FLORENCE WALLSKOG

MASON CITY - Florence Wallskog, 84, of Mason City, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

SYLVESTER A. ZROSTLIK

BRITT - Sylvester A. Zrostlik, 78, of Britt, passed away Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Sylvester A. Zrostlik will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, with Father Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, with a 7:30 p.m. parish wake service and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Sylvester A. Zrostlik was born Nov. 7, 1921, to Mike and Barbara Vavrik Zrostlik, on a farm near Duncan in Hancock County. He was united in marriage with Magda Egts on Feb. 16, 1938, at Duncan. The couple farmed in Hancock County.

In 1974, they moved to a farm near Jesup, where they farmed for 11 years. In 1985, they retired and moved into Britt. Magda passed away in December of 1997. Sylvester became a resident at Westview Care Center in Britt in June of 2000.

He is survived by his children, Robert Zrostlik and his wife, Jackie, of Waterloo, Richard Zrostlik and his wife, Joanne, of Shell Rock, Joan Enriquez and her husband, Frank, of Des Moines, Janice Zrostlik, of Des Moines, Betty Harms and her husband, Harris, of Burt, and James Zrostlik and his wife, Ju, of Korea; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Pete Zrostlik and his wife, Imogene, of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Magda, in 1997; four brothers; and three sisters.

VIVIAN L. MORRIS

MASON CITY - Vivian L. Morris, 75, of Mason City, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

MARYLN A. ANDERSON

BELMOND - Maryln A. Anderson, 69, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with Father David Beckman officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, with a parish rosary at 2:30 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services at the church Wednesday.

Maryln Alberta (Dorr) Anderson was born Feb. 26, 1931, the daughter of Albert and Nellie (Fulton) Dorr. She attended and graduated from Belmond High School.

She was united in marriage to Leonard Anderson on April 29, 1950, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. They made their home in Goodell. After Leonard died in 1995, she moved to the Belmond Community Apartments, and in failing health she entered the Belmond Health Care Center, where she died on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000.

Maryln was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her children, Mary Ellen Mason and her husband, Wayne, of Goodell, Evelyn Nolte of Goodell, Theresa Beck and her husband, Dan, of Minden, Neb., Annette Schallert and her husband, Miles, of Denver, Colo., Duane Anderson and his wife, Deb, of Iowa City, Michael Anderson and his wife, Kathy, of New Hampton, Terry Anderson and his wife, Bonnie, of Goodell, and Tony Anderson of North Liberty; grandchildren, Walter and Christy Mason, Larinda and Timothy Mongan, Scot and Jennifer Peil, Jamie Mason, Mike Anderson, Tennille Anderson, Autumn Anderson, Tiffany Anderson, Helen Nolte, Troy Buckley, Travis Nolte, Christopher Nolte, Nicholas Smith, Duane Anderson, and Keko and Jesse Riggs; great-grandchildren, Maicie Mason, Madison Mason, Bryanna Mongan and Jacob Mongan; brothers, Donald Dorr and his wife, Mildred, of Belmond, and O'Larry Dorr and his wife, Doris, of Belmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard, in 1995; grandson, Josh Anderson; seven brothers; and two sisters.

CHARLES CITY - Esther Morse, 92, of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

ALAN L. UETZ

MINNEAPOLIS - Alan L. Uetz, 39, of 4821 Bryant Ave S., went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) as a result of cardiac arrest.

He was a loving husband, tender father and faithful friend.

Alan was born Jan. 12, 1961, in Charles City. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1979 and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1986.

He was currently employed as an employee relations manager for Dayton Hudson/Target Corporation.

On Oct. 28, 1989, he was united in marriage to Lisa Broek. They were blessed with two sons, Maxwell and Austin.

Alan enjoyed all types of competitive sports. He especially liked to participate in Frisbee golf, canoeing and camping. He also enjoyed traveling.

Those thankful for having shared his life are his wife, Lisa; and sons, Maxwell, age 5 and Austin, age 3; parents, Alvin and Sharon Uetz; grandmother, Mildred Kruse; and sisters, Julie Endelman (Kevin) and Jill Uetz; a nephew, Levi Endelman. He is also survived by many loving and special uncles, aunts and cousins and a multitude of friends. He will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Stacie Lynn; his grandparents; and one aunt.

