RICHARD ‘DICK’ ALLEN COOPER

NORA SPRINGS — Richard “Dick” Allen Cooper, 60, of rural Nora Springs, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Dick had been diagnosed with stomach cancer on Sept. 5, 2003.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.

Richard Allen “Dick” Cooper was born in Mason City, on Aug. 24, 1943, the son of Emery and Velma (Bartusek) Cooper of rural Manly.

He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.

Dick attended rural school near Manly and Plymouth and graduated from North Central High School in Manly in 1961.

On March 4, 1962, he married Janice Tietz in the Bethel United Methodist Church at Manly. They were blessed with two children, Rick and Theresa.

Dick worked in construction, helping to build the large silos at the Manly Elevator. He also worked at the sugar beet plant in Mason City.

Following his marriage, he worked for Christiansen Farms in Osage.

In 1963, he began working for Massey-Ferguson Company and worked there for eight years.

On his birthday in 1970, he began driving truck for Crouse Cartage Company and drove professionally for them for 30 years. Over the years he received many safe driving awards and recognition for driving one million and two million miles. He retired from Crouse Cartage in 2000.

Following his retirement he enjoyed helping out Tom on his farm.

For many years Dick enjoyed camping with his family and friends and hunting and fishing with his friend Mike. Dick was a collector of toy semi-trucks and old toys. He enjoyed attending auctions bringing home many “treasures”.

He enjoyed tending to his large yard and took pride in making it look like a park.

Dick and Janice spent many wonderful vacations with family and friends traveling to Hawaii, Mexico, cruising to the Bahamas and Caribbean, and visiting family and friends around the country.

Dick was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, Teamsters Union Local 828 for 30 years, and the Moose Lodge.

The most important part of Dick’s life was his family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all their accomplishments.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Janice Cooper, of rural Nora Springs; son, Rick and wife Cindy of Mason City; daughter, Theresa and husband Richard (Dick) Trimble of Forest City; grandchildren, Justin and Stephanie Cooper and Tyler and Tricia Trimble.

Also left to cherish his memory are a brother, Wayne (Donna) Cooper of Iowa Falls; seven sisters, Bonnie (Marcus) Doebel of Clear Lake, Shirley Martin of North Little Rock, Ark., Maxine DeVries of Iowa Falls, Jean (George) Dreier of Williams, Gloria (John) Mathis of Jacksonville, Ark., Joyce (Chuck) Shropshire of Crystal Lake, and Doris (Don) McCourt of Shellsburg; sisters-in-law, Darlene Weitzel of Mason City, Rose (Dale) Lamprecht of Charles City, Laura (Robert) Roffman of Postville, and Linda (Leland) Lutzke of Big Lake, Minn.; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many special friends.

Waiting for him in Heaven are his parents; sister, Mary; brothers, Robert, Roger, and Ronnie; and father and mother-in-law, Richard and Edna Tietz.

CHESTER — Craig Ensz, 16, of Chester, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) from a motor vehicle accident near McIntire.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite Church in McIntire. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery in rural McIntire.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

HERBERT FERDINAND FELDT

ST. ANSGAR — Herbert Ferdinand Feldt, 87, of St. Ansgar died on Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, Mitchell County, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Herbert Ferdinand Feldt, son of Gustave and Alma (Schmidt) Feldt was born Oct. 20, 1915, on a farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa.

He was baptized Nov. 21, 1915, by the Rev. Reinecke. His sponsors were Mrs. George Glassel, Ferdinand Feldt, and Wilhelm Schmidt.

He and his sister Helen were confirmed together at St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1932 and he was a lifelong member of St. John’s.

He attended school in Carpenter. He lived and worked on the parental farm until 1965, and then worked for several area farmers while living in St. Ansgar.

In 1970, he moved to Carpenter where he lived until 1997 when he moved to St. Ansgar.

He enjoyed fishing with friends up north, helping at the Senior Saints Center and playing cards.

He moved to Worth Living in June of 2001, the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in October of 2001, and into the Good Samaritan Center in December of 2002.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Peterson; brother Wilmer (Barney); and brothers-in-law, Orvie Severson and Leland Ellingson.

He is survived by sisters, Agnes Severson of St. Ansgar, Irene Thompson and husband Charles of Austin, Minn.; a brother, Arnold and wife Joan of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Delores Feldt of St. Ansgar; brother-in-law Fred Peterson of Albert Lea, Minn.; 18 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Senior Saints Center of St. Ansgar.

