BERNARD J. BUCKLAND

MASON CITY - Bernard J. Buckland, 71, of Mason City, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

His memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Poland officiating. There will be full military rites conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Memorials may be given in his name to Hospice of North Iowa, American Heart Association or Wesley United Methodist Church.

HENRY 'HANK' FAULKNER

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Henry "Hank" Faulkner, 73, of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at Riverside.

MILTON CHRISTIAN PAULSEN

TITONKA - Funeral services for Milton C. Paulsen, 86, of Titonka, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, with Pastor Jim Berka officiating. Interment will be in Good Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Titonka.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.

Milton Christian Paulsen was born at Algona on Jan. 28, 1915, to Adolf and Anna Nielson Paulsen. He was baptized at the Danish Lutheran Church in Ringsted. He received his education in the rural school system near Lakota.

After his schooling, Milton farmed with his parents near Lakota.

On March 9, 1940, Milton was married to Virginia Ruth King at the Kuntz Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Neb. The couple farmed near Lakota until 1976, when they retired from farming and moved into Titonka. Milton then worked for Marting Manufacturing in Britt, and the Titonka Lumber Yard.

Milton was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka and also belonged to the Lions Club. He enjoyed working with his large accumulation of tools on electrical and wood projects at both his farm and home in Titonka. Milton's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Milton died on Tuesday (July 24, 2001) at his home in Titonka at the age of 86. Milton's humor, kindness, patience and generosity will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Milton is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, of Titonka; and his children, Carolyn Hansen and husband, Lynn, of Graettinger, Milton Paulsen Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Albert Lea, Minn., and James Paulsen, of Churdan. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Milton Paulsen III and wife, Shannon, of Albert Lea, Minn., Michael Paulsen, of Little Rock, Ark., Kara Parcher and husband, Paul, of Woden, Jeff Hansen and his wife, Michelle, of Ramsey, Minn., Tony Paulsen, of California, Mo., Tammy Paulsen, of Little Canada, Minn., Patrick Paulsen, of Iowa City, Andy Klinker and wife, Julie, of Rock Island, Ill., and Gretchen Gade and husband, Rob, of Silver Lake, Wis. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Elmer Paulsen and wife, Florence, of Lakota; sisters-in-law, Pat Anson and husband, Patrick, of Cherokee Village, Ark., Dee King, of Omaha, Neb.; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Paulsen, and Mabel Welhousen; and brother, Arthur.

FOREST CITY - Eleanora D. Kamish, 94, of Forest City, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at her daughter's home in Forest City.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michelle Simonson officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, north of Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

KEITH P. SANBORN

MASON CITY - Keith P. Sanborn, 81, 691 E. State St., died Monday (July 23, 2001) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, with a flag presentation by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Camp Tanglefoot or KCMR Radio in his memory.

Keith P. Sanborn was born on March 3, 1920, in Cresco, Iowa, the son of L. Phil and Sylvia A. (Grube) Sanborn. His family moved to Mason City in 1925. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1938.

He went on to further his education at Hamilton College, graduating with an administrative executive degree in June of 1941. He joined the local accounting firm of Frank J. Enbusk & Co. as a staff accountant.

He was united in marriage to Hazel E. Kimm on Oct. 13, 1941, at Northwood Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the Army Finance Corps in December 1942.

Following his discharge in 1945 he rejoined the Enbusk firm and was named a partner in 1957. That firm merged with McGladrey Hendrickson & Co. in 1977 at which time he became a partner in the firm and worked in the Mason City office.

He was active in civic and professional groups. A major achievement of his professional career was serving as chairman of the first Liaison Committee between the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa State Auditor's office in 1969-1970. He also served on the Federal Taxation Committee and Employment Committee of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He was treasurer of the South Central District, Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1958-1960, treasurer of the Iowa District of the American Lutheran Church from 1960-1961, treasurer of Pioneer Museum & Historical Society 1964-1969, treasurer of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce 1970-1972, and member of the board of directors of the Good Shepherd Health Center 1970-1973.

Other community service activities include being treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church for 38 years, member of the Board of Trustees of the Mason City Public Library for several terms, and a former member of the city assessor examining board.

He also managed investments for D&F Investments Co., a local firm, and was former president/treasurer of Farrer Endowment Foundation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer for 38 years.

He was also extremely involved with the Mason City Girl Scout Council for 45 years. He felt very honored in receiving the highest Girl Scout honor, the Badge of Thanks, in April 2001.

