Leland "Skip" Hartwell

CHARLES CITY

CHARLES CITY _ Leland "Skip" Hartwell, 87, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Leland "Skip" Hartwell was born March 28, 1910, in Marshalltown.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Charles City; two daughters, Joan Strickler of Greene, and Janet Bonzer of Charles City; one son, Jerry of Charles City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Gerald and Daniel, both of Mason City, and Paul of Clear Lake; and two sisters, Helen Crowell of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Charlotte Tipton of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.


Phyliss Sheppard

ALGONA _ Phyliss Sheppard, 65, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Kossuth Regional Hospital.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. Other funeral arrangements are pending at the Geilenfeld-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.


Martha Bel

THOMPSON _ Martha Bell, 83, of the Manly Care Center, formerly of Thompson, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

KANAWHA _ Duane D. Jordanger, 67, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at his home.

Frances Basener

MESERVEY _ Frances Basener, 75, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Grarup Funeral Home.

Frances Vivian Basener was born on Feb. 3, 1922, in Meservey, the daughter of Christian Jurgen and Pearl Ethel (Prall) Wendel. She was baptized April 16, 1922. She graduated from Meservey High School in 1939, and continued her education at Westmar College in LeMars, where she graduated in 1942 with a degree in education. She taught school for one year each in Goodell, Alexander and Clarion. On June 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Herbert Francis Basener at the Salem Evangelical United Brethern Church in Meservey. They farmed near Thornton from 1947 to 1949, and then moved west of Meservey where they continued to farm. Francis was active in many church activities, American Legion Auxiliary (lifetime member) and Girl Scouts (lifetime member). She enjoyed making quilts for the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as working on family history and playing her keyboard.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert, of Meservey, and their five children: Lawrence and Wanda Basener of Belmond and their three children, Chris and Ann Basner of Nevada, Clint of Pella, and Cherie at home; Velma and Al Durbin of Versailles, Mo., and their three children, Robert Baughman of Columbia, Mo., and Nancy and Phillip Burkhart of Versailles, Mo., and their children, Angel and Ty, and Carolyn and Scott Hall and their twin daughters, Katie and Hallie of Fort Polk, La.; Evelyn and Tom Dail of Greene, and their daughter, Crystal, at home; David and Donna Basener of Meservey, and their four children, Nicole, Nathan, David and Danielle, at home; Nancy and Martin Kroeze of Thornton; a sister, Mildred McFate, and her husband, Warren, of Newton; and a brother, Roland Wendel, and his wife, Erma, of Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She passed away June 14, 1997, at her home in Meservey. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.


Gary D. Monson

EMMONS, Minn. _ Gary D. Monson, 53, died Friday (June 13, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmons Lutheran Church with burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills.

CHARLES CITY _ Tillie J. Blevins, 82, died Friday (June 13, 1997) at the Whitewater Health Care Center in St. Charles, Minn.

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Raible

FORT MADISON _ Gerald "Jerry" Lee Raible, 46, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Tim Sheedy officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday with a Rosary at 3 p.m. at the King-Lynk Funeral Home. The family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Gerald "Jerry" Lee Raible was born June 24, 1950, in McKeesport, Pa. He graduated from Fort Madison High School, Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill., and Michigan State University. On May 20, 1983, he married Virginia "Ginny" Collins. For 22 years, he was a golf course designer and superintendent. He designed Beaver Run Golf Course in Des Moines. Most recently, he worked as a car salesman for Neihaus Motor Company in West Burlington. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus and the Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association.

Survivors include his wife, Ginny Raible, of Fort Madison; his parents, Jim and Ethel Raible of Fort Madison; three step-sons, Douglas Battleson, Dean Battleson and his wife, Laura, and Steven Battleson and his wife, Cherie, all of Mason City; one step-granddaughter; two sisters, Janice Harris of Ridgeway, Va., and Joanne Poole of Wentzville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James.

