KANAWHA -Bernice L. Asbe, 81, of Kanawha, died Saturday (Sept. 9, 2000) at the Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kanawha Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Breen and the Rev. Curtis Miner officiating. Burial will be in the Norway Township Cemetery, near Kanawha.

INDIA ANN ESSER

RUDD - India Ann Esser, 23, a resident of 1654 Foothill Ave., Rudd, died Sunday morning (Sept. 10, 2000) in a single automobile accident near Rudd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd, with the Rev. Debra Stowers and the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, where family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 South Main St., Charles City, and visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

India Ann Esser was born Nov. 11, 1976, in Sioux City, the daughter of James and Linda (Baehne) Esser. She graduated from Rockford Senior High School in 1995. She was employed at Graham Manufacturing in Mason City. Some of her achievements were Junior and Senior Showmanship at the Floyd County Fair, being on the honor roll in high school and being on the basketball team and the volleyball squad. She loved livestock and spending time with her son, Rocky. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Most of all she will be missed by her son and her youngest sister, Billie.

Living family members include her son, Rocky Esser, at home; her parents, Jim and Linda Esser of Rudd; three sisters, Angela Riley of Norwood, N.J., Terri Price of Iowa Falls and Billie Esser of Rudd; her grandmothers, Neva Baehne of Charles City and Darlene Lambert of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Harold Baehne, Leo "Bud" Esser, Alvin Lambert, and great aunt Rem Eichmeier and other beloved family members.

DR. RICHARD PAUL KOENEN

HAMPTON - Dr. Richard Paul Koenen, 69, of Hampton died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Wayne Dobratz officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Richard Paul Koenen was born Dec. 19, 1930, to Harm J. and Louise (Sahr) Koenen. He graduated from Franklin Consolidated High School in 1950. He served his country in the United States Marines Corps during the Korean War.

He married Mary Jane Pralle on Nov. 27, 1954, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer. He attended Palmer College of Chiropractic receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1958. He since has practiced in Alabama, Louisiana and Iowa, the last 27 years serving the people of Hampton and the surrounding communities. He was very dedicated to his profession and enjoyed helping his patients. He was also very mechanical and spent many hours in the garage "fixing." He was a great motivator and supporter of his children and grandchildren, especially enjoying their sports and musical activities. He was baptized at Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the American Legion.

Living members of his family are his wife, Mary Jane; six children, Dr. Jack Koenen of Forest City, Dr. Jeane Koenen of Atchison, Kan., Jane and Dan Allen of Newton, Dr. James and Pam Koenen of Hampton, Dr. Jeffrey Koenen of Des Moines, and Dr. Jay Koenen of Newton; two brothers, Maynard and his wife, Marilyn Koenen; and Dr. Leonard and wife, Shirley Koenen; and six grandchildren, Travis and Tara Allen, Emily and Evan Koenen, and Alexis and Samantha Koenen,

ERVIN N. OGLAND

INDIANOLA - Ervin N. "Erv" Ogland, 75, of Indianola, died Friday (Sept. 1, 2000) at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola, with military rites to follow services at the church.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11 a.m. on Saturday in the fellowship room at the church.

Overton Funeral Home, 501 W. Ashland Ave., Indianola, is in charge of arrangements. The body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Memorial contributions may be given to his church, the Iowa Heart Association or the Warren County Conservation Board in his memory.

Ervin N. Ogland was born Aug. 22, 1925, to Edwin and Nellie (Dueland) Ogland, on a farm near Eagle Grove in Wright County.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aviation ordinance man in the Pacific Theater and in Africa.

Following the war, he worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City before moving to Indianola in 1965. He was a production foreman for McCoy and Kayot Manufacturing and later worked in their research and development department. Following their closing in Indianola, he worked 17 years as a stationary engineer at the Indianola Light Plant, retiring at age 62.

He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 165 in Indianola.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Indianola; daughter, Suzann Ogland Hand of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Ed, of Toledo, Iowa; three sisters, Anna Trotter of Des Moines, Mildred Knight of Clarion and Helen Russell, of Twin Lakes, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

FRANKLYN BUSEMAN

KLEMME - Funeral services for Franklyn Buseman will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme with the Rev. Donna J. Buckman officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 625.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Klemme and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Franklyn Buseman, the son of Henry and Margaret (Rhodes) Buseman, was born Feb. 16, 1918, on a farm south of Garner. He graduated from Klemme High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in the Army Air Corps. He departed for England on Nov. 23, 1942, and reenlisted on Sept. 2, 1943. He returned to the United States on May 9, 1945.

