Thelma Lucinda Schlichting

BELMOND - Thelma Lucinda Schlichting, 102, of Belmond, formerly of Ventura, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Funeral services for Thelma Schlichting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Paul Hasel of the United Methodist Church in Ventura officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery at Goodell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

Thelma Lucinda Schlichting, the daughter of Alfred C. and Lydia Smith Carpenter, was born Feb. 10, 1897, on the Carpenter farm near Goodell.

Thelma grew up in the Goodell area and graduated from the 10th grade at the Goodell High School. She then went on to Belmond High School and graduated from the 12th grade in 1916. Following graduation from high school, Thelma taught in the Avery and Twin Lake Township country schools.

Thelma was united in marriage with Albert Schlichting on Dec. 27, 1922, at the Carpenter farm near Goodell. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Kanawha. Upon retirement in 1946, the couple moved to their lake home in Ventura, where they continued to live until the time of Albert's death in 1979. Upon the death of her husband, Thelma became a resident at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Thelma was a baptized member of the Goodell United Brethren Church. When the couple moved to Ventura, she transferred her membership to the Ventura United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed tatting, reading and writing letters until her eyesight failed.

Thelma is survived by one sister, Thora Trees, of Belmond; one brother, Richard Carpenter, of Whitethorn, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Jane Carpenter, of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert, in 1979; and three brothers, Lloyd, Harry and Alfred.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given in Thelma's name.

Orville L. Gilson

WATERLOO - Orville L. Gilson, 97, of Waterloo, formerly of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at the Country View Care Center in Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home, 204 Commercial St., in Waterloo, with the Rev. Maynard Hatch of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories in Waterloo.

Frances Laurine McPeek Pearson

VENTURA - Frances Laurine McPeek Pearson 89, of 6 E. Lake St., Ventura, died Thursday (Feb. 10, 2000) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Paul Hasel of the Ventura United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Ventura Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before services on Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Memorials may be given in memory of Frances Laurine McPeek Pearson.

Frances was born Aug. 5, 1910, in Ventura, the daughter of Albert and Inga (Nelson) Goodling. She graduated from Ventura High School in 1928.

Frances married Harold James "Mac" McPeek in September of 1929. After his death on June 19, 1955, she married James Pearson in September of 1957. She owned Verna's Shoppe in Clear Lake for many years. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ventura.

Frances is survived by two daughters, Pat Burns and her husband, Wallace, of Storm Lake and Joann Charipar and her husband, Paul, of North Liberty; four grandchildren, Karen Copley and her husband Fred, of Nogales, Ariz., Peggy Fillio, of Indianola, Debbie Zisko, of Iowa City and Michael Burns, of Eagle Lake, Minn.; three great-grandchildren; and three stepchildren that she helped raise, Judy Unruh and her husband Jerry, of Milton Junction, Wis., Richard Pearson, of Marietta, Ga. and James Pearson, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and seven stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers and one sister.

Theodore 'Ted' Carlson

CARMICHAEL, Calif. - Graveside services for Theodore "Ted" Carlson will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Kensett Cemetery in Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. Hernes of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett officiating.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Theodore "Ted" Carlson, 93, a former Mason City resident, died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000) in Carmichael, Calif.

He resided in the Mason City and St. Ansgar areas for many years. He owned and operated a grocery store in St. Ansgar and later worked for Grupps Food Market in Mason City. He had resided in Carmichael for the past 20 years.

Survivors include a sister, Elsie Peterson; daughter-in-law, Virginia Carlson; grandchildren, Diane and husband, David Wyman and Steven and wife, Marianne Carlson; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are close relatives in Carmichael, Des Moines and Minnesota.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Clara; four brothers, Adolf, Elmer, Albin and Wallace; his wife, Dorothy; and son, Dean.

Kenneth W. Frank

MASON CITY - Kenneth W. Frank, 49, of 713 N. Kentucky Ave., died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A prayer service for family and close friends will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.

The family of Ken will receive friends and family at 5 p.m. Saturday at their home at 713 N. Kentucky Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Kenneth W. Frank.