Memorial services will be held 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Riverside Church, 10200 Nicollet Ave. S., Bloomington, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Charles City.

MASON CITY - Sylvia Russell, 103, of 622 S. Connecticut Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at her home.

Funeral Mass will be held at noon Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S. E. in Mason City, with the Rev. David Kucera officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a scriptural service at 7 p.m.

MYRTLE LUSK-KUENKEL

OSAGE - Myrtle Lusk-Kuenkel, 86, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Osage, with the Rev. George Hope and the Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating. Interment will be at Osage Cemetery.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church Thursday.

Myrtle was born June 6, 1914, in LaPorte City, the daughter of Melvin and Tina (Jones) Sissel. She attended schools in Charles City. Myrtle worked for several years at Karwac Bakery and was a cook at both nursing homes in Osage.

She was united in marriage to Edwin Lusk on April 16, 1932, in Charles City. Five boys were born to this union, Edwin Jr., Daniel, John, Roland and Joseph. Edwin Lusk Sr. passed away in 1967.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Glenn Kuenkel on Nov. 16, 1974, in Osage.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church; she was on the Deaconess Board and Christian Education Board. She was a Sunday school teacher and the president of the A.B.W.

Myrtle is survived by her husband, Glenn Kuenkel of Osage; two daughters, Cheryl Duck and her husband, Miles, of Mason City and Colleen Gamble and her husband, Scott, of Mason City; five sons, Edwin D. Lusk Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Fernley, Nev., Daniel Lusk of Jonesville, Vt., John Lusk and his wife, Betty, of Harlan, Iowa, Roland Lusk and his wife, Charlotte, of St. Ignatius, Mont., and Joseph Lusk and his wife, Linda, of Fort Worth, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; three sisters; and two brothers.

HANNAH C. LAMBERT

WASECA, Minn. - Hannah C. Lambert, 92, formerly of Waseca, died Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, with Father John Kunz officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Janesville.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the service time at the church Thursday. At 1 p.m. a rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughters at the church.

Hannah Catherine Lambert, the daughter of Samuel J. and Bridget A. (McHugo) Lambert was born on Nov. 21, 1907, in St. Mary Township, Waseca County, Minn. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1925 and received her teaching certificate from Mankato Normal School.

She began her teaching career teaching country school in Waseca County. She later taught in Meridan, Madelia, Mankato and Faribault. She retired from teaching in 1973 and moved to Waseca.

In 1997 she moved to Mason City to be closer to her sister, Helen. Hannah was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca and the Catholic Daughters of America-Court Sacred Heart No. 1424.

She is survived by one sister, Helen Mitchell of Mason City; her friend, Richard Nelson of Hampton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Francis; and two sisters, Agnes Lambert and Mary Dumbeck.

GENEVIEVE E. HIPPEN

MASON CITY - Genevieve E. Hippen, 79, of 365 Marion Blvd., in Marion, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 429 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood Columbarium. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Genevieve was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Milton, Wis., the daughter of Pastor Theodore A. and Clara (Klatt) Schoewe. She graduated from Plainview, Minn., High School and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1942 from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

Genevieve taught school for two years at Lynd, Minn., High School, served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during World War II and then taught at Buffalo Center High School for two years following the war.

On Aug. 8, 1948, Genevieve was united in marriage by her father to Melvin H. Hippen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, Minn.

Genevieve was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and worked at Medical Arts Pharmacy in Mason City as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1989.

Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Lynn Good and her husband, Dan, of Newport News, Va. and Sara Clark and her husband, Jeff, of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Andrew Good, Elizabeth Good Tabor, Timothy Good, Rebecca Good, Emily Clark and Allison Clark.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Melvin, in 1998.

DOROTHY J. LARSON

WEST BRANCH - Dorothy J. Larson, 67, of 124 Thomas Drive, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at the Crestview Care Center, following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave. in Iowa City, with the Rev. Judy Gingerich officiating.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Mrs. Larson's remains will be scattered with her son's at a later date in Colorado.

Memorials may be directed to Emergency Housing Shelter in Iowa City.

