HAMPTON - Marjorie J. Thielen, 77, of Hampton, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

RENWICK - Olena Heggen, 94, of Renwick, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Lake Lutheran Church in rural Goldfield, with the Rev. Sandy Krynik officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

ALLISON - Erma Irene Woodley, 93, of Allison, died Monday (July 30, 2001) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Bristow United Church of Christ in Bristow, with the Rev. Sam Benjamin and Glenn Bandel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, rural Bristow.

CHARLES CITY - Carl F. Hauser, 89, of 204 Glenwood Road, died Tuesday (July 31, 2001) at his home.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Charles City, with Sister Jennifer Rausch, PBVM, pastoral associate of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Rev. Gale Richards, pastor of the Colwell United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, and continue one hour before services at the church.

HELEN C. TRICKLE

MASON CITY - Helen C. Trickle, 94, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Sunday (July 29, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W. in Mason City, with the Rev. Sarah Odoom officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour before services on Thursday at the church.

Helen Trickle was born Oct. 29, 1906, at Wells, Kan., a daughter of Axel and Caroline (Olson) Vesterberg. She attended schools in Wells, Kan. and business college in Salina, Kan.

She was married to Roy Trickle on March 19, 1930, at Luray, Kan. The family moved to Mason City in March 1938. She worked for Mason City Tent & Awning for many years and later worked at Monroe Junior High School until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and active in church circles.

Survivors include two daughters, Esther Helen Hanson, of Mountain Home, Ark., and Mary Katheryn Ferleman and her husband, Tom, of Albert Lea, Minn.; four grandchildren, Gary Hanson and his wife, Alyce, of Albert Lea, Minn., Larry Hanson and his wife, Kathie, of Albert Lea, Minn., Sheila Thomas and her husband, Greg, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Tom Ferleman and his wife, Rebecca, of Gaithersburg, Md.; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Brittany, Derek, Stacie, Grace, Riana and Andrew; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, one brother and one son-in-law.

VIONA ALVINA WELHOUSEN

TITONKA - The funeral for Viona Alvina Welhousen, 81, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka, with Pastor Jim Berka officiating. Interment will be in Good Hope Cemetery in Titonka.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Titonka.

Viona Alvina Welhousen was born on July 28, 1920, in Titonka, the daughter of Evert and Anna Kettwich Post. She received her education at a country school in the Titonka area. After her schooling she lived at home on the farm with her parents.

On Sept. 5, 1951, Viona was united in marriage to Wilbur Welhousen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm northwest of Titonka, where they lived until Wilbur died on June 6, 1965.

Viona and her daughter, Beverly, moved into Titonka. Viona worked in the dietary department of the Titonka School and the Titonka Care Center.

She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, as well as being in her home sewing and baking.

Viona was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka.

Viona died on Saturday (July 28, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 81.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly and her husband, Les Trampel, of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Bret and Alyssa Ennen, of Clear Lake; brothers, Melvin Post and his wife, Berneice, of Algona, Art Post and his wife, Marvella, of Titonka, Erwin Post and his wife, Troyce, of Titonka; and a sister, Berneice and her husband, DeWayne Maass, of Lakota; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Wilbur.

PAUL NATHANIEL JENN

BRITT - Paul Nathaniel Jenn, 25, of West Branch, formerly of Britt, died Saturday (July 28, 2001) as a result of a motor vehicle accident north of Ventura.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the West Hancock High School in Britt, with Pastor Brooks Simpson and Pastor Chuck Walton officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Friends may greet the family from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour before services at the high school.

Paul, the son of John and Lucinda (Hagedorn) Jenn, was born July 11, 1976, in Sac City. The Jenn family later moved to Britt, where Paul attended the Britt grade school and graduated from West Hancock High School in 1995. Paul attended Iowa Central Community College and then transferred to the University of Iowa.

Paul was united in marriage with Angela Abels on Aug. 1, 1998, in Kanawha. The couple lived in the Iowa City area, while Paul attended the University of Iowa. He wrestled for the Hawkeyes from 1997-2000 and placed fourth at the Big 10 meet as a junior and sixth as a sophomore.

Paul graduated from the University of Iowa in May of 2000, and received his teaching certification in May of 2001. He was to have taught physics at Mason City High School in the fall of 2001.