NEW HAMPTON —Rachel Fisher, 22, of rural New Hampton, died Saturday (Oct. 18, 2003) at her home as the result of a homicide.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

INA M. GAMBELL

FOREST CITY — Ina M. Gambell, 85, of Forest City, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at her home in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church in Forest City with the Rev. Dave Wellendorf officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City.

Ina Mae Gambell was born on Feb. 4, 1918, in Hancock County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lorna (Ritter) Smith. She attended Garner Public School through the eighth grade and attended Forest City High School, graduating in 1936.

She took a year of business courses at Waldorf College. Ina taught country school for two years in Garfield Township.

In 1939 she was married to Raymond Gambell. To this union one daughter, Bernice, was born.

Ina was a 4-H Leader for four years, worked in the bowling pin factory for three years and did restaurant work for 27 years.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and their families.

She also loved to crochet, knit and work outside in her flower and vegetable gardens.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Forest City.

She is survived by her daughter, Bernice Haugen, and four grandchildren: Steven Haugen, Scott Haugen and his wife Deanna, John Haugen and Jeff Haugen and his wife Jill. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Molly Perkins, Michael Haugen, Megan Haugen, Jacob Haugen and Jenna Haugen.

Ina Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; great-granddaughter, Amanda Haugen; and a son-in-law, Steve Haugen Sr.

DALE ROBERT ‘SKIP’ GEIDNER

CLEAR LAKE — Dale Robert “Skip” Geidner, 45, of 400 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa West Campus in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life service will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Open Bible Church in Clear Lake, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating.

Visitation with friends will begin one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Following the service, a dinner will be served in Fellowship Hall.

Skip wishes memorials be given to the Open Bible Church.

Skip was born Feb. 17, 1958, in Hinsdale, Ill., the son of Clarence and Marybell (Bingman) Geidner.

He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1976 and the Vocational School in Faribault, Minn. with a two-year degree.

He worked for Hanson’s Marine as a mechanic. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1991, he started working for NAPA.

He taught snowmobile classes and was past president of North Iowa Snowmobile Club.

He was a member of Open Bible Church, elder of the church and men’s group.

He enjoyed baking bread for visiting families of the church and ‘’Families of the Week.’’

After giving his life to Jesus Christ eight years ago, it was his faith in Jesus that sustained him thru his battles with M.S.

He is survived by many friends and family.

BELMOND — Cecilia A. McLaughlin Hanson, 67, of Lacey, Wash., formerly Belmond and Humboldt, died Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2003) at Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia, Wash.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St Francis Cemetery near Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, with a 6:30 p.m. parish rosary and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

MASON CITY — Clara L. Jury, 90, of Mason City, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fullerton Funeral Home Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

DARRELL L. SOWERS

CRESCO — Darrell L. Sowers, 72, of Cresco, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003) at his home in Cresco.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Cresco, with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating.

Darrell Lee Sowers was born on Jan. 3, 1931, near Sumner, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Monroe and Marjorie Cecelia (Treloar) Sowers. He attended country school unti the 8th grade, and was a graduate of Sumner High School.

Darrell received his biology and physical education degrees from Wartburg College in Waverly.

He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 7, 1953, and served until June 25, 1955,during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of technical sergeant.

Darrell was united in marriage to Janice Knoll on June 1, 1957, at Kanawha.

Darrell taught school at the Rockwell-Swaledale School for 13 years.

Before coming to Cresco, he received his master’s degree in chemistry.

He taught a science curriculum at Crestwood High School until his retirement in 1990. He also taught a summer science program at Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar.

Darrell was an enthusiastic teacher, an avid sports fan, and a stamp collector.

After retirement, he continued to present programs to students that had a learning message regarding drugs and chemicals.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; four children, Arlene Wright of Waterloo, Dee and her husband, Rick Sovereign, of Cresco, Brian of Marshalltown, and Kay and her husband, Larry Core, of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Wright, Casi, Brad, and Bethany Sovereign, Boston Nesteby, Whitney, Austin, and Joshua Sowers; two brothers, Doug (Marian) Sowers, of Fredericksburg, and Don (Marlys) Sowers, of Postville; and two sisters, Margaret (Willie) Howard, of Sumner, and Mernie (Ray) Reasland, of Webster City.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Dylan Sowers; and a son-in-law, Bob Wright.

THE REV. STEVEN V. WAUGHTAL

MASON CITY — The Rev. Steven V. Waughtal, 49, of 35 Sunny Circle, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with visitation two hours before services at the church. The Rev. Joel Dahlen will officiate.

Interment will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls, Wis.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Good Shepherd Health Center, 329 Second St. N.E.

The Rev. Waughtal was born March 12, 1954, in LaCrosse, Wis., the son of Victor and Phyllis (Parlow) Waughtal. He graduated from Luther College, Wartburg Theology Seminary and was a certified chaplain of A.P.C.

