ALGONA - Sharon Kaye Gramenz, 60, of 119 S. Minnesota St., Algona, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Algona, with the Rev. Kevin Hollinger officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Township Cemetery, Rinard.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, 218 S. Moore St., Algona and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

CHARLIE ALAN GUSTAFSON

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -Charlie Alan Gustafson, son of Derek and Renee (Sheahan) Gustafson of Overland Park, Kan., and formerly of Boone, was stillborn on Wednesday (Feb. 21, 2001) at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee Mission, Kan.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in the Linwood Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Ron Franklin officiating.

Survivors include his parents, of Overland Park, Kan.; grandparents, Gary and Beth Gustafson, of Boone, and Rick and Bette Skilbred, of Clear Lake; Lisa and Albert Sheahan Jr., of Mason City; great-grandparents, Elizabeth Gustafson, of Boone, Laurine Sheahan, of Mason City, Leona Fisher, of Hastings, Minn., and Harold and Karola Skilbred, of Hanlontown.

HAROLD J. LEWIS

GREENE - Funeral services for Harold J. Lewis, 78, of 207 South Second St., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 28, 2001) at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Wayne Hagen officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene following church services. Burial will be in the New Oregon Cemetery in Cresco.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church one hour before services.

Harold James Lewis was born Oct. 20, 1922, in rural Howard County, a son of Thomas and Freida (Ratz) Lewis and died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

He was baptized Sept. 20, 1926, and confirmed Dec. 6, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. He received his education in the rural Howard County Schools. As a young man he worked as a farm hand in the rural Howard County area.

On Aug. 15, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge on Nov. 26, 1944, he worked as a farm hand in the Alta Vista area for several years. On June 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Hazel A. Duneman at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Cresco.

He worked for rendering companies in Cresco and Alpha before moving to Greene in 1962 where he became employed by the Greene Rendering Works. In 1979 he became employed by the Greene Community School District and worked as a custodian until his retirement in 1989.

Harold served as mayor for the City of Greene from 1990 to 1994. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed being around his family and friends and one who socialized by playing Bingo, Tong, or Cribbage. He was an avid Cubs fan. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene and a member of the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Hazel, of the Liebe Care Center of Greene; three daughters and their spouses, Diane and Dean Price, of Independence, Janice and Robert Schell, of Evansdale, Linda and Michael Donavon, of Shell Rock; two sons and their spouses, Thomas and Rebecca Lewis, of Colfax, Michael and Stacy Lewis, of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Burnetta Cummings, of LeRoy, Minn., Opal Dotzler and June Urness, both of Winona, Minn., Mary Miller, of Lanesboro, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Grace Lewis, of Cresco, Evelyn Lewis, of Mason City and Mary Lewis, of Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruth Rink and three brothers, Raymond, Paul and William Lewis.

CARROLL H. 'DUKE' SCHROEDER

GREENE - Funeral services for Carroll H. "Duke" Schroeder, 74, of 22 South First St., Greene, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 27, 2001) at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Greene with Pastor Wayne Hagen officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene following church services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene where there will be a public Scripture service at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Carroll Herman Schroeder was born on June 27, 1926, son of Herman and Ella (Hilmer) Schroeder at the family home at 401 South Main Street in Greene, and died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

He was baptized July 25, 1926, and confirmed on May 12, 1940, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. He received his education from the Greene Public Schools graduating in 1944. He worked as a shipping clerk for Oliver Farm Equipment Co. in Charles City until he was inducted into the United States Army where he served with the Infantry until his discharge on Dec. 5, 1945. He enlisted on Dec. 6, 1945 in the United States Air Force, where he served as a radio operator in Germany and Labrador with the 4400 Air Base Group. Following his honorable discharge on Dec. 5, 1948, he returned to work at Oliver in Charles City.

On July 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Lavone Jean Schuknecht at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. They made their home in Greene where he became employed with State Brand Creamery in Greene as a butter maker. In 1953, the family moved to Rock Creek near Osage, where he was employed by the creamery there until returning to Greene in 1955 where he resumed employment at Greene Creamery until it closed in 1965. He worked for Bathke Oil Company until his retirement in 1984. Following retirement he worked part time for Bathke Oil Company and Greene Farm Equipment Company. He had been a resident of the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City since January 1997.

