LOIS A. LYMAN

HAMPTON - Lois A. Lyman, 79, of 117 Fourth Ave. N.W., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Pastor David Nelson of the Church of Christ, Hampton, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and will resume Tuesday morning until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society-Franklin County.

Lois was born March 31, 1922, in Ames, the daughter of Arlo E. and Florence M. (Titus) Burns. Her family moved to Sheffield where she attended school. She moved with her family to Hampton in 1937.

Lois married Richard Lyman Nov. 6, 1948, in Mason City. She resided in Mason City until she moved to Hampton in 1991.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, canning, crafts, gardening, fishing, camping and her children and grandchildren.

Lois is survived by a daughter, Peggy Holze and her husband, Richard, of Hampton; a son, Michael Fielding and his wife, Bonnie, of Hampton; a stepson, Gary Lyman and his wife, Lynn, of Minneapolis; a stepdaughter, Judy Radamacher and her husband, Mike, of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bonnie Rodberg of Mason City, Earla Carrott of Mason City and Gaynelle Hofmaster of Faribault, Minn.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandchild, Vince Fielding; two brothers, Dale and Lee; four sisters, Margaret, Letha, Dixie and Nancy.

ALLYN C. BRINK

LUVERNE - Allyn C. Brink, 83, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, LuVerne, with the Rev. Dale Reisner officiating. There will be a private family committal at LuVerne Cemetery before the memorial service.

MASON CITY - Phyllis R. Bruns, 79, of 923 N. Tyler, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at her home.

ALGONA - Nina A. Treganza, 75, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Mercy Health Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Forest Hill Cemetery, Owatonna, Minn.

MARBLE ROCK - Robert Nash, 79, formerly of Allerton, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock, with Pastor Rob Metras officiating.

GLENN O. EMMONS

NORTHWOOD - Glenn O. Emmons, 86, of Northwood, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at his home in Northwood.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Lutheran Church, 309 No. Ninth St. in Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer and the Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood with military graveside honors by "Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services today at the church.

The family of Glenn O. Emmons has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Church in Northwood in his memory.

Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.

Glenn O. Emmons was born on March 15, 1915, in Emmons, Minn. the son of Henry and Ingeborg (Helland) Emmons, and was the last surviving grandchild of the founder of the community of Emmons. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Emmons Lutheran Church.

He attended and received his education in the Emmons School system, graduating from Lake Mills High School. He also attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Morris, Minn., receiving his degree in business. He also attended Wake Forest College in North Carolina.

After completing his schooling he worked as a bank examiner. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on March 6, 1942 at Ft. Des Moines and served in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theater in India and at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. in the finance company during World War II until his honorable discharge on Jan. 10, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wis.

He was united in marriage to Suzanne Durovcik on Jan. 26, 1946 in Bonne Terre, Mo. After their marriage he worked as a cashier at the bank in Emmons.

Glenn was the Chief Executive Officer for the Northwood State Bank from 1966 until his retirement. He also was on the board of directors at the bank from 1983, until 1999.

He enjoyed music, golf, and woodworking, but his great love and enjoyment was his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood and former usher at the church, "Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779, of Northwood, Northwood Country Club member, and former board member of the Northwood Development Corporation.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sue Emmons, of Northwood, two children, Dr. Henry Emmons and his wife, Jane, of Northfield, Minn., and a daughter, Glenda Strieter and her husband, Tom, of Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren, Matthew Strieter, Angela Strieter, Eric Emmons, Laura Strieter, and Mark Emmons; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

His parents; five brothers, Harry, Lawrence, Raymond, Eskel and Henry "Babe" Emmons; and one sister, Karine Arneson, preceded him in death.

SHEFFIELD - The funeral for Dorothy A. Schoning, 68, of Sheffield, who died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at her home will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield, with Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

CLARION - Madeline Henely, 97, of Clarion, died Sunday (April 15, 2001) at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion.

MOLLY M. HISCOCKS

BRITT - Molly M. Hiscocks, 35, was called home to glory on Saturday (April 14, 2001) . She was at home with loved ones by her side.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church of Britt, with Pastor Pat Nemmers of Saylorville Baptist Church in Des Moines conducting the service assisted by Pastor Pete Schmidlkofer offociating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Algona.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ewing Funeral Home, 178 Center St. West in Britt.