The Rev. Waughtal served congregations at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Crane Creek in Tripoli and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.

In August of 2000, he became chaplain at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

The Rev. Waughtal was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Joy M. Waughtal of Marion; brother, Patrick McCormick of Black River Falls, Wis.; aunts, Mary Waughtal of Black River Falls, Wis., Arlyce Bahnub and husband Bill of Black River Falls, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

FOREST CITY — Jerome P. Ryerson, 56, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) at his home east of Forest City.

His funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with the Rev. Edward Bard officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

LEONE FOLSOM MORRISON

OSAGE — Leone Folsom Morrison, 84, of Osage, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Leone was born Nov. 19, 1918, at Postville, Iowa, in Allamakee County, the daughter of Alonzo and Hazel (Harris) Folsom. She attended schools in Allamakee County until 1934 when she moved with her parents to Osage. She graduated from Orchard High School in 1936 and took postgraduate work in Osage school. She taught country school in Mitchell County, was active in extension work in the county and was also a 4-H leader. She was baptized at Community Presbyterian Church at Postville. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage for 69 years. Leone was active in the women’s work of the church and held many offices of the church. She taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was also a member of Eastern Star since 1949 and worked with the Rainbow Girls for several years. She was a member of Grand Cross of Colors of Rainbow and of WaTanYe Service Club.

Leone married Max Morrison on Oct. 21, 1937, in Mason City, and they were the parents of four children; Larry, Murray (deceased), Judenne, and Richard. They farmed for forty years and retired in Osage in 1979. Some of her many interests were enjoying her family, flower gardens, traveling, fishing, and having a cup of coffee with friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, and one hour before services at the church

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the United Church of Christ of Osage or Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar.

Leone is survived by her husband, Max Morrison; two sons, Larry and his wife, Cherie, of Edmond, Okla.; Richard and his wife, DiDi, of Oakland, Minn.; one daughter, Judenne Kocer of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Murray Morrison; a grandson, David Todd Morrison; two sisters, Mabel Simpson of Minneapolis, Minn. and Grace Havlicek of Monona, Minn.

MERVIN GRAY

TITONKA — Mervin Gray, 81, of Titonka, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at the Titonka Care Center.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka with the Rev. Dennis Redeker officiating. Burial will be in the Buffalo Township Cemetery, Titonka.

Visitation will be at 12:30 p.m. until time of service Friday.

MARK D. DAMISCH

TOLEDO — A funeral liturgy will be celebrated for Mark Daniel Damisch at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama with Reverend Keith Birch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama, with military honors being provided by the Reinig-Fredrich American Legion Post #72, of Toledo.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hand Funeral Home in Tama, where the family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a vigil service held at 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the Hand Funeral Home, Tama. A memorial service will be held at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 8.

A memorial fund is being established.

Mark D. Damisch, 37, of Arlington, Va., formerly of Garner, entered into eternal rest Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2003, as a result of fatal injuries he sustained in a plane accident near Queen Anne, Maryland.

He had been flying aerobatic maneuvers in preparation for an upcoming International Aerobatic Club competition.

Mark Daniel Damisch was born on April 30, 1966, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Later that same year his family moved to the Cedar Rapids area. In 1976, his family moved to Garner where Mark graduated from the Garner-Hayfield High School in 1984 and later from the United States Naval Academy in 1988. He went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy as a pilot and flight instructor until 1996. He then worked as a computer consultant in Arlington, Va. He also served as a pilot in the United States Navy Reserve until 1999, at which time he left as a Lieutenant Commander.

At the time of his death, Mark was employed as a computer consultant at MergeGlobal in Arlington.

Mark had a passion for aerobatic flying. He recently started skydiving as a hobby. He adored his dog, Banja.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Damisch Jr.; his grandfathers, Charles Damisch Sr. and BerDell DuToit; and a cousin, Martin Sebesta.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Damisch of Toledo, a brother, Terry Damisch and his wife, Wendy, of Victor, Iowa; a brother, Ron Damisch and his wife, Gwen, of Marengo, Iowa; a sister, Brenda Damisch of Urbandale; a brother, Kevin Damisch of Cedar Rapids; his grandmothers, Elsie Damisch of Cedar Rapids and Elsie DuToit of Toledo; and seven nieces and nephews.

IOWA FALLS — Daryl N. Altizer, 73, of Iowa Falls passed away Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.

A private funeral service will be held. Burial will be at the Berlin Cemetery, Jackson Township, Hardin County, Iowa.

