Marie Wiseman

SHEFFIELD _ Marie Wiseman, 80, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward Clevenger officiating and the Rev. Steve Hollingsworth assisting. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Marie Catherine McCormick was born July 9, 1917, in Waukon, to Rose Ann Heim and Ed McCormick. She was the oldest of 11 children. She attended Catholic school through the ninth grade and then stayed at home to help raise her other siblings. In 1936, she married John Schager. They ran a trucking business in Waukon. In 1944, she married Albert (A.J.) Kosbau. Together they ran the Waukon Hatchery, Waukon Furniture Store, and built houses for resale. After Albert' s death, Marie moved to Sheffield and married George J. Wiseman, where they farmed together until retirement in Mason City. The last 10 years Marie has lived in Sheffield where she loved fixing up her home and keeping her yard beautiful "as God would have wanted it."

She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Cota and her husband, Chuck, of Harpers Ferry, Sharon Storholm and her husband, Don, of Bloomington, Minn., and Arlene Gerdes and her husband, Duane, of Sheffield; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Mary Dorothy and Sister Mary Louise, both of Dubuque; and also, a very special friend, Lola Lowe of Sheffield.

Mildred Elizabeth Werner

MASON CITY _ Mildred Elizabeth (Mrs. Otto F.) Werner, 92, of 1622 S. Pennsylvania Ave., died at 4:20 p.m. Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary beginning at 4:30, followed by a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Mildred E. Werner was born in Richmond on March 19, 1905, to Milt and Appolonia "Lona" (Markhoefer) Chapek, their second child and only daughter. Her father was a well known and highly respected contractor in that area. She attended schools in Richmond and nearby Kalona. She and her family moved to Cedar Rapids around the middle of the 1920s. She began her employment career there by learning the millinery trade and at which she worked for some time. She later worked as a waitress in restaurants in downtown Cedar Rapids.

While in her later employment, she met and married Otto F. Warner on June 5, 1930, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple had one son. They moved to Milbank, S.D. in early January, 1945, where Mr. Werner was the division lineman for the Milwaukee Railroad telegraph department. She worked as a jewelry store clerk in Milbank. The family then moved to Mason City in December 1950, due to Mr. Werner_s railroad employment transfer, and where they have made their home since that time. Mr. Werner died in July, 1969. In Mason City, Mildred worked as a clerk for F.W. Woolworth, Carter-Gilles Toyland and Discount Toys.

Mildred Werner was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of St. Joseph_s Parish Life Society and a member of St. Jude_s Circle. She was a member of Court Joan of Arc, No. 152, of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a member of the Milwaukee Railroad Women_s Club, the Mason City Women_s Club, and an original member of the Foursome Birthday Club.

She is survived by her son, Warren Werner, of Mason City; as well as a number of cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one brother, Glen Chapek.

Dorothy Riles

SHEFFIELD _ Dorothy Riles, 82, died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kent Mechler officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home.

Dorothy A. Anderson, the youngest child of Ole and Kathryn (Callahan) Anderson, was born on Aug. 20, 1915, in Sheffield. As a child she attended Zion Methodist (E.U.B.) Church in Sheffield. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1933.

She married Orin Gamble on June 1, 1935, in Hampton. They made their home in Sheffield. For many years she cared for her mother in their home until her mother passed away. She then worked for 10 years at Ahrens Nursing Home in Hampton, and eight years as a Home Health Aide for Franklin County. Orin passed away on Aug. 15, 1969.

On March 21, 1982, she was married to Clifford Riles at Zion-St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield. Until 1984, when they moved to their present home in Sheffield, she had always lived in the house where she had been born.

Dorothy passed away on Friday evening, Sept. 19, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East in Mason City, after a two year battle with cancer.

Dorothy was a member of Zion-St. John Lutheran Church and its circle. She had been vice president of the Sheffield Senior Citizens and a representative for Elderbridge Nutrition Program. In 1986, Dorothy and Cliff received the Governor_s Volunteer Award in recognition of their volunteer work for others. They also were honored by being named Outstanding Citizens for the 1987 Sheffield Sourdough Day celebration.

Dorothy enjoyed helping others, baking homemade bread, growing African Violets and doing crossword puzzles.

Surviving are her husband, Clifford; four stepsons and their spouses, Gary and Frances Riles of Dougherty, Gene and Carolyn Riles and Greg and Diane Riles of Sheffield, and Grant and Melinda Riles of Emporia, Kan. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Pamela Meints and husband, Daren, Steven, Michael, Kathy, Jeffrey, Jerry, Tyler and Ashley Riles; and one great-grandson, Ethan Meints; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orin; her parents; two brothers, Charles and Ralph Anderson; and two sisters, Ethel Emhoff and Elsie Tyler.

