Schmidt, the last of
ten children. Elsie was baptized
and confirmed at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, Grafton, by
Rev. Landeck. She attended rural
school in the Grafton area.
Elsie was united
in marriage to Harvey Felton on
October 2, 1938, at the Trinity
Lutheran Church, Osage, and to
this union two children were
born, Thomas and Marlene. Mr.
and Mrs. Felton farmed for many
years. They lived in Nora
Springs while her husband was
employed at Decker’s for 20
years. They retired in Osage in
1970. She entered the Faith
Lutheran Home on December 14,
1999.
Elsie kept busy quilting,
crocheting and tatting which she
made for her nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; her
husband, Harvey on June 13,
1983; a daughter in infancy;
four brothers; and five sisters.
Those that
survive her include one son, Tom
Felton of Lady Lake, Florida;
two grandsons, Bradley Felton
and wife, Brandi of Clarksville,
Texas and their children, Matt
and Emma and Jason Felton of
Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter,
Kim McDonald of Mason City and
her daughters, Tara and Hailee;
andmany nieces and nephews.

LeRoy E. Garrity

LeRoy Edward Garrity, age 92, of
Jefferson, Iowa, died on
Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the
Long Term Care Unit of the
Greene County Medical Center in
Jefferson.
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, April 10, at the St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church,
Jefferson. Father Donald Ries
officiated and burial was in the
St. Joseph Cemetery, Jefferson.
LeRoy was born on
June 19, 1908 in Letcher, South
Dakota to Thomas P. and Mary
Agnes Garrity, the oldest of
seven children. In 1912, he
moved with his family by train
to Franklin Township, Greene
County, and later the family
lived in the Bayard area. He
attended country school, then in
the 5th grade, entered the
Bayard Community School and
graduated from the Bayard High
School in 1927. In 1927 the
family again resided in Greene
County, first in Franklin
Township and then Greenbrier
Township. He farmed with his
parents and in 1952 purchased a
farm near Osage.
LeRoy and
Margaret Rowland Kelsey were
married on February 13, 1954.
They resided in Osage until both
retired in 1972, Margaret from
teaching and LeRoy from farming.
They moved to Jefferson and
built a home. In Jefferson,
LeRoy worked part-time at Dick
and Jim’s Hardware. He and
Margaret spend 13 winters in
Mesa, Arizona.
LeRoy was a
member of the St. Joseph Church,
a member of the KC’s since 1936
and also a member of the
Midwinter Club. Both he
and Margaret became residents of
the Greene County Medical Care
Center, Margaret in 1995 and
LeRoy in 1997. Margaret died on
February 26, 1999.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; his
wife; two brothers, Delos and
Francis “Pete”; and a sister,
Marie Koller.
Those that
survive him include two
step-sons, James Kelsey and
wife, Joanne of Urbandale and
Dick Kelsey and wife, Beverly of
Darien, Connecticut; four
step-grandsons, Thomas, Robert,
David and Bryan Kelsey; two
sisters, Madonna Kinsman of
Jefferson and Marguerite “Margo”
Garwood and her husband, Richard
of Urbandale; one brother,
Marion “Mike” Garrity and wife,

Katherine Twomey

Katherine W. Twomey, age 95, of
Rapid City, South Dakota,
formerly of Osage, died on
Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the
Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be held
today, Wednesday, April 18, at
1:30 p.m., at the Osage
Cemetery. The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, was in
charge of the arrangements.
She was born on
May 27, 1905 in Osage, to Henry
and Ethel Wilson. She attended
school in Osage and graduated
from Grinnell College, Grinnell,
Iowa in 1926. She taught several
years at Washington Elementary.
She was united in marriage to
Charles J. Twomey, owner of the
Osage newspaper known as the
Osage News on June 21, 1929 in
Osage.
In 1935, they
moved to Hot Springs, South
Dakota, where Charles operated
the Hot Springs Star from 1935
to 1947. Following the death of
her husband in 1987, Katherine
moved to the Westhills Village,
Rapid City in 1988.
A prolific
writer, Katherine wrote numerous
articles for various
publications. A number of her
stores and poems received awards
at the Central State Fair and
the South Dakota State Fair in
Rapid City, South Dakota. She
also wrote two books “A
Gardeners Year” published in
1972 and “Heartland Heritage”
published in 1992, which was her
memoirs of growing up in Osage.
She co-authored the book “Early
Hot Springs” published in 1983.
She was a member
of P.E.O., Traveler’s Club in
Hot Springs, National Society of
Daughters of the American
Revolution and the National
League of American Pen Women.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; and her
husband, Charles in 1987.
She is survived
by two sons, Charles L. Twomey
of Denver, Colorado and West W.
Twomey of Aurora, Colorado.

