Jim was born Jan. 27, 1956, in Forest City, the son of Delbert "Bud" and Phyllis (Olson) Faber. He attended school in Forest City, graduating in 1974 from the Forest City High School. Following his schooling, Jim worked for the elevator company in Joyce, and later was a press operator for the Forest City Summit newspaper. In November of 1985, he worked for Stoyles Publishing in Mason City and their branch operation, Graphic Publishing in Lake Mills. In July of 1998, he began employment with G & R Publishing Company, where he was a press supervisor.

On June 1, 2000, Jim was united in marriage to Karla (Balk) Sloan in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple lived in their dream home on an acreage in rural Plainfield.

Jim's love for his family and his desire to enjoy life kept him very busy. He had a passion for riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoyed this activity until a serious accident prevented him from riding. Jim did not let this set him back, though, because he had many other passions and was intense about everyone and everything he loved. He loved being with Karla and watching their children enjoying their life activities. Josh obtained a love for bull riding and they cheered him on every chance they had. They proudly watched Andrew wrestle and play football. Jim became a stepfather when he married Karla and opened his heart to Danielle and Eric. Their activities were also a big part of Jim's life. Jim introduced Karla to his love for horses and Karla embraced his love for the country and the cowboy way. Their perfect day was a long trail ride with their close friends, and a warm campfire at the end of the trial.

Jim surrounded himself with hard-working, fun-loving people. If his neighbor needed a helping hand, or if a friend needed a favor, he was there. He had a strong character and was good for his word. He saw life as an adventure and met every day with that in mind.

There were only three things left in Jim's life that he wanted: a new truck, a buckskin horse and a trip to Alaska. Jim will not have those things on Earth, but his adventure in Heaven will finish fulfilling what he did not get done here.

He is survived by his wife, Karla, of Plainfield; his two sons, Josh and Andrew Faber, both of Forest City; his two step-children, Danielle and Eric Sloan, of Plainfield; his mother, Phyllis Faber, of Forest City; his brother, Alan Faber and his wife, Denise, and their children, Jesse and Lindsey, all of Woden.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert and then by his brother, Douglas, on June 26, 1999.