Kenneth Frank was born June 5, 1950, the son of William and Evelyn (Hoffman) Frank, in Mason City. Ken was a self-employed carpenter in the Mason City area for many years. He married Marcia Troge on Jan. 6, 1986, in Mason City.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge, enjoyed hunting, fishing and visiting with his friends. Ken also was a member of the Iowa Turkey Federation.

Ken is survived by his wife, Marcia Frank, of Mason City; parents, William and Evelyn Frank, of Mason City; daughters, Robin Larson, of Mason City, Kim Wilson, June Bunn, Jennifer Khila, Krys Harper and Amy Frank and their families; sisters, Sandy Frank, Penny Frank, of Mason City, Mindy Smith, of Mason City, and Jodi Kisner and husband, Tracy, of Kensett; special cousin, Diana Holahan and husband, Pat, of Mason City; and several nieces; and many good friends.

Regina (Bissen) Koenigs

STACYVILLE - Regina (Bissen) Koenigs, 91, of Stacyville, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 9, 2000) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Visitation Catholic Church, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Regina (Bissen) Koenigs was born on June 2, 1908, at Johnsburg, Minn. She lost both of her parents when she was very young. She was the daughter of John and Christina (Waldorf) Bissen, one of eight children, all of whom are deceased.

On April 30, 1929, Regina was married to Arnold Koenigs at Meyer. They farmed in the Meyer community until their retirement to Stacyville in 1976. They were the parents of eight children who were their pride and joy. The family enjoyed many get togethers over the many years. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Regina was an avid quilter, enjoying both quilting parties and making quilts by herself. She shared them with her children and relatives. She also enjoyed her garden and flowers.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christina Bissen; her husband, Arnold Koenigs; son, Marvin Koenigs; two granddaughters, Liza Detviler and Mary Streit (Smith); and great-grandson, Curt Heimer.

She is survived by her children, Bonita and husband, John Streit, Mary Ann and husband, Norb Klapperich, and Aggie and husband, Maynard Theobald, all of Stacyville, Geni and husband, Ken Detviler, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Geri and husband, Roger Fisher, of Shakopee, Minn., Giblert and wife, Norma Koenigs, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and Bernie and wife, Judy Koenigs, of Eagle Lake, Minn.; 39 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

DR. WERNER P. PELZ

NASHUA - Dr. Werner P. Pelz, 88, of Nashua, formerly of Charles City, died Thursday morning (Feb. 10, 2000) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City of arteriosclerotic vascular disease.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charles City. Inturnment will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

There will be no visitation. Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family. A memorial fund will be established in Dr. Werner's name.

Dr. Werner P. Pelz was born on Nov. 23, 1911, in Gottingen, Germany, the son of Julius and Sophie (Adler) Pelz. He graduated from the University of Bern in Bern, Switzerland, in 1937, with a medical degree.

He was united in marriage to Edna Frowick on June 8, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1985. He was united in marriage to Donna Head on Oct. 28, 1988.

Dr. Pelz was a medical doctor serving the communities of Lakota and Nashua before starting his practice in Charles City, retiring in 1982.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Nashua; four sons, Dr. Thomas Pelz, of Shawano, Wis., Harlan Pelz and his wife, Gay, of Denver, Colo., James Pelz, of Providence, R.I. and Stephen Pelz and his wife, Veronica, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Kristine Lassleben and her husband, Mark, of Jubilaeumsstrasse Bern, Switzerland; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna M. Pelz on March 18, 1985.

ROGERS, Ark. - Arleigh Paul Geffert, 69, of Rogers, Ark., formerly of St. Ansgar, died Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Toeterville. Graveside services will follow in Toeterville.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.

Arleigh Paul Geffert was born May 7, 1930, the son of Albert and Selma Geffert of Toeterville.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, at home in Rogers, Ark.; two daughters, Shelley Allison and special friend, Jeffrey Buseman, of Mason City, and Vicki and Gary Miller, of Centerton, Ark.; foster daughter, Peggy Phillips, of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; two sons, Terry Geffert, of St. Ansgar, and Brian Geffert, of Lockport, N.Y.; his mother, Selma Geffert, St. Ansgar; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ANNA GROTEWOLD

LAKE MILLS - Funeral services for Anna Grotewold of Lake Mills will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake Mills Synod Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alf Merseth officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Anna T. Holstad Grotewold was born Feb. 27, 1902, the daughter of Lewis Holstad and Theoline Loftus Holstad, in rural Northwood. She was baptized and confirmed at Somber Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1921. After graduation she attended Nettleton Commercial College in Sioux Falls, S.D. While there she met W.S. (Sam) Grotewold.

