Howard E. Bolding

MASON CITY _ Howard E. Bolding, 70, of 1527 S. Wilson Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 13, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. John Gannett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Howard Bolding Memorial Fund.

Howard was born April 26, 1927, the son of Clarence and Anna (Nelson) Bolding in Ruthven. The family later moved to Mason City where Howard graduated from high school.

On Feb. 4, 1950, Howard was united in marriage to Patricia Hogan in Mason City.

Howard was a mechanic who could fix anything regardless of what it was or who it was for. When he was not tinkering with his hands, he enjoyed fishing for trout, shooting pool, singing and dancing to the waltz and polka.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed watching them compete in their different sporting events.

Howard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Howard is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Nancy and her husband, Jim Luecht, and Janet and her husband, Richard "Rick" Wineman, all of Mason City; one son, Larry and his wife, Carolyn Bolding, of Mesquite, Texas; two brothers, Stanley and his wife, Karen Bolding, of Lilburn, Ga., and Francis LeRoy and his wife, Karen Bolding, of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Amber, Larry Jr. and Rachel Bolding, Ashley and Jared Luecht; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Ann Bolding; and one brother, Verlyn Bolding.

Marian Jean Kramer Trombatore

WODEN _ Marian J. Kramer Trombatore, 79, of Georgia, died Sunday (Aug. 31, 1997) at the North Fulton Regional Hospital, in Roswell, Ga.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bingham Township Cemetery, Woden.

Cataldo Funeral Home, Woden, is in charge of arrangements.

Marian Jean Kramer Trombatore, the daughter of Anthony and Mary Fingl, was born July 12, 1918, in Chicago, Ill.

She graduated from high school in Chicago, Ill.

She married Frank Gavencky and they made their home in Chicago.

In 1949, she married Ernest Kramer in Chicago. The couple made their home in Houston, Texas.

She married Luke Trombatore in Texas. Marian remained in Texas until 1987, when she moved to Minnesota and then Georgia to be closer to her son, Joel and his family.

She is survived by her two sons, Gregory and his wife, Barbara, of Hammond, N.J., and Joel Kramer and his wife, Linda, of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Kramer, in 1967; her husband, Luke Trombatore; and a brother, William Fingl.

Mark Earl Bergerson

SEATTLE, Wash. _ Mark Earl Bergerson, 29, of 4017 SW Admiral Way, Seattle, formerly of Emmons, Minn., died Friday (Sept. 12, 1997) at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 209 N. Washington, Lake Mills, Iowa.

Edward B. "Eddy" Levad

CLEAR LAKE _ Edward B. "Eddy" Levad, 45, of Opportunity Village, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick_s Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating. Burial will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, Forest City, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Edward B. "Eddy" Levad was born in Forest City on Aug. 18, 1952, the son of Gordon and Marie (Drugg) Levad.

In 1974, Eddy moved to Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, and has made his home there ever since.

Eddy was active in Special Olympics for many years and loved to swim and dance. He liked watching sports on TV and was a big Hawkeye and Viking fan.

Spending time with his family and friends at Opportunity Village was important to Eddy.

He died at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City on Sept. 14, 1997, at the age of 45 years.

He is survived by his mother, Marie Levad of Forest City; eight brothers, Charles Levad of Mason City; Richard Levad of Grand Junction, Colo.; David Levad, Yakima, Wash.; Steven Levad, Poplar, Mont.; Joseph Levad of Mason City; Thomas Levad of Wilton; James Levad of Forest City, and Robert Levad of Crystal Lake; three sisters, Mary Mosiman of Mason City; Susan Baugus of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Sharon Bedig of Watertown, Mass.; many nieces and nephews; and his many friends at Opportunity Village.

Eddy was preceded in death by his father.

Dorothy Jane Saunders Hamilton

GRAND RIDGE, Fla. _ Dorothy Jane Saunders Hamilton, 84, of Grand Ridge, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 1997).

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, she had lived in Sneads and Grand Ridge since 1989.

She was a professional ballet dancer who owned and operated a dance studio in Mason City, Iowa.

She danced professionally in road shows run by Eddie Foy Jr., Eddie Cantor, Jay C. Flippen and Cab Calloway, to name a few.

