ADOLPH J. HAYEK

CRESCO - Adolph J. Hayek, 82, died Saturday (Feb. 19, 2000) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday at Assumption Worship Center, Cresco. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cresco.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home in Cresco and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday. There will a rosary beginning at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Adolph is survived by 13 children, Adolph W. of Washington, D.C., James of Hoodsport, Wash., JoAnn Andera of Manly, Joseph, Jerome, Julius and Joyce Kapler, all of Cresco, Jacqueline Reisner of Winterset, Jay of Strandquist, Wash., Jean of Kent, Wash., Jane Steffen of Decorah, Janet Hodges of Harmony, Minn., and Julie Hayek of Royal Oak, Mich.; 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Hayek of Spillville; and two sisters, Edith Balk of Waucoma and Marcella Blong of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, on Oct. 19, 1996; one son, John; one brother, Raymond; and one sister, Levina Lentz.

MINNIE EILERS

ALLISON - Minnie Eilers, 89, died Thursday (Feb. 17, 2000) at Allison Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Trinity Reformed Church in Allison with the Rev. Steve Petroelje officiating. Burial will be in Allison Cemetery.

DELORES "DEE" SLETTEN

MASON CITY - Delores "Dee" Sletten, 75, peacefully passed from this life into the loving arms of the Father on Saturday (Feb. 19, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. David Andersen and the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Dee was born Aug. 14, 1924, in rural Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Goldie (Smith) Carlson. She was baptized on June 14, 1925, and reaffirmed her faith in confirmation on July 17, 1938, at the Skein Lutheran Church, rural Sloan. Dee graduated from Sloan Consolidated High School in 1942.

On March 14, 1947, she married Robert Franklin Denney. To this union two daughters were born. During this time, Dee pursued an education in nursing home administration by attending Western Iowa Technical School in Sioux City and the University of Iowa. She also completed a home-study course through George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

Dee was on the American Registry of Medical Assistants and in 1970 was among the first group required to be licensed by State Board Examinations. She was employed as an administrator of Elmwood Care Center in Onawa for 16 years before relocating to Manly and assuming the administrator position at the Manly Care Center for nine years, from which she retired.

Delores married Marvin Sletten on Nov. 30, 1991, at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City. They lived in Manly until they relocated to Mason City in February 1998.

Dee was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 11C and a past member of the Manly Study Club and the Manly 500 Club. She was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Love Circle. Dee loved traveling, camping, playing cards, crafting and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin, of Mason City; two daughters, Levida "Lee" Clough and her husband, E. Michael, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Linda Harnish of Manly; one sister, Jean Hadden and her husband, Lewis, of Castana; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven stepchildren, David Sletten and his wife, Susan, of Farmington, Minn., Janice Reynoldson and her husband, Dennis, of Mason City, Connie Steinlicht of Britt, Charlotte Milan and her husband, Terry, of Bismarck, N.D., Mervin Sletten and his wife, Ann, of Mason City, Rod Sletten and his wife, Fran, of Lexington, N.C., and Patty Bierl and her friend, Van Evans, of Nora Springs; 16 step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grandson, one step son-in-law, and one step-granddaughter.

JOHN HENRY STEINBERG

CLEAR LAKE - John Henry Steinberg, 78, of 708 Third Ave. N., died Saturday (Feb. 19, 2000) at his home in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Full military rites will be performed at graveside by Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and until service time on Tuesday. At 6 p.m. today there will be a Masonic service by the Masonic Benevolence Lodge No. 145, A. F. & A.M. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice in memory of John Steinberg.

John Henry Steinberg was born March 28, 1921, in Mason City, the son of Edwin and Lorinda (Marshall) Steinberg. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1939.

John served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater from August 1942 through November 1946. He was recalled briefly in 1951 during the Korean Conflict.

John was united in marriage with Ethel Lorine George on June 26, 1954, in Mason City. They lived in Mason City before moving to Clear Lake in 1957. John was a Prudential Agent for more than 20 years before retiring in 1981.

John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, a life member of the Masonic Benevolence Lodge No. 145 A. F. & A.M. in Mason City and the V.F.W.