Madelon Mullen

CLEAR LAKE _ Madelon Mullen, 88, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

Ruth M. Peterson

ALBERT LEA, Minn. _ Ruth M. Peterson, of 1707 Gateway, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at Naeve Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, with the Rev. Richard Spande officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth, Minn.

Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth was an avid bridge player, frequently playing in tournaments. She was a longtime member of the American Contract Bridge League.

She is survived by her husband, Harold E. Peterson of Albert Lea; six children, Darlene G. and her husband, Michael Dies, of Barrington, Ill., Bruce A. Peterson and his wife, Elissa, of Minneapolis, Kathleen A. and her husband, Peter Ehrhardt, of Kenai, Ark., Ronald L. Peterson of Minneapolis, Collen Smith of Champaign, Ill., and Lance E. Peterson of Zimmerman, Minn.; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mildred Coole of Duluth, Minn.; two nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Bergman; and a sister, Mary Bergman.

Truman A. Flaaten

KENSETT _ Truman A. Flaaten, 79, of rural Kensett, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

KANAWHA _ Duane D. Jordanger, 67, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at his home in Kanawha.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kanawha Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dugger Ewing Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church. Kanawha American Legion will conduct military rites.

He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Kanawha.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jordanger, of Kanawha; one daughter, Cynthia Mathiason of Armstrong; one son, Randall Jordanger of Kanawha; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Phyllis Sheppard

ALGONA _ Phyllis Sheppard, 65, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Kossuth Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Catholic church with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Geilenfelt-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Chapel. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today.

Phyllis was born on Dec. 16, 1931, in rural Wesley.

Survivors include her husband, Duane, of Algona; four daughters, Diane Schwenke of Grand Junction, Colo., Deb Smith of Algona, Donna Passick of Canton, S.D., and Brenda Groskreutz of Kearney, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Ferstl of Algona; and three brothers, Dennis Cink of Wesley, James Cink of Clevland, Minn., and Michael Cink of Algona.

MASON CITY _ Elias Kelroy, 102, of 1405 S. Delaware, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Gary D. Monson

EMMONS, Minn. _ Gary D. Monson, 53, of 424 High St., died Friday (June 13, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmons Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Emmons.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Gary was born Sept. 6, 1943, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minn., the son of Bert and Cynthia (Ellingson) Monson.

He had been employed at Farmland in Albert Lea, Minn., since 1961 with the exception of the years he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Gary was a great outdoorsman and will be missed by everyone in the Emmons community. He was on the Emmons Fire Department, was commander of the Emmons American Legion Louis/Tviete Post No. 317 and had also served as Scout Master.

Survivors include Vicki Olson and her son, Brad Olson, both of Emmons, Minn.; two brothers, David and his wife, Nancy Monson, of Forest City and their two children, Anne and Katie Monson, and Paul and his wife, Marilyn Monson, of Newell, and their two children, Scott and Michael Monson.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

KANAWHA _ George "Dutch'' Evans, 80, of Kanawha, died Monday (June 16, 1997) at his home.

Elmer E. Cook

ALGONA _ Elmer E. Cook, 83, of Algona, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Don Seeger officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Elmer E. Cook was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Algona.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Algona; one sister, Opal Sparks, Evergreen, Colo.; and three brothers, Richard Cook and Dwight Cook, both of Algona, and Russel Cook, Forsythe, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one infant sister.

Ruth Flora

GREENE _ Ruth Flora, 101, of 219 N. Water St., died Monday (June 16, 1997) Liebe Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, with a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service. There will be further visitation one hour before services at the church.

Dianna Ruth Flora was born Jan. 30, 1896, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Flora of Greene; three daughters, Norma Flora and Evelyn Straw, both of Charles City, and Eleanor Reed of Greene; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Barth of Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers and a brother in infancy.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Ruth Flora Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Betty Ready

CHARLES CITY _ Betty Ready, 77, of 901 E St., died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Karen Rask Behling officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, near Charles City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., and from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church on Thursday.