Mrs. Hamilton was also a business school teacher in the family owned Hamilton Business College located in Mason City.

She was a breeder of fine purebred Arabian show horses, half-Arabians, Appaloose-Arabian show horses and national show horses through the family_s nationally known Candyhorse Farm in Rockford, Iowa, and now in Grand Ridge.

She was also a writer and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Ward Hamilton, of Grand Ridge, Fla.; a daughter, Jane Marie Hamilton, of Grand Ridge, Fla.; and a foster daughter, Suzette Riches, of Holloway, Minn.

Private family services will be held. James and James Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, 4278 Lafayette St., Marianna, Fla. 32447, is in charge of arrangements.

Scott Jay Hill

CHARLES CITY _ Scott Jay Hill, 25, of 1700 Clark St., Charles City, formerly of Mason City, died Monday (Sept. 15, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor Randy Vaage officiating.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

Jesse Wright

CHARLES CITY _ Jesse Wright, 92, of 506 N. Joslin, died Monday (Sept. 15, 1997) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. James Slye officiating. Burial will be in the Howardville Cemetery, rural Floyd.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Jesse Isaac Wright was born April 18, 1905, in Cedar Township, Floyd County.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of Charles City; a son, Gerald of Floyd; two daughters, Marie Sherman of Denver, and Karen Tisor of Mason City; one sister, Anna Morey, Cresco; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, one great-grandson and three brothers.

Walter Swanson

MASON CITY _ Walter Swanson, 91, of 160 Granada Drive, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils C. "Chris" Hellevik, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and until noon on Wednesday. There will also be further visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Walter was born July 8, 1906, at Britt, the son of Carl and Hulda (Johansen) Swanson.

He attended Crystal Lake schools.

He was married to Nellie Roy on Sept. 19, 1935, at Albert Lea, Minn.

The couple farmed northeast of Mason City for nearly 40 years, until retirement in 1971 and they moved to Mason City.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1933 and was an usher for nearly 40 years and also taught Sunday school.

He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and had been active with the Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Swanson, Mason City; one daughter, Sondra Saathoff and her husband, Jerry, of Mason City; one granddaughter, Kim Allen and her husband, Steve, of O_Fallon, Mo.; one grandson, Terry Saathoff and his wife, Robin, of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Allen of O_Fallon, Mo., and Wade Johnson of Mason City; sisters, Myrtle Vilsack, Lake San Marcos, Calif.; Irene Billman, San Diego, Calif., and Geri Schuver and her husband, Norb, Nora Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Amy Davis; brothers, Elof, Fred, Vance, Almer, Raymond and Merle.

Memorials may be given to the Walter Swanson Memorial Fund.

Jacqueline Lorraine Kahl

JOICE _ Jacqueline Lorraine Kahl, 68, 307 Main St., died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Jacqueline Lorraine Kahl was born on May 3, 1929, at St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Arnold August Albert and Winona Vae (Cardinal) Zuehlke. She graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee, Wis.

On Oct. 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Maynard Kahl at Grand Meadow, Minn.

Jacqueline was an avid crafter and loved to quilt. She also enjoyed traveling with Maynard to Texas to spend the wintertime.

She was a past member of the Clear Lake Women_s Club and volunteered at the Handicap Village General Store.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Maynard Kahl, Joice; two daughters, Judith Vae Wonsmos and her husband, John, of Joice, and Barbara Jean Wood and her husband, Bruce, Rockford; four grandchildren, Robyn, Andrew, and Nathan Wood and Jeanne Graham, all of Rockford; three great-grandchildren, Shawn, Zachary and Kristina Graham, all of Rockford; one brother, Roger Zuehlke, Milwaukee, Wis.; one niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Scott Jay Hill

The family suggests memorials to Comprehensive Systems or Hospice of North Iowa.

Scott was born Sept. 25, 1971, in Mason City, the son of George A. And Merridy (Zirbel) Hill.

He attended Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, Vinton, until the age of 11; then moved to Comprehensive Systems in Charles City, where he has lived ever since. He worked at the Comprehensive Work Center.

Scott loved music, whistling, camping, attending ball games and going for walks.

