LUVERNE - Eleanor M. Marty, 80, of LuVerne, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2000) at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in the long term care unit.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in LuVerne. Burial will be in the LuVerne Cemetery in LuVerne.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in LuVerne.

WILLIAM E. LONERGAN

AUSTIN, Minn. - William E. Lonergan, 86, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000) at the Austin Medical Center from respiratory failure.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minn., with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Mayer Funeral Home, 600 Second St. N.W. in Austin, Minn.

BERTHA MARIE MICKLICK

CLEAR LAKE - Bertha Marie Micklick 90, of 625 14th Ave. N., died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000) in Iowa City.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the North St. John's Cemetery, Depew, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake.

The family suggest memorials to Zion Lutheran Church.

Bertha was born July 18, 1910, in rural Fenton, on the family homestead, daughter of Ben and Martine (Berkland) Mitchell. She graduated from Fenton High School and then continued her education on at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, obtaining her normal teaching degree. She taught country school in rural Fenton, from 1931 to 1932.

Bertha married John Micklick May 25, 1932, in Fenton. They lived in many towns in Northern Iowa and moved to Clear Lake in 1971.

Bertha loved visiting with people, playing cards, enjoying her flower garden and was known for her great sense of humor. She really enjoyed celebrating her 90th birthday with her family.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., Liberty Circle, Library Reading Club and Zion Visitation Committee.

Bertha is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Norton and her husband, Bob, of North Liberty; and a son, Bob Micklick and his wife, Annie, of South Park, Colo.; a daughter-in- law, Susan Micklick, of Albert Lea, Minn.; four grandchildren, Mark Norton, of Iowa City, Richard Norton, of Denver, Colo., Jill Micklick and her friend,Paul Buley, of Hollandale, Minn., and John Micklick, of Duluth, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 1986, three infant brothers; one infant sister; two sisters, Serena Pedersen, and Esther Oleson; four brothers, Morris, Albert, Melfred and Edward Mitchell.

EDITH SCHAEFER

SHEFFIELD - Edith Schaefer, 90, of Sheffield, died Wednesday (Aug. 30, 2000) at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.

Edith Schaefer was born on May 20, 1910, in rural Sheffield, the daughter of Diedriech and Emily Gerdes Koester. She attended the Pleasant Valley Township School and was a 1928 graduate of the Sheffield High School. Edith then attended Iowa State Teacher's College and later taught in the Sheffield area.

On Aug. 6, 1933, Edith was married to Allardce Schaefer in Sheffield. The couple then became managers of the Schaefer Department Store in Sheffield where they worked until their retirement in 1978. Edith's husband died in 1994.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield.

She became a resident of Friendship Village in Waterloo in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Peterson and her husband, Dale, of Cedar Falls; a son, Kennon Schaefer and his wife, Lene, of Mason City; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son, William; parents; four brothers and three sisters.

MASON CITY - Scott Robert Schumaker, 20, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) as the result of an auto accident north of Charles City .

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, Mason City. The officiant will be Roger Schumaker. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

GREGORY QUAME

VENTURA -Gregory Quame, 53, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) as a result of an auto accident.

Funeral services are tentatively planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

GLORIA L. PITZENBERGER

ROCKWELL - Gloria L. Pitzenberger, 76, formerly of 300 Fifth St. S., Swaledale, died Thursday (Aug. 31, 2000) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Leo Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., Rockwell, with a scripture service beginning at 4 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Gloria Pitzenberger Memorial Fund.

Gloria was born Oct. 18, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Sadie (Wray) Warner in Dougherty. She was raised in Dougherty and later graduated from Dougherty High School.

On Dec. 30, 1940, Gloria was united in marriage to Irvin Pitzenberger in Dougherty. To this union were born five children.

Gloria was known for her talents with a needle, thread and sewing machine; she could often be found quilting one of her many quilts or sewing clothes for herself or others. She was also an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast. Gloria was a people person who cherished the time she had with her family and friends. She enjoyed writing letters and was very timely about returning a letter if she had received one.

