MARTHA A. GIFFORD

BANCROFT - Martha A. Gifford, 80, of Bancroft, died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at the Algona Manor in Algona.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Burt Presbyterian Church in Burt, with the Rev. Roland Emond officiating. Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft.

ESTHER M. HOLLINGSWORTH

GREENE - The funeral for Esther M. Hollingsworth, 79, of 106 North Fourth St., Greene, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Greene, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Bangor Friends Cemetery, rural Union.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, where there will be a public scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church one hour before services.

Esther Marie Hollingsworth was born Sept. 18, 1921, in rural Pilltown, Butler County, a daughter of Warren Martin and Lillian Carey (Whinery) Hollingsworth, and died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

She received her education in the rural Butler County schools and graduated from Greene High School in 1939. Esther was employed by Salsbury Laboratories, now Solvey, for 40 years in its credit department until her retirement in 1984.

Music has played an important part throughout Esther's life. She played the flugelhorn while attending high school and as an adult she played in the Charles City Community Band. She also sang in the church choir for many years and played "Taps" on her trumpet at closing of services.

She was a member of the Try-It Club and was a member of Dorothy's Beauty Shop Bowling Team, which acquired tournament championships for six years. She also enjoyed traveling, having visited all the states except Alaska. Esther was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, where she was secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school for many years. She also assisted with Bible school for many years. She maintained her membership in the Liberty Friends Church in Bangor, which was her religious birthright.

Those thankful for having shared Esther's life include several cousins and a host of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Warren Carey Hollingsworth, at the age of four.

MABEL CLAIRE TURNER

ROCKFORD - Mabel Claire Turner,85, of 22 First St. North, Rockford, died Saturday (March 31, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