Scott is survived by his mother, Merridy Hill, Mason City; two sisters, Linda Clausen and her husband, Michael, of Mason City, and Gloria Hill of Waterloo; one brother, Randy Hill, of Charlotte, N.C.; two nephews, Brent Clausen and his wife, Shelly, Sheffield, and Joshua Clausen, Mason City; one niece, Michaelle Bahnsen and her husband, Brian, of Des Moines; one great niece, Alyson Clausen; and two great nephews, Hunter Clausen and Joseph Bahnsen; also aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father on Dec. 24, 1995.

Lucille Olthoff Hintzen Steeke

PERHAM, Minn. _ Lucille Olthoff Hintzen Steeke, 77, of Perham, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 1997) at Merit Care, Fargo, N.D.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John_s Lutheran Church, Corliss Township, with the Rev. Del Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, rural Perham.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today at the church.

Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Leona Steeke was born on Jan. 26, 1920, in Kanawha, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Ruth Johnson Nuehring.

On March 21, 1929, she was received into God_s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. On April 9, 1933, Lucille publicly confessed her faith in her Savior in the Rite of Confirmation. Lucille grew up in Goodell, Iowa.

On Aug. 6, 1936, she was united in marriage to Eric Olthoff. Their marriage was blessed with two children. In 1937, they moved to Mason City, Iowa.

On July 7, 1948, she was married to Walter Hintzen. They were blessed with three children. In 1967, they moved to the Perham area where they owned and operated Big Pine Resort. Following Walter_s death in 1970, Lucille moved to Perham.

On Oct. 28, 1972, she was married to Herb Steeke. She continued to live in the Perham area until she passed away at Merit Care, Fargo, N.D., on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at the age of 77, after suffering a series of strokes.

Lucille will be remembered as a homemaker who loved her family, her cooking, gardening and had many other interests.

She was an active member of St. John_s Lutheran Church and served in the Mary and Martha Society for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, of Perham, Minn.; her mother, Ruth, of Mason City; Iowa; sons, Larry and Rose Olthoff, Mason City, Iowa; Leigh Hintzen, Perham, Minn., Gilbert Hintzen, Moorhead, Minn., and Randy and Linda Hintzen, Frazee, Minn.; one daughter, Beverly Francis Ames, Klemme, Iowa; five stepdaughters, Cheri and Gary Eifert, Fort Collins, Colo.; Linda and Jerry Ronning, Dent, Minn.; Karla and Don Breitenfeldt, Faribault, Minn.; Shirley and Russell Steele, Fairmont, Minn., and Kendra Wolford, Perham, Minn.; three brothers, Orval (Virginia) Nuehring, Mason City, Iowa; Wilbert (Marilyn) Nuehring, Clear Lake, Iowa, and Robert Nuehring of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Beulah (Richard) Fairbanks and Alice (Joe) Rowe, both of Mason City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her death.

She was also preceded in death by her father, in 1981; one grandson, Mark Olthoff in 1961; great-grandson, Matthew Adkins, in 1997; one stepson, Gary Steeke, in 1980; and one stepgrandson, Daniel Breitenfeldt, in 1979.

Brigadier Alice M. Bolowahn

MASON CITY _ Brigadier Alice M. Bolowahn, 79, of 1205 Ninth St. S.W. , died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 203 First St. S.W.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Donald F. Evenrud

CLEAR LAKE _ Donald F. Evenrud, 68, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997) at Willow Creek Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church Sunday School Program.

Donald was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Glenwood Township, near Decorah, the son of Ferdinand and Dagny (Lovstuen) Evenrud. He grew up on a farm near Waukon. He attended the country schools in Glenwood Township, graduating from Waukon High School in 1947.

Don married Helen Leidahl in 1949, at Decorah. The couple later moved to Clear Lake.

Don worked for H & H Distributing Company in West Union, until expanding the company to Clear Lake. He then worked for Perfect Plus Hosiery while also operating Evenrud_s Cafe, now known as the Coffee Shop. For the last many years he was an agent with Banker_s Life and Casualty Insurance Company.

Don was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school.

His hobbies included reading, trading stocks on the New York Stock Exchange, spending time with family, and especially his grandchildren.

