DR. J. STEPHEN WESTLY


MASON CITY — Dr. J. Stephen Westly, 82, of 5 Woodbine Road, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Mercy Medical Center Foundation or Good Shepherd Health Center.

Dr. Westly was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Manly, the son of Gabriel S. and Beatrice (Cron) Westly. He graduated from Manly High School, the University of Iowa (bachelor of science) and the University of Iowa College of Medicine (M.D.) in 1944. He interned at Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio.

Dr. Westly served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48. Following his service from the Navy, he completed his residency in internal medicine from 1947 to 1950 in Des Moines.

He married Dorothy Kottemann in August of 1947 in Burlington, Iowa. From 1951 to 1952 he assisted his father in his medical practice in Manly, Iowa. In October of 1952 he joined Dr. L.W. Swanson and Dr. Harry Marinos in the practice of internal medicine in Mason City.

He was recalled to the Navy in 1953 during the Korean War, returning to Mason City in 1954. He eventually became the senior partner of Internal Medicine Associates, which in 1989 helped form the Mason City Clinic.

He retired from practice in 1990, having served the communities of North Iowa for 40 years. His uncle, Soren Westly, was a member of the staff of Mercy Hospital at its founding in 1915. His father, Gabriel Westly, and brother, Travis Westly, were also members of the staff for many years. His retirement from the staff of Mercy Hospital ended a 75 year period of service by Westly doctors.

Dr. Westly served as president of the staff of Mercy Hospital, president of the County Medical Society and president of American Society of Internal Medicine, Iowa Chapter.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American College of Physicians, American Guild of Organists and the Mason City Community Concert Board. The cornerstone of his life was his faith, family, friends, medicine and music.

Dr. Westly is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Dr. Stephen K. Westly and wife, Dr. Ann (Deering) Westly of Ashville, N.C.; daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) de Caetani and husband, Michael of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Erica Westly, Elizabeth Westly, John Westly, Katherine Carr and Andrew Carr; two brothers, Dr. Travis Westly of Mason City, and Malcolm Westly of Tampa, Fla.; brother-in-law, Dr. George Kottemann of Peoria, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dr. Westly is preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Beatrice Westly; mother and father-in-law, Freda and William Kottemann; sister-in-law, Edith Westly and brother-in-law, Dr. William Kottemann.

JOHN R. WEILAND


GREENE — Funeral services for John R. Weiland, 93, of 611 West Traer Street, Greene, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor Paul Uzel officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, in Greene. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.

John Ralph Weiland was born Oct. 14, 1910, the oldest son of Ralph and Grace (Menken) Weiland, and died Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

He received his education in Bennezette No. 7 rural school and began farming with his father at an early age.

On Jan. 10, 1934, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Allan, at the Associated Church Parsonage, in Allison. To this union were born two daughters. They made their home on a farm four miles north of Bristow where they lived for 54 years.

John was an active member of The First Reformed Church of Bristow, school director of Benn No. 7, and served on the Bristow Telephone Board, he was Farm Bureau director, and, the Pride Seed Corn dealer for more than 25 years. His greatest pride was his Angus Cattle, and he enjoyed furnishing the neighbor boys with 4-H calves.

Although he was a busy farmer, he always took the time to take his family on many day fishing trips, and picnics with neighbors and friends. John and Dorothy took many fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, and spent about 15 winters in Weslaco, Texas.

After moving to Greene in 1988, John and Dorothy joined the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. John enjoyed having coffee downtown, visiting with neighbors, sitting in his yard and later was care provider for his wife, Dorothy, until her death in 1998. He enjoyed taking friends for rides and coffee and learned to enjoy Chinese food with his friend, Esther Renning, of Waverly.

Because of failing health he entered the Homestead Assisted Living in Mason City, in December of 2002, where his daughter, Sharon, assisted with his daily needs. After a stroke in late June, he entered the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. He was always interested in family activities, and was a Cubs fan, watching many games on television.