Rolland “Bub” Cecil Church

Rolland “Bub” Cecil Church, age
79, of Osage, died on Sunday,
April 8, 2001, at the Mitchell
County Regional Health Center in
Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, April 11, at the
First United Methodist Church in
Osage. Rev. Karen Nicholas
Duncan officiated and interment
was in the Osage Cemetery, with
Military Rites conducted by the
Osage American Legion Post 278.
The Champion-Bucheit Funeral
Home, Osage, was in charge of
the arrangements.
“Bub” was born on
December 20, 1921 north of
Osage, the youngest son of Ray
D. and Cecil (Hunter) Church. He
attended area elementary schools
and graduated from the Little
Cedar High School. He enlisted
in the Army Air Corps in 1944
and served several months in
overseas duty. He was honorably
discharged in 1946.
In 1947, he was united in
marriage to Bonnie Coonradt. Bub
and Bonnie started their farming
life on a small farm in Floyd
County. Over the next several
years, they continued farming in
many area communities. In 1951,
they moved to a farm just east
of Osage, where they remained
until moving to the Runge Farm
in 1980. After retiring in 1990,
Bub and Bonnie moved into Osage
where they remained until the
time of his death.
Bub was a member
of the Osage American Legion
Post 278. He will be remembered
for the pride he took in farming
and raising his family.
Preceding him in death were his
parents; his daughter, Sandy
Newton of Osage; one sister,
Vera Hickey; and one brother,
Charles Church.
Those that
survive him include his wife,
Bonnie of Osage; two daughters,
Lynda Adams of Long Beach,
California and Deb Fischer of
Miami, Florida; seven grandsons;
three granddaughters; and
several nieces and nephews.

from injuries sustained in a car
accident.

Berdene was born
on September 27, 1928 in Osage,
the daughter of Arthur and Golda
(Nelson) Williams. She was
raised in the Osage area.
Berdene was united in marriage
to Sterling Sewright on July 23,
1947, at the Little Brown Church
in Nashua. She was retired from
social work with the State of
Iowa.
Berdene was an active and
charter member of The Christian
& Missionary Alliance Church.
She also taught night school
classes for people seeking their
high school equivalency diploma.
She was a member of the
Cedarside Birthday Club.

Care Center.