They were later married on June 7, 1922. They were the parents of five children. They lived in Minneapolis and Ames while Sam attended school. They moved back to northern Iowa and farmed East of Lake Mills until 1926, when they started Grotewold Hatchery, one of the first chick hatcheries in the United States. When Sam became county supervisor in 1932, she managed their hatchery and feed store. After her husband's death in April, 1969, she continued to assist their son Don in the business until 1960. She moved to the Lake Mills Care Center in May, 1993. She was an active member of Synod Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, the American Legion Auxiliary and several other organizations. She was an ambitious, hard working and loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family and life. She enjoyed traveling and being with people. Anna's life-long dedication to Christ and the church have made a lasting impression on her family and those who have known her throughout the years.

Anna passed away Saturday (Feb. 12, 2000) at the Lake Mills Care Center. She had resided in Winnebago County for almost her entire life. She was 97 years, 11 months, and 16 days old at the time of her death.

She is survived by her five children, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; son, Gerald Grotewold and wife, Betty, of Phoenix, Ariz., and their children, Dawn and Mike Milroy, Vicky Holman, and Laura Reynolds; daughter, Yvonne (Bonnie) Johnson and husband, Roy B., of Buffalo Center, and their children, Gary and Joan Johnson, Roy and Judi Johnson (children Kaia and Roy), Jean and Steve Doss, and Dave and Diana Johnson (children, Alexandra and Matthew), daughter, Marjorie Tardiff of Scottsdale, Ariz., and her children, Bill and Louise Graham (children Sarah and David), Kim and David Brown (children William, Dustin and Kristin), Donn Graham and Hayley Lindmark; son, Don S. Grotewold and wife, Doris, of Lake Mills, and their children, W Scott and Susan Grotewold, (children Sam and Ben), Jane and Leon Christianson (children Kari, Kelsey and Cole), Brad and Jeanie Grotewold (children Jessica, Jaclyn and Blake), and Joan and Mike Holst (children Anna, Abby and Rachel), daughter, Ramona Twito and husband, Dean, of Lake Mills and their children, Gretchen and Doug Kingland (children Hunter and Granger), and Mick Twito; sister-in-law, Lillian Holstad of Northwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Grotewold; her brother, Odis Holstad; a grandson, Scott Erling Grotewold; and a son-in-law, Don Graham.

ROBERT A. MORRIS

MASON CITY - Robert A. Morris, 78, of 823 11th St. N.E., died Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. William W. Poland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

There will be no visitation. His body was cremated. Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Arlin Morris was born April 15, 1921, in Nora Springs, son of Moses and Lula (Hoblit) Morris. He married Vivian Rish on May 2, 1943, in Bethany, Mo. Robert entered into the Army on Oct. 4, 1942. He served in the 1st Infantry Division stationed in the North Apennines, Po Valley, and Rome Arno during World War II. He was awarded three bronze stars, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Victory Ribbon, the European-African Middle East Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He moved to Mason City in 1948. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for the past 48 years. He worked for Gamble Robinson for ten years until 1955, when he worked for Carnation Milk Company until 1979. He then worked for Northern Trails Area Education until retiring in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling and working in the yard and garden.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Morris, Mason City; two daughters, Dianne Jarosh and her husband, Charles, Mason City and Sharon Gatenby and her husband, John, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Robert Jarosh, Laramie, Wyo., Jonathan Jarosh, Ames, Chris Jarosh, of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Sara Shaul, Portland, Ore.; two great grandchildren, Justice Jarosh, Ft. Collins, Colo., and Makayla Shaul, Portland, Ore.; and four nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

DAN KAVAYA

INDIO, Calif. - Dan Kavaya, 73, of Indio, Calif., formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 6, 2000) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at St. Stevens Serbian Orthadox Cathedral in Alhambra, Calif. Burial will be in the Serbian United Cemetery, East Los Angeles. Risher Mortuary, 1316 Whittier Blvd., Montebello, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.

