** Leland E. Harthan

CLEAR LAKE — Leland E. (Lee) Harthan, 88, died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to the Leland E. Harthan Memorial Fund.

Lee was born Oct. 1, 1910, in rural Ventura, the son of Benjamin and Ethel (Auchampach) Harthan. He farmed in the Thornton and Ventura areas. He later moved to Clear Lake where he worked for the Iowa Liquor Commission until his retirement.

Lee is survived by four children, Jack Harthan of Ventura, Joan Collins and her husband, Duane, of Clear Lake, Janice Harthan-Kerdus and her husband, Robert, of Mason City, and Jerry Harthan and his wife, Carmella, of Clear Lake; and one brother, Harris B. Harthan and his wife, Henrietta, of West Los Angeles, Calif. He was the grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of 16 and great-great-grandfather of two.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn (Miller) Harthan; and one sister, Kathryn Jante.

** Shirley R. Kopps

MASON CITY — Shirley R. Kopps, 69, of 711 S. Washington Ave., died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Curtis DeLong of the First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Presentation of the U.S. flag will be conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association following the service at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Shirley Kopps Memorial Fund.

Shirley was born on Dec. 4, 1928, the son of William R. and Julia (Eling) Kopps, in Mason City. After attending Mason City schools, he joined the United States Army. Shirley served his country stateside and soon returned to be united in marriage to Ruby Peterson on Aug. 20, 1948, in Northwood. The couple had recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Shirley enjoyed fishing, listening to classical music and working in the yard, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid reader of many types of books, magazines, newspapers or whatever he could find. He also loved to play cards with family and friends.

Those thankful for having shared Shirley's life include his wife of 50 years, Ruby; one daughter, Kathy Franklin of Mason City; four sons, Richard and his wife, HwaSook Kopps, of Cedar Falls, Randall and his wife, Kathie Kopps, of Mason City, Russell and his wife, Teresa Kopps, of St. Paul, Minn., and Mark and his wife, Paula Kopps, of Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Betty Angell of Mason City; five grandchildren, Tanya Kopps, Scott Tanner, Jason Franklin, Kristy Kopps and Rusty Kopps; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Kopps was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Richard Eugene Kopps; four sisters, Violet Clausen, Velma Gulff, Eva Nasheim and Bonnie Jermeland; and five brothers, Oswald Kopps, Virgil Kopps, Bill Kopps and twin brothers who died in infancy.

** Glen A. Petznick

ST. ANSGAR — Glen A. Petznick, 55, died Thursday (Oct. 22, 1998) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter.

Visitation was held on Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Glen was born on May 26, 1943, to Alvin and Gertrude (Koschmieder) Petznick in Osage. He was baptized on Aug. 29, 1943, and confirmed on March 33, 1959, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1961.

Glen served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He married Dianne Stromley on July 31, 1964, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

Glen liked the outdoors and fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren.

Glen is survived by his wife, Dianne, of St. Ansgar; two sons, Randy Petznick, of St. Ansgar and Brian Petznick of Fountain, Minn.; and two grandchildren, Samantha and James Petznick of St. Ansgar.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

LAKE MILLS — Orten L. Sorenson, 81, died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

NORA SPRINGS — Robert G. Beal, 71, died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

** Harvey Johnson

FOREST CITY — Harvey Johnson, 60, died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at his home in rural Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.

Harvey D. Johnson was born on a farm near Forest City on March 9, 1938, the son of Carl A. and Leila (Royal) Johnson. He attended rural school and graduated from Forest City High School in 1955. In 1960, he studied for a year at Omaha Baptist Bible College. He was married to Mary Lou Smidt at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church on June 16, 1961. Harvey continued his education at Iowa State University where he graduated in ag education in 1964. He took a teaching position at Palmer Consolidated School District in the fall of 1964. From 1965 to 1968, he worked as a sale representative for the Ciba-Geigy Chemical Corporation.

Harvey and Mary Lou began farming the family farm in the spring of 1968. Harvey traveled all over the world as part of various agriculture and educational exchange programs, visiting countries in South America, Europe and the Far East. He served on the Iowa Soybean Promotion Board for nine years, the state 4-H Board for six years and the Federal Land Bank Board for 12 years.