He was also honored in being chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 44th annual Mason City Band Festival in June 2001.

He enjoyed travel trailering with his family and was a member of WBCCI for 25 years. He also liked to putter around with the flowers and shrubs around his home. He found a great joy in circuses which resulted in his collection of clowns.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Hazel Sanborn, of Mason City; daughters, Sally Johnston, of Mason City, Cynthia Mogk, of Mason City, and Rosalie Erickson and husband, Jerold, of Mason City; son, Kim P. Sanborn and wife, Linda, of Stacy, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Hanson, of Northwood; aunt, Margaret Phelps, of Decorah; favorite Cousin, Marilyn Frimml, of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three granddaughters: Kathrine Erickson, Jennifer Mogk and Heather Sanborn.

EILEEN MARIE (HENNIGAR) VANEVERY

DENVER, Colo. - Eileen Marie VanEvery, 70, formerly of Manly, died Friday (July 20, 2001) at home after a long illness.

There will be no funeral services. Cremation took place.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn; one daughter, Cheryl, and her husband, Duane, of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren, Deanne, Dawn and Ron, and three great-grandchildren, all of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Betty Lou, of Miami, Fla.; brothers, Loren, of Northwood, Donn, of Jefferson, Owen, of Alden, and Stanley and Hollis, of Fort Worth, Texas.

BERNARD J. BUCKLAND

MASON CITY - Bernard J. Buckland, 71, of 380 S. Yorktown Pike #10, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Bernard J. Buckland was born on Nov. 30, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Bernard J. and Marie L. (Russell) Buckland. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1947.

In 1947 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country until 1966. While in the Navy he was united in marriage to Darlene Cline on June 30, 1950 in Key West, Fla. To this union two children were born.

From 1966 to 1991 he taught at North Iowa Area Community College and furthered his education receiving his B.S. and M.S. from Iowa State University. In 1987 he was recognized statewide with a Teacher of the Year Award for "Outstanding Classroom Teaching and Leadership".

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader and lay speaker. He was also involved with Boy Scouts, Little League, Mended Hearts, Epsilon Pi Tau, American Legion, and the VFW where he was a post commander.

To many he was also known as "Cy the Clown". He enjoyed entertaining the community as a clown. He brightened the days of many at area care centers and MacNider Art Museum.

His cheerful smile and caring ways will be missed by many including his wife, Darlene Buckland, of Mason City; mother, Marie Buckland of Mason City; daughter, Deb Fangman, of Maple Grove, Minn.; son, B.J. Buckland III and wife, Chris, of Minnetonka, Minn.; three grandchildren, Dan, Will, and Stephanie Buckland, of Minnetonka, Minn.; two brothers, Russell L. Buckland and wife, Liz, of West Des Moines, and Gene Buckland and wife, Pat, of Pontiac, Ill.; three sisters, Bonnie Marker and husband, Ralph, of Mason City, Elsie Hampton and husband, Paul, of Pharr, Texas, and Joan Sutcliff and husband, Richard, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard J. Buckland; stepfather, Joe Buckland; grandfather, Elmer Russell; grandchildren, Amy and Jessica Fangman; and son-in-law, Michael Fangman.

CHARLES WILLIAM LOEFFLER

MASON CITY - Charles William Loeffler, 78, of 274 Parkridge Drive, died Thursday (July 26, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Jeff Dahlin, officiating. There will be no visitation. Charles has been cremated according to his wishes.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to the Lime Creek Nature Center or Hospice of North Iowa in Charles' name.

Charles was born May 23, 1923, the son of Charles W. and Adelaide E. (Rudolph) Loeffler. in Jamaica, N.Y. His family then moved to Hartford Conn. Charles later graduated from Bulkeley High School. Following high school he was employed as a security system installer for American District Telegraph for 47 years.

On April 19, 1952 Charles was united in marriage to Arla White in Mason City. To this union were born three children.

As a young boy Charles joined the Boy Scouts of America ever since he has had an interest in scouting. He had collected numerous scouting memorabilia that has since been donated to a museum in New Hampshire. While being active in scouts Charles earned the Silver Beaver Award which is the highest award given to a volunteer. Charles also volunteered his time to the Girl Scouts as well.

Since Charles and Arla moved to Mason City in 1988 Charles has volunteered his time to RSVP, Lime Creek Nature Center, and the MacNider Museum. His other two big collections were a sea shell collection that he donated to the Lime Creek Nature Center, and his stamp collection.

