The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Olson officiating. Marvieu (Hanson) Mennenga, the daughter of Martin and Suzanna (Osman) Hanson, was born July 2, 1913, in Belmond.

She taught school in Blairsburg before marrying Alfred Mennenga on Sept. 14, 1941. She dedicated the rest of her energetic life to raising and instilling her values into the lives of their five J's-Jay, Janis, Jerry, Jean and Jack, all growing up in the same house where their mother and dad lived for 53 years. Next to her personal faith in Christ, her husband and her family came next. When her children were of college age, she finished college, earning her bachelor of arts degree at the age of 50. She then went back to teaching in the Belmond area, so her children could have the benefit of college education.

Marvieu exemplified her faith by having daily devotions and being active in many church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church, including serving as Sunday school superintendent. She pioneered a neighborhood Bible study that continued for about 20 years. She was involved in such activities as serving several terms on the Belmond School Board, including president, and led a campaign to "clean up" comic books sold in the local stores.

The favorite times as children were gathering around the kitchen table, eating dad's popcorn and reminiscing about our favorite stories. As they left home, this sense of sharing and stability continued with their annual "swim weekends," initiated by mother. Her 10 grandchildren brought her much joy in her later years.

Marvieu peacefully joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of Oct. 30, after living a full life of 87 years, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, where she has been a resident for more than five years.

She is survived by all her five children, Jay Mennenga and his wife, Sherrie, of Wapiti, Wyo., together with Jay's daughters, Heather DeJaeger and her husband, Myles, and Heidi, all of Des Moines, Janis and Tom Reisetter and their children, Matthew and his wife, Jen, Luke and Meena of Cedar Falls, Jerry and Carol Mennenga of Iowa City, Jean and Mark Reisetter and their children, Jed, Jonathan and Mariam of Lewiston, Minn., and Jack and Bonnie Mennenga and their children, Aaron and Brad, of Finchford, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Gail Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn., Grace Wolf of Dawson, Minn., Minnie Mennenga, Alma Mennenga and Janet Boelman, all of Belmond; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Linehan of Marshalltown.

Marvieu was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Alfred; her brother, Verdell; and a sister, Verone.

Mother is now in heaven with her loved ones. We await our glorious reunion with her in the clouds!