He was an active member of the Forest City Rotary Club. As a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, he served as deacon, choir director, Sunday school superintendent and as a member of musical small groups and community choir groups.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Johnson of Forest City; a son, Jason Johnson of Ames; two daughters and their spouses, Kristie and Greg Wirtjes of Forest City and Dawn and Jim Bunnell of Kansas City, Mo. He also is survived by two grandchildren, Mitchell and Trevor Bunnell; two brothers and their spouses, Ralph and Sheryl Johnson of Forest City and Lyle and Mary Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; a sister and her husband, Margaret and David Abbey of Royersford, Pa.; his father-in-law, Louie Smidt Jr. of Britt; and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Darlene G. Reysack

THORNTON — Darlene G. Reysack, 70, of Thornton, died Sunday (Oct. 25, 1998) at the Sunrise Healthcare Center, Mason City.

She was cremated and inurnment will be at the Pleasantview Cemetery, Thornton.

Memorials may be given to the Darlene G. Reysack Memorial Fund, care of Elizabeth Reysack, P.O. Box 181, Thornton, Iowa 50479.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 104 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene was born June 10, 1928 in Thornton. She was raised by her mother, Lucille E. (Harken) Prilipp and maternal grandfather, George M. Harken.

She graduated from Thornton High School in 1945 with honors. Darlene lived there until her marriage to Theodore R. "Ted" Reysack on Dec. 10, 1954.

She worked in the Mason City-Thornton area as a telephone operator for a number of years until she lost her voice for over three years.

Ted worked as a farm hand in the surrounding area for a time until they moved to Hampton in the late 1950s and lived there over 30 years. She and Beth moved to rural Swaledale. In 1993, Darlene and Beth’s family moved to Thornton. Darlene moved to the nursing home on Nov. 20, 1997.

Darlene was baptized, confirmed and married in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa. Darlene moved to the nursing home Nov. 20, 1997.

Darlene was baptized, confirmed and married in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Thornton, Iowa. In her later years, she was unable to attend churches due to her ill health. While she was able, she attended various Non Denominational Pentecostal affiliated churches.

Darlene enjoyed her children and extended family, especially her grandson, Tony. They were the ones who gave her, her greatest joy in life as well as her abiding faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She liked to read and knit for as long as she was able, do word puzzle books, listen to the radio and watch TV and talk with her family in person on the phone.

Darlene is survived by her son, Randy D. Reysack and his wife, Sandra, of Thornton, Iowa; one daughter, Elizabeth J. "Beth" Reysack and her husband, Gary Overbeck, of Thornton; one grandson, Tony Reysack, of Clear Lake, Iowa; stepgrandchildren, Lucinda McDonald and Benjamin McDonald, of Thornton, Iowa; a special friend (like a daughter) Barb Benge; and other special relatives.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; grandfather, George M. Harkin; and an infant son, Timothy Vernon Reysack.

** Orten Lester Sorenson

LAKE MILLS — Orten Lester Sorenson, 81, of Lake Mills, died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra and the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour before services at the church.

Orten Lester Sorenson was born April 20, 1917, near Joice.

Survivors include one son, Thayne Sorenson, of Ames; one daughter, Dawn Spencer, of Madrid; three grandchildren; two brothers, Szymour, of Northwood and Richard, of Portland, Conn.; and one sister, Murial Solomonson, of Lake Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and one infant sister.

** Mary L. Shourek

MASON CITY — Mary L. Shourek, 75, of 230 12th St. S.E., died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) at the Veterans Hospital, Knoxville.

According to her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine, Des Moines, for anatomical purposes.

Mary L. Shourek was born April 11, 1923, in Fort Dodge.

She is survived by distant family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** Charles Norman Brown

OSAGE — Charles Norman Brown, 71, of Osage, died Sunday (Oct. 25, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

His body was cremated. There will be a private family graveside memorial service at the St. Ansgar City Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris F. Gugel officiating.

Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St. Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Heimer, of Stacyville and Bonnie Mullenbach, of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

** Andrew Stephen Dennis

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Andrew Stephen Dennis, 21, of Independence, passed away as a result of a car accident.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Speaks Suburan Chapel.

