Roger L. Vosburgh

MASON CITY  



Roger L. Vosburgh, 56, of 2119 S. Jefferson Ave., died Thursday

(May 29, 1997) at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.



Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial

Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, with the Rev. David Anderson

of St. James Lutheran Church, officiating.



In accordance with Roger's wishes his body has been cremated.

No visitation will be held.  Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126

Third St. N.E., is handling arrangements.



Roger Lee Vosburgh was born May 13, 1941, at Mason City, the

son of Harley H. and Esther I. (Lorenzen) Vosburgh.  He married

Judy Momyer on July 4, 1993, at Mason City.



Roger was raised in Burchinal, later moving to Mason City. 

He was a 1960 graduate of Clear Lake High School, Clear Lake.

For many years he drove truck for his father at Vosburgh Trucking,

Burchinal.  Later he drove for Plagge Truck Lines, Mason City.

Most recently, Roger was a driver with Fermented Products, Mason

City.



He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, and

a 30 year member of the Moose Lodge, Mason City.



Roger is survived by his wife, Judy Vosburgh, Mason City; one

daughter, Shelley Sullivan and her husband, Mark, Ramona, Calif.;

two sons, Todd Vosburgh and his wife, Charlotte, El Cajon, Calif.,

and Ryan Vosburgh and his wife, Amy, Des Moines; a step-daughter,

Sandy King and her husband, Dion, Mason City; a step-son, Mike

Momyer, Mason City; six grandchildren, Ricky Blount, Blair Vosburgh,

Tyler Vosburgh, Casey Sullivan, Kylie Sullivan, and Chelsea Vosburgh;

three step-grandchildren, Wesley King, Taylor King, and Christopher

Kirschbaum.



He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and an

infant son.

Marie A. Bennett

MASON CITY  



Marie A. Bennett, 77, of Rolling Green Village, Nevada, formerly

of Mason City, died Thursday (May 29, 1997) at Mary Greeley Medical

Center, Ames.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Major-Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Merlin

Ackerson of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. 

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and Monday morning

until time of services at the funeral home.



The family suggests memorials to the Marie A. Bennett Memorial

Fund.



Marie Bennett was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Barnum, Iowa, the daughter

of Scott and Julia (Feazel) Travis.  Marie married Lavern B.

Bennett Feb. 29, 1944, at Fairmont, Minn.  Marie helped operate

a salvage yard at West Bend for a number of years, moving to

Mason City in 1979.  While in Mason City, Marie and Lavern were

active in flea markets and antiques.  Marie moved to Nevada in

1994.



Survivors include sons, Larry L. Bennett and wife, Rita A.,

of Ames, Bob B. Bennett and wife, Penny, of Mason City, and Chuck

W. Bennett and wife, Karla, of Mason City; daughters, Carol J.

Calligan of O'Fallon, Ill., Joann M. Greene of Ida Grove, Sandra

S. Calligan and husband, Denny, of Norman, Okla., and Patricia

K. Hefflefinger and husband, Lowell, of Ames; one brother, Delmar

Travis of North Branch, Minn.; and 17 grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lavern in

1989; three sisters; and two brothers.

Alexander Speakar

CLEAR LAKE  



Alexander Speakar, 84, of 5407 240th St., died Thursday (May

29, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran

Church with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating.  Burial will

be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors

conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N Fourth St., and one hour prior to

services at the church on Tuesday.



Alexander Speakar was born April 7, 1913, at Seratov, Russia,

the son of John and Katherine Marie (Speakar) Speakar.  On July

24, 1932, he was married to Alice Whitney at Bethlehem Lutheran

Church, Mason City.



Prior to his service in the military, Mr. Speakar was employed

by Deckers Meat Packing in Mason City.  He entered the United

States Army in 1944.  Early in his enlistment he worked as an

airplane mechanic at a defense plant in Wisconsin.  He later

served as a foot soldier and as an interpreter for German soldiers

while he was stationed in Germany and France.  He was discharged

in 1946, at the rank of PFC, in the Cannon Company of the 264th

Infantry.



After his military service, Alex and his wife, Alice, owned

and operated the Oakwood Grocery on the south shore of Clear

Lake from 1946-1962.  He was employed by the Clear Lake Schools

as a bus mechanic from 1959-1974.



Mr. Speakar spoke fluent German and liked watching western movies.

He enjoyed music and played many instruments including the accordian,

guitar, mouth organ and organ.  He also liked horses.



He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.



Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice Speakar,

Clear Lake; four children, Joan Bales and her husband, Kenneth,

Mason City, Sonia Molencamp and her husband, Larry, Clear Lake,

Robert Speakar and his wife, Aletha, Clear Lake, and Kathleen

Thomsen and her husband, Eric, Muscatine; nine grandchildren;

13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Stricker and her husband,

Dave, Mason City; and one brother, Emmanuel Speakar, Mason City.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers,

John and Robert, and two in infancy in Russia.