Dan Kavaya was born May 30, 1926, in Mason City, the son of Joe and Lubitza Kavaya.

Survivors include one son, Michael Joseph Kavaya, of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Goldie Kavaya; two brothers, Resta Kavaya and Nicholas Kavaya, all of Whittier, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Sarah and Anna Kavaya, both of Huntsville, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

FORT DODGE - Carl Westin, 77, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Kanawha, passed away Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge, with the Rev. Ron Kitterman, of Friendship Haven officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha with military rites under the direction of the American Legion Services Post 77. Services will also be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha, with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gunderson Funeral Chapel, Fort Dodge. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services on Monday at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, Kanawha.

Carl J. Westin was born Jan. 14, 1923, at Kanawha. He was reared and educated in Kanawha and attended township country schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Shelton at Pine City, Minn. He was a retired employee of Celotex.

Lucille Kathryn "Tede" Connelly was born March 2, 1908, in Mason City, the daughter of Thomas and Nora (Kelley) Chute. She was born and raised in Mason City and graduated from St. Joseph High School.

She married Cedric N. Connelly on Aug. 1, 1934, in Mason City. She worked at Aldens and Barons Department Store for many years and then was office manager at Industrial Clean Towel Company until retiring. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and baking. She was a wonderful seamstress and an avid sports fan. She especially loved spending time with her family. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen White, Mason City and Phyllis Hugeback and her husband, Verne, Rochester, Minn.; one son-in-law, Jerry Birdsall, Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren, Michael White and his wife, Ann, of Madison, Wis., Patrick White and his wife, Darla, of Meservey, Lisa Weimer and her husband, Kent, Chantilly, Va., Mark Hugeback and his wife, Tina, Rochester, Minn., Timothy Birdsall and Teresa Birdsall, both of Denver, Colo.; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Juhlin, Mason City; two brothers, Donald Chute of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Chute, of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

MARIA SANTIAGO SCHICK

KATY, Texas - Maria Santiago Schick passed away on Sunday (Jan. 23, 2000) in Katy, Texas.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 27, at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church in Katy, Texas.

Maria was the wife of Edward W. Schick, who grew up in Mason City and Clear Lake. Maria was born on Jan. 11, 1959 in New York City, the daughter of Francisco and Julia Santiago. She has been a resident of New York City, Minneapolis, Houston, Huizen, The Netherlands, and Katy, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Edward W. Schick; sons, Edward John Schick, Robert Francisco Schick and Thomas Steven Schick; her mother, Julia Santiago, of New York City; a brother, Francisco R. Santiago, Jr., of Minneapolis; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francisco Santiago, and her in-laws, Bonnie Nicholas Schick and Edward J. Schick.

MASON CITY - Robert A. Morris, 78, of 823 11th St. N.E., died Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. William W. Poland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

There will be no visitation. His body was cremated. Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St., N.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Arlin Morris was born April 15, 1921, in Nora Springs, son of Moses and Lula (Hoblit) Morris. He married Vivian Rish on May 2, 1943, in Bethany, Mo. Robert entered into the Army on Oct. 4, 1942. He served in the 91st Infantry Division stationed in the North Apennines, PO Valley, and Rome Arno during World War II. He was awarded three bronze stars, the American Theater Campaign ribbon, the Victory Ribbon, the European-African Middle East Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He moved to Mason City in 1948. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for the past 48 years. He worked for Gamble Robinson for 10 years until 1955 when he worked for Carnation Milk Company until 1979, when he then worked for Northern Trails Area Education until retiring in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling and working in the yard and garden.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Morris, Mason City; two daughters, Dianne Jarosh and her husband, Charles, Mason City, and Sharon Gatenby and her husband, John, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Robert Jarosh, Laramie, Wyo., Jonathan Jarosh, Ames, Chris Jarosh of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Sara Shaul Portland, Ore.; two great grandchildren, Justice Jarosh, Ft. Collins, Colo., and Makayla Shaul, Portland, Ore.; and four nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

FORT DODGE - Carl Westin, 77, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Kanawha, passed away Friday (Feb. 11, 2000) at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Carl J. Westin was born Jan. 14, 1923, at Kanawha. He was reared and educated in Kanawha and attended Township country schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On Nov. 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Shelton at Pine City, Minn. He was a retired employee of Celotex.

