Most of Lyle's adulthood was spent as a farmer in the Belmond and Kanawha area. He worked for Winnebago Industries in Forest City the last six years. Both activities fueled his curiosity and resulted in thought-provoking conversations when the opportunity presented itself. He marveled at the historical and current conquests of man and nature. The latest expression of this interest was his and Jan's recent visit to the pyramids of southern Mexico.

Lyle's humorous dry wit and willingness to laugh at his own shortcomings was a trademark of his interaction with others. But his care, love, concern and readiness to meet the needs of the immediate and extended family is the primary legacy he leaves.