Carroll will be remembered for his ability as a champion bowler, still holding top records in bowling league play. He enjoyed trout fishing in Northeast Iowa, playing cards, flower gardening, and watching his grandchildren's activities. He was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene and the Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.

Those thankful for having shared Carroll's life include his loving wife, Lavone, of Greene; his two children and their spouses, Steve and Barb Schroeder, Marilyn and Phil Wahlgren, all of Greene; six grandchildren, Shane and Staci Schroeder, of Noblesville, Ind., Shawna and Terry Zwart, of Greene, Joel Schroeder and his friend, Tiffany Lloyd, of Maryville, Mo., Anthony, Austin, and Autumn Wahlgren, all of Greene; three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Tamala Zwart, of Greene and Luke Schroeder, of Noblesville, Ind.; two sisters and their spouses, Rowena and glen Swedlund, of Portland, Ore., Verna and Archie Brott, of Benson, Minn., two brothers and their spouses, Roy and Trudee, of Saratoga, Wyo., Robert and Marilyn, of Washburn; two sisters-in-law, Doreen Schroeder and Shirley Schroeder, both of Greene; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Dwight, Earl, Dale and Howard Schroeder.

MARBLE ROCK - Everett H. "Bud" Jordan, 87, of Waterloo, died Thursday (Feb. 22, 2001) at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock with the Rev. Marjorie Bradshaw of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, in Marble Rock.

BRITT - Charles D. Gordon, 74, of Crystal Lake, passed away Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

Funeral services for Charles Gordon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with Rev. Dr. William H. Breen, Interim Pastor officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church. Military rites will be under the direction of the Britt Veteran's Ceremonial Unit.

HERMAN P. EEKHOFF

KANAWHA - Herman P. Eekhoff, 85, of Kanawha, Iowa, passed away Saturday, (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Funeral services for Herman Eekhoff will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha, with Pastor G. David Daley officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Herman, the son of Rev. Peter H. and Marie Johnson Eekhoff, was born June 16, 1915, on the family farm south west of Kanawha and was baptized at the Wright Christian Reformed Church on July 4, 1915. The family moved from the farm when Herman was 5 years old. He attended school in Grundy Center and Dubuque and graduated from high school in Muscoda, Wisconsin, in 1933. Herman worked for various farmers in the Kanawha area until beginning his own farming operation in the Kanawha and Corwith areas in the late 1930s.

Herman was united in marriage with Elsie Mae Swyter, the love of his life, on June 23, 1938, by his father, the Rev. Peter H. Eekhoff on the Swyter family farm south of Britt. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Kanawha, and later moved to Corwith, before moving back to Kanawha in 1948 where Herman farmed and did carpentry work. Following Elsie's death in 1969, Herman continued to live on the farm until 1988 when he retired and moved into Kanawha. Even after his retirement Herman continued to help area farmers and do carpentry.

Spending special times with his family and friends was important to Herman. He was known for his sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and baseball. Herman enjoyed music very much and participated in the community choir. He was a member of the Hancock County ASCS Board. Herman also served as Twin Lakes Township Clerk and Trustee for more than 35 years. During that time, he helped organize the Goodell and Kanawha Fire Departments. Herman served as clerk for the Goodell Rural Fire Department.

Herman will be remembered for the Christian example he set for his children. His church was very important to him. He was a long-time member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church where he served as a consistory member and was active on various committees.

Herman is survived by five daughters: Carol Everett and her husband, Robert, of Omaha, Nebraska, Donna Eggum and her husband, Jon, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Janet Olsen and her husband, Harland "Oley" of Mason City, Linda Foss and her husband, Rich, of Winona, Minnesota, and Sue Schlosser and her husband, Steve, of Mason City; one son; Paul and his wife, Denise, of Clarion; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Stella Neymeyer and her husband, Lester, of Aplington, and Thelma Mills and her husband, Kay, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; two brothers: the Rev. Wiert Eekhoff and his wife Esther, of Harper, Kansas and Peter W. Eekhoff and his wife Henrietta, of Kanawha; son-in-law, Harold "Bud" Karsjens of Aplington and brother-in-law, Gerald Swyter of Kanawha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1969, and daughter, Mary Ann Karsjens, in 2000.

