DONNA KAYE (MURPHEY) OLSON

GORDONSVILLE, Minn. - Donna Kaye (Murphey) Olson, 57, died Friday (June 29, 2001) at her home in Gordonsville, Minn.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Northwood United Methodist Church of Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Interment will be at State Line Cemetery, rural Gordonsville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, 1415 N. Highway 13, Albert Lea, Minn., and will continue one hour before the service at the church Monday.

Donna was born in Windom, Minn., on Feb. 19, 1944. She was the daughter of Donald Anson Murphey and Marjorie Gropper. She married David Ross Olson on May 28, 1966, at the Jeffers Methodist Church. Her children are Daniel Ross (Sharon) of Charleston, S.C., and Dean Ryan (Crystal) of Northwood, and proud grandmother of Zachary Thomas and Jonathan Ross. She has three sisters, Sharon (Darris) Snelling of Windom, Minn., Joyce (Tom) Burns of Cleveland, Minn., and Kim (Mark) Schmitz of Saint Peter, Minn. Donna was preceded in death by her father.

Donna attended public school and graduated as valedictorian from Jeffers High School. She attended Mankato State College and earned a bachelor's degree in speech therapy. She worked as a speech clinician in Hutchinson before their family relocated to Gordonsville in 1976.

They attended the Gordonsville Methodist Church until it closed. Donna held many offices and served on many committees during this period of time. They then joined the Northwood United Methodist Church. She served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school and Bible school teacher, and was a member of the Seeker's Circle. She served two terms as a member of the Glenville School Board, was a member of P.E.O. Chapter ES, of Inter Se Study Club, and of Eastern Star. She also served on the State Line Cemetery board. Donna worked many years at the Trading Post in Gordonsville, the family's business.

SUZANNE FELDT

MASON CITY - Suzanne Feldt, 64, formerly of St. Ansgar, died on Friday (June 29, 2001) at USA Healthcare, Inc.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Suzie was born on Feb. 28, 1937, in Osage, to Edward and Mildred (Thompson) Feldt. Suzie attended school in Jamestown, N. D., and Red Oak. Suzanne spent a great deal of time at home in her mother's care until she entered USA Healthcare.

Suzanne will always be known for her special pot holders and her love for her family and friends. Suzie was a dedicated television watcher and spent many happy hours viewing videos. She was a great joy to her family.

Suzanne is survived by her mother, Mildred Feldt, of Mason City (formerly of St. Ansgar); two sisters, Donna Jamison of Mason City and Sherilyn Phares of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, William Feldt of Albany, Mo.; five nephews; four nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Mable Thompson; and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Margaret Harcourt.

VIRGIL RICE

LIME SPRINGS - Virgil Rice, 83, died Thursday (June 28, 2001) at Regional Health Services of Howard County.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Lime Springs, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home, Lime Springs, and one hour before the services at the church Monday.

Virgil Rice, the son of Ella G. Hamstreet and Clark C. Rice, was born July 21, 1917, at Clear Lake. He attended school in Clear Lake, graduating from high school in 1935.

On Oct. 15, 1939, he married Agnes Polsdofer at Swaledale. He farmed at Clear Lake five years and at Rockwell 10 years before moving to Lime Springs. He was initially a farmer, but was also a salesman and the originator of the SMI pallet plant, which he owned and managed for 25 years.

He was 4-H leader for 25 years and served as chairman of the leaders in Cerro Gordo County. He was co-chairman of the Howard County Republican Party for 13 years.

Virgil was baptized in the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, and is presently a member of the United Methodist Church in Lime Springs.

Surviving are his wife, Agnes, and children, Linda (Brittain) Lukens of Versaille, Ind., Donna (Larry) Bonnstetter, West Bend, Clair (Carol) Rice, Verndale, Minn., Dennis (Velma) Rice, Lime Springs, and Betty (Dennis) VandeLaare, Mendota Heights, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; his brother, Carrol Rice of Swaledale; and his sisters, Geneva Felton, Portland, Ore., and Edith Edson of Berkeley, Calif.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Kenneth, Paul, Clifford and Harold.