Charles enjoyed the time he spent with his coffee group early in the mornings at HyVee. He also spent hours putting jigsaw puzzles together and taking them apart. Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City.

Those thankful for having shared in Charles' life include his wife, Arla, of Mason City; three children, Faith Ann Loeffler, of California, Karl William and his wife, Gwen Loeffler, of Everett, Wash., and Bonnie Jean Galecki and her husband, James, of Mars, Pa.; one sister, Doris Stevens and her husband, Robert, of Newington, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Loeffler was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister.

Eleanora Dorothy Kamish, the daughter of Andrew and Breta (Elvebak) Hauge, was born March 2, 1907 on a farm in Eden Township in Winnebago County. She attended country school near her home and four years of high school at the Waldorf Academy in Forest City where she graduated as class valedictorian. She continued her education at Waldorf College, graduating as class valedictorian and began teaching school at Kelly, Iowa.

On Nov. 1, 1934 she was married to Frank Kamish at Northwood. They made their home in Forest City where she raised their children and was active in many aspects of the community.

Her family was very important to Eleanora. For many years she provided housing for family members and friends while they attended Waldorf College.

She enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and northeast Iowa with family and friends, reading, painting, puzzles and crafts.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent for many years.

She is survived by her three children, Nancy Jensvold and husband, Bill, of Buffalo Center, Mary Beth Wooldridge, of Forest City, and Frank Kamish and wife, Brenda, of Long Grove, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Linda Jacobson and husband, Brian, of Portland, Ore., Ed Kamish and wife, De, of Portland, Ore., Bill Jensvold Jr. and wife, Dawn, of Buffalo Center, Lynn Beenken and husband, Mark, of Humboldt, Ann Tendall and husband, Mark, of Forest City, Sarah Jensvold, of Minneapolis, Minn., Heidi Jensvold, of Forest City, Karl Wooldridge and wife, Kari, of Forest City, Hugh Wooldridge, of Forest City, Sr. Airman Frank Kamish V of Panama City, Fla., and Tyler Kamish, of Cedar Falls; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Norman D. LATIMER - Alice Wirtz, 93, of Latimer, died Friday (July 20, 2001) at the Hampton Care Center.

Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 30, at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with Father Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Monday.

Alice Wirtz, nee Coulter, was born Jan. 15, 1908, in Lacey, Iowa to Ruth (Dilley) and Albert Coulter. She spent her childhood in the Oskaloosa area, moving to Des Moines with her family as a teenager.

She was married to Milton S. Wirtz on May 4, 1927 at the home of and by his father, the Rev. Wm. E. Wirtz. The couple spent many years in Iowa City where Milton attended the University of Iowa, eventually graduating from the College of Dentistry.

They settled in Latimer to begin the practice of dentistry, which was interrupted by Dr. Wirtz's call to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. After their return, they spent the rest of their working lives in Latimer.

Alice is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hanawalt, of Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Nikki and Adam Blaas, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Prudence (Mrs. Howard) Taylor, of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milton, in November of 1993, and her grandson, Steven, in April of 1998.

RICHARD G. SCHMIDT

LATIMER - Richard G. Schmidt, 79, of Latimer, died Wednesday morning (July 25, 2001) at the Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at The Alexander Reformed Church in Alexander, with the Rev. Philip A. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Hansen-Have Post #645 of Latimer.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home in Latimer, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Richard was born at Alexander on Dec. 25, 1921 to Dick R. and Anna (Blau) Schmidt. He graduated from Alexander High School in 1939.

Richard was united in marriage to Cora Steenhardt on May 25, 1925 at Latimer. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 1992. He later married Mary Pals on May 28, 1992.

Richard served in the Army from 1942-1945. He was stationed in the Philippines where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He farmed for 25 years north of Latimer until moving to Latimer in 1973. Prior to retirement, Richard worked as a Heavy Machine Operator for Franklin County.

He loved to work and play cards. Richard was a member of the American Legion Hansen-Have Post #645 of Latimer, as well as a lifelong member of the Alexander Reformed Church.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Schmidt, of Latimer; three children, Dick Schmidt and his wife, Theresa, of Omaha, Neb., Gary Schmidt and his wife, Christi, of Delmar, Md., and Rozann Lasseter and her husband, Paul, of Athens, Ala.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded by his parents; his first wife, Cora; a brother, Walter Schmidt; and a sister, Leona Barrick.

