** Kathleen Marie Bruce

LAKE MILLS — Kathleen Marie Bruce, 80, of Lake Mills, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Lake Mills Care Center, Lake Mills.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 209 N. Washington, Lake Mills.

** Arina Meyer

ALGONA — Arina Meyer, 91, of Algona, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona, with Pastor Douglas Hoag officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

Arina Meyer was born April 24, 1907 at Lotts Creek.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald Meyer, of West Bend, Amos Meyer and Dean Meyer, both of Algona; and one daughter, Doris Meyer, of San Antonio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, one son, one sister, one brother, and two grandchildren.

** Loyola (Ormsby) Scholl

ROCKWELL — Loyola (Ormsby) Scholl, 87, has left us to be with her husband, Francis. She died Monday evening (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Michael Schueller and the Rev. Stephen Meyer, concelebrating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

** Veryl Schmidt

BURT — Veryl Schmidt, 80, of Burt, died Sunday (Oct. 18, 1998) at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Burt, with the Rev. Bryce Bereuter officiating. Burial will be in Burt Township Cemetery, Burt.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, Burt.

Veryl Melvin Schmidt, the son of John William Carl Schmidt and Nola Mae (Lashbrook) Schmidt was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Algona, where he was raised and educated.

He was married to Thelma Sankey on Sept. 8, 1936, in Canton, S.D.

During World War II, he was employed in an ammunition plant in Illinois and McDonald Douglas Aircraft Plant in California. He was self employed in Madras, Ore. as a carpenter.

From 1954 to 1971, they made their home in Titonka, where they owned and operated Titonka Plumbing and Heating. They then lived in Omaha for a year before moving to Burt where he was employed as a foreman at Broughm Industries in Algona.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Burt.

He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing. In later years, he enjoyed traveling to California and Virginia to visit family.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Schmidt and his wife, Celine, of Suffolk, Va.; and a daughter, Sharon Michaelsen and her husband, Gary, of Mason City; a sister, Lila Thompson, of Barstow, Calif.; six grandchildren, Sherry and Todd Hoffman, Terry Michaelsen, Brent Michaelsen, Aaron and Aileen Schmidt, Mark Schmidt and Amy Schmidt; six great-grandchildren, Lynsey and Kayley Hoffman, Brittney and Blake Michaelsen, Katie Michaelsen and Jordan Schmidt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma on April 6, 1996 in Mason City; his parents; brothers, Jessie and Leonard Schmidt; sisters, Blanche Johnson and Lela Mae and Sylvia Schmidt (both in infancy); and a granddaughter, Crisanda Michaelsen.

** Robert Gerald Peterson

LONGMONT, Colo.— Robert Gerald Peterson, 56, of Longmont, died Tuesday (Oct. 13, 1998) at Boulder Community Hospital.

Mr. Peterson was employed as an automobile salesman, a job he truly enjoyed.

He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He moved to Longmont on Dec. 24, 1997, from Northglenn.

He belonged to First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Longmont.

He loved his family, fly fishing and adventures in his motor home. He also loved the Denver Broncos.

He will be remembered for his love of both chili and popsicles.

Born June 21, 1942, in Mason City, the son of Adler Peterson and Florence Crook Peterson. He married Jackie Lee Williams on April 27, 1990, in Thornton.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie, of Longmont, Colo.; his mother, Florence Peterson, of Mason City; one son, Mike Rabb, of Denver; four daughters, Darcy Madden, of Northwood; Kim Travers of Chicago; Darcy Arvada; and Carrie Quiggle and her husband, Chris, of Ham Lake, Minn.; one brother, Jim Peterson and his wife, Cindy, of Rudd, Iowa; three sisters, Sharon Norris, of Chicago; Marcia Christensen and her husband, Dennis, of Mason City, Iowa; and Nancy Easley and her husband, Ray, of Marion, Iowa; two grandchildren, Eric Quiggle and Derek Madden; his parents-in-law, Jack and Lee Williams, of Yuma, Ariz.; and his brother-in-law, Curt Williams and his wife, Sharon, of Littleton, Colo.

Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Gary Peterson.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Third Avenue and Terry Street, in Longmont, Colo., with the Rev. Bruce Welander and the Rev. Beth Graham, officiating. Cremation has been held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont.

** Armond D. Losh

MASON CITY — Armond D. Losh, 81, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. David Shogren, of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Wesley United Methodist Church, in Armond’s name.

Armond was born Nov. 7, 1916, the son of Harry and Lena (McGrath) Losh in Clarion. He attended the Clarion school system and was later drafted into the United States Army.

Armond entered the service on March 25, 1944, at Camp Dodge. He was then sent to Europe to fight for his country. On Nov. 5, 1945, he was discharged after receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

In 1933, Armond hitchhiked to California to visit Marion, a boyhood friend. He was gone for three months but never found his friend. He road the rails home and said it was the best time of his life.

On March 15, 1940, Armond was united in marriage to Vesta Neilsen in Hampton. The Neilson’s owned the bakery in Clarion and this is where Armond got into the bakery business. He later purchased the Purity Bakery in Mason City and the Belmond Bakery.

Armond operated the Belmond Bakery until his retirement in 1984 at which time he and his wife moved back to Mason City. On Nov. 27, 1987, Vesta died at the age of 73.

Armond had been attending Senior Citizens and Golden Agers where he met Mildred Roth who, on Feb. 7, 1990, became Armond’s second wife. The couple was married at Wesley United Methodist Church.

Armond enjoyed watching sports including golf and football. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1328, Senior Citizens, Golden Agers, and Wesley United Methodist Church.

Those thankful for having shared Armond’s life include his wife, Mildred; two sons, Tracy and his wife, Betty Losh, of Concordia, Kan.; Rodney and his wife, Judy Losh, of Altoona; two stepsons, Jack and his wife, Anita Roth, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Larry and his wife, Cathy Roth, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one sister, Dorothy and her husband, Gene Abels, of Eagle Grove; six grandchildren, Neil, Todd, Troy, Michael, Brian, and Garrett Losh; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Holly, Heather, Foster, and Maura Losh.

Mr. Losh was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Vesta; two sisters, Jean and Ruth; two brothers, Harry "Bob," and Donald.

** David Allen Sharp

MASON CITY — David Allen Sharp, 44, of 532 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jack Gannett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

David Allen Sharp was born Aug. 22, 1954, in Mason City, son of David and Juanita (Simmons) Sharp. Dave graduated from Mason City High School in 1973.

Throughout the years, he worked at Fast Food Merchandisers, Toro, Curtis 1000 and recently for Dimensional Graphics and La Hacienda.

Dave had a great love for sports, coaching little league baseball and youth basketball. He was an avid basketball and softball player. He enjoyed cooking and raising his pets.

He is survived by Susan Madsen, of Mason City; five sisters, Nancy Knapp, of Mason City; JoAnn Simon, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Kathryn Pinneke and her husband, Albert, of Fort Worth, Texas; Sally Matthes, of Fort Worth, Texas; and Shirley Walswick and her husband, David, of Mason City; one brother, William Sharp, of Canyon Country, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, David Bradley Walswick.

** Mary C. Lutcavish

MASON CITY — Mary C. Lutcavish, 65, of 839 Sixth St. S.W., Mason City, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Following services, her body will be cremated. Private family inurnment will take place at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a Women of the Moose service beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Mary C. Lutcavish was born Oct. 9, 1933 in Rockwell, daughter of Gordon and Loretta (Kielty) Moorehead. Mary grew up in the Cartersville area and then graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1952.

She enjoyed playing cards and playing bingo, bowling, and camping. She loved to spend time with her family.

She was an active member of the Moose Lodge and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her mother, Loretta Moorehead, of Mason City; three children, Julie Heddens and her husband, Tom, of Charles City; Jeff Lutcavish and his wife, Kendra, of Mason City; and Jill Lutcavish, of Mason City; four grandchildren, Nikole Benson, of Mason City; Chad Lutcavish, of Mason City; Dustin Heddens, of Charles City; and Brent Heddens, of Charles City; three brothers, Richard Moorhead, of Nora Springs; Mike Moorehead, of Mason City; and Donnie Moorehead, of Merced, Calif.; four sisters, Doris Wyborny, of Rudd; Marge McKean, of Des Moines; Connie Lakowski, of Torrance, Calif.; and Linda Nelson, of Torrance Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; and one brother, Robert Moorehead.

