BEVERLY BRADEN

HAYWARD, Calif.- Beverly Braden, 71, a physical education instructor at Monroe Junior High School in the early 1950s, died in Hawaii while on a golf vacation on Nov. 11, 2000.

A Memorial service was held Nov. 28 at St. Clement's Catholic Church, Hayward, Calif.

BRITT - Carrie Luppen, 88, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Westview Care Center, Britt.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Britt, with Pastor Mitchell Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Britt, and will resume one hour before the service at the church Monday.

MASON CITY - Mary A. Hoff, 70, of 177 Winnebago Way, died Wednesday ( Feb. 14, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 417 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church, Hospice of North Iowa or the Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Mary Ann Hoff was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Sheldon, the daughter of Albert C. and Ida (Schnee) Gansemer. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1948. Following high school, she attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City.

On April 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Corman Hoff in a ceremony in Sheldon. In September 1959 they moved to Mason City, where her husband worked as an agent with the IRS. She worked for several years as a para-professional in the special education department at Mason City High School.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Elizabeth Seton Circle, former president of the Occident Club and the Bridge Club. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, visiting her grandchildren and traveling.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Susan Salz and her husband, Mike, of Algona, and Sharon Yankovich of Broken Arrow, Okla.; sons, Bil Hoff and his wife, Ardie, of Apple Valley, Minn., Tom Hoff and his wife, Sandy, of Bel Air, Md., and Jim Hoff and his wife, Jennifer Wilson, of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Katie, Emily and Rachel Salz, Jessica and Charlie Yankovich, Nicole Ashton and Jody Schwartz, and Tommy and Joey Hoff; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Corman.

CHARLES CITY - Arlene (Mrs. Lyle) Boyer, 84, a resident of 2950 140th St., died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at the Eleventh St. Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter's Cemetery at New Haven.

STACYVILLE - Dorothy T. Wageman, 86, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 7 :30 p.m. today at Visitation Catholic Church, with a rosary beginning at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Dorothy was born on June 24, 1914, in Stacyville, to Valentine and Ida (Smith) Brown.

She married Roy Wageman on Nov. 26, 1935, in Stacyville. She was a life-long resident of Stacyville. Dorothy was a member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Dorothy is survived by six sons, Robert and his wife, Juanita, of Stacyville, Daniel and his wife, Suzann, of Stacyville, James and his wife, Theresa , of St. Louis, Mo., Michael and his wife, Jill, of Bloomington, Minn., William Timothy and his wife, Rebecca, of West Branch, and Thomas and his wife, Jane, of Mason City; four daughters, Mary and her husband, Stanley Jurkowski, of Portland, Ore., Kathryn and her husband, Seppo Valppu, of Duluth, Minn., Susan and her husband, Richard Schrandt, of Caldwell, Idaho, and Joan and her husband, James Thompson, of Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Susan Wageman of Austin, Minn.; 34 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Gary; two brothers, Carl and Walter Brown; four sisters, Ann Guffy, Isabelle Keitges, Irmine Olson and Leona Neuhaus.

CHARLES CITY - James H. "Jim" Starkey, 66, of 107 Hart St., died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at home.

FRED R. DUDLEY

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Fred R. Dudley, 79, of Columbia, Mo., died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico, Mo.

Fred R. Dudley was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Jefferson County, Colorado, to Russell R. and Gladys Keuster Dudley.

The body has been donated to the University of Missouri Anatomy Department in Columbia, Mo.

Mr. Dudley was formerly married to Imogene Wilson. He served in the U.S. Navy for 19 years during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

He was a 4,500-hour volunteer at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Hospital. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 280 in Columbia. He was also a member of the American Military Society and The Retired Enlisted Association. Mr. Dudley moved to Columbia from Moberly in 1967.

He is survived by one daughter, Marie Cole, of Mason City; one son, Larry Dudley, of Littleton, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

BRITT - Opal Rust, 96, of Britt, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2001) at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

MILDRED MCGRATH

JOICE - Mildred McGrath, 81, of Joice, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Mildred V. McGrath was born Aug. 21, 1919, to Ralph and Anna (Jutting) Wirtjes, at Titonka. She attended country school, then graduated from high school in Buffalo Center. She taught country school in Buffalo Township and Linden Township.