MAYNARD J. SKADBURG

MASON CITY - Maynard J. Skadburg, 74, of Mason City, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Holmes Lutheran Church in Holmes, with Pastor Stanley Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove and after 9 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Maynard was born in Wright County on Aug. 31, 1926, to Ole and Thora (Peterson) Skadburg. Maynard was united in marriage to Darlene Eaton on Jan. 7, 1951, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.

Maynard served in the Navy during WWII. For more than 30 years, he owned and operated Overhead Doors Sales and Services in Mason City. Also for the last 20 years he and his wife managed the Greenway Apartments in Mason City for Heartland Management.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Darlene Skadburg, of Mason City; three children, Jerry Skadburg and his wife, Maria, of Sioux City, Deb Francis, of Mason City, and Rod Skadburg and his wife, Michelle, of Mason City; five grandchildren; three siblings, Norris Skadburg and his wife, Esther, of Goldfield, Percy Skadburg and his wife, Ina Mae, of Eagle Grove, and Arnie Skadburg, and his wife, Bev, of Burt.

ALICE WIRTZ

LATIMER - Alice Wirtz, 93, of Latimer, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Hampton Care Center.

Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with Father Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Alice Wirtz, nee Coulter, was born Jan. 15, 1908, in Lacey, to Ruth (Dilley) and Albert Coulter. She spent her childhood in the Oskaloosa area, moving to Des Moines with her family as a teen-ager.

She was married to Milton S. Wirtz on May 4, 1927, by his father, the Rev. Wm. E. Wirtz at their home. The couple spent many years in Iowa City, where Milton attended the University of Iowa, eventually graduating from the College of Dentistry.

They settled in Latimer to begin the practice of dentistry, which was interrupted by Dr. Wirtz's call to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII. After their return, they spent the rest of their working lives in Latimer.

Alice is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hanawalt, of Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Nikki and Adam Blaas, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Prudence (Mrs. Howard) Taylor, of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton, in November 1993; her grandson, Dennis, in December 1993; and her grandson, Steven, in April 1998.

Memorials may be given to the Franklin County Historical Society or Habitat for Humanity of North Central Iowa, Franklin County Project.

Perley O. Brunsvold was born Nov. 24, 1913, in Kensett where he lived until he entered Luther College in Decorah.

After graduation he returned to Kensett and began his life's work in education. He was a teacher, principal, coach and ultimately superintendent in his hometown. He moved to Mason City where he first taught and coached baseball, football and basketball at Monroe Junior High School. He moved up to the high school as Athletic Director, Principal and Superintendent of Schools and Director of the Junior College.

He took a two-year leave of absence and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. He graduated with honors, earning the Outstanding Student in Education Administration Award in 1966. Two years later he joined the Education Administration Department at Mankato State University where he taught until he retired in 1979. A Perley Brunsvold Scholarship fund was established to honor his retirement.

In 1936 while teaching in Kensett, he married Arlene Garrett. There were three children born to this union: Brian Garrett, Michael Andrew and Dorothy Janan. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by five grandchildren, Thomas Bergstrom, Amy Bergstrom Irons, Laura Bergstrom Hynes, Paul Brunsvold and MaryAnn Brunsvold Hamilton, and eight great-grandchildren.

He worked on many community projects and committees wherever he lived. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, served as Sunday School Superintendent in Mason City, taught Sunday school 19 years, served as deacon and was on church council at each city in which he lived. He also served on the Boy Scout Board, YMCA Board, Mason City Development Association, and was chairman of the United Way.

Diane M. Heimbuch was born on Oct. 16, 1951, in Mason City, the daughter of Robert and Martha (Graff) Heimbuch. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1969. She went on to further her education at Iowa State University, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in zoology. Following Iowa State she went to the University of Iowa where she graduated in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.

Upon graduation from the University of Iowa School of Nursing, she worked at the Boston University Medical Center in Boston, Mass., from September 1974 to August 1977. After Boston she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she worked at the LDS Hospital from October 1977 to August 1983. She went on to become a traveling nurse in Grants, N.M., and Soldatna, Alaska, from September 1983 to October 1984. The final stage of her career was at the Mayo Medical Center in Rochester, Minn., where she worked from March 1985 until her death.

While growing up in Mason City, she attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. While living in Rochester, she attended the Zumbro Lutheran Church. She also belonged to a small association of critical care nurses.