Mrs. Larson was born on April 14, 1933, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Clifford and Helen Brubacher Lewis. She married Ervin Larson on June 16, 1953, in Windom, Minn.

Dorothy and her husband farmed in the West Branch area for many years. She assisted Ervin with his work as a farm management consultant and handled the bookkeeping. In 1964 they moved to Mason City and returned to West Branch in 1980.

Dorothy was a medical transcriptionist at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and later in Mason City. She had also been employed at the West Branch Animal Clinic for five years as a bookkeeper and assistant to the veterinarian.

Mrs. Larson was a member of the P.E.O., Tri-T and Chi Omega Sorority. She was very involved with collectible antiques and had been active with Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts and the PTA in earlier years.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin, of West Branch; one daughter, Jennifer, of West Branch; two grandchildren, Cassandra Castillo and Jim Madden.

She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher; and one brother, Richard.

MRS. ALVIN (ESTHER) MORSE

CHARLES CITY -Mrs. Alvin (Esther) Morse, 92, a former resident of 704 J. St., Charles City, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 South Main St., with the Rev. Robert Porisch, pastor of First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Esther Zeta Bever Morse was born Aug. 15, 1908, at Dallas Center, the daughter of Franklin C. and Bessie M. (Britton) Bever. She graduated from Adel High School and taught rural school for two years.

On Jan. 1, 1931, she married Alvin A. Morse at Dallas Center. They lived in the Charles City area for the past 55 years. She was a former member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Friendly Birthday Club, the Garden Club and the Charles City Women's Club.

Living family members include three daughters, Marjorie and her husband, Bob Nordmeyer, of Greene, Jan and her husband, Galen Leraaen, of St. Ansgar and Linda Montet and her husband, Bruce Balentine, of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Wenger, of St. Ansgar.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1995, two infant sons, a brother and two sisters.

FLOYD AUGUST HENRY FLUGGE

KNOXVILLE - Floyd August Henry Flugge, 79, of Knoxville, died Sunday (Sept. 24, 2000) at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.

Sylvia was born on June 12, 1897, in Mason City, the daughter of Matthew and Theresa (Jones) Kelroy. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and from Hamilton Business College.

Sylvia was a bookkeeper for many years at Western Electric Telephone Company. She enjoyed cooking, raising flowers, and especially playing bridge, which she played right up until the time of her passing.

Sylvia is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a special neighbor, Connie Erickson.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her father; mother; stepmother, Nellie Conlin; her husband, Ike; and two brothers, Michael and Elias Kelroy.

VIVIAN LORAINE MORRIS

MASON CITY - Vivian Loraine Morris, 75, of Mason City, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, following a courageous battle with Cancer.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. William W. Poland officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West in Mason City.

There will be no visitation. According to her wishes, her body was cremated.

Vivian Loraine Morris was born on June 9, 1925, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Lawrence Harold and Anna Elizabeth (Schatzman) Rish. She attended and received her education in the rural country schools in Cerro Gordo County. She was united in marriage to Robert Arlin Morris on May 2, 1943, in Bethany, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2000. After their marriage she worked as a seamstress for Harriet Walker in the drapery business in Mason City for several years. In 1949, the family moved from Nora Springs to Mason City.

She enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, flowers, bowling and dancing, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Dianne Jarosh and her husband, Charles, of Mason City and Sharon Gatenby and her husband, John, of Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Robert Jarosh and his wife, Cathy, of Laramie, Wyo., Jonathan Jarosh, of Ames, Christopher Jarosh and his wife, Cheryl, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Sara Shaul and her husband, Kevin, of Portland, Ore.; two great-grandchildren, Justice Jarosh, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Makayla Shaul, of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Louise McCormack, of Missouri; as well as many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

Her parents; husband; one brother, Harold Rish; and one sister, Delores Finn, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. James B. Norem officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Florance was born Dec. 9, 1915, in Mason City, the daughter of Carl and Hilma (Frid) Larson. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1933, and received a cosmetology degree from Parisian Beauty School in Minneapolis, Minn.