Molly was born on Dec. 6, 1965 in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School in 1984 and from Iowa State University in 1988 with a BS in Elementary Education.

Molly was united in marriage with Donald Hiscocks on Aug. 19, 1989 in Algona. They lived in Bloomington, Minn. while Don finished school. The couple moved to Mason City for a year and then to Wichita, Kan.

Molly taught second grade for two years until she and Don moved back home to Britt.

Molly was born again on Sept. 15, 1997, in Britt, when she placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was baptized on Nov. 30, 1997 at Holmes Baptist Church. Molly's strong faith, and God's faithfulness in her life, was evident to all who knew her and was her comfort and hope as she battled cancer.

Molly was a member of the Britt Evangelical Free Church, a PEO member, a trustee on the Britt Library Board, and an avid collector of Longaberger baskets.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dr. Donald R. Hiscocks; her children, Emma, Charles, and Andrew, all of Britt; her parents, J. Terry and DeAnne McGuire of Algona; her brothers, Jack McGuire and his wife, Amy, of Algona, Doug McGuire, of Whittemore, and Ryan McGuire and his wife, Melissa, of West Bend; her grandparents, Pastor Paul and Leona Bussert, of Spencer, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

Molly was preceded in death by her Grandparents, John and Zelda McGuire, her Grandpa, Stanley Douglas; and her mother-in-law, Beverly Hiscocks.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the West Hancock Scholarship Fund in Molly's memory.

Phyllis married Lee V. Bruns in 1950 in Freeport, Ill. She was a lifelong resident of Mason City and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her son, Terry Lee Bruns, of Mason City; one brother, Kermit Hanschu and his wife, Aleen, of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Clarice Stenby, of Los Angeles, Calif., Gerald Eads, of Hobbs, N.M., and Rosine Garrison and her husband, Howard, of Brownsville, Texas.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.

MURIEL ARNEVIK

LAKE MILLS - Muriel Arnevik, 61, formerly of Thompson, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, with the Rev. Mark Decker officiating. Burial will be at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 209 N. Washington in Lake Mills.

Muriel Kay Arnevik was born Jan. 30, 1940, to Obert and Stella (Tveit ) Quisling, of rural Lake Mills, Iowa, where she grew up on the same farm where her parents still reside. She attended Lake Mills High School and attended North Iowa Area Community college in Mason City, Iowa.

Muriel married Jerry Arnevik in 1956, to which union three sons were born. They lived and farmed near Thompson. She was employed at the REC in Thompson for nine years. In 1986, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she was employed at H. M. Theo and Associates for 14 years as office manager. Muriel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson. She enjoyed sports, spending time with her many friends and was known for her baking, flowers and homemaking abilities. Even though she lived far away, she came home fairly often to visit. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were treasures to her, and she spent as much time as she could with them. Muriel passed away Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

She is survived by her beloved partner, Tom Anthony of Las Vegas, Nev.; her parents, Obert and Stella Quisling, of Lake Mills; two sons, Daniel and his wife, Lonnie Arnevik; Bradley and his wife Holly Arnevik, all of Thompson; one daughter-in-law, Mary McEuen, of Chesterfield, Mo.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Arnevik, Madeline and Lexie Arnevik, Tena and Melissa Arnevik; and one great-grandson, Tyler; one brother, Ron and his wife, Kris Quisling, of Kalamazoo, Mich. and their children, Heather and her husband Andy Farrar, Jim, John and Bill Quisling; foreign exchange son, Torstein Schee and his family from Norway; along with several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Muriel was preceded in death by one son, Scott Arnevik in 1990.

DOROTHY A. SCHONING

SHEFFIELD - Dorothy A. Schoning, 68, of Sheffield, died on Sunday (April 15, 2001) at home surrounded by her family.

Dorothy Ann (Schroeder) Schoning was born May 23, 1932, at home on the family farm east of Sheffield to Albert and Lenora (Bielefeld) Schroeder. She attended Westfork Country School until the 8th grade, then graduated from Sheffield High School in 1950.

On July 19, 1953, Dorothy was united in marriage with classmate, Louis Carl Schoning at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield.