In 1984 Paul became a born-again Christian by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He worked extensively with wrestling camps and spoke to youth groups sharing his Christian testimony. Paul was a very caring young man who continued giving of himself as a tissue donor following his death.

Paul is survived by his wife, Angela, of West Branch; his parents, John Jenn of Britt, and Lucinda McClellan and her husband, Clifford, of Temple, Texas; one brother, Stephen Jenn and his children, Jeff, Brady and Cheree Jenn of Garner; two sisters, Laurel Thomas and her husband, Jon, of Manassas, Va., and Kristin Jenn of Britt.

EVELYN B. BEARD

MOLINE, Ill. - Evelyn B. Beard, 84, of Moline, Ill., died Sunday (July 29, 2001) at her residence.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Trimble Funeral Home in Moline. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

The former Evelyn Bessie Day was born May 22, 1917, in Charles City, the daughter of Clarence and Edna (Dodd) Day. She married Harry L. Beard on April 12, 1936, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1997.

Evelyn was a bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Moline for 20 years before retiring in 1979.

She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Nora Springs, I and I Treasure Club, the Moline Conservation Club, Isaak Walton League and the Giant Goose Conservation Club. Evelyn also enjoyed quilting.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jean Beard, of Chama, N.M.; a sister, Carline Billick, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Carroll and Harley Day; and a sister, Clarabell Day.

GLENN D. KIRCHNER

DECORAH - Glenn D. Kirchner, 69, of Decorah, died on Monday (July 30, 2001) at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, after a lengthy illness.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, with the Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery in Decorah, with full military rites at the graveside by the Helof Holm VFW Chapter No. 1977.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, with a VFW Memorial service at 6 p.m., a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. There will be additional visitation from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Glenn Dale Kirchner was born on Feb. 22, 1932, the son of Charles and Maude (Haag) Kirchner in Taopi, Minn. Glenn moved with his family to Ostrander, Minn., and Austin, Minn., and then to Manly, where he attended school.

Glenn served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1951-55. He married Dolly Doocy on June 6, 1959, in Manly.

Glenn worked for AMPI for 12 years in Mason City before moving to Decorah in 1972. He then worked for the Decorah Creamery until he retired in 1995.

Glenn was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council and as an usher. Glenn was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served as grand knight for two years. He helped support the Decorah Kilties and the Nordic Dancers and was a faithful sports fan.

When Glen retired he enjoyed golfing and fishing and especially the time spent with his grandchildren.

Glenn's survivors include his wife, Dolly Kirchner, of Decorah; two daughters, Glenda Moen and her husband, Paul, of Hudson, Wis. and Kaleen Hanson and her husband, Bruce, of Waukon; three sons, Steven Kirchner and his wife, Tessa, of Vail, Colo., David Kirchner and his wife, Laura, of Decorah, and Michael Kirchner, of Rochester, Minn.; his mother, Maude (Kirchner) Pruisman, of Decorah; six grandchildren, Aaron, Mackenzie and Madeline Moen, Kylie Hanson, and Canon and Berit Kirchner; four brothers-in-law, Darvin Hacker, of Decorah, Ron "Red" Eckhardt, of Mason City, Con Doocy, of Mason City, and Armond Doocy, of Duluth, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Charles Kirchner; step-father, Klaas Pruisman; and three sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Hacker, LaDonna Eckhardt and Rhonda Kirchner.

ANGELA M. DESPENAS

MASON CITY - Angela M. Despenas, 44, of 1008 First St. N.W., died Monday (July 30, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with Pastor Mark Luckiesh of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Angela was born July 15, 1957, in Mason City, the daughter of Joanne (Kunz) Dailey. She attended Mason City public schools and worked for a short time at Alexander Batteries.

Angela was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed writing letters to her friends and constantly remodeling and redecorating her house.

Angela will be greatly missed by her mother, Joanne Dailey, of Mason City; five children, Toni Torres, and her special friend, Paul Rowe, of Mason City, Erik Torres and his special friend, Tara Northrup, of Mason City, Shad Arispe and his special friend, Casey Boyd, of Elk River, Minn., Noah Arispe, of Elk River, Minn., and Angelica Despenas, of Mason City; and one grandson, Alek Torres.

MARCEL 'PETE' LLOYD MOLSBERRY

MASON CITY - Marcel "Pete" Lloyd Molsberry, 98, Mason City, formerly of Plymouth, died Monday (July 30, 2001) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

His funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, with a public scripture wake service at 6 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street in Manly.