On Dec. 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to James McGrath in the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. On Dec. 22, 2000, they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

The couple farmed in the Woden, Buffalo Center and Thompson areas until 1975, when they bought a farm near Joice.

Mildred enjoyed watching her children participate in sporting events in high school. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening and was a member of the Fertile Garden Club. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She died at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City on Feb. 15, 2001, at the age of 81 years.

She is survived by her husband, James McGrath, of Joice; a daughter-in-law, Kathy McGrath, of Mt. Ayr; two sons, Jack and his wife, Terry, of Broomfield, Colo. and Gene, of Joice; a daughter, Gloria Boggess and her husband, Lee, of Beaver Dam, Wis.; three grandsons, Patrick McGrath and his wife, Lis, of West Des Moines, Matthew Boggess, of Cedar Falls, and Danny Boggess, of Beaver Dam, Wis.; three granddaughters, Dawn Dolecheck and husband, Eric, of Ellston, Lisa McGrath, of Denver, Colo., and Kristin Boggess, of Marion; two great-granddaughters, Lindsey and Lauren McGrath of West Des Moines.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Melvin; and a son, Michael.

CARRIE LUPPEN

BRITT - Carrie Luppen, 88, of Britt, died Wednesday (Feb. 14, 2001) at theWestview Care Center in Britt.

The funeral for Carrie Luppen will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Britt, with Pastor Mitchell Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Carrie, the daughter of Hemme J. and Gepke (Carrie) Hemmen, was born May 31, 1912, in Aplington. Gepke (Carrie) Hemmen was baptized at the Butler Reformed Church in Aplington on Aug. 10, 1915. She grew up in Butler County, where she received her education. Carrie helped raise her brothers and sisters, and later moved to the Woden area, where she was employed by area families.

Carrie was united in marriage with Will Luppen at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church parsonage, on Feb. 22, 1933, by Rev. Plesscher. The couple made their home in the Kanawha area before retiring and moving to Britt in 1965.

Carrie was a former employee of Britt Tech, Hancock County Memorial Hospital and Westview Care Center; her main vocation was caring for others.

Carrie was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Britt.

Carrie is survived by one son, Bill Luppen and his wife, Janet, of Garner; two daughters, Carolyn Lamoreux and her husband, Dennis, of Britt, and Janet Sundeen and her husband, Dale, of Golden, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Will; her parents; infant son, Roger Keith; three brothers, Kobie, Heye and Hemme; three sisters, Dena VanLengen, Grace Brower and Martha Hook; two siblings in infancy; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Sundeen, Courtney Lamoreux, Eric Pendegrass and Logan Lamoreux.

BUFFALO CENTER - Selma Johanna Wessels, 95, of Lake Mills, formerly of Buffalo Center, died Thursday (Feb. 15, 2001) at Lake Mills Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with the Pastor Mary Sacco officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Selma Johanna Wessels was born Feb. 1, 1906, in Lake Mills, the daughter of John and Hilda (Thompson) Teigen. She was baptized in the Christian faith in Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and later was a member of the first confirmation class of the present Salem Lutheran Church, built in 1921.

In 1924 Selma graduated from Lake Mills High School and following graduation she taught in rural schools in Winnebago County. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls during three summer quarters.

On June 5, 1929, Selma was married to Irwin Wessels in Salem Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in the Buffalo Center area for 38 years before moving into Buffalo Center, where Irwin worked as an agent for Winnebago Farm Mutual Insurance.

In addition to being a partner with Irwin on the farm and raising four daughters, Selma was very active in the work of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center with many years of loving service.