Dorothy worked for three years at Hershey's Grocery in Sheffield. She enjoyed flowers and sold them from her farm home for several years and in 1979 moved her shop, D's Flowers, into Sheffield where it remained for 18 years.

For 15 years she wrote for the local notes for Westfork Township in the Sheffield Press and the Hampton Chronicle. She was a Sunday School teacher for Zion- St. John Lutheran Church for 15 years and was past president of the Women's Circle.

She also sold Avon for 15 years and had amassed quite a collection of Avon collectibles. She was a past member of the Sheffield Merchants Club, Sheffield Cemetery Society and What's New Club.

For many years Dorothy took care of the Christmas tree decorations for downtown Sheffield.

Dorothy enjoyed playing cards with the same member of their card club for 45 years. Enjoyment also came through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 47 years, Louis; son, Gary Schoning and his wife, Linda, of Sheffield; son, Greg Schoning and wife, Sue, of Arnolds Park; daughter, Diane Duzenbury and husband, Rich, of Panora; son, David Schoning, of Sheffield; daughter-in-law, Shayne Schoning, of Sheffield; grandchildren, Kaci Harper and Amy Schoning, Michaela, Megan and Hanna Schoning, Brandon and Stephen Schoning; stepgrandchildren, Christopher and Lisa Johnson; great-granddaughters, Samantha and Madisyn Harper; stepgreat-grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Darlene, in infancy.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.

CHARLES W. 'PETE' POPE

MASON CITY - Charles W. "Pete" Pope, 68 of 693 Third St. S.E., died Monday (April 16, 2001) at Muse-Norris Hospice In-patient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Memorials in Pete's memory may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Charles William Pope was born Aug. 1, 1932, at Sheffield, a son of Elmer and Velma (Fuller) Pope. He attended Sheffield schools, graduating in 1949 from Sheffield High School.

Pete served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, receiving the China Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He later served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

He married Palma Zoe Pullen at Sheffield on Aug. 3, 1957. From 1949-81 he worked at Jacob E. Decker & Sons/Armour. Following his retirement he worked for Green Leaf Wholesale Floral, Des Moines from 1988-94.

Pete was a Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed classic cars. He was also an avid race fan, following NASCAR, and the local dirt track racing. He especially loved watching his son, Ron.

He had a great love for his wife, family, children and grandchildren, and his best friend, his dog, "Rockie."

Survivors include, his wife, Palma, of Mason City; his mother, Velma Pope, of Sheffield; two daughters, Barbara Lindsay and her husband, Arlen, of Mason City and Patty Pope, of Mason City; one son, Ron Pope, of Mason City; four grandchildren, Jarrod and Jordan Lindsay, and Sheena and Logan Pope; five sisters, Betty Jimenez and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; Mary Ann Foster, of Mason City, Beverly Gamble and her husband, Harry "Snooks", of Swea City, Georgia Smit, of Sheffield, and Cynthia Pope, of Sheffield; one brother, Rolland "Shorty" Pope and his wife, Cindy, of Mason City; mother in law, Harriet Pullen, of Whiting; two brothers-in-law, Steve Pullen and his wife, Cheri, of Wiley, Texas, and Mark Pullen and his wife, Judy, of Plano, Texas; many nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; father-in-law, Don Pullen; and brother-in-law, Edward Smit.

THOMPSON - Josie C. Johnson, 100, of Thompson, died Monday (April 16, 2001) at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

FOREST CITY - Leona Nerby, age 94, of Forest City, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, with the Rev. Gerald Dyste officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. There will be no visitation.

Leona A. Nerby was born in Northwood, on June 16, 1906, the daughter of John A. and Julia (Pederson) Olson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Northwood and was confirmed in Kensett.

Leona attended rural school near her home and graduated from Kensett High School in 1924. She continued her education at Hamilton Business College.

She married Clarence O. (Curley) Nerby on June 7, 1929, in Kensett. The couple made their home in Kensett until moving to Forest City in 1931.

Leonard was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, was active in the Sarah Circle and the ILCW.