** Daniel Jon ‘Dan’ Rowe

MASON CITY — Funeral services for Daniel Jon "Dan" Rowe, 69, of 1116 Eighth St. S.W., will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating.

He passed away surrounded by his loving family at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Dan was born July 29, 1929 in the Burchinal area to Floyd Guy and Leila Fern (Best) Rowe. He graduated from the Swaledale High School, where he pitched on the softball team.

He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Mix on July 25, 1953 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. On their 25th anniversary, they retraced their honeymoon memories from Missouri back to the Little Brown Church.

Dan farmed his whole life until being hired at the soybean plant in 1955. He worked there until 1984, retiring as plant production manager.

Dan was an avid hunter. He hunted with his brother, Dale and good friend, Bob Lugar for fox and pheasant. He loved the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs and Bulls.

He loved to garden and gamble with his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren and companion "Little Molly." He started every day with a crossword puzzle and then walked six miles in any kind of weather.

Dan and Norma are members of the VFW, Post No. 733, Mason City. Dan served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951-1953.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Norma Jean Rowe, of Mason City; his children and grandchildren; daughter, Jenny Schlutz and her husband, Steve, of Mason City; parents of Kari and her husband, Eric Follmuth, Bob and Jessie Jean; son, Jeff Rowe and his wife, Cindy, of Mason City; parents of Jessica and her husband, Jason Goetsch and their daughter, Morgan; Ken Lusk and his wife, Karen and their daughter, Starr; and Brandon Rowe; son, Mark Rowe, of Emmetsburg, father of Paul Lane; sister, Maxine Chaney, of Mason City; brother, Dale Rowe and his wife, Jean, of Rockwell; and sister, Bonnie Arnold and her husband, Bob, of Albert Lea, Minn.; also missing Dan will be good neighbors, good friends and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Leila Rowe; and one brother, Don Rowe.

** Raymond Fluhrer

CHARLES CITY — Raymond "Ray" Fluhrer, 96, a former resident of 700 Ninth St., died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank, pastor of West St. Charles United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday.

Raymond Albert Fluhrer was born Aug. 15, 1902, in St. Charles Township, Floyd County.

Survivors include two sons, Gary, of Seattle, Wash. and Alan of West Covina, Calif.; and a sister, Arlene Fluhrer, of Charles City; four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sisters.

Memorial may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City Center.

** Violet Hall

FERTILE — Violet Hall, 95, of Fertile, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, in Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be in Grant Center Cemetery, in rural Clear Lake.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Mae Hall was born to Darwin & Luella (Orcutt) Welch on April 10, 1903 on the family farm in Grant Township, Cerro Gordo County.

She graduated from the eighth grade at Grant Township School and from Fertile Consolidated High School in 1922. She attended a summer term at the teacher’s college in Cedar Falls, which then qualified her to teach in country school.

She married George W. Hall on Nov. 22, 1922, at the Church of Christ in Fertile. Mr. and Mrs. Hall made their home on a farm in Grant Township.

In 1930, they moved into Fertile, where Violet resided until entering Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in 1993.

Mrs. Hall was baptized at the Church of Christ when she was 16 years old and she and George attended church and were active there as long as it was physically possible.

Viola taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for 25 years. She also taught Vacation Bible School for many years and served in many other positions of teaching in the church. She was a charter member of the Christian Workers Ladies group at the church.

Violet is survived by a nephew, Esmer Hill and his wife, Wilma, of Virden, Manitoba; three nieces, Dr. Darline Smith, of New York City; Monie Kumm and her husband, Jim, of Salem, Ore.; Beverly Calgaard and her husband, Roy, of Joice; sister-in-law, Dorothy Atherton, of Elysian, Minn.; brother-in-law, Orval Hall, of Clear Lake; several great-nieces and great-nephews and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Lester Welch; and four sisters, Leona Hill; Della Haugen; Myna Smith; and Josephine Humphrey.