Selma is survived by her children, Juanita of Mason City, Elaine and Donald Skaar of White Bear Lake, Minn., Clarice and Donald Stonebraker of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Diane of Garner; her grandchildren, Rebecca Garey and Sara Skaar of Brainerd, Minn., and Eric and Gail Ethier-Skaar of Seattle, Wash.; her great-grandchildren, Natasha and Jon Peden of Richfield, Minn., and Erin Garey of Fargo, N.D.; her sisters, Signe Kellums and Mildred Spiker of Simi, Calif., and Ruth McKee of Spokane, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irwin, in 1955; sisters, Doris Boise, Florence Teigen and Gilma Teigen; and brothers, Hans, Benhart, Joseph, Ernest and Milton Teigen.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Irene M. Wildebor, 81, of 19023 N. 22nd Drive, formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday (Feb. 13, 2001) at Arrowhead Community Hospital, Glendale, Ariz.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Paul Finger of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Irene was born June 11, 1919, in Swaledale, the daughter of Ralph L. and Marie C. (Jensen) Ward. She moved with her family to Mason City at an early age and attended school here.

She married Virgil Snyder Feb. 12, 1938. Her first husband died and she married Elmer L. Wildebor on Jan. 15, 1951.

Irene worked in the grocery business and tended bar in Mason City for many years.

She was a charter member of the Eagles Lodge, a member of the Moose and the Moose Bowling Team. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the Senior Citizens Center.

Irene is survived by a daughter, Shirley M. Huff and her husband, William, of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first and second husband; two sisters, Betty Lou and Lorraine; a daughter, Susan L. Engleman; and one brother, Robert Ward.

NORA SPRINGS - Ronald Eugene Jurasek, 67, died (Feb. 9, 2001) at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs with Pastor Ruth Hansen officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.

Ronald was born Sept. 12, 1933, in Mason City, the son of Frank and Frances (Martykan) Jurasek. Ronald received his education in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School in 1951.

He served with the U. S. Army from 1953 to 1955 when he returned to Mason City following his discharge. He then began working for Decker Meat-Packing Company and later for Armour Foods Company.

On Dec. 29, 1956, Ronald was united in marriage with Joanne Van Riper at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

Ron collected antiques and enjoyed attending many auctions throughout the area. He also enjoyed fishing and trapping and was an original member of the Iowa Trappers Association.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Joanne, at the family home; one daughter, Joan Ronda (Robert) Prevete of Plainview, N.Y.; one brother, Jerry (Viola) Jurasek of Mason City; one grandson, Robert Paul Prevete of Plainview, N.Y.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Delbert and Verlaine Spurgeon of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; two aunts; one uncle; three nieces; one nephew; and two cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.

Jane M. Moore was born July 2, 1902, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Adams) Myers.

Jane married William Dewey Moore on Feb. 15, 1923. The couple farmed near Dows and Hampton until retiring in 1969 and moving into Hampton.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Hampton and became a resident of Hampton Health Care Center in December 2000.

Jane is survived by one daughter, Dorothy and her husband, William E. Trafford, of Mesa, Ariz.; four sons, William J. and his wife, Mary, of Mason City, Richard W. and his wife, Lisa, of Independence, Eldon L. and his wife, Monica, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Larry K and his wife, Janis, of Waterloo; one sister, Alberta Kennedy of Hot Springs, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

VENTURA - Robert Norman Anderson, 85, died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) at Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller with the Rev. Owen Gaasedelen officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Ellington Prairie Cemetery.

Robert Norman Anderson, the son of Elmer and Bertha (Hall) Anderson, was born June 15, 1915, on the Anderson farm near Ventura. He was baptized and confirmed at Ellington Prairie Lutheran Church. Norm graduated from Ventura High School in 1933 and attended Waldorf College.

In December of 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, which later became the U.S. Air Force, where he was a Link Trainer Instructor teaching instrument flying. During his Air Force years, he was stationed in Texas, Maine, Virginia, South Carolina and Kansas. After returning home from the service, he worked for the Northern Natural Gas Company.

On Aug. 29, 1942, he married Dorothy Greimann at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. He farmed the Anderson farm northwest of Ventura from 1947 to 1997 when he retired.