Ruby May Ward was born Jan. 6, 1910, in Meservey, daughter of Charles J. and Ann Marie (Middlestadt) Quandt. Ruby was raised on a farm near Meservey.

She married Clarence N. Ward in July, 1934, in Clarion. She and her husband farmed for a short while until moving to Mason City where she lived for the past 70 years. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed gardening. She loved her family and especially loved spending time with all her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge.

She is survived by three children, James L. Ward and his wife, Lyla J., Carbondale, Colo., Dorothy Langhoff and her husband, Myron, of Mason City, and Charles Ward and his wife, Linda, of Lexington, N.C.; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Ward, of Mason City; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.

LARRY D. BUSBY

MASON CITY - Larry D. Busby was born Oct. 7, 1948, in Des Moines, to John W. Busby and Louise England Busby of Clearfield, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm, attending school at Clearfield until his sophomore year. Larry graduated high school at Poudre High in Fort Collins, Colo., and went on to school and became a licensed cosmetologist. In 1968 he entered the U.S. Army and served his tour of duty in Vietnam.

Larry was united in marriage to Deanna Blagg of Fort Collins, Colo., in 1970 and to this union one child was born, Melissa Lee Busby. In 1979 he was married to Kim Flannery of Wessington Springs, S.D. and to this union four children were born, Christopher, Chantel, Clayton and Carter. Larry was a natural salesman, working in sales most of his life, except for a brief stint as a cosmetologist. Most recently, he worked at the Sears Store in Mason City, in the appliance department.

Larry Busby departed this life on Jan. 19, 2000, at the age of 51, at his home. He leaves to mourn his passing, his children, Melissa Hill and husband, Bob, and granddaughter, Brooklyn, of Belmond, Christopher, Chantel, Clayton and Carter Busby of Wessington Springs, S.D.; two sisters, Christene Solomon and husband, Dale, of Evanston, Wyo., Pat Walling and husband, Jim, of Webster City; brother, John C. Busby and wife, Sue, of Clearfield; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. We will all remember him for his quick smile and his willingness to help a friend.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Louise Busby, and his brother-in-law, Larry Morris.

DOUGLAS, Wyo. - Funeral services for Lonnie Dale Bankes, 42, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Converse Funeral Chapel in Douglas, Wyo. with Randy Leiter and Dave Edwards as eulogists. Family scattering of the cremains will take place at a later date.

Mr. Bankes died Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2000) in Denver, Colo.

Lonnie was born March 12, 1957, in Mason City, the son of Darrell and Norma Jean Bankes. Lonnie worked as the cook at LaBonte Hotel for 18 years.

He is survived by four children, Kayla Sorrel, Uriah Bankes, Cathy Whipsey and Christopher Whipsey; one sister, Marcia Frederick, of Manly; and several nieces and nephews.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents.

Percy Kirchner Roseberry was born Dec. 1, 1914 in rural Kaylor, S.D., a son of Edward James and Minnie (Carlson) Roseberry, and died Sunday (Feb. 13, 2000) at his home in Greene of Cancer.

He received his education in the rural schools near Scotland, S.D. and as a young man moved to Cedar Falls where he became employed for Diamond Brothers.

He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Cunningham on March 31, 1937 at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Following their marriage they farmed in the Cedar Falls area and he later worked for both John Deere and as a bus driver in Waterloo. He was later employed as a night watchman and guard for Rath Packing before moving to Beaverton, Ore. in 1966 where he was employed by Tektronics as grounds maintenance until his retirement in October of 1980. Following their retirement, Percy and Mary enjoyed traveling throughout the Unites States and visiting their children and grandchildren. In 1997 they returned to Iowa settling in Greene.