John is survived by his wife, Ethel Lorine Steinberg, Clear Lake; a son, Robert Steinberg, Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Bonnie Christensen and her husband, John, St. Charles, Mo.; four grandchildren, Sharai Steinberg, Sedalia, Mo., Jason Christensen and his wife, Sherry, O'Fallen, Mo., Erin Christensen, Ballwin, Mo. Andrew Christensen, St. Charles, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Kjesten Christensen, O'Fallen, Mo; two sisters, Esther Hauer, Arlington, Texas, and Ruth Lambert, Raymore, Mo.; three brothers, Richard Steinberg, Chattanooga, Tenn., Frederick Steinberg, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Thomas Steinberg, Vail, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

LYLE DEAN GOLL

KLEMME - Funeral services for Lyle Dean Goll, 64, of Klemme, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme, with Pastor Mona Burns officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home in Klemme and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Lyle Dean Goll, the son of Alvin and Golda (Moberly) Goll, was born on March 8, 1935, on the Goll family farm east of Klemme. Lyle was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme. He attended and graduated from the Klemme school system in 1952.

Lyle was united in marriage to Gloria Tenold on April 15, 1956, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice.

Lyle loved farming and was a seed corn and soybean salesman for many years. He was very active in his church, serving on the Consistory as a Deacon and an Elder. He was also a 4-H leader.

He began driving school bus for the Klemme school district at the age of 18. He gave up driving school bus for a short time while he was farming more acres, then got back behind the wheel and drove a total of 30 years. The children gave him great joy and he even went so far as to wear a Santa hat and handed out Christmas treats to the kids during the holiday season.

Lyle died from cancer on Monday (Feb. 21, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gloria, of Klemme; a son, Brian Goll, of Klemme; a daughter, Valerie Schmidt and her husband, Phil, of Earlham; five grandchildren, Brandon, Blair and Dalton Goll and Alan and Daniel Schmidt.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Golda.

RICHARDSON, Texas - Melvin E. Williams, 80, of Richardson, formerly of Mason City, died Jan. 29, 2000 at the Baylor Hospital in Richardson, Texas.

Graveside services were held on Feb. 3 at Pine Bluff, Ark.

ARLOINE R. JOHNSON

HAMPTON - Arloine R. Johnson, 82, of Hampton, died Friday (Feb. 18, 2000) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter, with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

CHRISTOPHER TIMOTHY LARSON

WEST BRANCH - Christopher Timothy Larson, 41, of 124 Thomas Drive, died at his home Sunday (Feb. 20, 2000) following a brief illness.

The family will gather for services at a later date. Christopher's cremated remains will be scattered later this summer near Estes Park, Colo.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Emergency Housing Shelter, 331 N. Gilbert St., Iowa City, Iowa 52245.

Christopher was born Feb. 11, 1959 in Des Moines, the son of Ervin and Dorothy Lewis Larson.

He was a 1977 graduate of Mason City High School and had been a construction worker in Iowa, Florida and Colorado.

Christopher enjoyed fishing, hunting and the Rocky Mountains. He will be greatly missed by his parents, his sister, niece, nephew and the extended family.

Survivors include his parents, of West Branch; one sister, Jennifer Larson, of West Branch; one niece, Cassandra Castillo, of West Branch; and one nephew, Jim Madden, of West Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

MARY EVELYN WILLIAMS

RICHARDSON, Texas - Mary Evelyn Williams, 75, of Richardson, formerly of Mason City, died Feb. 7, 2000 at home.

Graveside services were held Feb. 10 at Pine Bluff, Ark.

EVELYN METZGER

MANLY - Evelyn Metzger, 82, of Manly, died Sunday (Feb. 20, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St. Manly and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

The family of Evelyn Metzger has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in her memory.

Evelyn Metzger was born on May 24, 1917, in rural Grafton, the daughter of Carl and Edna (White) Kuntz. She attended and received her education in the rural country schools near Grafton.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Metzger on May 19, 1946, in the former Methodist parsonage in Manly. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1971. After their marriage together they farmed in the Worth County area for 25 years until her husbands death before moving into Manly in the spring of 1972.

After moving to Manly she was a cook at the Gordon Taylor Auctioneer College and also worked at a restaurant in Manly until her retirement. After her retirement, when she was in her early 60s, she completed her G.E.D. educational requirement.

She enjoyed traveling, making candles, sewing, gardening and flowers.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Friendship Church circle and the Rebecca's Club all in Manly.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Phillip Metzger and his wife, Kathleen, of Bellvedere, Ill.; three granddaughters, Erin, Shannon and Megan Metzger, all of Bellvedere, Ill.; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Janice Metzger, who died on Jan. 28, 1980.

ARTHUR P. RODRIGUEZ

MASON CITY - Arthur P. Rodriguez, 73, of 228 Parkridge Dr., Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 20, 2000) at his home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

His family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa, in memory of Arthur P. Rodriguez.

Arthur P. Rodriguez was born May 19, 1926, in San Antonio, Texas, son of Manuel Louis and Audelia (Legorretta) Rodriguez. At an early age Art moved to Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1945. At his 50th High School class reunion, he served as Master of Ceremonies.