She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in April of 1993. She died there on April 17, 2001, at the age of 94 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Hedges and husband, Bob, of Bethesda, Md., and Beverly Gross and husband, Mike, of Plover, Wis.; two granddaughters, Barbara Vig, of Raleigh, N.C. and Andrea Gross, of Rochester, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Ruby and Marie; and a brother, Norman; and a grandson, John Don Carlos.

BELMOND - Robert John Tomson, 79, of Belmond, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at the Belmond Medical Center.

Robert, the son of Albin and Emma Dorenkamp Tomson, was born July 21, 1921, in Belmond. He attended Belmond schools graduating from Belmond High School in 1939.

On Dec. 14, 1941, Robert was united in marriage with Fern White at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, Iowa. The couple made their home in Belmond.

Robert enlisted into the U.S. Navy late in 1942, and served his country during World War II. A motor machinist mate, he was a member of the Amphibious Force aboard LST 373 on LCVP during the invasion of France, from a base at Portsmouth, England. LCVP hit a mine and sank, injuring many on board. Robert was hospitalized for back injuries, for which he received a Purple Heart. He then returned to the states and served for a time at Jacksonville Naval Air Station until his discharge on Nov. 10, 1945.

Upon returning to Belmond following his discharge, Robert opened Tomson Grocery across from the Belmond School. After the sale of the store in 1950, he was employed by Armour & Co. for 14 years. He then purchased A.W. Loats Insurance Agency, which he named Tomson Insurance Agency. In 1972, Robert retired from Tomson Insurance Agency, selling it to Don Bunnell.

Robert enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing and spending time with family.

He was a member of VFW Post 4244 and a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Belmond, holding offices in both organizations. He served a term on the Belmond City Council, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Belmond Community Car Care, Belmond Senior Citizens, serving as president several years, Congregate Meals board and Fare Share.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, where he served on the church council.

Robert is survived by his wife, Fern; two daughters, Lynnette Hruska and her husband, Jonathan, of Storm Lake, and Linda Geery, of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Nathan Hruska and his wife, Julie, Jennifer Hruska, Kristin Hruska, Cara Geery and Cami (Geery) Hollinrake and her husband, John; three great-grandchildren, Dominick Clarke, Joseph Hollinrake and Ethan Hruska; and one brother, Royce A. Tomson, of Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

ORVIL H. LIEN

LAKE MILLS - Orvil Lien, 84, of Lake Mills, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills with military rites by Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post No. 235.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church.

Orvil Herland Lien was born Jan. 15, 1917, in Watford City, N.D., the son of Knut and Bertha (Herland) Lien. He was baptized March 25, 1917, at Watford City and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

He graduated from Lake Mills High School.

He served in the Army for four years and was awarded four bronze stars. He served in the South Pacific.

He was united in marriage to Galya Walkner on Sept. 7, 1946, in Albert Lea, Minn. Orvil enjoyed grilling hamburgers for his family, camping, fishing, traveling and gambling. He also enjoyed helping others in the community.

He loved the church and spent countless hours doing odd jobs. He also helped with meals on wheels and drove for the Lake Mills Ambulance for a few years.

Orvil was a carpenter for many years until he joined the staff at the Lake Mills Lumber Yard where he was still employed at the time of his death. He had been a member of the Otto Chose Post No. 235 for 51 years.

Orvil passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Prior Lake, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Galya, of Lake Mills; four children, Milo and Louise Lien of Albert Lea, Minn., Linda and Bob Lair of Lake Mills, Dennis and Marlene Lien of Joice and Mary and Rick Flow of Lake Mills; 16 grandchildren: Nicole Mosby, Jeremy and Becky Vaught, Sara and Steve Hagen, Jeff and Sara Lien, Carrie Lien, Melissa Lien, Zachary Lien, Maranda and Dustin Etter, Jamie Lair, Knudt Lien, Christopher Flo and Joshua Flo; seven great-grandchildren, Nicholas Mosby, Alexander Mosby, Chase Lien, Tanner Escherich, Marcus Escherich, Andrew Lien and Jadyn Lien. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Orvil was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Richard, in 1996; one granddaughter, Jamie Lien; one brother, Stanley; and two brothers-in-law and and one sister-in-law.