Andrew was born June 9, 1977, in Des Moines and had lived in Independence for the past 11 years. He was a warehouse supervisor for Corporate Express.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are his parents, Kathy and Don Mackey, of Independence, and Steve and Cindy Dennis, of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Simon Dennis, of Corydon, Iowa; a sister, Emily Dennis, of Independence; his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Anne Dennis, of Des Moines, his maternal grandparents, Norman and Mary Jo Riekens, of Corydon; and his maternal great-grandmother, Lois Riekens, of Mason City.

Speaks Surburban Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

CLARION — Ruth Olson, 74, of Clarion, died Sunday (Oct. 25, 1998) at the Community Memorial Hospital, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Clarion Church of Christ, with Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion.

Ruth Olson was born Jan. 31, 1924, on the family farm near Lake Cornelia.

Survivors include one son, Robert Olson, of Clarion; one daughter, Jane Townsend, of Clarion; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Don Tice, of Clarion, Howard Tice, of Mesa, Ariz., and Charlie Tice, of Grand Marie, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother.

** John Beran

RICEVILLE — John Beran, 96, of Riceville, died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, Saratoga, with the Rev. Tim Sir officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Saratoga Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville.

John Beran was born in Swanton, Neb., on Dec. 26, 1901.

Survivors include two sons, George Beran, of Ames, and John Beran Jr., of Midsayap, Cotabato, Philippines; one daughter, Joanne Tonjes, of East Peoria, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mollie Buresh, of Wahoo, Neb.

CARTER LAKE — Edward F. Ward, 76, died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) in Spirit Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Sciford of the First Baptist Church, Omaha, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Council Bluffs.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Womochil of Omaha, and Debbie Mardi of Carter Lake; four sons, Edward Jr. of Indianapolis, Jim Ward of Omaha, Gerald (Bucky) Ward of Newport News, Va., and Bobby of Carter Lake; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Bill of Charles City; and two sisters, Iva Mae Smith and Donna White.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Worwa Ward.

EAGLE GROVE — Nellie P. Benton, 95, died Sunday (Oct. 25, 1998) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. William E. Ballard officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home.

Nellie Pauline Paulson was born on April 12, 1903, in Sheffield, Ill.

Survivors include a son, Evan Benton of Eagle Grove; two daughters, H. Louise Russell of Eagle Grove, and Linda Lou Oberhelman of Seligman, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and over 100 great, great-great, and great-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two children, one granddaughter, and two brothers.

** Robert G. Beal

NORA SPRINGS — Robert G. Beal, 71, of Ponderosa Ct., No. 28, died Saturday (Oct. 24, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the Robert G. Beal Memorial Fund.

Robert G. Beal was born July 20, 1927, to Archie and Laura (Larson) Beal in Garner. He attended school in Garner. Robert farmed with his father near Garner for many years. He then moved to Bondurant where he worked as the custodial supervisor and a bus driver for the school system. He retired in 1992. He then worked for Des Moines Area Community College for several years, before moving to Rudd in 1996. Robert married Cleatus Martin in Bondurant on June 17, 1977. The couple moved to Nora Springs in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Cleatus, of Nora Springs; daughter, Dianna Dempsey of Bettendorf, son, Michael Beal of Newport, Minn., daughter, Roberta Williams of Shawnee, Kan., son, Tom Beal of Davenport, step-daughter, Bernice Bellcourt of Waterloo; mother, Laura Beal of Mason City; sister, Maxine Ulrich of College Grove, Minn.; close cousin, Mildred Allen of Mason City; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1958; son, Gary, in 1976; and step-son, Melvin, in 1998.

MASON CITY — Valita Lorraine Cookman, 64, of 16054 245th St., died Monday (Oct. 26, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

FOREST CITY — Lucile Field, 93, died Friday (Oct. 23, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.

Lucile Field was born Aug. 7, 1905, in Forest City.

Survivors include three sons, John Field of Asheville, N.C., Roger Field of Ankeny, and James Field of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Elvina of Las Vegas, and Arlis of Sioux Falls, S.D.; one brother, Dean Twedt of Austin, Minn.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one sister.

LELAND — DeLores Ann Durby, 70, died Monday (Oct. 26, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Phoenix.

** Mary Genevieve Cullen

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Mary Genevieve Cullen, 80, a resident of the Hillview Health Care Center, died Monday (Oct. 26, 1998).

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating. The Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 401 Main St., Onalaska, Wis., is assisting with arrangements.

