CLARION - Virginia Volker, 84, of Clarion, died Friday (March 30, 2001) at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion with the Rev. Curt Miner officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

DWAYNE F. HUNTINGTON

HAMPTON - Dwayne F. "Shorty" Huntington, 76, of Hampton, died Monday (April 2, 2001) at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton, with the Rev. Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

SHEFFIELD - Adam P. Just, 79, of Sheffield, died Feb. 22, 2001, in Tucson, Ariz.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell with Father Leo Riley officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

BELLE PLAINE - Diane L. Nielsen, 58, of Belle Plaine, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at the Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Belle Plaine High School Gymnasium with the Rev. David Crow officiating. Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.

MASON CITY - Vernon A. "Boots" Larson, 82, of 2045 Hunters Ridge Drive, died Thursday (April 6, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

BRITT - Lyle E. Dallman, 83, of Britt, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt, with Pastor Peter Schmidlkofer officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with military graveside services conducted by the Britt Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.

DOROTHA A. 'DOTTIE' TEGTMEYER

WESLEY - Dorotha A. "Dottie" Tegtmeyer, 78, of Wesley, passed away Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at her home near Wesley.

The funeral for Dottie Tegtmeyer will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with Rev. Dr. William H. Breen, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa, at a later daation and graduated from Cape Girardeau High School. Dottie later moved to Chicago, Ill., with her mother, and was employed with Kemper Insurance.

Dottie was united in marriage with Louis Tegtmeyer in Blytheville, Ark., on March 22, 1944. After Louis was discharged from the U. S. Army, the couple moved to their farm near Britt. She was employed, for a time, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Dottie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt. She enjoyed playing cards, crafting, painting and listening to music.

Dottie is survived by her husband, Louis, of Wesley; two sons, Rick Tegtmeyer and his wife, Barb, of Britt, and Randy Tegtmeyer and his wife, Natalie, of Blairsburg; four grandsons, Shane Tegtmeyer and his wife, Barb, Brad Tegtmeyer and his wife, Christy, and Tyler and Bryce Tegtmeyer; three granddaughters, Betsy, Melissa and Jenna Tegtmeyer; and three great-grandchildren, Andy, Ashley and Alyssa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters and two sons.

CLYDE W. SMITH

CHARLES CITY - Clyde W. Smith, 81, 3010 230th St., died Wednesday morning (April 4, 2001) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Charles City, with the Rev. Jack Ivey officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Park Cemetery west of Mason City, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Clyde Wheeler Smith was born April 7, 1919, at Walnut Grove, Mo., the son of John W. and Leona (Persley) Smith. He graduated from Walnut Grove, Mo., High School and enlisted in the Army. After his discharge he and Sophie Negomir were married on Oct. 1, 1945, at Tampa, Fla.

They moved to Mason City, where he graduated from Mason City Junior College, now North Iowa Area Community College. They then moved to St. Louis where both were employees of McDonald Douglas Aircraft, retiring in 1983. They moved to Charles City in 1984, where he was active in the Charles City Noon Kiwanis Club and in the American Legion. He loved to garden and enjoyed wildlife.

Living family members include his wife, Sophie, of Charles City; and a sister, Christine, and her husband, Charles Hall, of Tulsa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the Charles City Noon Kiwanis Club to be used for the Children's Miracle Network.

ORVAL ISEBRAND

MASON CITY - Orval Isebrand, 83, of 302 Second St. N.E. died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Private family services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Douglas Anderson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Orval Isebrand Memorial Fund.

Orval was born Sept. 6, 1917, at Woden, the son of Ben and Gertie (Gerdes) Isebrand. He attended school in Woden and farmed for several years on the family farm.

Orval married Ruby Evanson on Aug. 7, 1951, at Northwood. They lived in the Woden area until moving to Clear Lake in 1965. Orval drove for Winnebago Industries delivering motor homes all over the country for seven years and then drove for Mid American Dental Studio until his retirement. He lived at the Good Shepherd Health Center for the past four years.

He was a former member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City.

He is survived by his daughter, Carole Hoffman and her husband, Gary, of Mason City; stepdaughter, Ann Anderson, of Corona, Calif.; stepson, Ron Evanson and his wife, Lee, of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughters, Heather, Danika, Kari and Kimber Hoffman, all of Mason City; five stepgrandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Isebrand and his wife, Edna, of Titonka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded by his parents; wife, Ruby, in July of 2000; and several brothers and sisters.

VIRGINIA M. GOODLING

MASON CITY - Virginia M. Goodling, 86, of 1410 E. State St., died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at USA Health Care.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Clear Lake Township Cemetery in Ventura, with the Rev. Douglas Anderson, of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Virginia M. Goodling was born on July 7, 1914, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of William T. and Mattie B. (Spicer) Gamble. Her family moved to Mason City when she was a young girl. She graduated from Mason City High School and later furthered her education at Mason City Junior College.