While on leave he was united in marriage to Marilyn Back on June 14, 1945, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ parsonage in Klemme. He was separated at the AAF Separation Base in Santa Ana, Calif., on Dec. 22, 1945.

They farmed in the Goodell and Klemme areas, retired to Belmond and spent the past 30 winters in Weslaco, Texas. He moved to the Prairie View Apartments in Garner in 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion, served on the Klemme School Board and Klemme Elevator Board and was a member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ.

Franklyn died on Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Those thankful for sharing his life are his daughters, Lynette Nuehring and her husband, Harley, of Kanawha, and Sheri Williams and her husband, Jack, of Waukee; grandchildren, Brian Nuehring and his wife, Heather, of San Antonio, Texas, Corey Nuehring and his wife, Michelle, of Cedar Rapids, and Meridie and Keith Williams, of Waukee; great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Grace; a sister, Leona Priebe of Clear Lake; and a sister-in-law, Betty Buseman of Clear Lake.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marilyn; brother, Francis Buseman; sister, Esther Schlawin; and brothers-in-law, Art Schlawin and Albert Priebe.

VIVIAN L. KELLY

MASON CITY - Vivian L. Kelly, 90, of Mason City, died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemebery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a St. Veronica's Circle rosary beginning at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Newman Schools Foundation or to Hospice of North Iowa, in memory of Vivian L. Kelly.

Vivian Louise Kelly was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Mason City. She married Charles Bernard Kelly on Oct. 17, 1931, in Mason City.

Vivian graduated from Mason City High School in 1927. She and her husband lived in Clear Lake for seven years, until 1938, when they began farming northeast of Mason City. Vivian loved living on the farm and being outdoors. In the summer of 1997, she moved into the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.

Her grandfather, George Wilson, fought in the Civil War. She proudly helped substantially fund the restoration of the Civil War Monument in Mason City's Central Park.

Vivian was fiercely independent, yet she was a kind and generous person with many, many friends. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Veronica's Circle.

She was survived by various distant relatives of her husband, Charles; and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died on Aug. 22, 1982.

JOHN R. JAMES

CLEAR LAKE - John R. James, 81, 2515 S. Lakeview Drive, Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2000) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.

The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services on Friday at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.

The body is being cremated. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given in his name to Hospice of North Iowa, the Salvation Army Adult Day Care or the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.

John R. James was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Mason City, the son of Raymond L. and Gail (Elder) James. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1936, Mason City Junior College in 1938 and Iowa State University in 1941 with a degree in architectural engineering.

Following graduation he worked for Goodyear Air Craft Co. in Akron, Ohio, and Litchfield Park, Ariz. James married Virginia Dehr on May 2, 1942, in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

He served in the U.S. Navy from April 1944 to May 1946. After his discharge they moved back to Mason City where he joined his brother in James Refrigeration Co. He retired in 1985 and spent the last 15 winters in Texas and Arizona.

James was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, and the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity at Iowa State University. He enjoyed golfing and work.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia James, of Clear Lake; three children, Jacquelyn Simon and her companion, Tim Phalen, of Mason City, Richard James and his wife, Mary, of Galesburg, Ill., and Dori James and her husband, Steve Musson, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Jeff Simon, Jennifer Simon Preston, Jonathon James, Joshua James, Patrick James and Zachary James; two brothers, Thomas F. James and his wife, Frances, of Little Rock, Ark., and Elder N. James and his wife, Barbara, of Tucson, Ariz.; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

JOHN 'JACK' KRULL

BRITT - John "Jack" Krull, 89, of Ankeny, formerly of Britt and Crystal Lake, died Monday (Sept. 11, 2000) at the Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny from complications of pneumonia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, with Pastor Wendy Trone officiating. Interment will be at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

John "Jack" Herbert Krull, the son of Herman and Grace (Radamaker) Krull, was born March 10, 1911, at Titonka. He attended rural schools in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota.

On June 1, 1935, he married Minnie Liverca at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed north of Britt for most of their life. He loved farming and his family. Jack was a past rural director of Crystal #9 rural school and was a member of Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie, of Ankeny; eight children, Larry Krull and his wife, Vi, of Anamosa, Carol Krull Stone and her husband, Marvin, of Grinnell, Gene Krull and his wife, Mary, of Minneapolis, Minn., Sharon K. Drake Lonsdale and her husband, Tom, of Ames, Dennis Krull and his wife, Dima, of Ankeny, Donna Krull Ennis and her husband, Pat, of Clarion, Janet Krull Drake and her husband, Steve, of Ankeny and Linda Krull Bennett and her husband, Norm, of Dexter; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward "Dutch" Krull, of Thompson; and a sister, Betty Powles, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Krull of Iron Mountain, Mich. and Rosella "Lindy" Krull of Scarville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, David Krull; a sister, Helen Kellen; and two brothers, Fim "Swede" Krull and Herman Krull.