Those who loved her and will continue to cherish her memory include her mother, Martha Heimbuch of Mason City; six brothers, Donald Heimbuch and his wife, Sharon, of Mason City, Roger Heimbuch and his wife, Jean, of Romeo, Mich., Raymond Heimbuch and his wife, Pamela, of Manly, James Heimbuch and his wife, Judy, of Avon Lake, Ohio, Paul Heimbuch and his wife, Mary, of Cary, Ill., and Mark Heimbuch and his wife, Linette, of Mason City; two sisters, Carolyn Pope and her husband, Richard, of Mason City and Mary Sukup and her husband, Charles, of Dougherty; 22 nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and nephews.

Dorothy, the daughter of John and Anna Marie Roline Senenfelder, was born April 6, 1921, in Grundy Center. She grew up in Grundy Center, Swea City and Dows. Dorothy graduated from Dows High School in 1939.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Archie Bell Sr. on Jan. 24, 1942, in Blue Earth, Minn. The couple made their home in Dows for over 50 years, where together they raised nine children. She was a housewife and mother. Dorothy made her family her first priority. Dorothy's family was a source of great pride to her.

She is survived by three daughters, Doris Hodge and her husband, Robert, of Iowa Falls, Viola Claude of Dows and Karen Thayer and her husband, Larry, of Belmond; six sons, Archie Jr. and his wife, Jeannie, of Madrid, Roger and his wife, Cheryl, of Springview, Neb., Gene and his wife, Mary, of LaClede, Idaho, Fred and his wife, Pam, of Belmond, Chuck and his wife, Cindy, of Dows, and Jim and his wife, Cindy, of Latimer; 39 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Everett M. Hanson, the son of Robert and Bessie (Larson) Hanson, was born Dec. 23, 1919, on a farm near Goldfield. He attended the rural schools of Wright County and farmed with his parents. In 1936 he moved with his family to Crystal Lake where he worked various jobs in the area.

In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Crystal Lake and continued farming.

On Oct. 12, 1946, Everett married Dorothy Stangler at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Besides farming he did road construction and worked at Winnebago Industries from which he retired in 1985.

On June 18, 1990, he married Myrtle Nelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and fishing. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Everett is survived by his wife, Myrtle Hanson of Forest City; three children, Sandra Hanson and her husband, Richard, of Forest City, Rosalyn Berhow and her husband, Wayne, of Kanawha, and DuWayne Hanson and his wife, Debra, of Bulverde, Texas; three stepchildren, Janice Kirschbaum and her husband, Jim, of Crystal Lake, Jerel Nelson and his wife, Miriam, of Omaha, Neb., and Joyce Gradoville of Omaha, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Baker and her husband, Albert, of Forest City, and Ardith Rose of Springdale, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy, in October of 1984; a sister, Ruby Howard; and a brother, LeRoy Hanson.

Mildred was born Aug. 8, 1906, in Volga, Iowa, the daughter of Delos J. and Ethel (Smith) Crain. She attended Upper Iowa College in Fayette.

She married Clarence R. Jacobson on June 10, 1933, in Fayette. In 1938 they started a retail grocery business in Laurel and in 1946 opened another grocery business in Galt. In 1964 they moved to Rudd to live. Mildred assisted her husband with income tax work that he did for farmers and businessmen in Laurel, Galt and Rudd area.

Mildred was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, volunteered at the Rudd Library and was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Nora Springs. Due to failing health she entered the Nora Springs Care Center June of 99.

She is survived by two sisters, Katheryn Goeschel, Garnavillo, Iowa, and Charlotte Schnathorst, Laurel, and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1983; a brother, William Crain; and two sisters, Cecel Sherman and Erma Smith.

Wayne Dwight Ritter was born March 23, 1921, in Greene, a son of Samuel Sours and Pearl (Thompson) Ritter and died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

He received his education in the Greene public schools graduating in 1941. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on Nov. 11, 1942, and served with Company B 316 Engineering Battalion in the campaigns on Rome, Arno-Northern Apennines and Po Valley. Following his discharge on Nov. 6, 1945, he was employed as a lineman for A.T.&T. in Waterloo.

On Jan. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Downing at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene. They began farming in the Greene area for a few years. He was a U.S. Marshal, patrolling the Shell Rock River for several years before becoming employed for the Plainfield Telephone Company.