The family of Marcel "Pete" Lloyd Molsberry has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth, or to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.

Marcel "Pete" Lloyd Molsberry was born on March 1, 1903, in Worth County, near Plymouth, the son of Jesse John and Mary (Albrecht) Molsberry. He attended and received his education in the Plymouth school system.

After completing his schooling he began farming north of Plymouth, and was also co-owner with Boyd Hodson of the Plymouth and Manly Roller Rink.

He was united in marriage to Mabel Susan Bosold on July 16, 1930, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. Mabel preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 1998.

After their marriage they continued to farm on the family farm north of Plymouth, until moving into Plymouth in 1978. They lived in Plymouth until moving to the Willows in Mason City in 1996, and in 1998 they moved to the Willow Pointe in Mason City.

Pete enjoyed playing baseball in high school, fishing and farming. He also was very active at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth, and was instrumental in the upgrading of the church in the 1940s. He also was on the Plymouth School Board for several years, and was a school bus driver in Plymouth.

Pete was always willing to help others, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and made sure that his family made it to their activities while growing up.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth, and was a life member and 3rd degree Knights of Columbus member in Osage.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Mary Borchardt, of Webster City, Jeanne Kelsh and her husband, Tom, of Plainfield, Ill., and John Molsberry and his wife, Bonnie, of Kirkland, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides his wife; his parents; a daughter, Ann Holmes; two brothers, Frank H. and Art Molsberry; and a sister, Monica Mitze, also preceded him in death.

Hazelle was born April 2, 1911, in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Christine (Mankey) Mayo. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1929 and went on to receive her Normal teachers training. She taught school at the Sugar Beet School north of Mason City for a few years.

Hazelle married Martin E. Tagesen on Jan. 2, 1934, in Galena, Ill.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active at the Kinney Pioneer Museum where she was a former board member.

She collected dolls, which are displayed at the museum, enjoyed quilting and ceramics. Hazelle enjoyed life but most importantly her family meant everything to her.

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd M. Tagesen and his wife, Marilyn, of Hampton, and Ralph M. "Butch" Tagesen and his wife, Fran, of Clear Lake; two daughters, Marie True of Geneva, Neb., and Mary Ann Chapin and husband, Gary, of Geneva, Neb.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Hazelle was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters; and a daughter, Virginia.

CLEAR LAKE - Evelyn Ann Kliegl Plonsky, 72, died July 14, 2001 in Indiana.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Ave. S., Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Inurnment service will be held at St. Joseph-Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with a Scripture rosary service at 7 p.m. According to her wishes, the body has been cremated.

Evelyn was born Dec. 31, 1928, in Cylinder, in her home, the daughter of George and Pauline (Lena) DeBri Kliegl. She graduated from Cylinder High School and continued her education at the Hamilton School of Commerce (Hamilton Business College) in Mason City.

She married John F. Plonsky of Mason City, on Jan. 31, 1951. Evelyn lived in Cedar Falls for 12 years and Tucson, Ariz., for 16 years before moving to Des Moines. She also lived in Mason City, Hampton and Graettinger before residing with her daughter and family in Carmel, Ind.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Karen Kiefer and her husband, Daniel, of Carmel, Ind.; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Joseph and Patrick; one sister, Juanita Kelly of Buhl, Idaho; two brothers, Eugene Kliegl of Farewell Bend, Ore., and Richard Kliegl of Webster City.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Dorothy Beck; and two brothers, George Kliegl and Lloyd Kliegl.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating.

Friends may call from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion where there will be a parish vigil wake service at 4:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary recited at 5 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Robert R. McCool was born at St. Paul, Minn., on Nov. 26, 1921, to John L. and Rose (Cummings) McCool. He was a graduate of St. Thomas University in St. Paul, also of St. Louis University Medical School in St. Louis.

He was married to Betty (Kitty) Higgins on Aug. 4, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was a Veteran of World War II where he achieved the rank of captain. He was a member of the American Legion Post #246 of Clarion, an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Lions Club.

Dr. McCool practiced family medicine in Clarion from 1952 to 1985. After retirement he continued his service to mankind by volunteering his service in Third World countries. Most recently he established one of the first free medical clinics in Iowa, the Clarion Free Clinic.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Dr. Robert McCool Memorial Fund at the First Citizens National Bank in Clarion.