Gloria was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, Sacred Heart Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Those thankful for having shared in Gloria's life include two daughters, Donna and her husband, Robert Thompson, and Carol Mann, both of Mason City; three sons, Paul and his wife, Marlys Pitzenberger, of Rockwell, Timothy and his wife, Darlene Pitzenberger, of Roy, Wash., and Ronald and his wife, Daina Pitzenberger, of Tomball, Texas; 16 grandchildren, Kim Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Karyn Shaver, Kelly Thompson, Kyle Thompson, Troy Pitzenberger, Traci Mellman, Travis Pitzenberger, Lisa Jones, Jeremy Mann, Timothy Mann, Linsie Pitzenberger, Holly Pitzenberger, Angie Pitzenberger, Amanda Pitzenberger and Sadie Pitzenberger; 20 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Cameron, Ashlie, Amanda, Alyssa, Aimee, Robby, Heather, Tenton, Megan, Kylie, Kodie, Teyton, Dillyn, Josh, Jordan, Bailee, Ben, Ryan, and Toby.

Mrs. Pitzenberger was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irvin; one sister, Mary; and one brother, Charles.

VERA H. BARTZ

ST. ANSGAR - Vera H. Bartz, 90, formerly of Grafton, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson and the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating. Interment will be in Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and one hour before the service at the church Wednesday.

Vera was born Dec. 13, 1909, near Grafton in Worth County, the daughter of Julius and Ella (Hollatz) Hartwig.

On Oct. 15, 1932, she was united in marriage with Alvin Bartz. They farmed north of Grafton for 55 years. After the death of Alvin in 1987, Vera moved to St. Ansgar.

She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Vera is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Lane of Crystal, Minn., and her two sons, Barret Lane and his wife, Pamela Stahlheim Lane and their children, Benjamin and Daniel, and Stuart Lane and his wife, Heather, and their children, Ethan and Garrett; and a son, Eugene Bartz, of rural Grafton and his four children, Bonnie Ayers and her children, Katie and Kelsey, Michael Bartz and his wife, Melinda, and their children, Adam and Trevor, Brenda Billings and her children, Ryan and Karl, and Mark Bartz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, in 1987; a son, Roger; her parents, Julius and Ella Hartwig; and three brothers, Rudolph, Raymond and Wilmer Hartwig.

GREGORY JAY QUAME

VENTURA - Gregory Jay Quame, 53, of 2 N. Main, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) in an automobile accident in rural Woden.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Mary Sacco officiating. Interment will be in Olena Mounds Cemetery, Buffalo Center, with military honors by the Buffalo Center V.F.W.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and will resume one hour before the service at the church Wednesday.

Gregory was born Jan. 10, 1947, in Buffalo Center, the son of Orlando "Lindy" and Norma Elaine (Sterrenberg) Quame. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1965 and then attended Wartburg College in Waverly for one year. He served in the military for two years during the Vietnam War.

After the service he moved to Mankato, Minn., where he lived for 10 years and worked for Minnegasco. In 1979 he moved back to his home town of Buffalo Center where he worked with his father in the plumbing and heating business and also was the Buffalo Center Police officer. He later went to work for Monson Plumbing in Ventura and the last five years has owned and operated his father's business, Quame Plumbing and Heating, in Buffalo Center.

Gregory married Paulette Grell on Nov. 22, 1986, in Denver, Colo., and they have lived in the Ventura area for 14 years.

Gregory was a great lover of golf, spending time on his computer, camping with his family, fishing and playing practical jokes on his friends and family. He was the best husband, father and grandpa anyone could ever have.