While attending junior college, she was studying to become a teacher. She enjoyed studying English, foreign languages and archeology. Her aspiration was to become a teacher.

On July 8, 1945, she was united in marriage to Fordyce A. Goodling at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City.

She worked for several years at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a toll supervisor. She left the phone company in 1951 to dedicate her life to her family.

She attended the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and in her earlier years playing competitive tennis.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Donna Stadtlander, of Omaha, Neb., and Linda Wyrick and her husband, Sam, of Raleigh, N.C.; her son, Al Goodling, of Mason City; grandchildren, Rachel Stadtlander, Troy Stadtlander and Lora Stearns; two sisters, Mary Jane Thompson, of Yuma, Ariz., and Anna Carman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, William T. Gamble and Robert Gamble.

GERTRUDE W. FICK

MASON CITY - Memorial services for Gertrude W. Fick, 91, of Mason City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., Mason City.

Gertrude W. Fick died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

ELDO G. GRIFFEN

GARNER - Eldo G. Griffen, 89, of Garner, died Wednesday (April 4, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will be at Concord Township Cemetery with military rites being conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner.

Eldo Gerald Griffen, the eldest of six children of Charles L. and Meta (Greimann) Griffen, was born March 17, 1912, in Liberty Township in Hancock County. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner and received his education at Ell Township #4.

In 1929, he moved his family to Alberta, Minn., where Eldo helped his father with farming as well as working with other farmers as a day laborer. He also worked on the construction of Minnesota Highway 28 west of Morris, Minn., and the rebuilding of the Alberta Consolidated School. Eldo returned to Garner in 1939 and worked with his uncles and other relatives husking corn and doing chores for $12 per month.

In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II. He was assigned to the 5th Armored Division, 607th Tank Battalion, Company A as a tank driver in the European Theatre serving under General Patton and General Eisenhower.

After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to Garner where he continued as a farm laborer until he was seriously injured in a farm accident. Upon his recovery, he worked as a painter and for the Greiman-Stille Ditching Co. In 1962, he began to work for Winnebago Industries in Forest City. After his retirement from there he worked at Waldorf College for a number of years.

On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Ottolena Barendregt Van Oort at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner. They made their home in Forest City until October of 1985 when they moved to Garner. On April 11, 1993, Ottolena, died of cancer. Eldo continued to live in their home until moving to Prairie View Apartments in 1996.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He enjoyed the Bible studies of his church, hunting, fishing, playing cards, cracking black walnuts, watching TV, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by four stepchildren, Dwayne Van Oort and his wife, Dolores, of Ankeny, Homer Van Oort and his wife, June, of Garner, LaVonne Hanson and her husband, Marvin, of St. Louis, Mo., and Larry Van Oort and his wife, Patricia, of Cedar Falls; 23 stepgrandchildren; many stepgreat grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Estelle Griffen, of Coon Rapids, Minn., Ruth Moerke of Morris, Minn., and Marvel Wagner and her husband, Joe, of Morris, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Peter Barendregt and his wife, Ada, of Belem, N.M.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Ferrow and her husband, George, of Belem, N.M., and Frances Griffen of Mason City, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ottolena; parents; two stepsons, Cornie and Roger Van Oort; a sister, Bernadene Smith; a brother, Dale Griffen; and two brothers-in-law, John Smith and Fred Moerke.

RAYMOND ALLEN KALVIG

GROVE, Okla. - Raymond Allen Kalvig, 60, of Grove, Okla., died Tuesday (April 3, 2001) at home after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St. in Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.

There will be no public visitation as the body has been cremated at his request.

Raymond Allen Kalvig was born on Dec. 13, 1940, in rural Fertile, to Vern J. and A. Marie (Thiel) Kalvig. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended high school in Northwood.

He was united in marriage to Mary Swartwood, of Northwood, on Dec. 17, 1959. They were blessed with two sons and a daughter. He is survived by his second wife, Judy.

Raymond worked at various jobs. He worked for about 15 years for service stations in the Mason City and Blairsburg areas. He worked for Hotspot Detector for some years. He drove semi for J.B. Hunt for a number of years. The last 10 years of his life, he worked as an LPN. His love of this work enhanced his last years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy, of Grove, Okla.; his son, Jesse, and his children, Christopher, Albert, Megan and Melissa, of Salina, Kan.; his son, Kerry, of Kansas City, Kan.; his daughter, Justine Spiegel and her husband, Ron, and their children, Anthony and Corina, of Abilene, Kan.; his brothers, Donald and his wife, Shirley, Arthur and his wife, Cathy, and Carl and his wife, Carolyn, all of Northwood; his sisters, Verna Weitzel and her husband, Gene, of Northwood, Rachel Gataletto and her husband, Joe, of Orlando, Fla., and Dorothy Schoolcraft and her husband, Jim, of Hudson; also many nieces and nephews.