ILA TERENCE KNUTSON

NORTHWOOD - Ila Terence Knutson, 81, of 700 N. 10th St., died Friday (June 29, 2001) at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with Interim Pastor Lyn Frank and the Rev. Philip Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in the South Shell Rock Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be from 5 to7 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, and will resume one hour before the service at the church Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to South Shell Rock Cemetery or First Lutheran Church.

Ila was born on Oct. 25, 1919, at Joice, the daughter of Lars and Ida (Ramsey) Amundson. She attended the Larson School at rural Joice and graduated from Lake Mills High School.

Ila taught in rural schools in Worth County for several years. In June 1942 she was married to Cornell Knutson at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Joice. Ila and Cornell resided at the Knutson farm west of Northwood for their entire married life.

Quilting and gardening were among her hobbies. She was active in the Worth County Historical Society, First Lutheran Church Women and the Golden Tones Women's Choir of First Lutheran Church.

Ila is survived by four children, Sharyl Nestor of Eden Prairie, Minn., L. Timothy Knutson and his wife, Jeanette, of Fort Worth, Texas, Gary Knutson and his wife, Twyla, of Olathe, Kan., and Rachel Nordstrom of Zearing; eight grandchildren, Andrew Nestor, Troy, Mich., Joy Nestor, San Francisco,Calif., Jonathan Knutson, Olathe, Kan., Katie Knutson, Sandusky, Ohio, Carl Knutson, Fort Worth, Ingrid Knutson, Fort Worth, Kimberly Shinn and her husband, David, Zearing, and Michael Nordstrom, Zearing; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Shinn, Zearing; a brother, Lester Amundson and his wife, Avis, Northwood; sister-in-law, Lucille Medlang, Kensett; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two grandsons, Daniel and Aaron Nordstorm; sister, Orlette Florentz; and four infant sisters.

WANDA JEAN SEELEY

UNIVERSITY PARK, Wash. - Wanda Seeley, 59, formerly of Plymouth, passed away on Monday (June 25, 2001) at St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, Wash., from a brain aneurysm. Services were held in Tacoma, Wash., June 30.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at First United Methodist Church, Plymouth, with the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating.

Wanda Seeley was born Nov. 19, 1941, the daughter of George W. and Martha (Myrt) Seeley in Mason City. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1959. Wanda graduated from the University of Iowa in 1963 and the Mayo School of Physical Therapy in 1965.

Wanda went to Tacoma, Wash., to work as a physical therapist. She enjoyed her work, especially working with people.

Wanda enjoyed flowers, nature and being at home. She played the saxophone in school and also played piano for Sunday school.

Survivors include her parents, George W. and Martha (Myrt) Seeley of Plymouth; two brothers, Gerald Seeley of San Francisco, and Dale Seeley of Garland, Texas; and four aunts, Nellie Lunde, Mrs. Donald Seeley, Esther Marken and Helen Marken.

ELAINE MARIE SVOBODA STEVENS

NORTHWOOD - Elaine Marie Svoboda Stevens, 90, passed away Saturday (June 30, 2001) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Northwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Elaine was born Aug. 1, 1910, in Verdigre, Neb., to William James and Jessie Ellen (Smith) Svoboda. The family lived in Omaha, Neb., from 1911 to 1918, and they returned to Verdigre, where she graduated from high school in 1928.

On July 24, 1928, she was united in marriage with Livingston George Stevens and the couple began farming west of Verdigre. Three children were born in Nebraska: Lois, George and Alan. In 1937 they moved to Iowa, where their youngest child, David, was born. They farmed east of Northwood until they retired in 1968 and built a new home in Northwood.

Elaine was a member of the Northwood United Methodist Church, the Northwood Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was active in church circles and in her community. She was an avid reader, lover of nature and took great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elaine is survived by her brother, William M. Svoboda, of Battle Creek, Neb.; her children, Lois and Clyde Hill of Huxley, George and JoAnn Stevens of Longmont, Colo., Alan and Mavis Stevens of Northwood, and David and Anne Stevens of Northwood; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Livingston; her parents; a sister, Eunice Havlicek; and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Elaine Stevens.