John was proud to be a part of five living generations and will be sadly missed by his daughters, June (Dale) Johnson of Greene, and Sharon Agnitsch of Mason city; grandchildren, Ann (Dave) Marsh, Lana Clark, Nathan (Dana) Smith, Craig (Anne) Johnson, Rod Smith and Krista (Jason) Benson; great-grandchildren, Stacy Franken, Chris Franken, Daniel and Laura Marsh, Alissa Clark, Connor and Gage Smith, Carter and Sophia Benson, Alex, Ellen and Adam Johnson; and one great-great-grandson, Payton. He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Betty) Weiland, of Dumont and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, brother, Walter, grandson, Kevin Agnitsch, and former sons-in-law Bob Agnitsch and Gary Smith.

MASON CITY — Helen (Della) Elizabeth (Garcia) Hugi of 1523 North Adams died Thursday (Aug. 12, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City

Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Avenue with the Rev. Donald Simmonds officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Avenue. A Scriptural Wake and Rosary Service will be held at 7p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Michael Podhajsky of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Memorials may be directed to the Helen E. Hugi Memorial Fund.

Helen was born Jan. 1, 1923, at Lehigh Row in Mason City the second child to John and Jessie (Orozco) Garcia. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church and educated in the Mason City schools. At the age of fifteen she moved with her family to the Historic Powder Street Area.

On Nov. 27, 1942, at the age of 19, Helen married Nick J. Kantaris and to this union three sons were born. That marriage ended in 1966. On Dec. 15, 1967, Helen married Eugene (Geno) C. Hugi at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. After almost eighteen years of marriage, living in the B & O District, Geno died on Dec. 10, 1986.

Helen worked for 29 years at the Mason City Tent & Awning and then seven years at Risto until her retirement in 1994.

Sewing was always a passion that she truly enjoyed to share with her family and friends. In addition to the many things she made at home, Helen was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Quilters, making many quilts for charities with her friends. Almost all her quilts, knitted and crocheted crafts were given away by her to the delight of those who received them. She gave of herself unselfishly to everyone and will be deeply missed by all.

Among the family members who will cherish her memories are her sons, Nick J. Kantaris and the late Connie R. of Mason City, John M. Kantaris and wife, Dorothy A. of North Ft. Meyers, Fla., Tom P. JEANNETTE CASPERS


SWALEDALE — Jeannette Caspers, 71, of Swaledale, passed away Saturday (Aug. 14, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton with the Rev. Robert Hetrick presiding. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Swaledale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Retz-Grarup Funeral Home in Thornton. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Jeannette Louise (Ashland) Caspers was born Sept. 19, 1932, on a farm near Clear Lake, to Ole and Florence (Paulson) Ashland. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Jeannette graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1950 then worked at Ben Franklin in Clear Lake.

On Feb. 14, 1954, Jeannette was united in marriage with Dale Caspers. They farmed at Swaledale their entire married life. This year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Those who knew Jeannette will remember her for all the good things she did for her church, her family, her friends and all others whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Dale; children, Jon (Carol) Caspers, Swaledale, Mary Caspers, Kanawha, Bill (Deb) Caspers, Swaledale, and Lori Caspers, Mason City; grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Servantez, Joni, Billy, David, and Brian; great grandson, Drew Servantez; sister, Elaine (Jim) Olson, Garner; brother, Bob (Betty) Ashland, Sequim, Wash.; step-sisters, Madilyn Norton, and Marilyn (Linn) Laage; step-brother, Richard (Barbara) Benham; brother-in-law, Orville (Bernice) Caspers; many cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

CHARLES CITY — Mildred “Millie” Rhodes, 82, of St. Paul, Minn., and formerly of Charles City, Iowa, died on August 11, 2004, at the United Hospital, St. Paul Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Carl Ries, Pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Inurnment will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery.

GARNER — Leonard J. Rayhons, 82, of Garner died Sunday (Aug. 15, 2004) at his rural home.

His funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St. in Garner, with a combined Knights of Columbus and Catholic Workmans rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Scriptural remembrance service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Leonard John Rayhons, the son of John and Beatta (Wellik) Rayhons, was born Feb. 28, 1922 at Garner. He attended Garfield No. 5 country school and helped his parents on the family farm northwest of Garner.