Florance married Lansing Wallskog on Sept. 3, 1937, in Mason City. Florance enjoyed animals and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Florance is survived by her husband, Lansing Wallskog, of Mason City; four daughters, Lanis McKinney and her husband, Curtis, of Houston, Texas, Karol Wallskog, of Mason City, Rebecca Hyde and her husband, Walter, of Ames, and Jill Huygens and her husband, Jim, of West Des Moines; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Florance was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Floyd Larson.

ORDEAN NORLEN OAKLAND

AUSTIN, Minn. - The funeral for Ordean Norlen Oakland, 64, of Austin, will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Faith Lutheran Church in London, Minn., with the Rev. Einar Unseth and Roger Campbell officiating. Interment will be at the London Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, 1415 N. Highway 13 in Albert Lea, and one hour before services on Friday at the church.

Ordean Norlen Oakland was born Aug. 18, 1936, to Orlen Tilden and Mildred Orva (Sorbo) Oakland near Emmons, and was delivered by his great-grandmother, Clara Flaten. He attended country schools in Myrtle and London and graduated from Austin High School, where he won several FFA awards.

On Aug. 5, 1962, Ordean was united in marriage to Evelyn Ann Beers in Iowa. He farmed in the Austin area for 43 years.

Ordean loved collecting antiques and going to auctions. He had several collections. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly the Vikings and the Twins. He also enjoyed studying the Old West.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; children, Rick Warrington, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Renee Graceffa and her husband, Frank, of Laguna Nigel, Calif., Linda Ellingson and her husband, John, of Lake Mills, Mary Bjerk and her friend, Dan, of Owatonna, and Don Wrolson and his wife, Judy, of Hampton; a brother, Mervin Oakland, of Glenville; and sister, Shirley Dissell and her husband, Bob, of Red Wing, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Ordean was preceded in death by his mother and father, one nephew and one niece.

MASON CITY - Sylvia Russell, 103, of 622 S. Connecticut Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 23, 2000) at her home.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon today at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Kucera officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Sylvia was born on June 12, 1897, in Mason City, the daughter of Matthew and Theresa (Jones) Kelroy. She graduated from St. Joseph High School and from Hamilton Business College.

Sylvia was united in marriage to Clyde "Ike" H. Russell on Nov. 18, 1919, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

Sylvia was a bookkeeper for many years at Western Electric Telephone Co. She enjoyed cooking, raising flowers and, especially, playing bridge, which she played right up until the time of her passing.

Sylvia is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and a special neighbor, Connie Erickson.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her father; mother; stepmother, Nellie Conlin; husband, Ike; and two brothers, Michael and Elias Kelroy.

Mabel was born June 12, 1908, in Nora Springs, the daughter of Roger and Minnie Etta (Clough) Kelley. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1926 and continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school in Williams.

Mabel married Ted Quinby on Sept. 4, 1938. They lived in Cresco, Decorah, LaCrosse, Wis., and Springfield, Ill. Mabel moved back to Nora Springs in 1943 after her husband's death and started teaching school in Nora Springs until her retirement in the Spring of 1971.

Mabel enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, handwork and reading. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs.

Mabel is survived by her son, Jim Quinby and his wife, Ellie, of Roswell, Ga.; three grandsons, James R. Quinby Jr. and his wife, Kristin, of Marietta, Ga., Brian Quinby, of Roswell, Ga., and Patrick Quinby, of Boulder, Colo.; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Quinby.

Her parents; husband, Ted, in 1943; infant daughter, Linda Lee Quinby; and two brothers, Ray and Lester Kelley, preceded her in death.

Gladys lived in Manly for many years and worked as a clerk at both Damons and JC Penney Stores in Mason City. She moved to Mason City in 1993.

Gladys was a former member of the Women of the Moose in Mason City and the American Legion Auxiliary in Manly.

Gladys is survived by her sister-in-law, Deloris Johnson, of Mason City; three nephews, Daral Johnson, of Des Moines, Richard Johnson, of Mason City, and Gary Johnson, of Houston, Texas; one great-niece, two great-nephews and three great-great-nieces.

Evangeline "Angie" Skarlis was born Feb. 15, 1916, in St. Loukas, Greece, the daughter of George and Helen (Xiggis) Manolis. At age 11, Angie came from Greece to Mason City. She attended school in Mason City.