Hilda M. Wynn

MASON CITY _ Hilda M. Wynn, 101, died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. David A. Anderson of St. James Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and will continue on Tuesday until service time at Hogan Bremer chapel.

Hilda M. Wynn was born Sept. 24, 1896, in State Center, the daughter of Herman and Lena (Jagau) Eggers. She married Elmer Wynn on April 4, 1917, in Alden.

Hilda lived on several farms as a child. She and her husband moved to Mason City in 1928, where he was a carpenter. They moved to St. Paul, Minn. in 1942, where he worked as a custodian in a Federal Land Bank. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1946. Hilda returned to Mason City in 1994.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minn. She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Espinosa and her husband, Lawrence, of Mason City, and Loreen Steele of St. Paul, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Larry Espinosa and his wife, Roxie, Veronica James and her husband, Arlyn, JoAnn Liekweg and her husband, Dalvin, and Cindy Ewy and her husabnd, Mark, all of Mason City, Tom Steele and his wife, Sharon, and Linda Tepe and her husband, Joe, both of St. Paul, Minn., Rick Wynn of Minneapolis, Minn., and Carol Nader and her husband, Dr. Aziz of Chicago, Ill.; 14 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Eggers of Charles City; two sisters, Marie Michaelson of Kanawha, and Leona Comstock of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Harvey, Marvin and LaVern Wynn; three brothers, Harley, Clarence and Rollie (Pat) Eggers; and one sister, Mable Halfpap.

Gladys M. Beckman

MASON CITY _ Gladys M. Beckman, 76, 2035 12th St. N.E., died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton, with the Rev. Daniel Vojta officiating. Burial will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the Larken-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton.

Gladys M. Beckman was born Aug. 2, 1921, in New Hampton.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Faught and her husband, Thomas, of Mason City, and Cathy Lessor and her husband, Jerry, of Mason City; sons, David Beckman and his wife, Kay, of Minneapolis, Minn., Richard Beckman and his wife, Pamela, of Mason City, and Steven Beckman of Mason City; two sisters, Dorothy Douglas of New Hampton, and Peg Johnson of Manly; three sisters-in-law, Esther Barta of New Hampton, Mildred Yearling of Chicago, Ill., and Clara Yearling of Waterloo; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob, on Aug. 16, 1986; two sisters, Lucille Josephson and Bonnie Yearling; and seven brothers, Claude, Ray, Lowell, Orville, Kenneth, Russell, and Harlan Yearling.

Jessie L. Pattschull

MASON CITY _ Jessie L. Pattschull, 84, of 804 S. Kentucky Ave., died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Sharon Bettsworth officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be given to the Jessie L. Pattschull Memorial Fund.

Jessie L. Pattschull was born near Stanhope on July 4, 1913, the daughter of Roy S. and Ethel A. (Riley) Adams. Jessie came to Mason City when she started high school and graduated from Mason City High School in 1932. Jessie married William A. Pattschull on March 3, 1935, in Mason City. Jessie and Bill lived in St. Paul, Minn. from 1941 to 1943, 1943 to 1945 in Oklahoma, returning to Mason City in 1945, moved to Charles City in 1973, and back to Mason City in 1975.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and her ladies circle, Eastern Star, White Shrine, AARP, NARP, Age Wise, Senior Advantage, and a past member of Garfield PTA.

Survivors include her husband, William A. Pattschull of Mason City; one son, Richard W. Pattschull and his wife, Joyce, of Iowa City; one daughter, Barbara Ann Reiff and her husband, Al, of Ankeny; two grandsons, Jeff and Bryan Pattschull; and one granddaughter, Amy Reiff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Wayne Adams.

Marshall "Jene" Hain

MASON CITY _ Marshall "Jene" Hain, 59, of 1458 Second St. S.E., died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and until noon on Monday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or St. James Lutheran Church.