On Nov. 16, 1943, he married Emily Marie Tlach at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They made their home across from his parents’ home where they farmed.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army as an automotive mechanic in the European Theatre.

Following his honorable discharge on Oct. 27, 1946, he returned home and continued to farm. Besides farming he also sold hybrid seed, did custom bailing and chopping and hauled feed and grain.

On May 8, 1978 his wife, Emily, passed away from cancer at the age of 52.

On Aug. 16, 1979, he married Alice (Rapp) Meints at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They lived on the home farm where Leonard farmed with his son, Marv.

Leonard enjoyed his family, visiting with people, playing cards, dancing and helping on the farm.

He especially enjoyed dressing up each Christmas as Santa Claus for lots of little children.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, Knights of Columbus 4th degree, St. Boniface Men’s Society, Catholic Workman Lodge, Garner Lions Club and was a lifetime member of the Garner VFW and American Legion.

Leonard was also a 4-H Leader, served on the ASC Committee and was a Trustee for Garfield Township.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Garner; two children, Marvin (Nancy) Rayhons of Garner and Jeanette (Allen) Upmeyer of Clinton; five grandchildren, Bonnie (Brian) Cataldo, Amy (Brian) Follmann, Cory (Jennifer) Upmeyer, Shane (Jennifer) Upmeyer and Darci (Jason) Reis; seven great-grandchildren, Sam, Ray and Reed Cataldo, Ethan and Abby Follmann, James and Joshua Upmeyer; three stepchildren, Roger Meints of San Diego, Calif., Dick (Sheryl) Meints of Meservey and Kathleen (Mike) Embertson of Mason City; two sisters, Rose Mae (Red) Baker, of Garner and Darlene Oldham of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, George (Betty) Tlach, of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

LAKE MILLS — Alfred Langesen, 57, of Beloit, Kan., and formerly of Lake Mills, died July 31, 2004, at Wichita, Kansas of a brain tumor.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Linn’s Funeral Homes, Alden Chapel, 201 Main St. with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will be immediately following the service.

ROBERT PAUL ‘BOB’ DIETRICH


MANLY — Robert Paul “Bob” Dietrich was born on May 15, 1942, on what is now known as the Evelyn Garnas Farm, in rural Hanlontown, to Leonard P. and the late Evelyn L. (Moretz) Dietrich.

Bob passed away sometime during the night of Aug. 5, 2004, while sleeping in the pick-up camper he called home at the age of 62 years, 2 months, and 22 days. The camper was parked behind the garage where he worked on Airport Road in Hot Springs, Ark.

He was baptized at the old Lutheran Church in Manly, on July 19, 1942, and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on May 27, 1956.

Bob went to grade school at the rural country school called Danville No. 5 in Hanlontown. Bob’s father had attended the same school during his last years of grade school.

Bob’s first three years of high school were at Hanlontown High, and had his final year of high school in Manly after the consolidation of Hanlontown and Manly, graduating from North Central High School in 1960.

After graduation, he worked for various farmers in the area and gas stations where he realized he loved fixing cars. He put himself through an Omaha, Neb., trade school and graduated as a mechanic.

He met and married the late Muriel (Gae) McAllister Dietrich. Bob and Gae had two daughters.

They lived for a time in Lake Mills where he owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station and repair shop and was known as one of the best mechanics in the area.

The family lived in several places from Chicago to Colorado.

After a divorce, he later met and married Vickie (Duregger-Lindsay) Dietrich and they had five children: Aaron, Rebecca, Timothy, Amy, and Dena.

After a divorce when Dena was quite small, Bob moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where he worked for or leased various mechanic shops/filling stations.

In 1986 or 1987, he began working with Mike (Doc) Nooner at “Doc’s Tire Shop” on Airport Road in Hot Springs, Ark.

In 1989, he became very ill and was hospitalized in Little Rock, Ark., for 79 days. Bob could only return to work for three to four hours a day.