Betty B. Chrencik was born April 18, 1920, at Osage.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Charles City; one daughter, Pat Trainer, Charles City; one son, DuWayne Ready , Prairie Village, Kan.; one brother, Paul Chrencik of Austin, Minn.; and one sister, Anna Hunter of Austin, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by infant twin sisters and two brothers.

Elias F. Kilroy

MASON CITY _ Elias F. Kilroy, 102, formerly of 1405 S. Delaware Ave., died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St.Joseph Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural prayer service at 6 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral chapel.

Truman A. Flaaten

KENSETT _ Truman A. Flaaten, 79, of rural Kensett, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Mark Bents of First Lutheran Church of Northwood officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 S., Northwood, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Truman was born on April 6, 1918, on the family farm in rural Kensett, to Knut and Clara Lestrud Flaaten.

He was baptized and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. Thor Sigmond.

He graduated from Kensett High School in 1936.

Truman married Truly Ones on Dec. 28, 1941, in Albert City.

He farmed the same farm all of his life, while also working at Winnebago in Forest City and Crystal Sugar Factory in Mason City.

He was secretary-treasurer of the Elk Creek Cemetery Association.

Truman is survived by his wife, Truly, of Kensett; one son, Truman Kevin Flaaten and his wife, Sandra, of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters, Ruby Flaaten of Rochester, Minn.; Trudy and her husband, Drew Bendickson, of Northwood, and Karen and her husband, Harlan Rollenhagen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Fred Rollenhagen of Greeley, Colo.; Kari Rollenhagen, of Salem, Ore.; Tim Rollenhagen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Molly Flaaten, Adam Flaaten and Seth Flaaten, all of Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Garda Ones of Mason City; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ralph G. Bode

OSAGE _ Ralph G. Bode, 80, of Osage, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Champion Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clark Christian officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, with graveside military rites by the Orchard American Legion Post 641 and Osage VFW Post 7920.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 9 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Ralph G. Bode was born April 15, 1917, at Goodell.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Akin of Webster, Minn.; three sons, Edward Bode of Catawissa, Mo.; Robert Bode of Orchard, and David Bode of Orchard; his father, Cornelius Bode of Osage; two brothers, Kenneth Bode of Charles City, and Paul Bode of Osage; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and one brother.

Madelon M. Mullan

CLEAR LAKE _ Mrs. Madelon M. Mullan, 88, of 1120 S. Eighth St., died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating.

Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. , with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Madelon was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Sheffield, the daughter of Ruben and Maude (Ormrod) Esslinger.

She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1926 and then attended Hamilton Business College, Mason City.

Madelon worked at Harry Mason Ford Garage in Clear Lake as a bookkeeper for two years, then joined her parents in operating the Lions Cafe in Clear Lake for two years.

Madelon married Francis "Frank" Mullan on June 23, 1931, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Madelon was the bookkeeper at Esslinger-Mullan Farm Implement and helped her husband operate the business until 1955.

Madelon enjoyed cooking, gardening, raising flowers, doing ceramics, playing 500, traveling, watching the Lawrence Welk show, going north fishing and the Clear Lake Senior Citizens.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.

Madelon is survived by two sons, Don Mullan and his wife, Marcia, Bella Vista, Ark., and Terry Mullan and his wife, Nancy, Clear Lake; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Mullan of Mason City; four grandchildren, Kevin Mullan of Denver, Colo.; Scott Mullan of San Francisco, Calif.; Mark Mullan of Tempe, Ariz.; and Monty Mullan, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two stepchildren, Jason Dasch of Des Moines, and Brenda Dasch of Clear Lake; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1993; and one infant sister.Local/Hollatz Jr.

Fred F. Hollatz Jr.

CLEAR LAKE _ Fred F. Hollatz Jr., 91, of Clear Lake, died Monday (June 16, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, rural Garner.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Fred F. Hollatz Jr. Was born on May 1, 1906, on the family farm near Clear Lake, the son of Fred Hollatz Sr. and Mary (Manthei) Hollatz.