A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

BANCROFT - Robert L. "Bob" Ortman, 52, of Bancroft, died Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2000) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

STEVEN PAUL EEKHOFF

KANAWHA - Steven Paul Eekhoff, 46, of Kanawha, passed away Monday (Sept. 11, 2000) as the result of a farm accident near Kanawha.

Funeral services for Steve Eekhoff will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the West Hancock High School in Britt, with Pastor Charles Walton officiating. Burial will be in the Wright Christian Reformed Church Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and one hour prior to services at the high school.

Steve, the son of Paul and Jennie Boverhuis Eekhoff, was born May 5, 1954, in Belmond. He grew up in the Kanawha area and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1972. Steven then attended Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove.

Steve was united in marriage with Connie Lynn Burgardt on April 11, 1981, at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Britt and Forest City. They later moved to Missouri where Steve raised livestock and was employed by Premium Standard Farms. The family then moved to the Kanawha area where Steve farmed until the time of his death.

Steve was a loving father who enjoyed watching his children participate in sports. He loved visiting and having coffee with his many friends. Steve was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.

Steve was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. His faith was very important to him. He was a former member of the Pork Producers Board.

Steve is survived by his wife, Connie Lynn; three children, Ben, Linda and Jessica, all at home; parents, Paul and Jennie Eekhoff, of Kanawha; two sisters, Ruth Greving and her husband, Mark, of Alton, and Diane Amonson and her husband, Kyle, of Eagle Grove; one brother, Dean Eekhoff and his wife, Lynette, of Holland, Mich.; grandmother, Louise Boverhuis, of Hollandale, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandfathers.

LOREN CLIFFORD JERDET

HOLLANDALE, Minn. - Loren Clifford Jerdet, 84, of Hollandale, died Tuesday evening (Sept. 12, 2000) at his home. He was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Mower County, Minn., to Clarence and Randi Ginellia (Miller) Jerdet.

Loren attended Red Oak Grove School and worked as a farm laborer. Serving in the U.S. Army from March 5, 1942, until Nov. 29, 1944, he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for the Battle of Naples-Foggia and served in the European Theatre and European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre, where he received a campaign ribbon and good conduct ribbon.

After the war, Loren farmed for many years. He lived in California and was a chauffeur for Randolph Hearst, of the San Francisco Examiner-Chronicle.

On Aug. 11, 1960, he married Flo Horn in Santa Rosa, Calif. They moved to the Midwest, living in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa were Loren was a self-employed truck driver, driving for Ulland Brothers Construction.

They spent the last 16 years in Hollandale where he enjoyed gardening, playing his fiddle and spending time with family and his dogs.

He belonged to the VFW Post 29 in Petaluma, Calif.; Military Order of the Purple Heart in Petaluma, Calif.; Moose Lodge; DAV-Clayton Iverson Post 16 in Albert Lea and Union Local #160.

Survivors include his wife, Florine "Flo" Jerdet, of Hollandale, Minn.; sons, Mark Jerdet (Kim) of Medford, Ore., Robert Horn II (Diana) of Scarville, and Duane Hinderaker of Hartland; daughter, Laurie Jerdet-DeBoer (Troy), of Hollandale, Minn.; four grandchildren, Robert Horn III, Jason Horn, Amy Horn and Matt Jerdet; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Haley Horn; one brother, Joel Jerdet (Jerry) , of Blooming Prairie; and one sister, Kemma Johnson, of Burnsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Zachary DeBoer; two brothers, Kenneth and Ronald; brother-in-law, Ingmund Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin, Minn., with the Rev. Myrwood Bagne officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

WILLIAM F. WERNER

MASON CITY - William F. Werner, 86, of 1128 Eastmoor Drive, died Monday (Sept. 11, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Elks service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

William F. Werner was born Aug. 12, 1914, in Dubuque, the son of Frank and Lydia (Wirth) Werner. He graduated from Dubuque High School and Bayless Business College, as well as the Ag Credit School in Ames and the School of Banking in Madison, Wis. He had lived in Mason City since 1936.

Bill was united in marriage with Ruth K. Gere on May 13, 1939, at Summit Congregational Church in Dubuque. He entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.

Bill worked for 30 years at the United Home Bank, now Bank of America. He retired Aug. 31, 1979.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as church treasurer.