MERLE H. RUKA

BELMOND - Merle H. Ruka, 82, of Belmond, passed away Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Funeral services for Merle H. Ruka will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Goodell with the Rev. Curtis DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam cemetery near Goodell.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Merle, the son of Arthur and Florence Thompson Ruka, was born July 22, 1918, at Goodell. He was raised west of Goodell. Merle attended country schools and graduated from Belmond High School in 1936.

Merle was united in marriage to Marguerite Drury on March 14, 1941, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Goodell. The couple made their home west of Goodell where Merle farmed. They moved to Belmond in 1995. Merle and Marguerite would have been married 60 years next month. Three children were born to this union, Gary, Lynn and Marilyn.

Merle's life consisted of his family and friends. He was member of the Goodell United Methodist Church where he held many positions. Merle was also a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He served on the Hancock County ASCS Board for several years. Merle worked at the Belmond Sale Barn for many years.

Merle is survived by his wife, Marguerite, of Belmond; two sons, Gary and his wife, Sheila, of Belmond and Lynn and his wife, Lorraine, of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Marilyn Beukema and her husband, Dick, of Mitchellville; an aunt, Ethyl Thompson of Belmond; six grandchildren, Darcy Ruka, of Council Bluffs, Julie Ruka, of Lake Mills, Wis., Steven Ruka of Boulder, Colo., Lori Ruka, of Phoenix, Ariz., Todd Beukema ,of Mitchellville and Dean Beukema, of Guthrie Center; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Florence Johnson, of Britt, Beryl Friedow, of Kanawha, Mae Drury, of Rowan, Keith and Doris Drury, of Madison, Ala., Don Abbas, of Kanawha, and Evelyn Ruka, of Boulder, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lyle; sister, Eleanor Abbas; brothers-in-law, Robert Drury and Milton Friedow; a niece, Jayanna Friedow and two nephews, Steve Drury and Wayne Johnson.

MASON CITY - Betty Jean Kelly, 79, of Mason City, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

CHARLES D. GORDON

BRITT - Charles D. Gordon, 74, of Crystal Lake, passed away Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Charles Gordon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with the Rev. Dr. William H. Breen, Interim Pastor, officiating. Charles Duane Gordon, the son of Walter and Lela Friedow Gordon was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Britt. He grew up in the Britt and Crystal Lake area and attended Crystal Lake schools.

Charles later entered the United States Army and served his country from Feb. 20, 1945, until Nov. 28, 1946.

Following his discharge from the Army, he was employed in the Britt area for many years. He was also employed as an over-the-road truck driver.

Charles was united in marriage with Kay Curran on May 13, 1960, at the Lutheran Church in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt.

Charles was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt. He was also a member of the Britt American Legion Post # 315.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Lisa Short and her husband, Jeff, of Garner; two grandchildren, Abby and Jeffrey; and a special friend, Kay Gordon, of Britt; even though the couple divorced, they remained good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Russell, and one sister, Ines.

MARGUERITE E. 'MARGE' NELSON

MASON CITY - Marguerite E. "Marge" Nelson, 73, of 321 Fourth St. N.E., died Saturday evening (Feb. 24, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Scott Holmes of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be at Columbarium II of Memorial Park Cemetery at a later time.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel where memories may be reminisced.

Marge was born on June 28, 1927, one of two children to Calvin and Cecelia (Kilberg) Lawrence at Prophetstown, Ill. She graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1945 and attended school at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Ill.

She later moved to Chicago where she met and married James Nelson on Feb. 5, 1954. To this union were born three children. They lived for a while in Illinois, moving to Mason City in about 1958.

While being a homemaker and raising her family she worked at various jobs in North Iowa .