Mary Genevieve Cullen was born June 20, 1918, at Sioux Falls, S.D., to Bernice Matie Hubbard Morrison and Walton Mitchell Morrison. She graduated from Osage High School, Osage. She married Frank Cullen on Dec. 31, 1940, at Osage Lutheran Church. They lived in Washington State until returning to Wisconsin in 1952. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 238 Auxiliary at Greenwood, Wis., and VFW Auxiliary Post 7924 at Kansasville, Wis. She had a great love of music and playing the organ. She loved her calligraphy and taught many the art.

Survivors include two sons, Vincent (Beverly) Cullen of Onalaska, and Frank in Texas; eight grandchildren, Bryan (Patricia) Cullen, Michael (Jody) Cullen, Patricia (Bill) Siegler, Mark Cullen, Jeffrey (Missi) Cullen, Lisa Cullen (and fiance Dr. Ted Ware), Dawn (Mark) Sanborn, and Joseph Cullen; by 13 loving great-grandchildren whom she lived most for; brothers, Robert (Evelyn) Morrison, and John Morrison; sisters-in-law, Maxine Morrison, and Ann Morrison; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents; brothers, Duncan, Mitchell and Walt; and a grandson, Erick John.

** Esther A. Shultz

DOUGHERTY — Funeral services for Esther A. Shultz, 89, of Marble Rock, formerly of rural Dougherty, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Esther Augusta Uker was born Jan. 12, 1909, on the Uker Homestead four miles east of Dougherty, a daughter of George Leo and Wilhelmina Albertina (Stabenow) Uker, and died Tuesday (Oct. 27, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

She was baptized Feb. 28, 1909, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene and received her education in the rural Scott Township Schools. She attended the Westside School in Greene and later the High School there. She was confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene on March 25, 1923.

On July 2, 1926, she was united in marriage to Galen Glen Shultz at the Lutheran Parsonage in Independence, Iowa. They made their home on the Uker homestead for over 50 years. Mr. Shultz died on Nov. 19, 1980. She later moved to the Friendship Acres apartments in Marble Rock were she lived for seven years, before entering the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Esther will be remembered for her great love for her family and friends. Her interests included gardening, all aspects of farming, playing cards and going out to eat.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Lois Adams, of Marble Rock; her two sons, Galen Jr. "Bud" and his wife, LaVonne Shultz, of Greene, and Donald Shultz, of Mason City; son-in-law, Joe Neal, of Greene; 11 grandchildren, Carolyn Goodsell, Kathy Herman, Bonita Neal, Thomas Neal, Margaret Nash, Debra Warren, Amber Bushbaum, Reid Adams, Darla Parker, Julia Towsley, and David Shultz; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Delhia Lynch, of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Donna Neal on April 19, 1998; one grandson, Douglas Shultz; two great-grandsons, Benjamin Bushbaum, Brandon Glen Neal; parents; and one sister, Ida Darby.

She loved caring for her family. She enjoyed camping, taking trips to Texas, raising flowers and visiting with family and friends.

Corman Hoff was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Makoti, N.D., to William and Clara (Berkland) Hoff. Corman attended and graduated from Makoti High School in 1942.

He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1945. Corman then graduated from the University of North Dakota. He worked for the I.R.S. in Sheldon.

Corman married Mary Gansmer on April 11, 1953, in Sheldon.

In September of 1959, they moved to Mason City where Corman worked as an agent with the IRS and retired in 1982.

Corman enjoyed his children and family. He was a member of the V.F.W.

David Leslie Hunter, the son of Leslie Charles and Marian Rothwell Hunter, was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Wadena, Minn.

He attended Fertile School and graduated in 1956. He attended Wartburg College and received his BA. Later he earned his Master's Degree at North Carolina A. and T. in Greensboro, N.C.

He accepted Christ as his Savior after discovering how short life is, when he found his 14-year-old brother who had been accidentally electrocuted in August of 1967.

David was united in marriage to Saundra Overturf on June 1, 1968, in Nora Springs. He began his teaching career in Clarksville, Iowa in 1961. After three years there, he taught at Lake Mills for a year. In 1965 he started teaching in Nora Springs, where he taught Chemistry and Physics for 32 years, retiring in 1997.

He especially enjoyed basketball and coached the varsity team in Nora Springs for four years. David loved basketball and kids. David loved Camp Meeting and served for 28 years as vice-president of the Iowa Holiness Association Camp.