CHARLES CITY — Marie Katherine Kay, 88, formerly of 2521 Timber Ave., Charles City, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at the Ninth St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

LUISE VOSS HANSON

FOREST CITY — Forest City resident and Co-Founder of Winnebago Industries, Luise V. Hanson, 90, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 2003) at Water’s Edge Extended Care in Palm City, Fla.

Luise V. Hanson was born Luise Adelheid Voss on June 7, 1913, in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of the Rev. C.E.G. and Marie Knospe Voss.

Baptized in her father’s church in Parkersberg, she was later confirmed in Sheffield. Luise grew up in Sheffield, attended country school and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1930 at the age of 16.

Following high school graduation, Luise moved to Forest City where she met her future husband, John K. The couple married in the home of Mr. Hanson’s parents, K.J. and Jennie Hanson, on Nov. 14, 1935. From 1935 to 1962, she was an active partner with her husband in the Hanson Furniture Store and Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. Hanson would spend 60 years not only as spouses, but as business partners.

Mrs. Hanson was an integral part of the founding of Winnebago Industries in 1959. Her career with Winnebago included Interior Designer, was elected Director and Treasurer in 1965, was elected Director and Vice-President in 1967, was elected Director in 1968, and named Director Emeritus 1981. Mrs. Hanson also served on the Board of Directors of Manufacturer’s Bank and Trust in Forest City.

A lifelong learner, Mrs. Hanson was a staunch supporter of education, She was the first woman elected to the Forest City School Board, serving from 1963 to 1966 and was named to the Forest City Education Hall of Fame in 1987.

As a member of the Waldorf College Board of Regents from 1981 to 1999, she chaired the Advancement Committee and was a member of the Executive Committee. In recognition of her service to the college, Waldorf conferred on her the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in 1995.

Mrs. Hanson personally supported many young people in their educational endeavors, including her partnership with the Neal Davis AFS Chapter in Forest City and the Waldorf College Lutheran Leader’s Program.

Additionally, her public service included the Iowa Children’s Home Board, the Handicap Village Board and the Riverside Bible Camp Board.

Mrs. Hanson’s deep concern for the disadvantaged, for children, and for the people of North Iowa will continue to live on through the John K. and Luise V. Hanson Foundation, established by her and her husband. It was her wish that the family foundation, in addition to the Winnebago Foundation, would continue to make a difference in the lives of people in the region for years to come.

Along with her warm generosity and kindness, Mrs. Hanson will be remembered for her love of Christ and His church. She was an active member of Forest City’s Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1930, serving as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, Luther League advisor and Circle Chairwoman. She was a known throughout the community for her hospitality.

Since her husband’s death in 1996, Mrs. Hanson has resided near her children, most recently in Palm City, Fla.

Mrs. Hanson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 10 siblings, Ida Koschade, Alena (Alene) Voss, Paula Baker, Ludhilde (Lulu) Hanneman, Frida Voss, Harmina (Min) Jones, Hanna Bolk, Reinhard Voss, Maria (Marie) Ayers, and Dorothea (Dorothy) Peterson. Four sisters-in-law preceded her in death: Mildred Sager, Enid Robinson, Ruth Stougaard, and Margaret Wright.

She is survived by her children, Mary Jo Boman (Gerald) of Palm City, Fla., John V Hanson (Carolyn) of Stuart, Fla. and Paul D, Hanson of Marco Island, Fla.; four grandchildren, Janet Coe (Robert) of Mukilteo, Wash., Greg Boman (Becky) of Castle Rock, Colo., John J. Hanson, of Coral Gables, Fla. and Steve Neiman; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jean Nelson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Barbara Bulman, of Forest City.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hanson will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Inurnment will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

CLARA L. JURY

MASON CITY — Clara L. Jury, 90, formerly of 539 17th St. S.E., died Sunday evening (Oct. 19, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, where she had been a resident for nearly four years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Fullerton Funeral Home Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

Clara LaVonne Jury was born Aug. 26, 1913, in Dows. She was the only child born to Harrison E. and Jennie M. (Rosenthal) Satterlee.

Clara excelled in her academics and was a member of the basketball team while in high school. She graduated from Dows High School in 1931.

Clara became a purchasing agent for Century Engineering in Cedar Rapids during World War II.

On June 2, 1934, Clara was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, John H. “Jack” Jury. She was employed for several years at the Farmer’s State Bank in Dows as a cashier.

Clara became the bookkeeper for her husband when the two of them purchased their own business, Jury Garage in Rockford, where they specialized in servicing Ford automobiles. They sold the business in 1966.

They lived for a short time in Arkansas and Oklahoma, eventually moving to a lake home in Clear Lake.