She loved all types of music, and was in a trio that sang for businesses and churches. She also was an actress in the community theaters in Chicago and here in Mason City

Sharing Marge's life include her three children - daughter, Mary Duggan, of Mason City; sons, David and his wife, Cathy Nelson, of Dallas, Texas, and Sven and his wife, Rose Nelson Sr., of Marble Rock; four grandchildren, Justin Boss, Amber Johnson, Andrea Cooper, and Sven Nelson Jr.; and three great-grandchildren Tessy, Trevor, and Devin.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Calvin Lawrence.

MANLY - Archie Bolin, 82, of Manly, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel in Manly. Inurnment will follow at the Manly Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 110.

He was born June 3, 1918, in Denver, Colo., the son of John Archie and Alice (Skarpol) Bolin. After completing his education, he enlisted in the Army and worked as a cook and later as a butter maker.

Archie was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, Minn. After his discharge from the Army he worked for Winnebago Industries, and also managed several hotel/motels and restaurant businesses.

In Archie's earlier years he enjoyed showing horses. Archie was united in marriage to Shirley D. Bird on Aug. 10, 1940, in Estherville.

Upon retirement, he worked on lawnmowers and did woodworking.

Archie was a member of the American Legion Post 110 of Manly.

Archie is survived by his wife, Shirley D. Bolin, of Manly; son, Marc Bolin and his wife, Joan, of Bloomington, Minn.; daughters, Marcia Garnass and her husband, James, of Manly, Shari Hoffman and her husband, Loren, of Fertile, and Joni Flieth and her husband, Roger, of Mason City; sister, Alice Maddox and her husband, Earl, of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Eric and Lief Garnass, of Manly, Lornea Purcell, of Clear Lake, Dustin and Keegan Hoffman, of Fertile and Eli Flieth, of Mason City; two stepsisters, Cyrilla Montgomery, of San Diego, Calif. and Theresa Like, of Hadley, Minn; one stepbrother, Ray Jacobson, of LaMesa, Calif.; one half sister, Lori Lakey and her husband, Bill, of Sante, Calif.; and three half brothers, Joe Bolin and his wife, Judy, of Alexandria, Minn. Rhonda was born March 20, 1955, in Mason City, the daughter of Marlin and Elizabeth Miller. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1973.

Rhonda married Phillip Krambeer on Aug. 4, 1973, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They lived in Clear Lake until 1980, then moved to the Waterloo area, and moved back to Clear Lake in 1982. They moved to Ventura in 1992.

She worked as a county home health aid and drove the bus for Head Start in Clear Lake. Rhonda loved to sing songs with the kids on the bus.

She loved her dog, Cocoa, watching the Discovery Channel, playing Jeopardy, and reading and cooking for her family. She especially liked helping people, loved her grandchildren and spoiling them. She also enjoyed fishing, the family picnicking, sitting around the campfires and feeding the birds

Rhonda was a member of the Church of Christ in Clear Lake.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, Phillip Krambeer of Ventura; daughter, Tara and her husband, Dan Lincicum, of Clear Lake; daughter, April Krambeer, of Ventura; her father, Marlin Miller and stepmother, Diane, of Clear Lake; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Caffrey, of Clear Lake; paternal grandmother, Corrine Miller, of Clear Lake; paternal stepgrandmother, Ella Mae Ouverson, of Clear Lake; one brother, Jeff Miller and his wife, Christine, of Greene; two grandchildren, David John Lincicum and Daphne Jo Lincicum; one sister-in-law, Linda Moeller and her husband, Ken, Naperville, Ill.; and one brother-in-law, Charles Krambeer, of Forest City.

MASON CITY - Raymond M. "Mony" Vega, 72, of 1138 E. State St. died Sunday , Feb. 25, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Inurnment will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 until 6:30 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Spanish Rosary at 5:30 p.m. and a Scriptural service at 6:30 p.m.

Ray was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Mason City, the son of Leon V. and Maria (Perez) Vega. He grew up in the Lehigh Row neighborhood of Mason City, graduated from Holy Family Catholic High School in 1947 and from Loras College in 1951.

During his college years, he played fast-pitch softball to make money during the summer. He later attended the University of Illinois to work towards his master's degree.

Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from July of 1951 until December of 1953. While in the service, Ray played for the U.S. Army National Softball Team and was flown all over Japan to play ball.