He was a member and served on the board at the Rudd Wesleyan Church. His family enjoyed spending time together at camp meetings, church services, fishing in Canada and attending sporting events.

Those thankful for having his Christian Leadership within the family include his wife, Sandy; three sons, Brady and his wife, Leah, of Riceville; Nathan, of Des Moines; and Travis, of Dougherty; one daughter, Cassie, of Dougherty; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and John Coons, of Kansas City; and Kathy and David Cortner, of Des Moines; and his father, Leslie, of Marshalltown.

She was a representative for Cerro Gordo County at the 4-H Conference in Chicago, Ill.

Wilmie married Alfred G. Prestholt on Aug. 17, 1929 in Whittemore, Iowa. They farmed in the Hanlontown area.

Wilmie was very active in the church. She lived her life being around her family, enjoying flowers, doing scrapbooks and sewing.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile and the Friendly Neighbor Club.

Lucille was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. She attended country schools and then graduated from St. Ansgar High School.

She worked on a farm until her marriage. She then worked at Marshall and Swift for two years and retired from the laundry department at Mercy Hospital after 30 years there.

She enjoyed collecting owls and helping others. She did some embroidery and latch hook crafts. She loved to play bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, in May of 1976; and two grandchildren, Katie Ellefson and Robert Ellefson Jr.

** Emmett Schinnow

NORTHWOOD — Emmett Schinnow, 82, of Northwood, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 1998) at his home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 S., Northwood, with the Rev. David Wall officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Emmett was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Mason City to Emil and Bertha (Raywinkle) Schinnow.

He operated the Coffee Cup Cafe in Mason City and the Midway Cafe in Northwood for many years.

He married Ann Kramer on Feb. 22, 1938.

He married Velma Hanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Sept. 17, 1960.

A recovered alcoholic, Emmett worked for 16 years with the Fountain Lake Treatment Centers in Forest City and Albert Lea and with Alcoholics Anonymous to help others overcome their addictions.

He is survived by his wife, Velma, of Northwood; one son, Richard Schinnow, of Rock Falls; two daughters, Marilyn Dauberg and her husband, Gary, of Morgan Hill, Calif.; and Connie Deets and her husband, Horace, of Annandale, Va.; a stepdaughter, Joanne Wignes and her husband, Jim, of Rochester, Minn.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Schinnow, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and a brother, Robert.

** Sara Ann Musgjerd

WILMETTE, Ill. — Sara Ann Musgjerd nee McMichael, 73, of Wilmette, died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) following a short illness.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Church, 784 Sheridan Rd., Winnetka, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Kellogg Cancer Care Center, care of Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., Evanston, Ill. 60201.

Sara was born on Oct. 16, 1925, in Mason City, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. M.D. McMichael. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1943 and then attended De Pauw University and the University of Iowa from which she graduated in 1947.

Sara married Robert D. Musgjerd in 1947 and they resided in Springfield, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Ind. before moving to Wilmette, Ill. in 1962.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Sara will always be remembered by her family and friends as a humble, caring and spiritually beautiful person.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; three children, Robert, of Fridley, Minn., John, of Wilmette, Ill., and Ann Mitchell, of Kenilworth, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Malcolm McMichael, of Northbrook, Ill.

OSAGE — Velma Northup, 84, of Osage, died Friday (Oct. 30, 1998) at the Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Velma Northup was born Sept. 18, 1914, in Christian County, Ill.

Survivors include one son, Stephen Northup, of Osage; and three grandchildren.

GREENE — Funeral services for the Rev. Nancy Louise Vieker, 57, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vilmar, rural Greene, with Bishop Steven L. Ulstad officiating. Following services, her body will be cremated with committal being held at a later date in California.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Nancy Louise Dent was born Aug. 9, 1941 in Oxnard, Calif.; and died Tuesday (Oct. 27, 1998) at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident near Oelwein.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, of Greene; three children, Jon, of St. Louis, Mo.; Joel, of Livingston, Calif.; and Karol Vieker, of Stockholm, Sweden; five grandchildren; her parents, Floyd and Louise Dent, of Livingston, Calif.; and two brothers, Gary Dent, of Colorado; and Mark Dent, of Modesto, Calif.

Joseph Ray Wagner was born June 2, 1909, in Faulkner.