Don is survived by five children, Bruce Evenrud of San Diego, Calif.; Sheryl Sexauer and her husband, Glenn, of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Mark Evenrud of Des Moines; Bonnie Knutson and her husband, Matt, of Clear Lake, and Michael Evenrud of Newton; seven grandchildren, Mindy and Megan Drew, Tanner, Chad, Lane, Robert and Ashley Evenrud; and special friend, Joyce TenHaken.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Calvin R. Diegel

NORA SPRINGS _ Calvin R. Diegel, 87, of Nora Springs, died Monday (Sept. 16, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nora Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Harry Edward "Larry" Freiberg

CORWITH _ Harry Edward "Larry" Freiberg, 75, of Corwith, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 of Corwith at the Corwith Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

Harry Edward "Larry) Freiberg" was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Chicago, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Rena, of Corwith; children, Alan Freiberg of Rapid City, S.D.; Bruce Freiberg of Winfield; Ann Freiberg of Iowa City, and Craig Freiberg of Aberdeen, S.D.; eight grandchildren; stepchildren, Nancy Haan, Steve Claude and Tony Claude, all of Garner; five stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; three brothers, Robert Freiberg of Winston, Ore.; William Freiberg of Orland Park, Ill., and Richard Freiberg of Palos Heights, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one grandson, one brother and one sister.

Jacqueline Kay Nelsen was born on May 1, 1961, at Belmond.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Schlesky; her son, Ryan; her parents, Don and Joann Nelsen; a brother, Craig Nelsen; and her grandmother, Bernice Sebert.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, her paternal grandfather and one son.

MASON CITY _ Brigadier Alice M. Bollwahn, 79, of 1205 Ninth St. S.W., died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the Salvation Army.

Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army in memory of Brigadier Alice M. Bollwahn.

Brigadier Alice M. Bollwahn was born on April 23, 1918, the daughter of Daniel and Alice (Nelson) Evans in Williamsburg, Iowa.

Alice was active in the Presbyterian Church and followed her mother in vocal and piano music.

Upon the family moving to Newton, Iowa, Alice attended and graduated from Newton High School in 1935.

Alice began attending the Salvation Army and while attending Coe College in Cedar Rapids, she dedicated her life to the ministry. Alice graduated from the Salvation Army College for Officers' Training with the rank of lieutenant and was ordained in June of 1938.

She married Captain Ellis Bollwahn on Jan. 3, 1940, in Janesville, Wis. Together they served as pastors and community workers with The Salvation Army in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa, for 41 years, retiring in 1979 from the Mason City Corps/Community Center.

Brigadier Bollwahn was active in civic and community affairs, such as Altrusa Club, Business and Professional Women's Club and Church Women United.

An accomplished musician, she performed as well as organized and directed youth and senior vocal and instrumental groups.

Survivors include her husband, Brigadier Ellis Bollwahn, Mason City; son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Colonels Paul and Ronda Bollwahn, Alexandria, Va.; daughter-in-law, Mary Hill, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Gwyndel Evans, Beverly Hills, Calif., Joshua Bollwahn, Denver, Colo., and Lindsay Bollwahn, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Miriam Johnson and her husband, Frank, of Rockford, Ill.; two close cousins, Jane Anderson, Rapid City, S.D., and Rebecca Doolittle and her husband, Bob, Cedar Rapids; and a host of family and friends who mourn but also rejoice in her "Promotion to Glory."

She was preceded in death by her parents; and oldest son, William, a resident of Mason City, in 1992.

Lou Heidkross was born on Sept. 28, 1903, on the family farm near Sheffield, the daughter of John and Etta (Froning) Heidkross.

She attended country schools near Sheffield and Swaledale, graduating with the Class of 1922 from the Sheffield High School. She received her normal training in High School and from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, before returning and teaching in the country schools in the Sheffield and Swaledale areas.

In 1936, she moved into Sheffield where she has lived in the same home, until moving to the Sheffield Care Center in 1996.

Lou enjoyed quilting and tatting.

Lou joined the First Baptist Church in Sheffield on June 11, 1927, and took great pride in doing White Cross work, serving on the mission board and serving as a Sunday School teacher, along with being the Sunday School superintendent for many years. She was also active in the Faith Circle, Philathea Class, also of the church. Other organizations to which she belonged were B2 Study Club and the Hillside Cemetery Society.