Clara and Jack treasured their time together. They favored being outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting in Canada and Minnesota. Some of Clara’s favorite leisure activities include her love for reading, especially “Reader’s Digests”, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and listening to big band and polka music. Her family claim her to have been a very private and organized lady.

Clara is survived by four cousins, Glenavon Loosemore of Spokane, Wash., Norma Brunner of Prairie City, Wayne Miller of Newton, and Wendell Miller of Runnells.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in January of 1985; and her parents, Harrison and Jennie.

MASON CITY - Dale R. Groth, 73, of 3435 Brandywine Road, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Donald Simmonds officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Dale was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Mason City, the son of Oscar and Alice (Gullard) Groth. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1948 then served in the U.S. Army dur-ing the Korean Conflict.

Dale married Nancy Wilson on Sept. 12, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Dale was self-employed as a floor-covering contractor for many years. Following retirement he worked part-time for Diamond Vogel.

Dale was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, North Iowa Classic Car Club and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

Dale is survived by a daughter, Lori Tierney and husband, Tom, of Minnetonka, Minn.; son, Rick Groth and wife, Sharon, of Mason City; grandchildren, Aron, Christ-opher, Megan and Kelsie; brothers, Raymond Groth and wife, Jean, of Mason City, Paul Groth and wife, Mary, of Ellendale, Minn.; brother-in-law, Melvin Wilson Jr. of Mason City; and nieces and nephews.

Ellen was born March 17, 1962, to Delano and Harriet (Jones) Winter in LeMars, Iowa.

She moved to Clear Lake when she was in the first grade. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980 where she was both a cheerleader and a member of the marching band.

She attended Wartburg College for one year and re-ceived her nursing degree from NIACC in 1983.

She worked as a hospital nurse, a clinic nurse, and a school nurse in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Iowa.

Ellen married Dan Morehouse on May 30, 1983, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

To this union were born three children, Sean, Megan, and Erin.

She was active in several book clubs, was on the Altar Care committee at her church and volunteered at Washington School in Marshfield.

Ellen is lovingly survived by her husband, Dan; three children, Sean of Cedar Rapids, Megan and Erin both at home; her grandmother, Iris Ong, of Clear Lake; four sisters, Susan (Dave) Latta, of Plymouth, Minn.; Karen (Craig) Shayer, of Indianola, Iowa, Lisa (Jeff) Anderson, of Ames Iowa, and Lori (Kirk) Muhlenbruck, of Northfield, Minn. She is further survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

FOREST CITY - Jerome P. Ryerson, 56, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) at his home east of Forest City.

His funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with the Rev. Edward Bard officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Jerome Paul Ryerson, the son of Herbert and Agnes Evelyn (Bakke) Ryerson, was born July 29, 1947, in Forest City. He attended school at Hayfield and graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1966.

On Aug. 25, 1968, he married Francine Bartik at the Congregational Church in Britt. They lived in rural Forest City.

Jerome was employed at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, 20 years at Fieldstone Cabinetry in Northwood and, since 1999, at Woodharbor Molding and Millworks in Mason City. He was unable to work since April due to cancer.

He enjoyed his family, wood-working and Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Jerome is survived by his wife, Francine, of Forest City; two sons, Jay Ryerson and his wife, Sara, and their two children, Nicholas and Emily, all of Forest City; and Aaron Ryerson of Forest City; brothers and sisters, Tom Ryerson and wife, Marge, of West St. Paul, Minn., Donna Lackore and husband, Gene, of Garner, Ray Ryerson of Clear Lake, Mary Holder and husband, Cliff, of Laughlin, Nev., Doug Ryerson of Anchorage, Alaska, Mike Ryerson and wife, Tinker, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jon Ryerson and wife, Diane, of Lone Tree; a sister-in-law, Mary Ryerson of Scarville; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Fern Bartik of Britt; and a sister-in-law, Janis Sharp and husband, Larry, of West Des Moines.

CEDAR RAPIDS - Monsignor Bernard G. Collins, 91, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday (Oct. 16, 2003) in Mesa, Ariz.

Monsignor Collins was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna and Mae; two brothers, Father James Collins and Monsignor Joseph Collins.

Monsignor Collins was born, Aug. 22, 1912, in Indian River, Ontario, Canada, the son of James and Anastasia Foley Collins. He attended St. Michael College, Columbia College and Sulpician Seminary in Washington DC. He was ordained in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 22, 1937, by Archbishop Beckman.