Percy enjoyed collecting and restoring antique clocks and going on fishing trips with family and friends. On one of his many, many adventures, Percy and a fishing buddy spent one night lost in the Oregon Wilderness and survived.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greene.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary, of Greene; four daughters and their spouses, Marian and Richard Jacobs, of Greene, Patricia Leedom, of Oregon City, Alice and Dr. Kenneth Reimer, of Elkader, and Juanita and Tom Myrsiades, of Strasburg, Colo; two sons and their spouses, Robert and Jeannie Roseberry, of Oregon City, Ore., and James and Sharon Roseberry and Sharon Roseberry, of Wichita, Kan.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Wanda Coon, of Seal Beach, Calif., Eunice Heaton, of Albuquerque, N.M., Maxine and her husband, Willard Wahl, of Parkersburg, Constance Sherwood, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Norma and her husband, Royal "Duke" Whiteaker, of Vancouver, Wash.

BELMOND - Klaas John Steenhard, 79, of Belmond, passed away Sunday (Feb. 13,2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Klaas Steenhard will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Melvin Voss officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, with military rites by the Belmond Honor Guard.

Klaas J. Steenhard, the son of Joe and Gesina (Dannen) Steenhard was born April 5, 1920, near Chapin. He grew up in the rural Chapin area and attended country school outside of Chapin. After the death of his parents, Klaas lived for a time with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hemmes. Following school, Klass started farming for various people in the Chapin area. He would later work for a time at General Mills in Belmond. In 1942, Klaas entered the United States Army where he served during World War II. He returned home in 1945.

Klaas was united in marriage with Marjorie Reikens on May 9, 1949 in the Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Dougherty and Meservey area for 22 years, moving into Belmond in 1972. Klaas then began working for Acco Seed and Cargill Seed, he also had a lawn care business in Belmond.

Klaas was a baptized and confirmed member of the Zion Reformed Church in Sheffield. He was a member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond, where he has served as Elder and Deacon. He was also a member of the Belmond VFW. Klaas enjoyed fishing and being outside. He also enjoyed his work and spending time in his workshop.

Klaas is survived by his wife, Marjorie; one son, Delmar and his wife, Kathy, of Manchester; two grandsons, Brian and his fiancee, Allison, of Minnepolis, Minn. and Adam, of Cedar Falls; one sister, Florence Maise, of Hampton; two brothers, George and his wife, Merle, of Rockwell and John and his wife, Evelyn, of Mason City; five sisters-in-law, Molly Steenhard, of Hampton, Phyllis Steenhard, of Meservey, Isabel Steenhard, of Waverly, Eleanor Robertson, of Belmond and Beverly Mosher, of Clarion.

Ruth E. Jarosh was born Feb. 26, 1916 in McGregor, to Garth and Blanche (Moore) Veech. Ruth attended schools in Duluth, Minn. where she grew up. Her family moved to the Mason City area when she was in her teens.

Ruth was united in marriage to Ignatius Jarosh on May 20, 1938 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City.

Being a very giving and caring person, Ruth cared for people in their homes for many years.

Ruth was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church since 1938 and a former member of the Harmony Club in Rockwell.

Ruth was known for her baking and cooking. Hardly an event would go by in Rockwell, without one of her Lady Baltimore Cakes being served. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards, especially Gin Rummy.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sylvia Colman and her husband, Thomas, of Mason City; twin sons, Charles Jarosh and his wife, Dianne, of Mason City and Carol Jarosh, of Mason City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, David Veech and his wife, Rosemary, of Mason City; sisters, Edith Krajnik and husband, Ernest, of Francis Creek, Wis. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1966, and the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minn., in 1970. She moved to Mason City that year and became the director of medical records at the former St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital. She then moved on to the Quality Assurance Department of the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa where she was employed at the time of her death.

Cynthia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City, and Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was a member of the Care Management Institute, the American Medical Records Association and the Quality Assurance Professionals.

In her spare time, Cynthia enjoyed reading romance novels and adding to her Bi-Centennial Quarter Collection. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She loved cooking, attending craft fairs and making gifts, especially her handy, dandy Christmas ornaments .

Those thankful for sharing her life are her sister, Vanya Flusek of Manassas, Va.; two aunts, Mrs. Illa Nelson and Mrs. Harriet Nelson, both of Austin, Minn.; and uncle and aunt, Vernon Bud and Marian Yocom of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and a great aunt, Mrs. Winnie Yocom of Albert Lea, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her special friend, her dog, Muff.