Marshall "Jene" Hain was born April 22, 1938, in rural Rockford, the son of Claud and Dorothy (Coons) Hain. Jene moved to Mason City when he was five years old ; he attended Mason City High School. Jene served as a corporal with the U.S. Army Paratroopers in Fayetteville, N.C., from April, 1957 to April, 1960. Jene married Shirley Basgall on Aug. 1, 1959, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. Jene was an owner/operator of his own truck from 1966-1976. He then drove for various truck lines, including Roadway Express until 1996, retiring due to ill health. While driving for Roadway Express he received several safety awards including a million mile safe driving award in 1996. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed drawing, painting and making duck calls. Jene was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hain of Mason City; two daughters, Judy Nelsen and her husband, Terry, of Mason City, and Jean Kraft and her husband, Brad, of Mason City; three sons, Jeff Hain and his wife, Lori, of Mason City, Jay Hain and his wife, Tamara, of Mason City, Jerry Hain and his wife, Angela, of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Ronald Nelsen, Samantha Kraft, Laurel, Mitch and Clint Hain, Brooke Hain, and Justin Hain; his mother, Dorothy Hain of Mason City; his father, Claud Hain and his wife, Lavonne, of Ventura; and three sisters, Clara Frank of Mason City, Joan Jones and her husband, Gene, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Nutting and her husband, Larry, of Aitkin, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, several aunts, nieces and nephews.

Virginia G. Yeakel

KANAWHA _ Virginia G. Yeakel, 77, died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susan Detwiler officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Virginia G. Yeakel was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Britt.

Survivors include three sons, James Yeakel and Randolph Yeakel, both of Kanawha, and Gregory Yeakel of Story City; one sister, Lucille Roe of Davis, Calif.; one brother, Marvin Townsend of Garner; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and one infant sister.

Mervin Lee

CLARION _ Mervin Lee, 95, died Saturday (Sept. 20, 1997) at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarion Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. H. Mark Else officiating. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, south of Holmes.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Willim Funeral Home.

Mervin Lee was born Nov. 22, 1901, in Leland, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Selma, of Clarion; and one brother, Roy, of Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Richard Remillard

SWALEDALE _ Richard Remillard, 64, died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Fullerton Funeral Home.

Milton L. Grijaliba Sr.

MASON CITY _ Milton L. Grijaliba Sr., 56, of 136 28th St. S.W., died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Other arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Tom Otis

WESLEY _ Tom Otis, 50, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at the home of his sister in Rochester, Minn., due to an illness of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Paul Bormann officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Tom was born July 15, 1947, in Algona, the son of Edmund and Theresa (Richter) Otis. He was a 1965 graduate of Garrigan High School in Algona. Tom was married to Janet Johnson in 1975, at Kanawha. They have one son, Matthew. Tom farmed and worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

Tom is survived by one son, Matthew, of Wesley; one brother, Edward of Wesley; five sisters, Kathryn Lucas of Bartleville, Okla., Janet Otis of Minneapolis, Minn., Margaret Otis of Rochester, Minn., Karen Kulzer of Rochester, Minn., and Carol O_Connor of Clinton, Ill. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

Viola Marie Thomsen

CLEAR LAKE _ Viola Marie Thomsen, 87, died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Galilean Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Meadow Township Cemetery, Langdon.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

The family of Viola Marie Thomsen has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Viola Marie Thomsen was born on Feb. 15, 1910, in Spencer, the daughter of Peter and Caroline (Andersen) Thomsen. She was baptized into the Christian faith on March 20, 1910, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Spencer. She was confirmed in her Christian faith at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer in 1925. She attended and received her elementary education in the rural Meadow Township School system, graduating from Spencer High School with a Normal Training Course on May 31, 1929.

She taught in several different rural schools in Meadow Township and in 1946, she traveled to Portland, Ore., where she found work at the Boyd Coffee Company, working as a bookkeeper for nine years. She also worked at the Electric Steel Foundry (Esco) in Portland, where she worked until her retirement on Feb. 15, 1975. She continued to live in Portland until 1984, when she moved to Clear Lake to be closer to her brother and family.

She loved working in her garden and raising flowers, especially Christmas Cactuses.

She was a member of the Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and a former 4-H leader in Spencer.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomsen, of Clear Lake; two nieces, Carla Nelson and her husband, Gary, of Sheffield, and Twylah Kragel and her husband, Mark, of Clear Lake; five great-nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her brother.

Dewain Hildebrand

CHARLES CITY _ Dewain Hildebrand, 75, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 1997) at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hauser Funeral Home.

Mary Theresa Dolan

CHARLES CITY _ Mary Theresa Dolan, 79, formerly of Dougherty, died Saturday (Sept. 20, 1997) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary_s Catholic Church, Roseville, with the Rev. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick_s Cemetery, Dougherty.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reid_s Funeral Chapel, Marble Rock, where there will be a scriptural wake service held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Mary Theresa Dolan Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Mary Theresa Dolan was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Dougherty.