** Louise B. LaFrentz

RUDD — Mrs. Louise B. LaFrentz, 101, of Rudd, died Monday (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Rudd, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd.

Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Louise LaFrentz Memorial Fund.

Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Louise was born near Hamburg, Germany, on Aug. 3, 1897, the daughter of Fred and Sophia Esbaum. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Germany. She came to the United States at the age of 14 to Wheatland.

Louise married Ernest LaFrentz in 1916 in Wheatland and they moved to Canada and farmed there for four years. They moved back to the United States in 1920 and farmed east of Rudd. Ernest died in 1965. She continued to live on the farm until 1979, when she moved into Rudd.

Louise was very well disciplined, a hard worker, well known for her strong will, gardening, cooking and baking apple pies and chocolate cakes.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rudd.

Louise is survived by three grandchildren, Ron LaFrentz and his wife, Ellen, of Monona; Pat Points and her husband, Jim, of Atlanta; and Jim Robichaud, of Augusta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Ann Kielkopf and her husband, Todd, of Columbia, Mo.; Raef LaFrentz, of Denver, Colo.; Scott and Kelly Points, of Atlanta; one great-great-granddaughter, Katie Anne Kielkopf, of Columbia, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1965; one son, Andy LaFrentz; and one daughter, Irene Robichaud.

** Norm Cole

HAMPTON — Norm Cole, 69, of Hampton, died Sunday (Oct. 18, 1998) at home. His body was cremated.

Norm Cole was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Little Rock, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Char, of Hampton; a daughter, Deb McKeown, of Denison; one son, Mark, of Schertz, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.

** Esther G. Christ

LAKOTA — Esther G. Christ, 88, of Lakota, died Sunday (Oct. 18, 1998) in Primrose Place in Springfield, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakota, with the Rev. Marino Melsted officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Lakota.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N.W., Buffalo Center, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Esther was born Sept. 171, 1910 on a farm south of Elmore, Minn.

She is survived by three sons, Duane, of Freehold, N.J.; Don, of Brighton, Mo.; Daryl, of South Bend, Ind.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers.

** Weldon Jordahl

FOREST CITY — Weldon "Wally" Jordahl, 49, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at the North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Agape Christian Family Church, in Clear Lake, with the Rev. David Toyne officiating. Burial will be in Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery, in rural Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Weldon "Wally" Jordahl was born Dec. 13, 1948, in Forest City.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jordahl, of Forest City; two daughters, Shelly Pals, of Alexander, and Kristi Hovenga, of Forest City; two sons, Stacy Jordahl, of Atlanta; and Pfc. Michael Waugh, of San Diego; two sisters, Jolaine Tweeten, of Woolstock, and Noreen Davis, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Owen Jordahl, of Thacher, Ariz., and Burnell Jordahl, of Enid, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

CLEAR LAKE — Graveside services for Sherri Mae Cosgriff, 37, of 21270 Hickory Ave., Clear Lake, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.

Sherri Cosgriff died April 13, 1998 at North Iowa Mercy Health East, Mason City.

MANLY — Diane K. Dahl, 39, of Manly, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) from complication of diabetes at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bride Colonial Chapel and continue Saturday for one hour prior to services.

OSAGE — Carl Henry Christiansen, 93, of Osage and formerly of rural Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.

MASON CITY — Leone Alice Krieger, 89, of 501 S. Kentuckey Ave., died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at Heritage Care Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves, pastor of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, where other arrangements are incomplete.

** Junita Grubb

IOWA FALLS — Junita Grubb, 91, of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

ROCKWELL — Loyola (Ormsby) Scholl, 87, has left us to be with her husband, Francis. She died Monday evening (Oct. 19, 1998) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

A funeral Mass will be held at noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Michael Schueller and the Rev. Stephen Meyer concelebrating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Loyola was born Dec. 2, 1910, in Dougherty, the daughter of Robert and Mary "Mayme" (Dougherty) Ormsby. She was educated at St. Patrick’s School in Dougherty and Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

On June 18, 1932, she married Francis Scholl in Rockwell, where together they operated a dairy farm on the present site of the golf course. After their four children left home, they moved to Mason City and lived there for 30 years at 416 Fifth St. S.E. Loyola was later a resident of the Rockwell Nursing home since February of 1995.