He was an assistant pastor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids from 1937 to 1945; chaplain, Immaculate Conception Academy and Orphan-age, 1945 to 1947; pastor, New All Saints Parish in Cedar Rapids, 1947 to 1948; pastor in Fairbank, 1948 to 1966; Webster City, 1966 to 1969; Dean of the Eagle Grove Dean-ery, 1966 to 1969; pastor, St. Joseph's Parish in Mason City, 1969 to 1972; pastor, St. Pius X, in Cedar Rapids, 1972 to 1982; pastor in LaPorte City, 1982 to 1987, when he retired.

For the past several years, he has lived in Mesa, Ariz. He was very involved with parish of St. Bridget and the Knights of Columbus there.

He was also able to celebrate Mass in his home with a faithful group of friends on most Sundays in his last years.

BELMOND - Cecilia A. McLaughlin Hanson, 67, of Lacey, Wash., formerly Belmond and Humboldt, Iowa, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2003) at Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia, Wash.

A Mass of Christian burial for Cecilia A. Hanson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery near Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane S. in Belmond, with a parish rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Cecilia, the daughter of Edward C. and Vineta Swift McLaughlin, was born Jan. 18, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up and went to school in Pioneer and Gilmore City, Iowa.

In 1953, she married Roger D. Hanson and for the next 26 years they lived in Humboldt, Iowa; Riverdale, N.D.; Coulee Dam, Wash. and Centralia, Wash.

She moved to Olympia in 1979 after her divorce. Cecilia started working for the state government in 1977 and worked there off and on until her retirement in August of last year.

She enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, and spending time with her family. Cecilia also belonged to several peace and justice groups.

Cecilia is survived by two sons, Robert Hanson of Atascadero, Calif., and Timothy Hanson of Bellingham, Wash.; two daughters, Debra Lind and Judy Hanson, both of Olympia, Wash.; five grandchildren, Heather, Alicia, Matthew, Anna Marie and Edward; one sister, Frances (Dan) Gilroy of Apple Valley, Minn.; two brothers, Clement (Cheryl) McLaughlin of Belmond, and Thomas (Janice) McLaughlin of Troy, Mich.; along with numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Cecilia was a warm, loving and generous person who will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.

Margret Frances Patterson was born April 21, 1922, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Mabel (Danielson) and Howard Patterson, the first of four children. The family moved to Bemidji, Minn., where Margret attended and graduated from Bemidji High School.

She married Melvin Furness on Aug. 30, 1941, in Long-view, Wash. They lived in Longview until Melvin enter-ed the service in 1942.

Margret lived with family in Hanlontown, and Bemidji, Minn., while Melvin was stationed overseas. In 1943, Margret joined Melvin, who was then stationed at Camp Hood in Killeen, Texas.

When Melvin was discharg-ed from the service in 1945 the couple returned to Iowa where he joined his brother-in-law, Burton Aasland in a plumbing business in Joice.

Margret lived in Joice for 45 years and was very in-volved in community and church activities including the American Legion Auxiliary, UGO-IGO, Friends of the Library, PTA, Mother's Club.

She was Joice correspondent for the Lake Mills Graphic for many years.

Pastime interests included cooking for her family, playing bridge, golf, camping, many craft activities and family gatherings.

Shortly after moving to Joice, Margret began cooking hot lunches for the Joice school. She would prepare the lunch in her kitchen and carry it across the street to the school. The school had to build a kitchen and cafeteria facilities when Margret became pregnant with her second child, Patty.

Margret also held several part-time jobs in Joice while raising her family, including clerking at the local grocery store and waitressing at the local restaurant.

With her family mostly raised, Margret began working at the Lake Mills Care Center and was employed there for more than 20 years, initially as a nursing assistant, and later as activities director.

Approximately five years after her retirement, Margret returned to the Care Center, residing in the love and care of friends and co-workers for more than 10 years.

NAZARETH, Pa. - Dorothy W. Files, 89, formerly of Nazareth, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at the Phoebe Home in Richlandtown, Pa.

Dorothy W. Files was born on July 12, 1914, in Mason City, to Ernest J. and C. Pearl (Kuhns) Wenrich.

She was as member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Nazareth.

She was a former member of ladies guilds and ladies circles. She taught Sunday and Bible school at the Rutherford-ton Presbyterian Church in Rutherfordton, N.C.

She taught cooking, sewing and home economics for the 4-H Club. She was a foster mother in her 60s. She raised four of her foster children for eight years.

She is survived by two sons, Donald R. Files and his wife, Nancy, of Charlotte, N.C., and Douglas W. Files and his wife, Judith, of Nazareth; grandchildren, Richard Files, of Arizona, Mary C. Files, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Daniel Files, of Washington Crossing, Pa., Charles Files, of Perkasie, Pa., Susan Luse, of Welton, Conn., and Mari Butz of Wilks- Barre, Pa.; and 19 great-grandchildren.