Ray was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. Grimes on August 9, 1952, in Fort Hwachuca, Ariz. He taught and coached at several schools including Ossian-Danbury, Iowa, Lost Nation, Iowa, and Oxford Junction, Iowa, where he was also the principal.

Ray then came to Newman Catholic High School where he taught and coached for 25 years.

Ray was on the Newman Board of Education. He also served on the Human Rights Committee, worked with migrants at Job Services and the Head Start Program, was a Webelo Boy Scouts leader, and served as a city councilman in the 1970s.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the River City Softball Hall of Fame and the Mason City VFW Post #733.

Ray enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafts and woodworking, sports, listening to Nat King Cole music, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his many attributes and accomplishments, including his great sense of humor.

Ray is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Sandy and Jim Redeker, of Mason City and Lori and David Chapin, of Forest City, four sons and their spouses, Tom and Pam Vega, of St. Charles, Minn., Roy and Peggy Vega, of Mason City, Mark and Rhea Vega, of Mason City, and Dennis Vega, of Mason City, nine grandchildren, Cory Redeker, his wife, Traci, and their children, Jace and Brooke, all of Manly, Carrie Santee, her husband, Kevin, and their children, Nicole and Zachary, all of Plymouth, Reece Vega, and Brittany Vega, both of St. Charles, Minn., Geri Maulsby, her husband, Scott, and their children, Cody and Bailey, all of Clear Lake, Elizabeth Vega and her special friend, Scott O'Donnell, of Mason City, and Sammi, Chet, and Cheyanne Chapin, of Forrest City; two sisters, Sister Lucy Vega of Indiana, and Mary Sanchez, of Mason City; three brothers, Phil Vega and Peter Vega, both of Mason City, and Rulie Vega and his wife, Jean, of California; his Rottweiler dog, Gabby; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

LAKOTA - Margaret Steenhard, 79, of Lakota, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at her home.

Margaret Ann Steenhard, the daughter of Gilman and Mathilda (Juhnke) Dalberg, was born April 14, 1921, at Redwood Falls, Minn. She was baptized on July 31, 1921.

She graduated from Wabasso High School in Wabasso, Minn. with the Class of 1939. Then she graduated from St. Olaf College in 1943. After college, she worked for Lutheran Social Services in Minnesota and in Iowa.

She started teaching at the Lakota Community School where she met Henry A. Steenhard. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1951, at the First English Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls. Margaret also taught school in Ledyard and finally in Elmore, Minn.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota where she was active with many organizations.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Henry, of Titonka; her son, Jim and his wife, Joyce, of Swea City; her daughter, Ann Steenhard, of St. Paul, Minn.; a grandson, Ryan Steenhard, of Swea City; a brother, Bob Dahlberg and his wife, Helen, of Redwood Falls, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Dahlberg, also of Redwood Falls, Minn.; and by several nieces and nephews.

Orrie B. Calgaard was born on Jan. 10, 1908, at McCallsburg, the daughter of Ole and Bertha (Lura) Nessa. She was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

On Oct. 2, 1926 she was united in marriage to Palmer Calgaard in Albert Lea, Minn. They lived on a farm near Joice until 1969, when they moved into Joice.

Orrie was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, various women's organizations and the Joice Rejoicers Senior Citizens Club.

She loved flowers, both indoors and outdoors.

In April of 1997, she moved to Maple Court Apartments in Northwood, where she lived until her death.

Betty Jean Kelly was born on May 28, 1921, in Des Moines, the daughter of William and Edith Lucille (Newlon) Factor. She attended and received her education in the Mason City School system.

Betty was united in marriage to Marcus B. Kelly on Jan. 19, 1942, in Albert Lea, Minn. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1991. After their marriage she loved and cared for her family.

She enjoyed doing artistic work, flowers - especially yellow roses - bowling, and going to her children's athletic events. Her great love and enjoyment, however, was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the church circle in Mason City.

MASON CITY - Norman C. Huff, 74, of Mason City, died Friday (Feb. 23, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The funeral will be held at a later date. His body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, Des Moines.

Norman C. "Red" Huff was born July 15, 1926, in Dodge, Neb., the son of Lee O. and Lillian E. (Stewart) Huff. His family moved to Mason City in 1934, where he attended high school. Following high school, he enlisted in the Civil Air Patrol in Biloxi, Miss., in the 1940s.