Loyola was employed at Mercy Hospital for several years. Later she volunteered her time at Mercy Hospital and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Senior Citizens Center, both of Mason City. Her interests were family activities, gardening, knitting and crocheting. Her home was always filled with African violets for many years.

Loyola was a hard-working woman who made great sacrifices for her family. She supported her husband lovingly as they operated their dairy farm in Rockwell. Though her mind left her early, her strong body remained with us for several years and this energy remains alive today by being passed on to her children and grandchildren. Up to the time of her death, she took no medications and remained a strong-willed person. We thank God for her time with us and the many good choices that she made. We love you, Mom.

Those of her family left to cherish her memory are one sister, Lucille McKigney, of Dougherty; four children, Marilyn Schmit and her husband, Joe, Minnetonka, Minn.; Patricia Cahill and her husband, Ed, Waterloo; Robert Scholl and his wife, Jan, Vernon, Fla.; and Cathy Degen and her husband, Larry, of Rockwell; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Dorothy; and one great-grandchild.

** Daniel Jon ‘Dan’ Rowe

MASON CITY — Funeral services for Daniel Jon "Dan" Rowe, 69, of 1116 Eighth St. S.W., will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating.

He passed away surrounded by his loving family at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Dan was born July 29, 1929, in the Burchinal area to Floyd Guy and Leila Fern (Best) Rowe. He graduated from the Swaledale High School, where he pitched on the softball team.

He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Mix on July 25, 1953, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. On their 25th anniversary, they retraced their honeymoon memories from Missouri back to the Little Brown Church.

Dan farmed his whole life until being hired at the soybean plant in 1955. He worked there until 1984, retiring as plant production manager.

Dan was an avid hunter. He hunted with his brother, Dale and good friend, Bob Lugar for fox and pheasant. He loved the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs and Bulls.

He loved to garden and gamble with his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren and companion "Little Molly." He started every day with a crossword puzzle and then walked six miles in any kind of weather.

Dan and Norma are members of the VFW, Post No. 733, Mason City. Dan served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Ward from 1951-1953.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Norma Jean Rowe, of Mason City; his children and grandchildren; daughter, Jenny Schlutz and her husband, Steve, of Mason City; parents of Kari and her husband, Eric Follmuth, Bob and Jessie Jean; son, Jeff Rowe and his wife, Cindy, of Emmetsburg; parents of Jessica and her husband, Jason Goetsch and their daughter, Morgan; Ken Lusk and his wife, Karen and their daughter, Starr; and Brandon Rowe; son, Mark Rowe, of Mason City, father of Paul Lane; sister, Maxine Chaney, of Mason City; brother, Dale Rowe and his wife, Jean, of Rockwell; and sister, Bonnie Arnold and her husband, Bob, of Albert Lea, Minn.; also missing Dan will be good neighbors, good friends and many nieces and nephews.

NORTHWOOD — Robert "Bob" Fredric Abrams, 59, of Northwood died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at his home in Ackley.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a public Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m. at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood.

Robert "Bob" Fredric Abrams was born on Oct. 1, 1939, in Mason City, the son of Donald and Marie (Berberich) Abrams. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

He attended and received his education in the Deer Creek No. 4 rural school system, graduating from Northwood High School in 1957. He also attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in engineering.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Winkels on Nov. 4, 1961, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church, in Austin, Minn. In 1964, he moved to Dubuque and worked for Cullen & Schultz Engineering Company until 1975, when he moved back to Northwood where he worked with his brother, Kenneth Abrams at Abrams Drainage until 1979, and he also owned Abrams Surveying Service in Northwood until 1982. Until the time of his death, he worked for Northern Border Pipeline as a right of way agent and inspector.

He enjoyed bowling, boating and reading.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly and the Knights of Columbus in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory is one son, Michael Abrams, of Northwood; one daughter, Janet Dixon and her husband, Rod, of Chillicothe, Mo.; his father and mother, Donald and Marie Abrams, of Northwood; two grandchildren, Connor and Jordan Dixon, of Chillicothe, Mo.;’ one brother, Kenneth Abrams, of Northwood; two sisters, Judy Davis and her husband, Steve, of Apple Valley, Minn.; and Jane Schroeder and her husband, Jim, of Dubuque; several nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.