Dorothy E. Hogan,
was born on August 17, 1920, to
Clifford and Elna (Fehling)
Stickney in Osage, Iowa. She
graduated from the Osage High
School. Dorothy was united in
marriage to Marlow Hogan in 1942
in Osage and they later
divorced.
She moved to San Diego in 1952
and worked for the California
Youth Authority office as the
Executive Secretary before
retiring. She moved to the
Mankato area in 1996. She
attended the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church in Mankato, Minnesota.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; a
brother; and brother-in-law.
Those that
survive her include one son,
Larry Hogan of Ketchikan,
Alaska; one sister, Hila Judas
of Mankato; and many nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Mary Renelda (Mrs. Ed)
Kratchmer, age 87, a resident of
the Riverside Chautauqua Guest
Home in Charles City for the
past five years, died on
Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the
Floyd County Memorial Hospital,
Charles City.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, April 23, at the Trinity
United Methodist church, Charles
City. Rev. Diane Mitchell,
associate pastor, officiated and
burial was in the Riverside
Cemetery, Charles City. The
family suggests memorials be
directed to the Heart to Home
Hospice, Charles City site.
Mary Renelda
Atkinson Kratchmer, was born on
May 12, 1913 at Clarksville, the
daughter of George and Stella
(Hickle) Atkinson. As a child
her family moved to Wessington
Springs, South Dakota, where
they lived until her father’s
death, at which time, they
returned to Clarksville. When
Mary’s mother died, George and
Grace Haney raised her as their
child. Mary graduated from the
Clarksville High School in 1931.
On July 9, 1934,
she was united in marriage to Ed
Kratchmer at Lena, Illinois.
Mary and Ed were active members
of the Central Methodist Church,
which after the 1968 tornado,
merged with the First Methodist
Church to become Trinity United
Methodist Church. She was a
former member of the Rebecca
Lodge.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; a
daughter, Elaine Hirschler; and

Melburn A. Smalley
April 24, 2001
Melburn A. Smalley, age 95, of
Osage, formerly of Orchard, died
on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at
the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, April 25, at the St.
Peter’s Catholic Church in New
Haven. Rev. Ray E. Atwood
officiated and interment was in
the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery,
New Haven. The Champion-Bucheit
Funeral Home, Osage, was in
charge of the arrangements.
He was born on
December 21, 1905, on the family
farm near Orchard, the son of
Chester and Mary (Johnson)
Smalley. Melburn was united in
marriage to Frances Kobliska on
November 14, 1933 in Charles
City. They farmed the Smalley
family farm near Orchard until
1988. In 1998 they moved to
Evergreen in Osage.
Preceding him in
death were his parents; three
sisters; and four brothers.
Those that
survive him include his wife,
Frances Smalley of Osage; three
daughters, Janet Penney and her
husband, Greg of Minneapolis,
Minnesota, Karen Fox and her
husband, Ivo of Orchard and
Joyce DuShane and her husband,
Neal of Fort Collins, Colorado;
one brother, Ralph Smalley of
Urbandale; six grandchildren,
Debora Miller and her husband,
Steven of Minneapolis,
Minnesota, Stephen Penney of
Minneapolis, Minnesota, John Fox
and his wife, Susan of
Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mike Fox
of Mason City, Chuck Fox and his
wife, Julynn of Bloomington,
Illinois and Dr. Dianna Fox of
Indianapolis, Indiana; three
great-grandchildren, Dustin and
Cody Fox of Bloomington,

Regina Theis
May 2, 2001
Regina Theis, age 97, of New
Haven, died on Wednesday, April
25, 2001, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center, Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Saturday, April 28, at the St.
Peter’s Catholic Church in New
Haven. Father Ray E. Atwood
officiated and interment was in
the St. Peter’s Catholic
Cemetery in New Haven. The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home,
Osage, was in charge of the
arrangements.
She was born on
May 17, 1903 in Elma, the
daughter of Otto and Rosina
(Peters) Younker. She received
her education at Catholic
Schools in Elma and continued
her education at Columbia
College in Dubuque. She returned
and taught several years in
rural schools in Howard County.
On June 4, 1924, she was united
in marriage to Francis Theis in
Elma. They farmed near New
Haven. She was a member of the
St. Peter’s Catholic Church and
the Ladies Altar Society.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; her
husband, Francis in 1987; three
brothers; one sister; two
grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Those that
survive her include three
daughters, Dolores Steffen and
husband, Jim of Riceville,
Catherine Marr of Sheboygan,
Wisconsin and Pauline Ovel and
her husband, Walt of New
Hampton; two sons, Dean Theis
and wife, Bonnie of New Haven
and Don Theis and wife, Patricia
of New Haven; 22 grandchildren;
and numerous
great-grandchildren.