Lou is survived by one sister, Ione Lage and her husband, Max, of Sheffield; two nephews, John Lage and his wife, Meta, of Sheffield, and Gerald Lage and his wife, Colleen, of Stillwater, Okla.; one great-niece, Andrea Lage and her husband, Christopher Woltemade, of Shippensburg, Pa; three great-nephews, Michael Lage and his wife, Diana, of Mason City, Mark Lage and his wife, Pamela, of Sheffield, and Brian Lage, of Gladbrook, Iowa; four great-great-nephews, Brandon, Tyler, Ryan and Jacob Lage, all of Sheffield.

Charles H. Zobeck

RICEVILLE _ Charles H. Zobeck, 80, of Riceville, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at the Regional Health Services Hospital, Cresco.

Charles was born Aug. 6, 1917, in North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his two half brothers, Nelson Zobeck and Raymond Zobeck.

Calvin R. Diegel

NORA SPRINGS _ Calvin R. Diegel, 87, a retired grocer, died Monday (Sept. 15, 1997) at home in Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be at the Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the Sheckler's Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Mr. Diegel was born on Nov. 1, 1909, at Rudd, to German immigrant parents, Adam and Anna (Morische) Diegel.

He graduated from the Nora Springs High School and attended the engineering program at the University of Iowa, where he was a member of Sigma PI.

After college, he worked for Tatum Hardware Company, in Nora Springs. In the middle 30s, he moved to Arizona where he was buyer of heavy hardware for the O.S. Stapley-Arizona Hardware Company, a wholesale hardware distributor.

In 1943, he was united in marriage to Doris Kluver.

In 1944, he returned to Nora Springs where he was connected to the Kluver Mercantile Company, a general store. In 1957, the general store was closed and a grocery store was opened which he operated until he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Central Methodist Church in Phoenix where he was a member of the choir.

After returning to Nora Springs, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he was a past superintendent of the Sunday School.

Mr. Diegel was a 50-year member of the Masons and he was a charter member of the Nora Springs Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; his son, Charles, of Nora Springs; his sister, Barbara Evans, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and his brother, Lester Diegel, of Nora Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold, of Mesa, Ariz.

James Lloyd 'Jim' Wise

MASON CITY _ James Lloyd "Jim" Wise, 67, of 1616 Meadowbrook Drive, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Ruth Hansen, of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, and the Rev. Richard Pippert, of United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and until time of services Monday, at the funeral chapel.

Jim was born May 24, 1930, at Wesley, a son of John and Gertrude (DeVary) Wise. He married Darylene J. Smith on Nov. 8, 1952, at Sioux Falls, S.D.

He attended Mason City Schools and was a graduate of Mason City High School. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He attended Linotype school at Charles City and worked for several newspapers including: Tracy Times, Tracy, Minn.; Maquoketa Sentinel-Press, Maquoketa, Iowa; Savanna Times-Journal, Savanna, Ill. In 1963 Jim began working at the Mason City Globe-Gazette, where he was a Linotype operator, and later operated Quik Tek Printing at the newspaper. He retired from the Globe-Gazette in 1989.

Following retirement Jim worked part-time at Larson Printing Co., Mason City. For the past 10 years, Jim and his wife, Darylene lived at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, where they helped with visitations and office duties. Jim especially enjoyed helping and visiting with people.

He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, and VFW Post #733, Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Darylene Wise, Mason City; one son, Jason Wise and his wife, Lori, Mason City; one daughter, Tina Gabel and her husband, Steve, Mason City; four grandchildren, Calista Kingery, Stephanie Wise, Jeffery Wise, Michael Wise; his mother-in-law, Ethel Burtis, Mason City; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son, Troy Wise.

Albert E. Baker

OSAGE _ Albert E. Baker, 86, of Osage, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1997) at the Faith Home in Osage, of cancer.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Osage Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. There will be military rites at the grave by the Osage American Legion Post #278.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage.

Albert E. Baker was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Olney, Ill., the son of Emery and Ella (Manning) Baker.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Africa as an Escort Guard for 2½ years. He returned to the surrounding communities of Osage, Charles City, Clear Lake and Waterloo, where he farmed until he retired.