** Marvin G. Hansmeier

FERTILE — Marvin G. Hansmeier, 68, of 302 W. Main St., Fertile, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ, in Fertile, with the Rev. Danny Ganz officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake.

The family suggests memorials may be given to the Marvin G. Hansmeier Memorial Fund.

Marvin was born Nov. 13, 1929 on a farm near Foley, Minn., the son of John and Anna (Meier) Hansmeier.

He married Joan Gray on Oct. 8, 1949, in Foley. The couple moved to Fertile in the spring of 1954. He worked for farmers in the Fertile area and was employed at the soybean plant in Mason City for more than 25 years. He also worked at the Cenex Station, which he later owned and operated under the name of Marv’s Service until the time of his death.

Marvin enjoyed working and watching sports, as well as the companionship of his buddies and customers at his station. He will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Fertile; five sons, Bruce Hansmeier and his wife, Glenna, of Clear Lake; Mick Hansmeier and his wife, Deb, of Minneapolis; Doug Hansmeier and his wife, Lisa, of Maple Grove, Minn.; Craig Hansmeier and his wife, Dawn, of Fertile; and Todd Hansmeier, of Clear Lake; two brothers, Robert Hansmeier and his wife, Jerry, of Aberdeen, Wash., and Roland Hansmeier, of Foley; nine grandchildren, Joe, Renee, Courtney, Brent, Shane, Dan, Tara, Abby and John; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor.

YUMA, Ariz. — Phyllis M. Rod, 50, formerly of Denver and Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at her home in Yuma of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess and the Rev. Dr. Steven Ullestad, Bishop, conducting the service. Graveside services take place at 10 a.m. Monday at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denver, United Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, or Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church building Fund in Yuma.

Phyllis was born Feb. 3, 1948, in rural Lone Rock, the daughter of A.B. and Ella Jensen Cherland. She received her education at Central Schools in rural Fenton and Waldorf College in Forest City. She graduated from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, in 1970 as a registered nurse.

She married Robert Rod on May 29, 1971, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, Minn. She worked most recently in the Post Anesthesia Care United at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, before moving to Arizona in April 1997.

She was a member of Gloria de Cristo Lutheran Church in Yuma, the Women of the ELCA, and was a volunteer in the surgical family waiting area at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her parents, of Algona; her husband, Bob, of Yuma, Ariz.; a son, Jason, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a daughter, Sonja, of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, their wives and children: Donald and Debra Cherland, Tina and Andrew of St. Paul, Minn., Roger and Cheryl Cherland, Jennifer, John and Jill, of rural Lone Rock, and Darlene Cherland, Keith, Kevin and Cole of rural Lone Rock; her mother-in-law, Inge Rod, of Fort Dodge; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, John and Sharon Janke and their children, Kirstin and Hans of St. Paul, Minn.

MANLY — Diane K. Dahl, 39, of Manly, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) from complications of diabetes at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland, of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly, officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel and will continue for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Diane K. Dahl was born Aug. 27, 1959 in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Maynard and Rosemary (Swenson) Dahl.

Diane lived in Manly all her life, but loved traveling, especially to Stillwater, Minn., Florida, Washington, D.C. and Montana. She also enjoyed shopping, driving her new car, riding motorcycles and fishing.

She was a laundry and kitchen aide for many years, first at the Americana Health Care Center, Mason City, then at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Manly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Rosemary Dahl, of Manly; her significant other, James Junker, of Manly; two brothers and two sisters, Denise Mayo and her husband, Clarence, of Manly; Dennis Dahl and his special friend, Lisa, of Mason City; Dani Dahl and his wife, Melissa, of Stillwater, Minn.; and Debbi Leewright and her husband, Troy, of Manly; nieces and nephews, Natalie Leewright and Garrett Leewright, both of Manly; Chad Dahl and Jordan Dahl, both of Stillwater, Minn.; Brad Mayo, Nicholas Dahl, Jacob Dahl, and Lucas Dahl, all of Manly; her kitty, Dumpster; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

CLEAR LAKE — Shelly J. Rose, 42, died Wednesday (Oct. 21, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City.