Robert was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on the church council. Norm's pastimes were hunting, fishing and attending school activities in which his children and grandchildren participated. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Ventura; six children, Carolyn Luscomb and her husband, David, of Clear Lake, and their three children, Brett, Jody and Andrew and his wife, Rachael, Robert Anderson Jr. and his wife, Maria, of Forest City, and their five children, Christina, Robert III, Alan, Ryan and Aaron, Jacqueline Mathewson and her husband, Robert, of Littleton, Colo., and their two children, Brian and Kimberly, Thomas Anderson and his wife, Kathy, of Tempe, Ariz., and their four children, Eric, Karis, Justin and Mark, Jill Schultz and her husband, Steven, of Coralville, and their son, Jonathan, and Gregory Anderson and his wife, Julie, of Edina, Minn., and their three children, Scott, Katherine and Margaret; a sister, Carrie Greiman and her husband, Bernard, of Garner; and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Anderson of Ventura and Eva Hall of Sioux City.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lester, Earl and Burt Anderson; and two granddaughters, Allison and Emily Anderson.

LESTER H. KOCK

ROCKFORD - Lester H. Kock, 86, of 304 Second Ave. N.W., died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford with Pastor Clarence Baalson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Lester Harold Kock was born May 18, 1914, in rural Rockford, Floyd County, a son of William and Helen (Menken) Kock.

He received his education in the rural schools near Rockford, and as a young man started working on the family farm. He later farmed on his own in the Rockford and Rudd area.

On May 18, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Pearl Bowen at the family home in Rockford. They farmed south of Rockford until 1957 when he became employed at the lumber yard at Osage. He was later employed by the Rockford Lumber Yard and the Rockford Elevator. He was last employed as a custodian for the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock School District in Rockford until his retirement in 1973.

Lester was a charter member of the Rockford Senior Citizens and donated many volunteer hours to community projects and delivering meals. He enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Citizen Center and playing 500 and pitching horse shoes.

He will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Those thankful for having shared his life are his loving wife of 62 years, Esther Kock of Liebe Care Center, Greene; two daughters, Kathryn and her husband, Joe Gibbs, of Garner, and Marilyn Parcher of Clear Lake; three sons and their spouses, Harold and Mary Kock of Greene, Dean and Jackie Kock of Nora Springs, and Steven and Carol Kock of Kirtland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lester was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Kock in 1957; two sons-in-law, Nick Parcher and Roger Hrubes; his parents; and two brothers, Harry and Robert Kock.

Monica was born Aug. 10, 1903,in rural Worth County, the daughter of George and Amy (Ryan) Smith.

She received her education at St. Vincent Academy in Dubuque and then earned her normal teachers training in Cedar Falls.

Monica was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Frances O'Keefe, of Minneapolis; two brothers, Bernard and Robert (Norma) Smith, of Manly, Iowa; and one sister, Mary Smith, also of Manly; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Albert Franklin Carlson was born on Nov. 30, 1923, in Hackensack, Minn., the son of Arne and Selma (Johnson) Carlson. He attended and received his education in the Hackensack school system.

After completing his schooling he moved to California working in the shipyards, before moving back to Mason City, working for Armour's Meat Packing Company for 32 years until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Janet Paulsen on May 13, 1999, in Mason City.

He enjoyed collecting records and tapes, rebuilding small engines, traveling, gardening, planting evergreens, taking care of his orchards and visiting with family and friends.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City and was a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet Carlson, of Mason City; his mother-in-law, Ilona Paulsen, of Mason City; a brother, Walter Carlson and his wife, Sylvia, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; three brothers-in-law, Gary Paulsen and his wife, Sandra, of Mason City, and John Paulsen and his wife, Mary, of Mason City, and Elston Factor and his wife Helena of Plymouth.

Francis was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Mason City, the son of Frank and Genevieve (Plum) Murphy.

After graduating from Mason City High School, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Paul on Feb. 24, 1951, at the First Christian Church in Mason City. Murph worked all his life as a salesman in the retail and insurance industries, including the 12 years the family lived in Milwaukee, Wis., beginning in 1965. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a former member of the Mason City Moose Lodge, and a lifetime member of the Mason City Elks Lodge #375.