After applying for disability and recently getting his first check, he began to dream of returning to Iowa and getting to know his 17 grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his father, Leonard Dietrich; children, Paula (Nathan) Hull, of Urbandale, and Pattie (Todd) Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Lake Mills; Aaron Dietrich of Dougherty, Becky (Kevin) Lewerke, of Mason City, Tim (Jennifer) Dietrich, of Waterloo, Amy (Christopher) Titus of Marble Rock, and Dena (Victor) Rolon, of Dows; grandchildren, Kathryn, Abigail, Emily, Allison, Andrew, Katlyn, Trey, Lincoln, Grant, Hailey, Christopher, Jacob, Kyle, Nicholas, Victoria, Gabriel, and Tomas; and ex-wife, Vickie Dietrich, of Mason City.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Following the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Leonard Dietrich farm in rural Manly.

MASON CITY — Marne Nelson-Rivedal, formerly of Mason City, will be interred at 11 a.m. on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

She died May 31, 2004, in Richmond, Ky.

MASON CITY — Richard Sumner will be interred at 11 a.m. Friday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

He died Sept. 22, 2003, in Richmond, Ky.

ERVIN E. STANSBERY


NEW HAMPTON — Ervin E. Stansbery, 84, of New Hampton, died Friday (Aug. 13, 2004) at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in New Hampton, with Pastor Jeff Scherer officiating. Interment will be in New Hampton Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Hampton American Legion and VFW.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

Ervin E. Stansbery was born July 30, 1920, at Mason City, the son of Ulysses and Anna (Roehrich) Stansbery. The family moved to New Hampton area when he was two years old.

Ervin attended rural schools and as a teenager worked as a farm hand.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and served during World War II in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals.

After his discharge, he worked on the railroad for a year before going to the Oliver Corporation in Charles City.

Ervin was married to Louise Chesling, the foster daughter of Burton and Evelyn Rodberg, on Oct. 1, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hampton.

Following his marriage he worked at the Plainfield Cheese Factory for a year then was employed at Hassman Elevator and Trucking, Zip’s Auto Body and for the last 10 years of his employment he was school custodian.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was custodian for many years and was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ervin is survived by his wife, Louise; two sons, Roger, of New Hampton, and Duane (Scarlet) of Mason City; a daughter, Karen (Frank) Petering, of Columbia, Mo.; three grandchildren, Terry (Lisa) Petering, of Owensville, Mo., Debra Petering, of Sedelia, Mo., and Nicole(Kory) Meleney, of Mason City; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Meleney, of Mason City; and a step-great-granddaughter, Jenny Wedemier, of Owensville, Mo.; a brother, Lawrence (Evelyn) Stansbery, of Waterloo; three sisters, Sylvia Nystel, Rose Nystel and Orella Schwickerath, all of New Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Edna Maklenburg.

MASON CITY — Conrad C. Peck, 78, of 15651 Nettle Ave., died Sunday (Aug. 15, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Open Bible Church, 609 S. Eighth St. in Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and continue one hour before services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Conrad C. Peck Memorial Fund.

Conrad was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Britt, Iowa the son of Ellsworth and Gayle (Raw) Peck.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Conrad married Ruthyvonne Lunning on Nov. 13, 1947, in Mason City.

He worked at Northwestern States Portland Cement Company for many years.

In addition to his work at the cement company, Conrad also farmed Southwest of Mason City for many years.

He was a member of the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake.

Conrad is survived by his wife, Ruthyvonne, of Mason City; three sons, Michael C. Peck, of Mason City, Thomas A. Peck, of Mason City, and Victor G. Peck and wife, Sandy J., of Mason City; granddaughter, Amy L. Peck of Mason City; sister, Betty Corbett of Chicago, IIl.; brother, Douglas Peck and wife,Jean, of Dubuque,; and several nieces and nephews.

Conrad is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and William.

GRAFTON — Leona E. (Schulz) Bartz, 88, died on Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson and Associate in Ministry Irmgard Ellingson, officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Leona E. Schulz was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Faribault (Rice County), Minn., the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Von Rath) Schulz. Leona was the second youngest of 12 siblings.