Gregory will be missed by his wife, Paulette Quame, Ventura; daughters, Mackenzie Quame, Ventura, Janet Uhlenhopp and her husband, Brad, Hampton, Robin Olmstead and her husband, Terry, Hampton, Kim Quame and her friend, Travis Bonneman, Cedar Falls, Gina Welp and her husband, Greg, Ventura, and Abbie Grell and her fiance, Tad White, Ventura; five granddaughters, Cassie, Jaylen and Jesse Uhlenhopp, and McCayla and Morgan Welp; two grandsons, Trevor Olmstead and Gage White and another grandson due in November; his mother, Norma Bosma and her husband, Jim, Buffalo Center; a sister, Deb Smith and her husband, Mike, Buffalo Center; mother-in-law, Mayvis Sheimo, Mason City; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orlando "Lindy" Quame, and his brother, Brad.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Church of the Nazarene, 507 S. Carolina, Mason City, with the Rev. Curtis DeLong and Roger Schumaker, Scott's uncle, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Scott Robert Schumaker was born July 15, 1980, to Bob and Ruth Schumaker in Mason City. He attended Mason City Public Schools and graduated in 1999. He was employed in the bakery of HyVee West in Mason City.

Scott enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. His favorite pastime was collecting Hot Wheels with his dad. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan.

Scott was a very likeable person and he will be sadly missed by his parents, Bob and Ruth, Mason City; grandmother, Betty Schumaker, Mason City; grandparents Gail and Donna Taken, Prescott Ariz.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

WILLIAM H. 'BILL' RYBURN

ROCKWELL - William H. "Bill" Ryburn, 79, died Saturday (Sept. 2, 2000) at the Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Louis Bram officiating. Interment will be in Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

William Hinrichs "Bill" Ryburn was born June 27, 1921, on a farm near Rockwell to Monroe and Emma Hinrichs Ryburn. He graduated from the Rockwell High School in 1939. After his schooling, Bill farmed with his father near Rockwell.

He served his country during World War II in the United States Army, spending time in Japan. After the service, Bill started farming on his own near Rockwell.

On March 25, 1948, Bill was married to Joyce Taft at Steamboat Rock. The couple continued farming near Rockwell. During this time Bill also sold fertilizer. Joyce preceded Bill in death on Oct. 14, 1981.

On Nov. 30, 1982, Bill married Reva Reimers at the First Baptist Church in Rockwell. Bill retired in 1982, but he and Reva remained on the farm. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours either farming, hunting or fishing.

Bill was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Rockwell where he was a deacon and had taught Sunday school. He was also a longtime member of the Rockwell Lion's Club.

Bill became a resident of the Community Nursing Home in Rockwell on Aug. 28, 2000. He died there on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the age of 79.

Bill is survived by his wife, Reva, Rockwell, and his children, David Ryburn, Augusta, Ga., and Kathleen Miller, Portland, Ore. He is also survived by four stepchildren, Laverne Reimers and his wife, Sue, Osage, Don Reimers and his wife, Ruth, Rockwell, Mary Kay Reimers, Jewell, Ken Reimers and his wife, Barb, Rockwell; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, James Ryburn and his wife, Shirley, Britt, and two sisters, Ruth Ryburn, Mason City and Marjorie Sturges and her husband, Mick, Clear Lake.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Joyce.

Sadonia L. Koch was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Hampton, the daughter of August "Otto" and Olga (Buse) Storck.

She attended Sheffield schools and was married to William Koch on May 8, 1943, in Hampton. She lived in the Sheffield area all her life.

She is survived by one daughter, Oletha Thomas, of Twin Falls, Idaho; granddaughters, Teresa Sept, of Twin Falls, Idaho, Deb Horton, of Twin Falls, Idaho, Jodi Ammerman, of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Lisa Schiermeier, of Twin Falls, Idaho; one grandson, John Thomas, of Twin Falls, Idaho; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Holly, and Erica Stevens, and Katelin and Kristin Horton; and special friends, as close as her children, Ray and Karen Grabbe, of Sheffield.

CHARLES CITY - Florence (Mrs. Maurice) Anderson, 98, formerly of 3011 E. Clark St., died Sunday (Sept. 3, 2000) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the Rev. Mark Anderson, associate pastor of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