Francis is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Mason City; a daughter, Kathleen Helgren, her husband, John, and their son, Joel, all of Mason City; a son, Greg Murphy and his special friend, Nancy Seeger, of Hubertus, Wis., Greg's children, Casey Murphy of Sussex, Wis. and Kelli Brown, her husband, Rob, and their daughter, Jazmyn, of Butler, Wis.; a brother, Ron Murphy of Milton, W.Va.; one nephew of Columbus, Ohio, and one nephew and two nieces of West Virginia.

Daniel was born on Aug. 24, 1944, the only son of five children born to Donald and Marcella "Holub" Grant. He attended school in Mason City and then joined the Army in 1960 where he finished his schooling. Daniel was honorably discharged from the service in 1964.

He was united in marriage to Bernice Mikkelsen on Dec. 31, 1966, at the Salvation Army Church in Pontiac, Michigan. To this union were born four children. For the next five years they made their home there and he was a carrier for the United States Postal Service.

In 1971 they returned to Mason City where he was employed at various jobs in North Iowa including at Winnebago, Clear Lake Bakery, the Salvation Army, Domino's Pizza, and Gerard of Iowa. He was currently employed as a transit driver for the city of Mason City.

He loved his grandbabies, cross- word puzzles, and watching game shows. He never met a stranger and had a keen knack with people, making them feel right at home.

Those thankful in sharing Daniel's life include his wife of 34 years, Bernice; two daughters, Michelle and her husband, Ray Hancock, of Urbandale, and Christina and her husband, John Crom; two sons, Daniel "JR" and his wife, Heidi Grant Jr. and Jeffery Grant, all of Mason City; four grandchildren, Samantha Hancock, Brittnee Crom, Cassandra Hoveland, and Savanna Grant; four sisters, Donna and her husband, Maynard Kaduce, Sue and her husband, Howard Nash, Frankie and her late husband, Gary Knajdek, all of Michigan, and Tammy and her husband, Mike Herzog, of Minnesota.

Evelyn Marie Schoneman was born on July 8, 1920, in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, to Theresa Johanna Wilhelmine Ahlf and Herman Gustav Ernest Eske. She was baptized Aug. 22, 1920, by the Rev. Gemaehlich and confirmed on April 14, 1935, by the Rev. C. Kumtf.

Evelyn married William Theral Schoneman on June 1, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union two sons were born, Randall David and Kenneth Dean.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of St. John's and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She enjoyed visits by friends and enjoyed gardening. Evelyn appreciated the care she received from the Mitchell County Home Health Care and from Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1988, and one son, Randall in 1970.

Evelyn is survived by one son, Kenneth, of St. Ansgar.

Alma Frances Brouwer, the daughter of Michael Peter and Sorine Marie (Steffensen) Jacobsen, was born Nov. 18, 1919, at Garner. She attended school at Garner where she graduated from high school in 1937.

On Feb. 24, 1938, she was married to Richard "Bud" Brouwer at the home of Ben V. and Iris Greiman in Garner. They farmed southwest of Garner until retiring in 1980. Alma also worked as a secretary at the Garner-Hayfield Middle School from 1965 to 1984.

She enjoyed her family, golfing, fishing, playing cards and was active on the political scene as a member of the Democratic Party. Alma always looked forward to her high school class reunion which was celebrated every year since graduating.

Alma was a member of Peace Reformed Church since 1938 where she taught Sunday School, belonged to the Ladies Aid and was an officer of the Ladies Missionary Society. She was also a member of Homemakers Club, Community Theatre, Garner Country Club and was a life-time member of Slippery Elm Country Club in Klemme.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Brouwer and his wife, Kay, of Burlington, and their two children, Mark Brouwer and his wife, Anne, and Beth Brouwer and her son, Carson, and James Brouwer and his wife, Cherry, of Bemidji, Minn. and their son, Andrew Brouwer and his wife, Pam, and their two sons, Josh and Jacob; and a brother, Egon Jacobsen and his wife, Margaret Ann of Marshalltown.