She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault, and continued to have strong ties to her home church.

Leona was joined in marriage to Harold Bartz on June 26, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn. To this union two sons were born, Dennis and Curtis. She and her husband farmed in the Grafton area for many years.

Harold passed away in August of 1983. Leona moved from her farm home to Grafton in 1983 and lived there until November of 2003, when she became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Leona had a lifetime gift for making crafts, painting, ceramics, making dolls and geneology.

She enjoyed being with people, playing cards and visiting.

Her love for her family and friends were evident by her sharing her gifts and abilities.

Her strong faith and worship at Emmanuel in Grafton helped her to cope with numerous tragedies and illnesses throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, George Hardwick; grandson, David Hardwick; five brothers;and six sisters.

Leona is survived by three sons, Fred (Sylvia) Hardwick of Beela Vista, Ark., Dennis (Barb) Bartz of Grafton, and Curtis (Caren) Bartz, of Grafton; eight grandchildren, Deanna Blaha, Jason Hardwick, Lora Rustad, Theresa Sietsema, Brian Bartz, Andrew Bartz, Courtney Bartz and Caylee Bartz; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

DONALD ROY PETERSON


CEDAR FALLS — Donald Roy Peterson was born May 5, 1937, at Waverly, the son of Albert and Doris M. (Simerson) Peterson.

He married Gloria Lee White on Feb. 9, 1957, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on June 10, 1985.

Donald worked for the Cedar Falls Parks Department for 15 years, semi-retiring in 2004.

He died from skin cancer on Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, at 67 years of age.

Donald is survived by his two sons, Don (Dianna) Peterson of Waterloo and Dale (Nikki) Peterson of Katy, Texas; his three daughters, Dawn (Carl) Scott of Tripoli, Victoria (Tom) Erdman of Clear Lake, and Lynn Peterson of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert “Pete” Peterson Jr. of Cedar Falls, Rich (Marci) Peterson of Cedar Falls and Curtis (Janet) Peterson of Frankfort, Ind.; two sisters, Donna (Bob) White of Independence, and Mary Havlik of Frankfort, Ind.; and four uncles, Forrest Simerson of Hartford, Bob Simerson of Des Moines, Roger Simerson of Arizona and Harold Simerson of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; a brother, John Peterson, and a sister, Marlys Mathes,

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and further visitation one hour prior to services on Friday.

His cremated remains will be scattered in Oregon at a later date.

GERTRUDE L. WISMAN


MASON CITY — Gertrude L. Wisman, 87, of 1619 S. Carolina Ave., died Monday (Aug. 16, 2004) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave. with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and continue at the church one hour before the service.

ROBERT E. ‘BOB’ MEYER


OSAGE — Robert E. (Bob) Meyer, 79, of Osage died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 2004) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center-Hospice Unit in Osage.

Robert was born Dec. 8, 1924, in New Haven, the son of Peter and Catherine (Green) Meyer.

He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven. Bob farmed south of New Haven.

On Nov. 29, 1947, he was united in marriage to Madelyn Peterson in Austin, Minn. Upon leaving the farm he went to work for Ralston Purina at several locations, through 1982.

In 1982, Bob worked for Harvest Land Co-Op in Morgan, Minn., until he retired and moved shortly after to Osage, working part time doing crop adjusting.

Bob attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He could be found most mornings enjoying coffee and conversation with friends at Hardee’s.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, New Haven.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:45 p.m.

Bob is survived by his wife, Madelyn Meyer, of Osage; son, Don Meyer and wife, Kathy, of Vinton; son, Gary Meyer and wife, Michelle, of Perry; daughter, Diane Nekvinda of Brandon, S.D.; daughter, Sue Whiton and husband, Scott, of Perry; daughter, Kay Drake and husband, Mike, of Lincoln, Neb.; son, Mark Meyer and wife, Tammy, of Morgan, Minn.; son, Dennis Meyer and wife, Rhonda, of Morgan, Minn.; son, Dale Meyer, of Walker; and son, Bobby Meyer, of Perry.