He was baptized in 1906 and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation in 1921 at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner.

He attended and received his elementary education in the Grant Township school system and attended St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner.

He was united in marriage to Flora Hansen on May 1, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner. She preceded him in death in 1972.

During his life, Fred worked for Williams Furniture and funeral home.

He also owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store in Clear Lake.

During World War II, Fred and Flo lived in Los Angeles, Calif. , where he worked at a civil defense factory.

He also worked for Ward's Funeral Home until his retirement.

After his retirement he opened a furniture repair and reupholster shop in his home in Clear Lake.

Fred enjoyed fishing, playing cards and visiting with his many friends.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, and was a member of the Clear Lake Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hansen of Clear Lake; five nieces, Margaret Seitel of Santa Monica, Calif.; Darlene Jacot and her husband, Robert, of St. Ansgar; Norma Jean Gobeli and her husband, Daryl ,of Mason City, Pat Davis of Garden Grove, Calif., and Lucille Hersey and her husband, Jerry, of Issaquah, Wash.; three nephews, Bob Hansen of Minneapolis, Minn.; Harold Hansen of Shakopee, Minn., and Gordon Bruchner of Anacortes, Wash.; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Lois , and four brothers, William, Walter, Adolph and Arthur Hollatz.

Glenna L. Gruetzmacher

DES MOINES _ Miss Glenna L. Gruetzmacher, 91, of 3520 Grand Ave., Des Moines, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at the Wesley Acres.

No services are planned. The body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines.

Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Wesley Acres Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Acres, 3520 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50312 in her memory.

Glenna L. Gruetzmacher was born in Klemme, Hancock County.

She lived in the Klemme area before moving to Des Moines, where she had lived since 1943.

She taught music at Perkins Elementary School for 27 years in the Des Moines Public School system.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Des Moines, a graduate of Drake University and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She was a member of the King's Daughters, the Des Moines Women's Club and a member of Ding Darling Women's Chapter of Izaak Walton League.

She is survived by one nephew, James H. Gruetzmacher of Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin B. Gruetzmacher and Elizabeth Stille Gruetzmacher; and one brother, Herald A. Gruetzmacher.

Tillie J. Blevins

CHARLES CITY _ Tillie J. Blevins, 82, of Charles City, died Friday (June 13, 1997) at the Whitewater Health Care Center, St. Charles, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Eyota, Minn., with the Rev. Lyle Kath officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church in Eyota, Minn.

There will be further visitation from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., with a 1:30 p.m. prayer service.

Graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverside Cemetery.

Tillie Blevins was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Charles City.

She is survived by one son, Charles Blevins, of Eyota, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Glenn W. Boyd

CHARLES CITY _ Glenn W. Boyd, 86, of 2215 Ocean Ave., died Monday (June 16, 1997) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank, pastor of West St. Charles United Methodist Church near Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens near Charles City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Glenn William Boyd was born July 18, 1910, at Grundy Center.

Survivors include one brother, Duane Boyd of Charles City and one sister, Doris Marth of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the West St. Charles United Methodist Church or the Heart to Home Hospice of Charles City.

Martha Bell

THOMPSON _ Martha Bell, 83, of Thompson, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Perry Fruhling officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Winter Funeral Home.

Martha Bell was born Jan. 19, 1914, at Buffalo Center.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Kaiser of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Jane Speck of Aurora, Colo.; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Josephine Rippentrop and Jan Oliver, both of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Elias F. Kelroy

MASON CITY _ Elias F. Kelroy, 102, formerly of 1405 S. Delaware Ave., died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a criptural prayer service beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Elias F. Kelroy was born Oct. 11, 1894, in Mason City, son of Matthew and Theresa (Jones) Kelroy.

He married Bernice Conlin on Sept. 5, 1921, in Sanborn.

Elias grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School. He served in the Navy during World War I.