For the next 35 years, Wayne was employed in appliance service and repair and for plumbing and heating contractors in North Iowa. He delivered Winnebago motor homes and was maintenance man for Park View Apartments in Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret on Jan. 30, 1994.

Wayne was previously married to Ruth Enabnit Juhl on Oct. 1, 1994, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He was a member of the Tack Barnett Post No. 268 American Legion of Greene. Wayne enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing with his C.B. radio (aka Whitey Boy on the radio), fishing, camping, tinkering in the garage, traveling in his motor homes, visiting with his family members and the family reunions. He always had candy in his pocket for his grandchildren.

Wayne leaves to begin a better life. Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Jan Covault of Charles City, Nancy and her husband, Randy Busching, of Erie, Ill, and Marsha Mason of Woodstock, Ill.; two sons, Bob Ritter of Forest City and Rick and his wife, Julie Ritter, of Greene; five grandchildren, Julie Marie and her husband, John Lillburn, Justin Lee and Alanna Marie Busching and Lacey Jae and Cody Richard Ritter; one brother, Don and his wife, Fran Ritter, of Mason City; one sister, Nadine and her husband, George Wilson, of Winthrop; a sister-in-law, Kay Ritter, of Waterloo; brother-in-law, Daniel and his wife, Jan Downing, of Greene; sisters-in-law, Margaret Downing of Greene, Evelyn Downing of Clear Lake, and Mildred and her husband, Earl Goodenberger, of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Dennis who died in the service of his country in Vietnam; three sisters, Ruth Ritter, Ella Mae Merrill, and June Short; two brothers, Dale and Jesse; and a son-in-law, Dick Covault.

BRITT - Paul Jenn, 25, of West Branch, formerly of Britt, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) as a result of a motor-vehicle accident north of Ventura.

VIOLET MONSON

FOREST CITY - Violet Monson, 87, of Forest City, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at the San Clemente Hospital in San Clemente, Calif.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Violet Monson was born on May 16, 1914, in Winnebago County to Albert and Johanna (Strom) Hockenson. She was the oldest of four children. She attended rural school before entering high school. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1933.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized in infancy and confirmed May 26, 1929.

Violet Hockenson was united in marriage to Truman Monson of Forest City on July 18, 1934, at the Salem Lutheran Church. They rented and lived on several farms in the Forest City area, where they lived until moving to Forest City in September of 1990.

She became a member of Winnebago Church in 1948 and has been an active member in various capacities in A.L.C.W., the Martha Circle and taught Sunday school for a number of years.

Violet lived with her family in California for the past year and a half, where she got especially close to her great-granddaughter, Caitlyn.

She is survived by her son, Duane Monson and his wife, Gabriele, of San Clemente, Calif.; her granddaughter, Dominiqua Mumaw and her husband, Stefan, and their daughter, Caitlyn Ashley, of California; a sister-in-law, Lola Hockenson, of Baldwin, Wis., as well as a brother-in-law, Thomas Monson, of Forest City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Truman; her brother, Lloyd Hockenson; and two sisters, Esther Tillman and Irene; also five grandchildren, Debbie, Jody, Shawn, John and Todd.

OVEDIA K. ASKELAND

MASON CITY - Ovedia K. Askeland, 85, of 1409 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Ovedia K. Askeland was born Aug. 21, 1915, in Leland, Iowa to Alfred and Cora (Edihl) Peterson.

On Oct. 5, 1935, she was married to Arthur B. Askeland in Lake Mills, Iowa, where they farmed until 1951 when they moved to Mason City. Arthur passed away on July 23, 1966.

Ovedia worked at the Mercy Hospital for 28 1/2 years. Following her retirement, she became active at Trinity Lutheran Church in the women's circle, bazaar, and she especially enjoyed the making of lefse for the bazaar. She will be sadly missed by all her family and all that knew her.

She is survived by daughter, Clarine Uhrig and her husband, Bill, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; son, Ralph Askeland and his friend, Ruth Bryant, of Mason City; daughter, Diane Larson and her husband, Dennis, of Owatonna, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Orin Askeland; and two sisters, Herborg Peterson, of California; and Alice Severson, of Leland.

LATIMER -Floyd Dodd, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday (July 27, 2001) in Phoenix.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Helen Krabbe-Dodd, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Latimer; two children, Bruce Dodd and his wife, Bridget, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Susan Hettema and her husband, David, of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren.