He married Blanche Evans in 1935. They were later divorced.

He then married Fern Kindschuh in 1942.

He was very active at the Osage Senior Citizens Center. He was a very loving and caring person.

He is survived by one daughter, Delores Badker and her husband, George, of Osage; three sons, Duane Baker and his wife, Sharon, Anchorage, Alaska, Donald Baker and his wife, Mary, of Rock Falls, and Larry Baker and his wife, Cherell, of Kinchdae, Mich.; five sisters, Cleo Smith, of Mitchell, Esther Ruble, of Osage, Bernice Williams, of Wyoming, Alta Barnes, of Eureka, Calif., and Ethel McDanial, of Vaccaville, Calif.; one brother, Kenneth Baker, of Utah; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; two sisters, Grace Raymond and Ruth Wallace; and one infant brother, Roger Baker.

Visitation will begin after 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with a Women of the Moose service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Parish wake service at 7 p.m.

Sharon was born on March 24, 1938, at St. Cloud, Minn., to Peter and Evelyn (Hanson) Dombovy.

She graduated from the Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, in 1956. She then attended nursing school in Minneapolis.

During her early years, she raised her family and worked part time in Minneapolis, Hudson, Duluth, and New Ulm.

She was united in marriage to Dan D. Duray on June 26, 1975, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They moved to Mason City in 1992 and she worked in the Floral Department at Cashwise Foods, and most recently in food service at Newman High School and Mason City High School.

She was active in the circles at Holy Family where she and Dan were members.

She especially enjoyed visiting with her girls across the Midwest.

She was always ready for fun and enjoyed going for hay rides and fishing at the Lake of the Woods. She was an active participant on the Moose Lodge bowling team.

Sharon leaves behind her loving husband, Dan, of Mason City; her mother, Evelyn Dombovy, St. Cloud, Minn.; nine daughters, Sandy and her husband, Craig Anderson, Menomonee Falls, Wis., Katy and her husband, Jim Latimer, Mukwonago, Wis., Kathy and her husband, Andy Johnson, Trego, Wis., Shelly and her husband, David Battenberg, Clintonville, Wis., April Duray, Mason City; Debbie and her husband, Dennis Bauer, Cannon Falls, Minn., Barbara and her husband, John Keene, Hastings, Minn., Jean and her husband, Rick Isle, Stillwater, Minn.; and Penny Duray, Hastings, Minn.; two sons, Al and his wife, Karen Duray, and Tom and his wife, Diane Duray, all of Hudson, Wis.; one sister, Dr. Mary Dombovy and her husband, Mike Johnson, of Webster, N.Y.; and one brother, Jim and his wife, Debbie Dombovy, of Cambridge, Minn.; 22 grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

Sharon was united in death with her father, Peter, one nephew and two aunts, Barb and Irene.

Charles Russell Beed

GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. _ Charles Russell Beed, 75, an 18-year resident of Green Valley, Ariz., passed away Tuesday (Sept. 16, 1997).

Born in Hampton, Iowa, on Feb. 17, 1922, he married Jean Tryon on April 5, 1942.

After serving in the military during World War II, they resided in Titonka, Iowa, where they raised their family and operated Beed Hardware for 32 years.

He enthusiastically served the community through his activities in American Legion Post No. 66, V.F.W. Post 8027, Meals on Wheels and Pueblo Estates Security.

Charles was a member of Valley Presbyterian Church and enjoyed memberships in the Santa Cruz Valley Car Nuts, American Antique Car Association Tucson Region, International Jim Beam Bottle Club of Tucson, Pueblo Estates Men's Club, and was employed by Ace Hardware in Green Valley for 17 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; a sister, Helen Schram and her husband, Wilbur, of Clear Lake, Iowa; a son, Gary Beed and his wife, Nancy, of Poway, Calif.; daughters, Ruth Kennedy, of Chico, Calif.; Ginger Braden and her husband, Dave, of Fairfax, Iowa; and Charla Kudej and her husband, Keith, of Madrid; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a beloved cousin, Bob Kennedy and his wife, Dorothy, of Green Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ethel Kennedy Beed; and a nephew, Jeff Schram.