He liked gardening and was known for his large garden. William was very active in the community. He was a member of the Kiwanis. He contributed his talents to the Winnebago Council of Boy Scouts for over 40 years as well as serving as president. He was treasurer and a board member of the Cancer Society, Board of the Red Cross, and Builders Exchange. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, and served on the board of the United Way. He also served on the Fair Board, the Board of Adjustment, served as the Mason City Treasurer and was president of the Senior Chamber.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Mason City; a son, William W. Werner and his wife, Billie Lou, of Marion; one daughter, Barbara Meeker, of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Tara Overschmidt and her husband, Jim, of Florissant, Mo., Julie Fitzpatrick and her husband, Scott, of Cedar Rapids, and Sebrina Meeker, of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Elizabeth Overschmidt; and one sister, Martha Werner, of Dubuque.

JEROME V. LARSON

NORA SPRINGS - Jerome V. Larson, 57, of Tucson, Ariz., and formerly of Nora Springs, died Sunday (Sept. 10, 2000) at the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration Care Systems in Tucson.

Jerome was born July 30, 1943, near Rudd in Floyd County, the son of Vernon and Adelaide (Wamstad) Larson. He graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1961 and attended Mason City Junior College.

He served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by ATT. Later he returned to school and graduated from Iowa State University. He has lived in Tucson for the last eight years.

Graveside committal services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Military rites will be at the graveside by the Osage American Legion Post 278.

He is survived by his mother, Adelaide Larson, of Nora Springs; three sisters, Carole Sours and husband, Roy, of West Des Moines, Ellen White and her husband, Stuart, of Garland, Texas, and Susan Saunders and her husband, Daniel, of Hopkins, Minn.; three brothers, Dennis Larson and his wife, Cheryl, of Tucson, Ariz., David Larson and his wife, Diane, of Lakeland, Fla., and Joel Larson and his wife, Jeannine, of Nora Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon, in 1992.

MAYNARD C. NIELSEN

CLEAR LAKE - Maynard C. Nielsen, 92, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday 1:30 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Friday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Maynard was born Aug. 25, 1908, in Miller, Iowa the son of Martin and Hilda (Evenson) Nielsen. He attended school in Miller. Maynard married Loretta Kelly on June 25, 1930, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City. Following their marriage they moved to Forest City to live.

Maynard worked at the hatchery in Forest City and later worked for the Forest City Produce picking up eggs. Later he sold eggs on his own. After retiring he worked part time as custodian for the Forest City School and did cleaning at Bowen's grocery.

In 1981 they moved to Ventura, Iowa, and lived there until 1989 and then moved to Clear Lake, Iowa.

Maynard enjoyed pitching horseshoes, shooting pool at the Clear Lake Senior Citizens, fishing, playing cards, photography and watching the birds while living by the marsh in Ventura.

During his stay at the Oakwood Care Center he was nominated Valentine King and was also resident of the month in February. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Maynard is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Meyers and her husband, Steve, of Clear Lake; two sons-in-law, Shaun McDaid, of Mason City, and Dick Schmidt, of Crete, Neb.; one sister, Ruby Lenz, of Garner; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

His parents; two daughters, Marilyn McDaid and Janette Schmidt; one son, Gerald Nielsen; his wife, Loretta, in 1999; great-granddaughter, Breanne White; and one sister, Pearl Golbuff, preceded him in death.

DOROTHY INGLEDUE

ROCKWELL - Dorothy M. Gaffney Ingledue, 87, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Rockwell, died Monday afternoon (Sept. 11, 2000) at the Palms, in Sebring, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Leo Riley officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on April 23, 1913, in Rockwell, the daughter of Elmer H. and Lillian (Kelly) Gibson. She graduated from the Rockwell Schools.

In 1930 she was married to John "Jack" Gaffney and to this union were born three children. Later she was wed to Carl Ingledue in 1970.

Dorothy worked in sales for the Sears Roebuck company, living in Des Moines, Omaha and Cleveland. She then started a successful company called Gibson Gals which was a nursing registry. She continued this business until her death. In 1990 she moved to Sebring Florida to be near her daughter.

Those thankful in sharing the life of Dorothy include her daughter, Anne J. and her husband, Tony Castro, of Sebring, Fla; two sons, John R. "Dick" and his wife, Lucille Gaffney, of Swaledale, and Robert F. and his wife, Frances Gaffney, of Tularosa, N.M.; 11 grandchildren, Randall, Edward, Terry, Jeannie, Michael, Karen, Vicky, Denise, Paul, Kurt and Robert; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert and his wife, Marge Gibson, of Mason City; one aunt, Lou Sturges, of Rockwell; and many nieces and nephews.