Dr. McCool is survived by his wife, Kitty McCool, of Clarion; five sons, Patrick and wife, Kathryn, McCool of Lino Lakes, Minn., Terrence and wife, Cathy, McCool of Maple Grove, Minn., Thomas and wife, Lynette, McCool of Wausau, Wis., Michael and wife, Diane, McCool of Bettendorf, and Daniel and wife, Diane, McCool of West Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and one brother, John C. McCool, of Akron, Ohio.

Dr. McCool was preceded in death by his parents.

DEANA LOIS CLARK

ROCKWELL - Deana Lois (Mrs. Melvin) Clark, 88, formerly of 607 East Main Street, Rockwell, died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

The funeral service of Deana Clark will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce E. Wittern officiating. Burial will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 Third St. S., Rockwell, and visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Clark, the former Deana Lois Nelsen, was born Aug. 25, 1912, in rural Rockwell, the daughter of Fred and Susie L. (Maxwell) Nelsen. She graduated from the Rockwell Community High School. She then enrolled in the former Park Hospital School of Nursing in Mason City, from which she received her RN degree.

On Oct. 20, 1934, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Sheffield, Deana was united in marriage to Melvin Russell Clark. Mr. Clark died on Oct. 15, 2000, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

For 18 years, Mrs. Clark served as a registered nurse with what was the Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

Deana was a member of the Rockwell United Methodist Church and the church's United Methodist Women's group. She extended her ministry in nursing by accompanying the church's pastors in home visits and to assist in serving communion.

Mrs. Clark kept in close contact with the ill and the homebound, and used her nursing skills to assist them. In her spare time, Deana enjoyed gardening. For more than six years Deana dearly enjoyed the trips she and Melvin would take to Arizona.

Those thankful for sharing in Deana's life are her two children, Sharon Sawyer of St. Paul, Minn., and Kenneth Clark and his wife, Karen, of Burchinal; five grandchildren, Lisa Sawyer, Suzanne Sawyer, Timothy Clark, Kim Marie Clark and Kathy Luther; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, two sisters, Eva Sanders and Ruth Geer; and an adopted sister, Ethel Brown, preceded Deana in death.

JAMES A. ERICKSON

FOREST CITY - James A. Erickson was born on a farm in Crystal Valley Township, Hancock County, on Dec. 18, 1920, the son of Martin and Jennie (Nonnweiler) Erickson.

He received his education in rural school and attended Forest City High School. During World War II, he served in the European Theater with the United States Army, from 1942 to 1946. After his discharge from the service he made his home in Forest City. He worked as a farm hand, drove truck and was employed by the city.

Jim enjoyed fishing and sporting events. He took good care of his mother as she grew older and he loved spending time with his family.

He died at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, on Aug. 3, 2001 at the age of 80 years.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Erickson and his wife, Ione, of Forest City; seven nieces: Kathy Kirkwood, of Butler, Pa., Carol Shirk, of Forest City, Julie Olson, of Thompson, Linda Severson, of Forest City, Sheila Finer, of Lake Mills, Jenifer Thayer, of Emmetsburg, and Amy Faulkner of Tiffin; a nephew, Fred Fraizer, of Thompson, and 14 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Kathryn Boman and Norma Fraizer and a grand-nephew, Jared Kirkwood.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., in Forest City with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

DORIS EVELYN (JOHNSON) BACK

KLEMME - Doris Evelyn (Johnson) Back, the daughter of John Agard and Hilma (Arvidsson) Johnson was born August 22, 1921, at Klemme, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Graydon Back on May 27, 1949, at Klemme, Iowa. Doris worked at Larson's Grocery Store in Klemme and the United States Post Office in Klemme. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, the United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She died on Friday, August 3, 2001 at her home in Klemme.

Those thankful for sharing in her life are her daughters, Becky Tosel and her husband, Steve, of Mason City, Mary Balek and her husband, Terry, of Mason City; grandchildren, Kimberly, Kerrill, Kathryn and Krista Balek, and Timothy and Ann Tosel; one sister, Ethel Steffen, of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Charlene Back, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Graydon in 1989, grandsons, Nicholas and John Tosel, brothers, Fridolph Johnson, and Harold Johnson, sisters, Bertha Johnson, and Ruth Carson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Klemme, with Pastor Paddy Druhl, officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Tenold Funeral Home in Klemme and at the church one hour prior to services.