Shelly was born Dec. 24, 1955, in Mason City, the daughter of Orvin and Margaret (Baker) Vaage. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1974.

Shelly worked at Pamida and the Lake Theater. Shelly married Darvin Rose Nov. 6, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. They lived in Forest City and Garner before moving permanently to Clear Lake in 1988. She has owned and operated her own day-care center since 1978. Shelly was a member of the United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church in both Garner and Clear Lake.

Shelly enjoyed going to antique shops and craft shops. Friends and family remember her for always putting other first before herself, her great sense of humor, her love of music, her good cooking and most of all she enjoyed family gatherings. She loved doing crafts, arranging flowers, painting, being outdoors and drawing pictures for her kids. Shelly loved the fall.

Shelly is survived by her husband, Darvin Rose, Clear Lake; her mother, Margaret Vaage, Clear Lake; two daughters, Carrie Rose and Angie Rose, Clear Lake; one brother, Randy Vaage, and his wife, Linda, and their children, Jennifer, Michele and Jeff Vaage, Clear Lake; her mother-in-law, Laura Rose, Morgan, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Russell Rose and his wife, Karen, Sleepy Eye, Minn., and DuWayne Evenson, Minnesota Lake, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Torkelson, and her husband, Bernie, Granite Falls, Minn.

WINDOM, Minn. — Ardeht Ann DeVries, 59, of Windom, Minn. died Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 21, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, Minn.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers, of the Rudd United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home, Windom, Minn.

Ardeth Ann DeVries was born in Cottonwood County, Minn. on Sept. 1, 1939, the daughter of the late Willard V. Devries and Bernice K. (Muller) DeVries.

Ardeth is survived by her two sisters and one brother, Carol Salter, of Thornton, Colo.; Laurel Kapsalis, of Lawrenceberg, Tenn.; Craig DeVries, of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** Carl Henry Christiansen

OSAGE — Carl Henry Christiansen, 93, of Osage and formerly of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage and one hour prior to services at the church.

He was born Aug. 19, 1905 near Rock Falls in Cerro Gordo County, the son of Hans and Augusta (Wohlert) Christiansen. The family moved to West Cedar Township in Mitchell County where Carl was educated in Cedar School No. 4 and he later attended Nora Springs High School.

Carl was united in marriage to Myrtle Hanson on June 25, 1931 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. They farmed in Mitchell County until he retired in 1975. Myrtle died on Aug. 4, 1996.

Carl loved sports, two of his favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. For many years, he played ball with his brothers on the Cedar All-Stars. He was a well known horseshoe pitcher and was an avid bowler. Carl bowled until he was 91 years old and was a member of the Mason City Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

He enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carl established Christiansen’s Wildlife Habitat on the family farm and planted many trees.

He was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church where he held various church offices, and served on the Faith Lutheran Home Board of Directors.

He was survived by three daughters, Nancy Folkerts and her husband, Dale, of Rudd; Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Francis, of Osage; and Helen Randolph and her husband, Randy, of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Dr. Paul Christiansen and his wife, Barbara, of Mount Vernon; and George Christiansen, of Nora Springs; three brothers, John Christiansen and his wife, Marian, of Osage; Larry Christiansen and his wife, Frances, of St. Ansgar; and Glen Christiansen and his wife, AnnaBelle, of Nora Springs; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrtle; and two brothers, Al and Herb.

Leone Alice Krieger was born Sept. 8, 1909, in Nashua, daughter of Mont and Laura (Jones) Cagley. She was married to Lawrence Krieger.

Leone grew up in Nashua and graduated from Nashua High School. She worked many years as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney and Buttrey’s Clothing. She enjoyed dancing, watching sports and cooking.

Survivors include three children, Richard Krieger and his wife, Janis, of Mason City; Karen Pakovic and her husband, Eugene, of Sanford, Fla.; and Diane Levine and her husband, Edward, of Uba City, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one husband.