Survivors include one sister, Carmilla Ullrich of Brookfield, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and eight brothers.

BRITT _ Mildred L. Munson, 92, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 1997) at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Milton L. Grijaliba

MASON CITY _ Milton L. Grijaliba, 56, of 136 28th St. S.W., died Friday morning (Sept. 19, 1997) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Officiating will be the Rev. Dwight Webster of the New Bethel Baptist Church, Manly. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

He worked for the Milwaukee Road Railway System for 23 years, both in Milwaukee and Mason City.

Milton is survived by his wife, Carole, of Mason City; one sister, Juanita and O.C. Young, four daughters, Sharron, Yolanda and Quincy, and Katrina Grijaliba, Cassandra and Q.E. Allen, one son, Michael Grijaliba, all of Milwaukee, Wis., one step-daughter, Jeanne and Al Burks, Theresa, Wis.; two step-sons, Michael and Laurie Gardner of Milwaukee, Wis.; two step-sons, Michael Laurie Gardner, Milwaukee, Wis., and Stephen and Kathy Gardner, Mesquite, Texas; 17 grandchildren, Bernell, La Quanda, Kendra, Sha-nik, Amelia, De Angelo, Ashley, Santajah, Tasheaka, Ronell, Kearea, Quentase, Jeffery, Keyanna, Kenya, Milton III, Pierre; step-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jason, Glenn, Dale and John; two nieces, Bernetta (Cookie), Regina and one nephew, Reggie, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Lula Grijaliba; one son, Milton Jr.; two sisters, Ella Mae Moss, Marie Dorsey; and one brother, Otis Rodger.

Bertha D. Pralle was born Aug. 30, 1905, in Niles, Ill.

She is survived by one daughter, Dona Mae Johansen of Latimer; one son, Arlow Pralle of Latimer; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, one sister, and two great-grandchildren.

Richard R. Remillard

SWALEDALE _ Richard R. Remillard, 64, of 204 Sixth St., died Friday (Sept. 19, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Following cremation the family will conduct private family services at a later date. Fullerton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard "Dick" was born on Oct. 22, 1932, in Sioux Rapids, one of seven children of Jess and Marie (Meyer) Remillard. He attended school in Sioux Rapids and then became a truck driver for many of his remaining years. Dick served his country honorably in the Army and was stationed in Korea. He was united in marriage to Madonna B. Stethem on June 7, 1955, at Worthington, Minn. They moved to Mason City in 1962. He purchased and operated Dick_s Tap in Manly along with his wife, Donna, from about 1986 until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Mason City VFW and Moose Lodge and when time permitted he enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Dick is survived by two daughters, Debra Morrison and her special friend, Mike Meyerhofer, of Mason City, Vickie and her husband, Darwin Johnson of Swaledale; three sisters, Vera and her husband, Floyd Nelson, of Sioux Rapids, Vesta Rouste of Spencer, and Wilma and her husband, Bob Hanson, of Sioux Rapids; six grandchildren, Travis, Troy and Todd Hambly, Mandi, Joy and Tad Morrison; two great-grandchildren, Kenyon and Tristian Morrison; and his favorite dog, Scottie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in January, 1997; one sister, Velma Remillard; and two brothers, Sam and Wayne Remillard.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

George H. Price was born Nov. 3, 1918, at Belle Plaine, the son of Glen H. and Anna B. (Hora) Price. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School and went on to receive education at Belle Plaine Business College and Hamilton Business College, Mason City.

George was employed as the Secretary-Treasurer for Henkel Construction Company for over 38 years.

On Sept. 6, 1941, he was united in marriage to Irene M. Jarosh at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

George enjoyed fishing, golfing and bowling. He loved woodworking and being outdoors, especially in his yard.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also of the V.F.W., Post #733, Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Price, Mason City; three daughters, Sister Joellen (Georgene) PBVM, Kansas City, Mo.; Charlotte M. Norman L. Kvale

GOODELL _ Memorial services will be held for Norman L. Kvale, 67, of Goodell, at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond.

Norman L. Kvale was born Aug. 28, 1930, to Helmick and Olena Kvale, on a farm near Goldfield. He attended school in Eagle Grove.

On Sept. 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Madella Orr of Eagle Grove at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Together, they farmed in the Goldfield and Renwick areas, until 1965, when they bought a farm in the Goodell area.

He retired in 1989, and in April 1997, they bought a home in Apache Junction, Ariz., where they planned to spend the rest of their retirement. They moved in July and he passed away on Sept. 15, 1997, at the Desert Vista Hospital after a lingering illness.