MASON CITY — Carol L. Moore, 87, of 1112 Sixth St. S.E., died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Carol was born May 4, 1916, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Dr. Frederik C. and H. Margaret (Steffensen) Christensen. She graduated from Park High School in Racine, Wis., and received her BM Ed. degree from Northwestern University in Evan-ston, Ill., in 1938 with a major in cello.

For two years, she taught all the music in the schools in Ridge Farm, Ill., where she met Bill Moore. Carol then taught music in the junior high school she had attended in Racine, Wis.

Carol married William H. Moore Aug. 16, 1941, at Holy Communion Church in Racine. They lived in Mason City for one year before Bill was called to serve in the Army Air Force during World War II. She went with him when she could, getting office jobs or clerking in stores. After the war, they returned to Mason City.

Carol was active in Trinity Lutheran Church, directing the junior choir, taught Sunday school, belonged to circles and helped in the church office. She also held part-time jobs outside the church

Carol then devoted her time to raising her children, Nancy and David. When they were in junior high and high school, she took some education courses at UNI and then taught first graders at Jefferson and Hoover Elementary schools.

Carol and Bill retired in 1979 and enjoyed traveling, attended Elderhostel courses and visiting family.

She played cello in the Northwestern Symphony, the Racine Symphony, the Wartburg Symphony and the North Iowa Symphony.

Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, church circle, PEO chapter KX, Veleda Study Club abd Matinee Musical and volunteered at the food bank.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlework, her family, traveling and reading.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Moore, of Mason City; daughter, Nancy Stephenson and husband, Ronald, of Kansas City, Mo.; son, David W. Moore and wife, Lisa, of Sitka, Alaska; granddaughters, Amy Christine and Rachel Ellen; sisters, Myrtle Snarr of Georgetown, Ind., and June Grinney and husband, Leo, of Tucson, Ariz.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a child in infancy, Sharon Carol.

KLEMME — Norman E. Henschen, 67, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2003) as the result of a farm accident at his home north of Klemme.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with the Rev. Linzy Collins Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

TOM E. SKRAM

SPIRIT LAKE — Tom E. Skram, 63, of Spirit Lake, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2003) at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake.

He was born on July 26, 1940, in Mason City to Shirley and Mary Margaret (McLaughlin) Skram. Tom married Janice Murphy on Sept. 8, 1962, in Dubuque.

Tom graduated from Holy Family High School in Mason City in 1958. He then went on to further his education at Loras College, graduating with a business and education degree in 1962.

Tom worked for 3M for 10 years before going to work for Gehlen Catholic High School in LeMars, where he taught physical education and business education.

He was the varsity men’s basketball and cross country coach from 1974 until 1989.

In 1992, Tom and Janice became proud owners of a Subway franchise in LeMars.

Tom was a member of the Optimist Club, Knights of Columbus, United Way, Gehlen J-Club and St Mary’s Catholic Church.

Tom is survived by his wife, Janice Skram, of Spirit Lake; two daughters, Julia Peters and her husband, David, and Cynthia Staver and her husband, James; three sons, Tom Skram Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Peter Skram and his wife, Cheryl, and Michael Skram and his wife, Lori; five sisters, Virginia Lannon, Kathleen Jenkins, Christine Sahn, Mary Lynn Demmer and Jeanie Tomy; two brothers, Steve Skram and John Skram; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Mary Margaret.

A funeral service for Tom will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Spirit Lake.

Visitation will be held from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with a Vigil for the Deceased at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Dick Lees, Dick Heimer, Pat Minnick, Luke Sauer, Denny Bollin and Denny Muller.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Catholic School Foundation of the Diocese of Sioux City.

NORMAN E. HENSCHEN

KLEMME — Norman E. Henschen, 67, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2003) as a result of a farm accident at his home north of Klemme.

Norman Eugene Henschen, the son of Walter Carl and Dora Pauline (Tschirki) Henschen, was born March 11, 1936, on a farm east of Garner.

He graduated from Ventura High School in 1954 and continued his education at Iowa State University in Ames. Following his schooling he returned home to farm with his father.

Norm served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961.

On June 29, 1959, he married Jean Ellen Pollock at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner. They farmed in the Garner and Klemme area all of their married life.

He enjoyed his family, friends, farming and traveling.

Norm was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee and was active on various other committees. He was confirmed at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Klemme.

He also served on the Hancock County Co-op Oil Board and Farm Bureau Board.