Alice M. MacVey, 91, died Saturday (May 31, 1997) at the Hancock

County Memorial Hospital.

Ethel I. Miller

DUBUQUE  



Ethel I. Miller, 89, formerly of the Grafton area, died Friday

(May 30, 1997) at the Luther Manor Nursing Home.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy

Trinity Lutheran Church, Dubuque.  Her ashes will be placed in

the cemetery in Grafton at a later date.



The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday

at the church.  The Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home is in charge

of arrangements.



Ethel I. Miller was born Dec. 24, 1907, in Tilden Township in

Cherokee County, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Larson) Johnson.

She graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee, and then

attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating in 1931 with

honors.  On Dec. 25, 1934, she married Earl L. Miller in Cherokee.

He passed away in May of 1959.  She was a high school English

and home economics instructor at Oto, Clarinda, Carpenter and

Grafton prior to retiring.  She was a member of the Holy Trinity

Lutheran Church in Dubuque and the Esther Circle at the church.



Survivors include one daughter, Sondra Ray of Dallas, Texas;

three grandchildren, James and (Kristi) Mahnke, Ann and (Bruce)

Scott, and Katherine and (Martin) Mahnke-Thomas; and four great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter,

Clo Ann Mahnke on Aug. 27, 1988; three brothers; and three sisters.



The family requests no flowers.  Memorials may be given to the

Education Fund of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Dubuque.

Lawrence E. `Boone' Chipman

BURT  



Lawrence E. ``Boone'' Chipman, 74, died Friday (May 30, 1997)

at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United

Methodist Church with the Rev. Sue Thomas officiating.  Burial

will be in the Burt Township Cemetery with military rites provided

by the Carter-Scott Post #5236 of the V.F.W.



Visitation will begin at 7:30 p.m. today and will continue after

9 a.m. Monday at the Wilson Funeral Chapel.



Lawrence E. ``Boone'' Chipman was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Burt.



Survivors include two daughters, Linda Marlow of Burt, and Cynthia

Polz of Jackson, Minn.; two sons, Joel and John, both of Burt;

one brother, Richard Chipman of Bancroft; and nine grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son, and

three brothers.

Irene (Sweenie) Hanig, 68, died Friday (May 30, 1997) at the

Westview Care Center, Britt.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph

Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Bormann officiating.  Burial

will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Roberts-

Murphy-Schaaf

Funeral Home.  A prayer service will be held at 3 p.m., and a

C.D. of A. Rosary will be held at 4 p.m.



Irene (Sweenie) Hanig was born May 26, 1929, in Wesley.



Survivors include one brother, Eugene Hanig of Marshalltown.

Emmanuel ``Nick'' Kaloplastos

IRMO, S.C. 



Funeral services for Emmanuel Nicholas ``Nick'' Kaloplastos,

70, were held recently at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church

with the Rev. Robert Fix and Msgr. Charles H. Rowland officiating.

The Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, in Irmo, was in

charge of arrangements.



Mr. Kaloplastos died on May 16 (1997).  He was born in Stuben,

Crawford County, Wis., the son of the late Sadie (Groom) Kaloplastos

and Nicholas Emmanuel Kaloplastos.  He was a member of Our Lady

of the Hills Catholic Church.



Mr. Kaloplastos joined the U.S. Navy (amphibious) and served

on the U.S.S. Hyde from 1944 to 1949.  He later joined the U.S.

Army and was stationed in the South Pacific, Vietnam, Korea,

Indochina and China.  He received several commendations, awards

and medals, including the Good Conduct Medal (eighth award),

four overseas bars, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army of Occupation

Medal (USARPAC), the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific

Campaign Medal and the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf

clusters.  Mr. Kaloplastos was a member of Veterans of Foreign

Wars Post 641.  He retired at Fort Jackson in 1972 and from Fort

Gordon, Ga., in 1992.



Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth Vitzthum Kaloplastos

of Irmo; sons, John A. Kaloplastos and James M. ``Jim'' Kaloplastos,

both of North Augusta; daughters, Dawn M. Beard and Nikki K.

Lee, both of Hopkins, Dale K. Simpson of Lexington, Mary K. Warren,

Rita I. McLendon, Holly K. Kaloplastos and the late Ann Marie

Black Kaloplastos, all of Irmo, Brandy K. Kaloplastos of Columbia,

and Christina M. Maddox of North Augusta; brother, Jack N. Kaloplastos

of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Mary Colling of Mason City; 18

grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ethel L. Avery, 94, died Sunday (June 1, 1997) at the Belmond

Health Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis

Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Jack Paisley officiating.

Interment will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell.



Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today with a 2:30

p.m. parish rosary and an 8 p.m. scripture service at Tenold

Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services

at the church.



Ethel L. (O'Rourke) Avery, the daughter of James and Anna (McGurk)

O'Rourke, was born July 5, 1902, at Britt.