He married Patricia A. Gelner on Jan. 29, 1949 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Art had a passion for music especially for Latin and jazz. He loved dancing with his wife, Pat. He enjoyed hunting, boating at Clear Lake, playing pool and he was an avid fan of Championship Boxing.

Art was the first Real Estate Salesman in Mason City. In 1951 he started Rodriguez Realty and had just recently retired from this family business.

Art served as president of the greater Mason City Board of Realtors and was highly respected by his Realtor friends. He was also a longtime member of Mason City Chamber of Commerce and was interested in Mason City local government and development.

Art was past president of the Mason City Exchange Club and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Art is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Mason City; one son, Randy Rodriguez, of Mason City; one daughter, Cynthia Willemsen and her husband, Robert, of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Heather Rodriguez, of Mason City, Robert, Portia and Devon Rodriguez, all of Ames, Catherine Rodriguez, of Mason City and Gregory and Alex Myers, both of Mason City; two stepgrandchildren, Emily and David Willemsen, of Mason City; one great-grandaughter, McClaren Rodriguez, of Mason City; one brother, Peter Rodriguez, of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Jovita Garcia and her husband, Al, of Watsonville, Calif., Audelia MacGregor and her husband, Henry, of Walnut Creek, Calif., Renee Waide and her husband, Gene, of Capitola, Calif., and Jenny Sillano, of Medford, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert; and two brothers, Richard and Manuel Rodriguez Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.

STANLEY E. ZIESMER

GARNER - Stanley E. Ziesmer, 83, of Garner, passed away Monday (Feb. 21, 2000) at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Clyde Kieschnick and Robert Bronson officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St. in Garner and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Stanley Edward Ziesmer, the son of Edward and Anna (Herzog) Ziesmer, was born April 29, 1916 on a farm near Ventura. He moved to Garner with his family at an early age where he was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated from Garner High School in 1935.

Stan served his country in the U.S. Army from March of 1942 to October of 1945, in Austria, Belgium, France, Holland, Luxembourg and Germany. He celebrated victory in Europe with Leon Lemke also from Garner.

In 1941, he married Helen Griggs at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Helen passed away in 1967.

On Aug. 19, 1976, he married Charlotte Busch in Missouri. Stan worked for E. G. Greiman Construction for several years and then owned and operated the Ziesmer Livestock Trucking Company for over 40 years. He also delivered trucks for IMT for many years.

Stan was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner American Legion, Garner VFW and the Garner Rotary Club. He was a former member of the Garner Chamber of Commerce, Prairie View Board and was active in Scouting.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ziesmer, of Garner; three children, Mary Ann Linneman and her husband, Fred, of Lakewood, Colo., Michael Ziesmer and his wife, Kathy, and their children, Kaitlin and Zachary, all of Littleton, Colo. and John Ziesmer, of Castle Rock, Colo.; a stepson, Tom Busch and his sons, Bob and Tommy, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Betty Lovick, of Albert Lea, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Darlene Ziesmer, of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; his parents; a brother, Dennis Ziesmer; two sisters, Maxine Anderson and Beverly Dickey; and a stepdaughter, Jeanette McCoy Bartell.

ROBERT J. 'BOB' PIERCE

MASON CITY - Robert J. "Bob" Pierce, 72, of 419 S. Fillmore Ave., died Monday (Feb. 21, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with the Rev. David Anderson, of St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Flag folding ceremonies will be by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel.

The family suggests memorials to the Robert J. Pierce Memorial Fund.

Bob was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Alpha, Minn., the son of David and Alphia L.M. (Bayliss) Pierce. He graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1945 in Hanlontown, Iowa. He worked at Deckers in Mason City prior to entering the Army during World War II.

Bob married Marlyss Huff in 1951. He lived most of his life in Mason City and worked at LeHigh Cement Company for over 38 1/2 years retiring in 1989.

On Feb. 16, 1972, he married Arlene Ulrich in Canton, S.D. After his retirement from LeHigh, he and his wife, Arlene operated an antique store in Goodell and enjoyed going to flea markets held at the fairgrounds.

He raised rabbits for 30 years. He was very involved with the River City Tri Club and his handle was Horse Trader. He was a member of the American Legion Post 101, was a charter member and past president of the Eagles Lodge in Mason City and 106 Cement Lime and Gypsum Workers Union.

Mary Elizabeth "Bessie" Riehm, the daughter of Frank and Barbara (Surat) Kratochvil, was born March 25, 1916 at Britt. She was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. She attended school at Britt graduating in 1934.