HELEN C. HANSON

MASON CITY - Helen C. Hanson, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) in Eden Prairie, Minn. Her husband, Walter N. Hanson, M.D., preceded her in death.

She was born in Grand Forks, N.D., graduated from the University of North Dakota and lived in many places while Walter was in the Navy, finally settling in Mason City in 1954. They moved to Edina, Minn., upon his retirement in 1979.

She was a devoted wife, a loyal friend, a wonderful cook and a passionate Republican. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, playing bridge and golfing. She was unfailingly kind. She was a steadfast and loving mother of three daughters, grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of five.

Alzheimer's gradually took much of the mother we knew but spared her sweetness.

MARY RENELDA KRATCHMER

CHARLES CITY - Mary Renelda (Mrs. Ed) Kratchmer, 87, a former resident of 608 Ninth Ave., and a resident of Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home for the past five years, died Thursday (April 19, 2001) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

The funeral for Mary Renelda Kratchmer will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Diane Mitchell, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the family greeting friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Monday at the church.

Mary Renelda Atkinson Kratchmer was born May 12, 1913, at Clarksville, the daughter of George and Stella (Hickle) Atkinson. As a child her family moved to Wessington Springs, S.D., where they lived until her father's death, at which time they returned to Clarksville. When Mary's mother died, George and Grace Haney raised her as their child. Mary graduated from Clarksville High School in 1931.

On July 9, 1934, she was united in marriage to Ed Kratchmer at Lena, Ill. Mary and Ed were active members of the Central Methodist Church, which after the 1968 tornado merged with the First Methodist Church to become Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Rebecca Lodge.

Mary enjoyed her flower garden, fishing, spending time with her family and friends, and was known for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Living family members include her husband, Ed, of Charles City; three sons and their wives, Vernon and Sally, of Osage, Perry and Kerry, of Harrah, Okla., and Dean and Sharon, of Pensacola, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Elaine Hirschler; and a sister, Lucille Walker.

GARNER - Jon Rex Brady Jr., 60, of Garner, formerly of Prior Lake, Minn., died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

A private family memorial service will be held next week. According to Mr. Brady's wishes, his body has been cremated.

Jon was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of Jon Rex and Lillian L. (Guy) Brady. He lived for many years in Seattle, Wash., where he was a salesman for various marinas. Most recently, he worked in sales for Car Quest Auto Parts in Prior Lake, Minn.

Jon enjoyed hunting and collecting and restoring guns in his spare time.

Jon is survived by one son, Mark Brady and his wife, Caroline, of Delavon, Wis.; two grandchildren; five brothers, Tom Brady, of Denver, Colo., Farrel Brady and his wife, Irene, of Spring Valley, Ill., Lonnie Brady and his wife, Cindy, of St. Francis, Ark., Jack Lance and his wife, Marcia, of Melvindale, Mich., and Ricky Lance and his wife, Connie, of Garner; one sister, Cheryl Wireman and her husband, Paul, of Piggott, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

Les was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Lincoln Township, rural Manly, the son of Carl and Eliza (Dobel) Benjegerdes. He graduated from Manly High School in 1932.

Les married Catherine (Marie) Heagel on May 5, 1937. They farmed in the Manly area. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1975. On July 25, 1981, he married Eleanor Crawford at the Free Methodist Church in Riceville. They moved to Riceville, Charles City and, in 1990, to Manly.

Les enjoyed reading, fishing and going on trips and playing cards. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, Kiwanis in Riceville and the Homebuilders at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Les is survived by his wife, Eleanor Benjegerdes, of Manly; daughter, Sandra Miles and her husband, Pete, of Fargo, N. Mary was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Mason City, the daughter of James and Rose (Gallagher) Martin.

She grew up in Mason City, attending St. Joseph Academy. Mary was united in marriage to Leonard Smith in September 1936 and they were later divorced. She was a lifelong resident of Mason City who worked various jobs in the area.

Mary enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the St. Gregory Circle. She has been a resident of the Good Shepherd Care Center for the past two years.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, Mary Martin, Pat Smith and Barbara Kline, all of Mason City; one son, Patrick Smith and his wife, Carol, of Ames; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Daniel Martin, of Minneapolis, Minn.

Her parents and one son, Austin James Smith, preceded Mary in death.