He returned to Mason City and later met and married Francis Nielsen in Clear Lake. She passed away on July 6, 1969.

Following his retirement working as an electrician and welder for Snyder Construction in Clear Lake, he moved to Mason City in 1980.

Norman was an avid photographer and gardener. He enjoyed the challenges involving science and electrical work. He also loved children of all ages.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his niece Amy Petersen and the staff at USA Healthcare and Hospice of North Iowa for their unconditional dedication.

He is survived by four brothers, Calvin Huff, of Mason City, Clifford and wife, Jane, of Hampton, John and wife, Judy, of Mason City, and Judge David and wife, Cecelia, of Fallon, Nev.; one sister, Vivian Groom, of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Huff, of Creston, and Edna Huff, of Sheffield; and many nieces and nephews.

OSAGE - Mabel Simpson, 91, formerly of Osage, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 2001) at the Presbyterian Homes of Lake Minnetonka in Spring Park, Minn., of natural causes.

Mabel was born May 24, 1909, at Postville, the daughter of Alonzo and Hazel (Harris) Folsom.

Mabel was united in marriage to Ray Simpson on April 6, 1929, at Albert Lea, Minn. They made their home on a farm between Osage and Orchard. Mabel also worked at the Osage Memorial Hospital for a time. Ray passed away in 1973.

In 1974, Mabel moved to the Minneapolis area, where she did volunteer work at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, Minn.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and various church groups.

She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and how much she loved life.

The funeral will be held at noon on Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

MASON CITY - Grace Marie Smith, 79, Mason City, died Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Grace Marie Smith was born on July 24, 1921, in Meservey, the daughter of Anton and Dena (Koenen) Boelman. She attended and received her education in the Meservey school system and also obtained her GED.

She was united in marriage to Robert L. Smith on March 21, 1943, in Albert Lea, Minn. Grace worked as a surgical aid for the Park Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Mason City for a short time and as a seamstress for Damon's Draperies in Mason City for 20 years until her retirement.

After her retirement she became an R.S.V.P. volunteer for the Washington School in Mason City, where she read and helped students with their reading.

Grace was an excellent cook, and also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and reading, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Calvary Alliance Church, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel in Manly. Inurnment will follow at the Manly Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post No. 110.

He was born June 3, 1918, in Denver, Colo., the son of John Archie and Alice (Skarpol) Bolin. After completing his education, he enlisted in the Army and worked as a cook and later as a butter maker.

Archie was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, Minn. After his discharge from the Army he worked for Winnebago Industries, and also managed several hotel/motels and restaurant businesses.

In Archie's earlier years he enjoyed showing horses. Archie was united in marriage to Shirley D. Bird on Aug. 10, 1940, in Estherville.

Upon retirement, he worked on lawnmowers and did woodworking.

Archie was a member of the American Legion Post No. 110 of Manly.

Archie is survived by his wife, Shirley D. Bolin, of Manly; son, Marc Bolin and his wife, Joan, of Bloomington, Minn.; daughters, Marcia Garnass and her husband, James, of Manly, Shari Hoffman and her husband, Loren, of Fertile, and Joni Flieth and her husband, Roger, of Mason City; sister, Alice Maddox and her husband, Earl, of Littleton, Colo.; grandchildren, Kristine Bolin, of Richfield, Minn., Erik and Leif Garnass, of Manly, Lornea Purcell, of Clear Lake, Dustin and Keegan Hoffman, of Fertile and Eli Flieth, of Mason City; two stepsisters, Cyrilla Montgomery, of San Diego, Calif. and Theresa Like, of Hadley, Minn.; one stepbrother, Ray Jacobson, of La Mesa, Calif.; one half sister, Lori Lakey and her husband, Bill, of Sante, Calif.; and three half brothers, Joe Bolin and his wife, Judy, of Alexandria, Minn., William Robert Bolin, of San Diego, Calif., and Paul Bolin and his wife, Jolene, of Payette, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clayton Bolin; one sister, Elaine Frederichs; and stepmother, Valeria Bolin.