CLEAR LAKE - Florence Rose Jante, 72, of 607 North Shore Drive, died Thursday (Sept. 14, 2000) at her home.

Florence Rose Jante was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Goodell, daughter of Roy and Sadena (Green) Cline. She was united in marriage to Curtis R. Jante on Aug. 25, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Garner. Together, they farmed in the Garner area until 1956.

Curtis and Florence built the A&W Restaurant in Belmond and operated it until 1961 when they sold the business. They purchased the A&W Restaurant in Forest City and operated it until 1989. She and her husband, Curtis, moved to Clear Lake in January 1989.

Florence loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the P.E.O. Club and the TTT Sorority.

She is survived by one son, Ray Jante and his wife, Jan, Keokuk; two daughters, Linda Dickson and her husband, Jim, Ankeny, and Sherill Moen and her husband, Dan, Coralville; eight grandchildren, Teri Jo Peterson, Eddy Jante, Billie Jante, Brett Jante, Meghan Dickson, Guy Dickson, Jeremie Moen and Lyndsey Moen; four great-grandchildren, Teri Lynn Peterson, Samantha Peterson, Colton Jante and Autumn Moen; two sisters, Dorothy Tisch, Santee, Calif., and Alice Jacobmeyer and her husband, Howard, Belmond; and several nieces and nephews.

BRITT - Evelyn Lillian Holck, 78, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Saturday. At 7 p.m. today, the Catholic Workman Lodge will recite a rosary and at 7:30 p.m., a parish wake service will begin at the funeral chapel.

Evelyn Lillian (Wellik) Holck was born July 25, 1922, to Frank G. and Lillian (Hejlik) Wellik on a farm in Liberty Township. On Oct. 4, 1944, she married Lloyd Holck at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed north of Britt from 1944 to 1954.

After moving to town, Evelyn did ironing for people, worked as a cook at the grade school for eight years and did janitorial work at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Evelyn also worked at the Kum & Go, making donuts in the early morning hours.

Evelyn's interests included her flower garden, crocheting, embroidering, making quilts for her grandchildren and having coffee with her friends at Mary Jo's Hobo House. She took much joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, the Ladies Guild and the Duncan Catholic Workman.

She is survived by her children, Arlene Christensen and her husband, Jerry, of Britt, Larry and his wife, Corinne, of Clear Lake, Tom and his wife, Sharon, of Quincy, Ill., and Mary Ryckman and her husband, Don, of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Bill Holck, Amy Boekelman, Casey Holck, Ryan Holck, Brad Ryckman, Steve Holck, Brian Ryckman, Kevin Holck and Ian Holck; two great-grandchildren, Malory and Benjamin Holck; her mother, Lillian Wellik; three sisters, Marie Loebig of Mason City, Rose Huges and her husband, Tom, of Britt, and Marcella Doughan of Algona; one brother, Frank E. NORTHWOOD - Roland "Sonny" George Glaser, 82, died Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, with military graveside honors performed by members of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post No. 6779.

"Sonny" was born May 4, 1918, in New Ulm, Minn., the son of Joseph and Anna (Penkert) Glaser. He attended school in New Ulm and served in the U. S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946.

On July 2, 1937, he married Anita Schwartz in New Ulm.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood. He enjoyed his family, playing cards, fishing, crossword puzzles, reading and woodworking.

INEZ MCCORMICK

GARNER - Inez McCormick, 100, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Interment will be in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, with a Rosary Society rosary at 6 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.

Inez Rosella McCormick, the daughter of William and Anna (Soales) Shaver, was born June 5, 1900, in Springfield, Ill. She moved with her family at an early age to the Goodell area, then to South Dakota and finally to the Garner area. She attended school at Garner.

On July 4, 1918, she was married to Michael Leroy McCormick at Clear Lake. They made their home in Garner where they raised their family. In 1954 they moved to Belmond, returning to Garner in 1961 where they retired.

Inez had lived at Prairie View Apartments in Garner before moving to the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.

Inez enjoyed her family, friends, playing cards and reading books. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Garner Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her children, Cleo Anderson of Mason City, Dan McCormick and his wife, Joyce, of Garner, Ruth Kilgore of Klemme, Reta Kerdus and her husband, Bill, of Mason City, and Jean Malley and her husband, David, of Clermont; two daughters-in-law, Myrtle McCormick of Santa Maria, Calif., and Patricia McCormick of Fertile; 18 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