Norman is survived by his wife, Madella Kvale of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one son, Steve Kvale of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, Cindy Kvale of Goodell; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Clarice Johnson of Wells, Minn.; and two brothers, Harold Kvale of Thor, and Kenneth Kvale of Eagle Grove.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leslie.

Mary Theresa Dolan

Mary Theresa Dolan was born Oct. 16, 1917, in Dougherty, a daughter of John Francis and Elizabeth (Brinkman) Dolan.

She received her education at the St. Patrick_s School in Dougherty and lived at home in Dougherty until her mother_s death in 1969 when she entered the Nora Springs Care Center. She later became a resident of the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Throughout her lifetime, Mary overshadowed her own problems by the love she gave to "her boys" as she affectionately called her brothers, and sisters and their families. She also loved little children. Mary, in turn, showed real appreciation for those who loved her.

Living family members include her sister, Carmilla and her husband, Dr. Donald Ullrich, of Brookfield, Wis.; seven sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dolan of Ogden, Utah; Alyce Dolan of South Daytona Beach, Fla.; Irene Dolan of Salina, Kan.; Mercedes Dolan of Cedar Rapids; Benita Dolan of Williamsburg; Mary Ellen Dolan of Madison, Wis., and Frances Dolan of Marble Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Helen Dougherty; and eight brothers, Joseph, Aloysius, Victor, Vincent, Robert, John, Adrian and Leonard.

Robert Ryan Woods was born July 7, 1978, in Mason City, son of Stephen and Dorothy (Peterson) Woods.

Bobby graduated from Mason City High School in 1996 and was attending Universal Technical School in Chicago, Ill.

Bobby loved to hunt and fish and stock car racing. He will be missed by his family and everyone who knew him.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

George F. Keenan was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., son of John and Vernie (Cross) Keenan.

He married Margaret Howell on Oct. 23, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minn.

George and his family lived in Perry for 25 years until moving to Mason City. He worked 40 years for the Milwaukee and Soo Line Railroad until retiring in 1990 as a Senior Claim Representative. He then worked part time as a court attendant in Mason City.

George enjoyed playing golf and traveling.

George was a member of St. Patrick_s Catholic Church, Perry, where he served on the Parish Council and Board of Education. He was also a member of the Perry Golf and Country Club, a public address announcer for the Perry High School Baseball team and he coached Little League.

In Mason City, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Evening Lions Club and the North Iowa Mercy Health Center Volunteer Auxiliary.

Martha married H.G. "Bud" Phipps in Glendale, Calif., on Dec. 16, 1943.

Martha was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and she loved her four grandchildren.

She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, H.G. "Bud" Phipps, Mason City; one daughter, Barbara Phipps and her husband, Bob Strom, Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Mark Phipps and his wife, Cathy, Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren, Bradley Buell, Wichita, Kan.; Joseph Buell, Lawrence, Kan.; Mason Phipps, Cary, N.C., and Lauren Phipps, Cary, N.C.; one brother, Carl Bruchner and his wife, Ella, Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, A.J. "Bus" Bruchner; and one sister, Lola Zirbel Jenkins.

The family would like to thank all who have been so kind and generous throughout the past few years to Bud and Martha.

Alexander Holm Branstad

CLEAR LAKE _ Alexander Holm Branstad, infant son of Amanda Holm and Andrew Branstad, was stillborn Sunday (Sept. 21, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Private family graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Rockwell Cemetery, Rockwell, with the Rev. Peter Neurum and the Rev. David French.

Surviving family members of Alexander include his mother, Amanda Holm; his father, Andrew Branstad; maternal grandparents, Allen and Karen Holm of Clear Lake; paternal grandparents, Randy and Linda Flaherty of Mason City; maternal great-grandmother, Renelda Petersen of Clear Lake; maternal great-grandfather, Victor Holm of Charles City; three uncles, Aaron and Kevin Holm, of Clear Lake, and Ben and Michelle Branstad, of Rockford, Minn.; one step aunt, Colleen Flaherty; three step uncles, Eric, Nick and Shane Flaherty; and numerous great aunts and uncles.

Alexander was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Lorraine Holm; maternal great-grandfather, Ed Petersen; paternal great-grandmother, Florence Groh; and paternal great-grandfather, August Groh.

Hazel M. Cooling

MASON CITY _ Hazel M. Cooling, 95, of 829 13th St. S.E., died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.

Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel is survived by two sons, Dan Thomas of Mason City; and Neal Thomas, Herscher, Ill.