He worked the Milwaukee Railroad from 1912 to 1934 and then worked for the State of Iowa Liquor Store in Mason City until 1955. He then again worked for the Milwaukee Railroad until retiring in 1965.

Elias enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He enjoyed wintering in Florida.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1006 for the past 84 years.

Survivors include one sister, Sylvia Russell, Mason City; three granddaughters, Kathleen Fisher, Mill Valley, Calif.; Mary Heller, Oceanside, Calif., and Christine Blackburn, San Francisco, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jason and Sarah Fisher, all of Mill Valley, Calif., and Marissa and Macarah Heller, both of Oceanside, Calif.; a cousin, Margaret Kelroy of Mason City; and several cousins from Wisconsin and Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice in 1986; one daughter, Patricia Ann Horowitz in 1991; and one brother, Michael E. Kelroy.

CARPENTER _ Russell E. Finch, 79, of Carpenter, died Monday (June 16, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Newberg Cemetery, Carpenter.

Russell E. Finch was born June 18, 1917, in Worth County, to Frank Melvin and Alice (Pike) Finch.

Russell served in the United States Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he was employed as an independent trucker.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Hollatz on Aug. 11, 1946, in St. Ansgar.

He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post in Grafton.

He enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife, Margaret Finch of Carpenter; two daughters, Nancy Keough and her husband, Terry, Mason City, and Rita Luther and her husband, Roger, Rock Falls; one son, Dennis Finch and his wife, Janice, of Carpenter; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva Gordon of Belle Plaine; and one brother, Earl Finch of Cambridge, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one grandson.

Ralph G. Bode

OSAGE _ Ralph G. Bode, 80, of Osage, died Sunday (June 15, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice

Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clark Christian officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, with graveside military rites by the Orchard American Legion Post 641 and Osage VFW Post 7920.

Visitation was held from 4 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Ralph G. Bode was born April 15, 1917, at Goodell.

Survivors include one daughter, Jeanette Akin of Webster, Minn.; three sons, Edward Bode of Catawissa, Mo.; Robert Bode of Orchard, and David Bode of Orchard; his father, Cornelius Bode of Osage; one sister, Thelma Griggs of Sheridan, Wyo.; two brothers, Kenneth Bode of Charles City, and Paul Bode of Osage; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, mother and one brother.

Leonore Boman

FOREST CITY _ Leonore Rilla Gettis Boman, 96, of Forest City, died Saturday (June 14, 1997) at the home of her daughter in Lacy, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. John

Fuller officiating. Burial will be in the First Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church.

Memorial Funeral Home, 12 16th St. S.E., Sioux Center, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born to Grant and Lucy (Prescott) Gettis on Feb. 18, 1901, on a farm east of Forest City.

She attended country school through the eighth grade.

Leonore was employed for several years at the Candy Kitchen in Forest City.

She also worked as a mother's helper and attended her sisters when they gave birth to their children.

She was married to Albert Rudolph Boman on May 2, 1928, in Denver, Colo., by the Rev. William Turnwall.

They farmed a mile north and a mile east of town.

Over the years, Albert and Leonore opened their home to her sister, Myrtle and brothers, Darrell and Jabe and his wife, Joan.

She loved Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and served Him as a member of the First Baptist Church.

She was a member of the Women's Circle, serving as president for several years, as well as being active in the Dorcas Society and serving with the First Baptist Cemetery Association.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Arlyn Peter and Elizabeth Boman of Forest City; a daughter and her husband, Vinita and Carl Cady of Lacey, Wash.; five grandchildren, Tom and Julie Boman of Des Moines; Theo and Teresa Boman of Sioux Center; Nancy and Matt Gjerde of Springdale, Ark.; David Cady and Stephen

Cady, both of Seattle, Wash.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Breeanna, Barbara, Peter, Sonja,

Arlyn, Michelle, Mason, Wally and Jamison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Charlie, Darrell and Jabe; sisters, Nellie Johnson, Myrtle Swan, Zelda Twito, Hattie Stover and Mabel Langfald; and two siblings in infancy.