Angie married Thomas A. Skarlis Nov. 25, 1934, in Mason City. She owned and operated Central Food Market for many years in Mason City.

She was an active member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, a founding member of Daughters of Penelope and a member of Philoptohous.

She is survived by three sons, George Skarlis and his wife, Shirley, of Waterloo, Gus Skarlis and his wife, Nancy, of Mason City, and Jim Skarlis and his wife, Sandra, of Waterloo; grandchildren, Tom Skarlis and his wife, Michelle, of Walker, Minn., John Skarlis and his wife, Angela, of Cedar Falls, Lisa McManus and her husband, Matt, of Waterloo, Gus Skarlis Jr. of Mason City, Laura Buser and her husband, Sam, of Waterloo, and Jim Skarlis of Des Moines; and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, James, Lindsay, Grace, Lauren and Sammy.

Beaulah was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Forest City, the daughter of Lars and Velma (McDowell) Myklestad. She grew up in Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1940. She then graduated from the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mason City in 1944.

Beulah was united in marriage to Peter John Rothamel on March 4, 1946, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. While raising nine children, she worked full time at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in various departments, including the pharmacy, obstetrics and pediatrics. After many years she left to work part time as a private duty nurse.

Beulah enjoyed quilting, putting together puzzles, reading and traveling to see her children. Her travels were highlighted by a trip to Hawaii with her daughter and a trip with her son to Norway in 1988 to meet extended family, whom she corresponded with until the time of her passing. Her great joy was hearing about and attending the many activities of her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the St. Francis Circle and a volunteer for the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.

BELMOND - Ruby P. Morris, 94, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond.

Ruby Pearl Morris, daughter of Perlie and Nellie Andrews LaGue, was born July 28, 1906, near Rowan. She grew up in the Rowan area where she attended country school. Ruby graduated from Rowan High School and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught country school for one year.

Ruby was united in marriage with Orra Glenn Morris on Feb. 16, 1927, in Rowan. The couple made their home southwest of Belmond where they farmed and Ruby worked as a housewife and mother. Ruby was employed by the Clarion Nursing Home for a time and also enjoyed raising chickens.

In 1987, the couple moved into Belmond. She became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in 1994. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and photography.

Ruby was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Belmond and the Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by one son, Derl, and his wife, Betty, of Belmond; four grandchildren, RoxAnne, Kerry, Brian and Valerie; three stepgrandchildren, Rick, David and Dennis; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Courtney, Susan, Dara, Michael, Ryan, Alexandra and Bobby; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda; one great-great-grandson, Kyle; and two brothers-in-law, Francis Morris of Belmond and Gerald (Red) Knight of Mason City.

STANLEY T. TOMKE

CLEAR LAKE - Stanley T. Tomke, 81, of 3669 N. Shore Dr. in Clear Lake, died Friday (Sept. 29, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Interment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Clarion, with Military honors by the American Legion of Rockwell.

There will be no visitation. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Stanley T. Tomke Memorial Fund, for either the American Heart Association or Hospice of North Iowa.

Stan was born in Glenwood, Ill., on Feb. 17, 1919, the son of Richard and Sophie (Swierck) Tomke. His family moved to Clarion in 1922. He graduated from Clarion High School. After attending the State University of Iowa he accepted the position of assistant manager of the Farmers Co-op Elevator. Stan married Audrey Jean Wood in June of 1942, in Clarion.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He received his officer commission at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He was given an on-spot promotion to Captain in Brussels, Belgium, and named Chief Disbursing Officer of the European Theater of Operations. He served three years overseas. Besides numerous medals and battle stars, he was especially proud to be awarded a special French Liberty Medal for participating in the Normandy Invasion.

Upon return from the service he accepted the management of the Farmers Co-op Society of Rockwell. At Rockwell he served as president of the Chamber of Commerce, president of Lions Club, member of the School Board, and member of the American Legion Club. He was also a member of the Goodwill Delegation to tour Europe and Russia in 1958.

Along with a partner, they started a company dealing in the construction of commercial grain, feed and seed facilities. Stan and his family moved to their current residence on North Shore Drive in Clear Lake. After retirement they spent winter months in Florida.