On Jan. 31, 1942, she was married to Fred Wm. Riehm at St. Joseph's Rectory in Mason City. They farmed southeast of Duncan on the home farm, where she lived the rest of her life.

Bessie enjoyed her family, grandchildren, gardening, flowers, corresponding with family and friends, baking and canning.

She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Holy Rosary Society, Hancock County Historical Society and the Garfield Happy Homemakers Club.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ruth Krinhop and her husband, Gary, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Fred M. Riehm and his wife, Penny, of Loveland, Colo., Thomas Riehm, of Spirit Lake and his special friend, Rose Spangler and Jeanine Diekhuis and her husband, Jim, of Garner; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Rose Hanson, of Lake Crystal, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Florine Riehm, of Garner and Bernice Eisenman, of Britt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, on Jan. 11, 1969; parents; a sister, Helen Jerrell; and two infant sisters, Mary and Lula Kratochvil.

ALVINA JEANETTE DORENKAMP

MESERVEY - Funeral services for Alvina Jeanette Dorenkamp, 82, of Meservey, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester and the Rev. Herm Gruis, officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Alvina Jeanette (Ostendorf) Dorenkamp, the daughter of Jacob and Carrie (Gruis) Ostendorf was born on Dec. 24, 1917, in Alexander, Iowa. She grew up in the Alexander area and graduated from Alexander High School in 1934.

In 1936, her family moved to Meservey and she became a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey. Alvina attended and graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1941. She went on to teach school at Bagley, Iowa for two years and then in Belmond for one year.

On June 7, 1945, Alvina was united in marriage to Elmer Dorenkamp and the couple moved to Mason City, where they both worked. In 1949 they moved to a farm near Meservey. Alvina then became organist and a Sunday school teacher at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. From there, she went to Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond and became their organist for nearly 30 years. Because of her great love of music, she also gave piano and organ lessons to local students for many years.

Alvina spent several years researching family history. She was also a member of the Meservey Federated Women's Club.

Alvina died on Monday (Feb. 21, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer, of Meservey; two sons and their families, Curtis Dorenkamp and his wife, Skip, of Belmond and their children, Christine, Timothy and Jennifer; and Mike Dorenkamp, of Mason City and his children, John, Julie and Jason; a sister, Dorothy Vos-Voelker and her husband, Don, of Ames; a sister-in-law, Marie Boelman and her husband, Bud, of Belmond; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Luverne Ostendorf; and a sister, Irene Stadtlander.

MABEL O. FUNK

OSAGE - Mabel O. Funk, 101, of Osage, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2000) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. She was born May 26, 1898, in Floyd County, near Rudd, the daughter of Martin and Martha (Gulbrandson) Olson.

Mabel moved with her family in 1910 to Burr Oak Township in Mitchell County, five miles northeast of Osage. She attended the local rural school and graduated from the Osage High School normal training course in 1918.

Mabel taught school for three years before her marriage to Roy C. Funk on June 22, 1921. They made their home on a farm in Burr Oak Township where they lived for 34 years. In April of 1955, they retired and moved to their new home at 721 Ash in Osage.

Mabel was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Osage for many years. She also had been a member of the community M.I. Club since 1921.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Amy, the daughter of Henry and Florence (Gerdis) Meyers, was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Titonka. She grew up and attended school in the Titonka and Hayfield areas.

Amy was united in marriage with John Just on Sept. 18, 1949, in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond where they raised seven children. Amy was a full-time wife and mother who always had a big garden and did a lot of canning.

She loved to collect knick-knacks and rarely missed an auction or garage sale. Amy loved to watch football and basketball and was a big Hawkeye fan.

Amy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

GARNER - William L. Langlitz, 54, of Garner, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer.

William Leonard Langlitz, the son of Ira William and Wava Opal (Wilson) Langlitz, was born Oct. 1, 1945, at Belmond. He attended school at Goodell through the eighth grade and then graduated from Belmond High School in 1963.

He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, being stationed in Germany. Bill worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation before he entered the service and after his discharge until 1972.

On Aug. 1, 1970, he married Sherry J. Lewerke at the Nazarene Church in Britt. They made their home in Garner where he worked for Hancock County Co-op Oil. He was transferred to the Hancock County Co-op Oil branch office in Belmond, where they lived for six years.

In 1984, they moved back to Garner. Bill worked for Food Services of America until health problems forced his retirement.

He enjoyed his family, his granddaughter, friends, classic cars and music.

He was a member of the Nazarene Church and served on the Belmond Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Langlitz of Garner; a son, Tom Langlitz of Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Langlitz and her daughter, Ashley, of Garner; his parents, Ira and Wava Langlitz of Goodell; two brothers, Larry Langlitz and his wife, Gail, of Goodell, and Kenneth Langlitz of Goodell; an uncle, Forrest Langlitz of Klemme; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Trager, on Jan. 18, 1999.