Norm is survived by his wife, Jean, of Klemme; three children, Brad Henschen and wife, Teresa, of Cave Creek, Ariz., Jan Misel and husband, Christopher, of Solon, and Sheila Isaacson and husband, David, of Owings, Md; grandchildren, Kara and Katelyn Misel and Helen and Jacob Isaacson, Loren, Nichole and Andrew Kenworthy and Weston Karls; a brother, Carl Henschen and wife, Margie, of Forest City; two stepbrothers, Don Brade and wife, Eunice, of Charlotte, N.C., and Bob Brade and wife, Marcia, of Manassas, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dora Henschen; step-mother, Bertha Brade Henschen; a sister, Darlene Henschen and two brothers, Franklin and Walter Henschen.

CORWITH — Funeral services for Lee Roger Williams, 87, of Corwith, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Corwith, with the Rev. Dan Fernandez officiating. Interment will be in the Corwith Cemetery.

Lee Roger Williams was born on Oct. 7, 1916, at Corwith, Iowa, to Fred and Eugenia Williams Brand. He at-tended rural school for eight years and graduated from Corwith High School in 1934, attended Britt Junior College for one year and Iowa State University in Ames for one year.

On Nov. 15, 1936, Lee was united in marriage with Betty Belle Masterson in Monticello, Ill. Lee and Betty farmed near Corwith for 46 years and also operated Williams TV and Sports Shop for 30-plus years.

An avid sportsman, Lee loved his yearly family trips to Canada, and later, fishing in Alaska.

For 31 years, Lee and Betty enjoyed spending the winter months in southern Texas, where they met and formed numerous lasting friendships.

Lee was very community minded, having served on the Corwith School Board many years, the Corwith Co-op Elevator Board, President of the Community Club, Professional Building Board, and a member of Pheasants Forever.

Lee joined the Corwith Methodist Church as a teenager and always remain-ed an active member. He was a 48-year member of Prudence Lodge #205 A.F. & A.M. of Algona.

Lee had many talents, which included woodworking, carving and building, to name a few. As one friend said, “I’ve never seen anyone like Lee Williams. He can do anything and everything well.”

Lee went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Oct. 23, 2003) at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 87.

Lee is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty, of Corwith; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Williams, of Girdwood, Alaska; daughter, Patricia and husband, Steven Linn, of Solon, Iowa; son, Michael Williams and wife, Deb, of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Geri Williams, of Girdwood, Alaska, Roger Williams and wife, Charlene, of Anchorage, Alaska, Shawn Linn, of Coralville, Angela Linn, of Fairbanks, Alaska; great-grand-children, Lee Pendegraft, of Girdwood, Alaska, and Ashley Jean Williams, of Anchorage, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary, in November of 2000; and his mother, father and step-father.

MASON CITY — Darlene Rose Sprau, 75, of 222 15th St. N.W., Mason City, died early Friday morning (Oct. 24, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Darlene Rose Sprau was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Mason City, to Park and Grace (Lange) Elliott. Darlene attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1946.

She was united in marriage to Alvin James Sprau on Dec. 14, 1946, at the Radio Chapel Church in Mason City.

Darlene’s life work involv-ed caring for and looking after her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

The loving home she created with Alvin served as the heart of three generations of the Sprau family.

Darlene will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends who have shared in her life.

MARSHFIELD, Wis. — Ellen K. Morehouse, 41, 221 S. Schmidt Ave., Marshfield, died Monday (Oct. 20, 2003) at her home surrounded by her family.

Ellen was born March 17, 1962, to Delano and Harriet (Jones) Winter in LeMars, Iowa.

She moved to Clear Lake when she was in the first grade. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980 where she was both a cheerleader and a member of the marching band.

She attended Wartburg College for one year and received her nursing degree from NIACC in 1983.

She worked as a hospital nurse, a clinic nurse, and a school nurse in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Iowa.

Ellen married Dan Morehouse on May 30, 1983, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

To this union were born three children, Sean, Megan, and Erin.

She was active in several book clubs, was on the Altar Care committee at her church and volunteered at Washington School in Marshfield.

Ellen is lovingly survived by her husband, Dan; three children, Sean of Cedar Rapids, Megan and Erin both at home; her parents, Del and Harriet Winters, of Clear Lake; her grandmother, Iris Ong, of Clear Lake; four sisters, Susan (Dave) Latta, of Plymouth, Minn.; Karen (Craig) Shayer, of Indianola, Iowa, Lisa (Jeff) Anderson, of Ames, Iowa, and Lori (Kirk) Muhlenbruck, of Northfield, Minn. She is further survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herman and Meta Winter, Harrod and Helen Jones and Florence Klinge.