He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a winner of the Hartman Memorial at the Mason City Country Club, and won the state title of the Cooperative Grain Managers.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Audrey of Clear Lake; one son, Craig Tomke and his wife, Karen, of Hayden, Colo., a professional Big Game Outfitter; and three granddaughters, Valerie Jean Boehlje and her husband, Chad, of Pella, Kathleen Ann Krumm and her husband, Michael, of Tracy, Calif., and Krista Tomke, of Hayden, Colo.; one sister, Katherine Lucas and her husband, Larry, of Sun City, Fla.; and one brother, Richard Tomke and his wife, Annabelle, of Eagle Grove.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

SUSAN L. STURGES

ROCKWELL - Susan L. "Lou" Sturges, 98, of Rockwell, died early Thursday afternoon (Sept. 28, 2000) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce E. Wittern officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. in Rockwell. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Susan was born on Oct. 20, 1901, in Rockwell, the daughter of William D. and Ida Mae (Piersol) Gibson. She is a lifelong resident of Rockwell, attending the Rockwell public schools and later graduating from La James Beauty School in Mason City. For many years she operated with her partner the Lu-Raine Beauty Shop in Rockwell.

On May 8, 1918, she was united in marriage to Martin M. Treston and to this union were born two children. Martin preceded her in death on May 20, 1964. She later married Hugh F. Coyle on Oct. 15, 1965. He also preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1970. Leonard "Pat" Sturges and Lou were married on Dec. 19, 1972. He passed away on April 29, 1994.

Susan "Lou" was a very active member of the Rockwell United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women, of which she served as president. She was a former member of the Rockwell Chamber of Commerce and was honored as a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted and loving member of her family and was always seen active in events in and around Rockwell.

Those thankful in sharing Lou's life include her daughter, Margaret and her husband, Cecil J. McMonagle, of Mason City; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Treston, of Rockwell; one stepdaughter, Donna and her husband, Morris Billings, of Mobridge, S.D.; two stepsons, Jay and his wife, Ellen Sturges, and Robert and his wife, Jane Sturges, all of Rockwell; one stepdaughter-in-law, Billie Sturges, of Des Moines; one stepson-in-law, Darrel Schmock, of Fontana, Calif.; three granddaughters, Sherry Treston, of Hinsdale, Ill., Shirley and her husband Vance Severson, of La Porte City, and Sheila and her husband, Jay Boyle, of Vancouver, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Alicia, Andrew, Jacob, Aaron, Tai Li, and Kai Mei; 28 stepgrandchildren; 32 stepgreat-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren; one nephew, Robert and his wife, Marjorie Gibson; and one niece, Alwilda Kramer, all of Mason City.

OSAGE - Louise Mathilde Berge, 90, of Osage, died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2000) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in rural Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Interment will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church.

Louise was born March 2, 1910, in the Cedar Township of Mitchell County, the daughter of Lars and Maren (Lund) Sorlie. She attended school at Cedar No. 7 school until 1919, when the family moved to Osage, where she continued her education, graduating from the Osage High School in May of 1928.

She was united in marriage to Pervin Berge on Sept. 20, 1933, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. They lived on the farm where she was born until Pervin's death in 1959.

She moved to Osage in June of 1961 with her two youngest daughters. Louise worked several years in the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

During her retirement she enjoyed the hobbies of quilting, gardening and being a grandmother. She entered the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Dec. 28, 1994, where she died on Sept. 28, 2000.

Louise was a lifelong member of Rock Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in 1924, active in Luther League, choir, Ladies Aid, Sunday school teaching, Bible study circle and Lydia Mission Circle as long as her health permitted.

She was noted for delicious dinner rolls, which she made for her grandchildren's confirmation, graduation parties and weddings.

Louise is survived by three daughters, Lois Ruehlow and her husband, Charles, of Osage, Margaret Lattimore and her husband, John, of San Antonio, Texas, and Elizabeth Dinger and her husband, Glenn, of Riceville; two sons, Loren Berge and his wife, Barb, of Osage and Arthur Berge, of Osage; one sister, Borghild Sorlie, of Osage; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pervin, in 1959; three half sisters; three brothers; two great-grandsons, Devan and Andrew; and daughter-in-law, Mary Berge.