George 'Dutch' Evans Jr.

KANAWHA _ George "Dutch'' Evans Jr., 80, of Kanawha, died Monday (June 16, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David A. Lee. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, with graveside services by the Kanawha American Legion.

George "Dutch'' Evans Jr. Was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Woolstock.

CHARLES CITY _ Joseph A. Ochs, 85, of 1202 Court St., died Wednesday (June 18, 1997) at the

Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Rev. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in Cal-vary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with a 3 p.m. rosary by the St. Joseph's Circle, and a Vigil Scriptural wake service at 8 p.m., followed by the recitation of the rosary by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on

Saturday at the church.

Joseph A. Ochs was born Dec. 11, 1911, at Stringtown, Ill., the son of Anthony and Clara Roth Ochs.

Survivors include his wife, Ardith of Charles City; two sons, Donovan of Solon, and Melvin of

National City, Calif.; two brothers, John Ochs of Pesotum, Ill., and Herman Ochs of Olney, Ill.; two

Evelyn Berry

FRESNO, Calif. _ Evelyn Berry, 78, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday (June 17, 1997) in Fresno.

The body was cremated. Services will be held later in Mason City, Iowa.

Buchheim Family Home Colonial Chapel, Fresno, is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Lockle and her husband, Ray, of Bass Lake, Calif., and Carolyn Johnson and her husband, Ernie, of Fresno, Calif.; one grandson, Richard Keough; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Marsh and his wife, Lillian, Gordon Marsh and his wife, Delores, and Roger Marsh, all of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters, Patricia McCormick and her husband, Larry, of Fertile, Iowa, and Shirley Solberg of Mason City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter.

MASON CITY _ John F. Loebig, 67, of 688 First St. S.E., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (June 17, 1997).

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Knights of Columbus rosary beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a Scriptural prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

John Francis, the third born child of Victor John Loebig and Viola Agnes (Doughan) Loebig was born Aug. 11, 1929 ,on the family farm.

He attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Wesley and graduated from Britt High School in 1948.

On Oct. 2, 1950, John married Marie Alice Wellik at St. Wenceselaus Catholic Church in Duncan.

Their life together centered on sowing seeds on various farms in North Central Iowa. He worked as a salesman for Welp_s Feed in Bancroft, Golden Sun Feed in Bondurant and Nutrena Feeds in Ankeny.

John and Marie spent 25 years in Iowa Falls, again sowing seeds on farm land and operating a bulk gas tank service.

In the autumn and winter years of his life, John became an orderly. He was employed at North Iowa Mercy Health Center demonstrating Godly love and humor to all those he touched.

John would say his wealth is his family. Those include his wife, Marie of Mason City; his children, Janice and her husband, Wm. Michael Charbonneaux, and their children, Justin Michael and John Samuel Charbonneaux of Britt; Nancy and her husband, Norman Everhard and their children, Jennifer, Dorinda and Kirk Everhard of Clinton, Wis.; Mark Loebig and his wife, Yvonne Kelso, and their children, Jason and Jamie Kelso of Gainesville, Fla.; John K. And his wife, Vicki Loebig, and their children, Jordan John and Bailey Jo Loebig of Grimes; Sarah Loebig and her daughter, Kaylee Sciachitano of Norwalk; Patrick and his wife, Theresa (Kim) Loebig, and their children, Benjamin Allen and Samantha Joi Loebig of Tallahassee, Fla.; Max and his wife, Celia Loebig and their children, Gerald and Michael McNutt of Laughlin, Nev.; Anne and her husband, Douglas Rose of Waterloo; and Peggy and her husband, Gregg Curtis of Mason City.

Other survivors include a brother, Al Loebig, of Cherokee; and four sisters, Rita Rasmussen of Forest City, Sister Mary Jo Loebig of Eldridge, Ellen McManus of Wilmette, Ill., and Kay Cook of West Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Merle Loebig.

John will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his love for his family, his love of music and his tremendous sense of humor.
