Daniel Hansen
MASON CITY — Daniel J. Hansen, 72, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2006) at the I.O.O.F. Home.
Daniel Hansen was given the “gift of life” on Jan. 19, 1996, when he received a right lung transplant at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Daniel spent his new life bringing joy and happiness to others, especially his wife, Mary (Luick) of 18 years. He was devoted to making her happy, and he did to the end of his life.
Daniel did not know a stranger. After his first year, which was touch-and-go, he walked daily, except Sunday, picking up pop cans and talking to anyone he met. He mostly enjoyed his stop at HyVee, getting those free samples and visiting with employees. He made many friends there.
Daniel went to the IOOF in March of 2005, where he was loved by all. He was their “entertainment.” He could talk to them about anything, religion, politics, money handling and even about the Chicago Bears. He loved everyone there, especially the staff.
Daniel went to be with his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his devoted wife, Deloss and Darlene Baker, IOOF on-duty staff, the Hospice nurse and a special off-duty nurse, Julie.
Dan “The Can Man” will be missed by all who knew him, but we know he is no longer in pain.
We love you, Dan!