FOREST CITY - Cheryl Quisling, 78, of Forest City, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2000) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Cheryl E. Quisling was born at Crystal Lake on May 7, 1921, the daughter of Pearl and Rosa (Ladd) Benson. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1939 and attended La James Beauty School in Mason City.

Cheryl married Clarence Quisling on July 4, 1943. After his discharge from the service, the couple made their home on a farm west of Forest City.

Cheryl began doing hair at her home and in 1969 moved the shop into Forest City. She and her daughter, Juli, worked together off and on for more than 15 years.

Clarence and Cheryl were members of WIT and enjoyed fishing and camping together. For many years they spent the winter months in Texas.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Forest City and active in circle.

She enjoyed flowers and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a son, Craig Quisling and his wife, Marcia, of Forest City; two daughters, Juli Sinnwell of Forest City and Pam Hargraffen and her husband, Jim, of Delhi; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild soon to be born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence, who died on Nov. 27, 1990; a brother, Vernal, and two sisters, Charlotte and Mary.

ELVIN B. STEINES

ROCKWELL - Elvin B. Steines, 87, of 707 Elm St. E, Rockwell, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2000) at the Rockwell Community Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by Gallagher Post # 208 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. in Rockwell.

Elvin was born on Nov. 27, 1912, in Rockwell, one of three sons, to Frank and Rose (Schear) Steines. He graduated from Rockwell High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with the 104th Engineers, Timberwolf Div., until his honorable discharge in 1945.

In 1947 he moved to Chicago, where he worked as a foreman for the Roth Rubber Company for 25 years. He then moved back to Rockwell to live near his brothers for the past 20 years.

Elvin spent numerous hours helping at the American Legion as a member and former commander. He was also a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Lions Club.

He enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and returning to Chicago occasionally to visit with friends.

Those thankful in sharing Elvin's life include his brother, Howard Steines, of Rockwell; his nephew, Frank and his wife, Marge Steines, of Des Moines; one grand niece, Pam Wendell, of Mason City; one grand nephew, Mark Steines, of Des Moines; and a host of friends.

Elvin was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Raymond, in 1996.

Duane was born on Feb. 2, 1920, in Kensett, the son of Joseph T. and Mary L. (Kipp) Larson. He grew up on farms near the Kensett, Grafton and Bolan areas and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1938.

After graduation, Duane worked on farms until entering the United States Army in September of 1942. He served overseas during World War II on several South Pacific Islands as part of the 150th ORD Motor Vehicle Assembling. Duane was honorably discharged in January of 1946 and returned to Mason City.

He graduated from Hamilton School of Commerce and began working for Andrews Concrete and Ready Mix as a cement truck driver. After his retirement in January of 1981, Duane spent his time volunteering at the Lime Creek Nature Center and the Kinney Pioneer Museum. He also was active at the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed working on cars.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Duane is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Larry Moucha and his wife, Nancy, of Austin, Minn., Ronald Moucha, of Glenville, Minn., Sandra Thompson and her husband, Ray, of Albert Lea, Minn., Jerry Larson and his wife, Amy, of Nedro, N.Y., Byron Larson and Keith Larson, both of Fort Worth, Texas, Floris Yezek and her husband, Vern, and Zelda Groh and her husband, Alan, all of Manly; and many great-nieces and nephews.

The family moved to Clinton Falls, Minn., where he attended the Steele County, Minn. District No. 8 elementary school and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1926. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1932 in its first class of Aeronautical Engineers.

After a two-year employment as a machinist at the American Gas Machine Company in Albert Lea, Minn., and some months at Indianapolis, Ind., he was employed by the U.S. Government at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He retired after 29 years in that capacity and continued to make his home in Dayton.

He enjoyed his activities at the Moraine Airport, flying recreationally and socializing with friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and travel, spending several winters in Florida.

In August of 1997, he suffered a debilitating stroke, making it impossible to continue an independent life. Since his only family was his sister, Annabelle, in Lake Mills, it was decided he would live at the Lake Mills Care Center. There, he enjoyed a degree of independence, reading, walking and visiting.

He is survived by his sister, Annabelle and her husband, Harold Knutsen, of Lake Mills; and one stepbrother, Harold Grunhovd, of Albert Lea, Minn.

Lester was preceded in deaeth by his parents; one brother, Kermit H. Anderson; his stepmother, Alpha Grunhovd Anderson; and one stepbrother, Adolph Grunhovd.

Lester was a good son, a good brother and a child of God!