Orlo H. Jensen
May 2, 2001
Orlo H. Jensen, age 88, of St.
Ansgar, died on Thursday, April
26, 2001, at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center, Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, April 30, at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, St.
Ansgar. Rev. Edward Schmidt
officiated and burial was in the
St. Ansgar Cemetery. The
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home
of St. Ansgar, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Orlo was born on
September 16, 1912 in Otranto
Township, Mitchell County, Iowa,
to Marian and Cecelia (Hansen)
Jensen. He attended school in
Carpenter, Iowa. He farmed in
Mitchell County north of St.
Ansgar all of his life. Orlo
married Della Perau on January
26, 1936 at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Orlo served on the REA Board,
School Board, Elevator Board,
Farmers Co-op Board and was
involved in the Immanuel
Lutheran Church.
Orlo was preceded
in death by his parents; one
grandson, Scott Hulshizer; and
two brothers, Harold Jensen and
Merle Jensen.
Orlo is survived
by his wife, Della of St.
Ansgar; two daughters, Marlene
Hulshizer of Northwood and
LaDonna Gratias of Waukee, Iowa;
five grandchiuldren, Debra Athey
of Northwood, Trisha Lang of
Osage, Douglas Hulshizer of
Zearling, Craig Gratias of
Urbandale and Jennifer Gratias
Wille of Ankeny; eleven
great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Clarence Jensen of
Hibbing, Minnesota and Art
Jensen of St. Ansgar; sisters,
Maurine Moore of St. Ansgar,
Edna Beuerman of Rochester,
Minnesota and Helene Johnson of
Mason City.

Wilma B. Snyder
May 2, 2001
Wilma B. Snyder, age 101, died
on Saturday, April 28, 2001, at
the Osage Rehabilitation Center,
Osage.
Funeral services were held on
Wednesday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m.,
at the Trinity Lutheran Church,
Osage. Rev. Christian F. Gugel
officiated and interment was in
the Osage Cemetery. The
Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home
was in charge of the
arrangements.
Wilma was born on
February 23, 1900 in Gladbrook,
Iowa, the daughter of August and
Anna (Arp) Ketelsen. She married
Earl Snyder on October 3, 1924
in Osage. They lived south of
Osage on Cedar Street. Earl died
in 1950.
Wilma always had a big garden
and worked as an egg candler at
the Osage Produce, retiring in
1965. In 1997 she and her
daughter, Irene Ogden bought a
house together. She broke her
hip and after getting out of the
hospital, went to the Osage
Rehabilitation and Health Care
Center in Osage for therapy.
Wilma liked it so much there she
chose to stay as a resident.
Preceding her in
death were her parents; her
husband, Earl in 1950; a sister;
two brothers; a grandson, Dick
Ogden; and a son-in-law, Leo
Ogden.
Those that
survive her include a daughter,
Irene Ogden of Osage; a sister,
Loraine Busch of California; two
grandchildren, Deb Pape of Osage
and Daniel Ogden and wife,
LaDonna of Osage; and numerous
great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.

Arliene Walk
May 9, 2001
Arliene Walk, 73, of Glenwood,
Iowa, formerly of Kensett,
entered into eternal rest on
Monday, April 30, 2001, at the
Jennie Edmundson Hospital,
Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on
Friday, May 4, at the Bolan
United Methodist Church, Bolan,
with Rev. Robert Cumings
officiating.
Arliene was born
on March 5, 1928 in Plymouth,
Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and
Esther Schmidt Borchardt. She
married Paul Franklin Walk on
September 28, 1952 in Bolan.
Arliene was a homemaker and
helped with the family farm.
She was an active
member of the Bolan United
Methodist Church and UMW. She
moved to Glenwood, two years ago
to be near her children due to
health. She attended the First
Baptist Church in Glenwood.
Preceding her in
death were her parents.
Those that
survive her include her husband,
Paul Walk of Kensett; children,
Janiece and husband, Kreg Kinzle
of Glenwood, Joyce and husband,
Robert Simanton of Niles,
Michigan, Judeen and husband,
Craig Keiran of Des Moines,