She attended Britt Public School until she was 14, and the family

moved to Kanawha, where she graduated from Kanawha High School

in 1922.  She attended Hamilton Business School for a while,

and was united in marriage to Anson Emmett Avery of Goodell.

They resided on the same farm east of Goodell all their married

life.  After her husband's death in 1985, Ethel continued to

live on the farm for 8 years, until failing health required hospitalization,

and she then became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center.



She is survived by her daughter, Lois Ann Hafermann and her

husband, Daryl, of Thornton; grandchildren, Sherri and her husband,

Ron Barnes, David Hafermann and his family and Scott Hafermann

and his wife, Jo; seven great-grandchildren; three nieces; and

one nephew.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anson; brother,

Lloyd O'Rourke; and sisters, Edna Gilligan and Viva Parker.

Hattie Bottoms, 96, died Sunday (June 1, 1997) at the Dows Health

Care Center.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral

home.



Hattie Bottoms was born Nov. 9, 1900, at Webster City.



Survivors include one sister, Emma Pritchard of Urbana, Ill.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, three

brothers and two sisters.

Ann Munch, 65, died Saturday (May 31, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy

Health Center East, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the family

greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Petersen Lund Funeral

Home.



The family suggests memorials to the Blank Children's Hospital

Oncology Department in Des Moines or the United Methodist Church

in Forest City.



Ann Munch was born in Des Moines on May 29, 1932, the daughter

of Elmer and Anna (Lindblad) Rodine.  She attended Elm Grove

Elementary School and graduated from Indianola High School. 

She received her nursing degree from Iowa Methodist School of

Nursing in Des Moines.  On Aug. 22, 1954, she was married to

Frank Munch in Des Moines.



Ann began her nursing career in 1953 in the office of Drs.

Brown, Newland and Allender in Des Moines.  That year she also

received the Blank Children's Hospital Award for exceptional

ability in pediatric nursing.  In 1963, she became the school

nurse for Interstate 35 School in Truro.  In 1965, she joined

the staff of the Forest City Municipal Hospital.  She continued

nursing through 1966 with the Forest City Community Hospital

and, in 1967, she became a school nurse with the Forest City

School system.  Ann retired from nursing in December of 1993.



She was a member of the Forest City United Methodist Church

and served on various committees.  She was a Red Cross volunteer

and an alumni of the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing.  She died

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City on May 31, 1997,

at the age of 65 years.



She is survived by her husband, Frank Munch, of Forest City;

two daughters and their spouses, Carol and Jordan Greta of Newton

and Ruth and James Kozal of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and a son and

his wife, Frank III and Carla Munch of Dallas Center.  She also

is survived by two sisters, Mary Miller and her husband, Charles,

of Lacona, and Betty Longley of Dallas, Texas; a brother and

his wife, Carl and Louise Rodine of Grand Junction, Colo.; three

grandchildren, Meredith and Lucas Greta and Joseph Kozal; four

stepgrandchildren, Edie, David, Anne and Katy Kozal; and several

nieces and nephews.



Ann was preceded in death by her parents; two aunts, Esther

and Sigrid Lindblad; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rodine and

Cecelia Schultz.

and one infant sister.

Estella Neuerburg was born June 23, 1911, at Osage.



Survivors include her husband, Norbert Neuerberg, Osage; two

sons, Joseph Neuerburg of Traverse City, Mich., and Ronald Neuerburg

of Eldora; three sisters, Marie Kobernusz, Leona Rogers and Lucille

Hultman, all of Osage; and six grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one

sister.

Frank S. Swed Sr., 307 Ninth St. N.W., died Sunday (June 1,

1997) at his home.



A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday

at  Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Kremer and

Chuck Cooper, deacon, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St.Joseph

Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony by the Mason City Memorial

Association.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Scripture

Wake service and a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Frank S. Swed

Sr. Memorial Fund or Hospice of North Iowa.



Frank was born in Krakow, Poland, son of Michael and Eva Sweet.



Frank served in the United States Navy during World War II.



He learned the upholstery trade while in Minneapolis. He was

founder and former owner of Federal Upholstery for over 60 years.



He was a master of his trade and took great pride in his work.



Frank was a gentleman with a great sense of humor and he enjoyed

photography and spending time with his family.



He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Elks Lodge #375,

American Legion Post #701, VFW Post #733, Knights of Columbus

and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.



He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Swed, of Mason City; two

daughters, Peggy Solberg and her husband, Vaughn, of Mason City,

and Ruth Pidick of Denver, Colo.; one son, Frank Swed Jr. and

his wife, Connie, of Carlsbad, Calif.; nine granddaughters; one

grandson; six great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; one

sister, Rose Moravetz, of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Tony

Sweet of Lake Forest, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one

sister.

Charlotte (Solyst) Brandt, of 501 N. Shore Drive, died Sunday

(June 1, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion

Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Dean Hess and

the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn

Cemetery, Story City.



Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and will contine one hour

prior to services on Thursday at the church.



Charlotte (Solyst) Brandt was born June 16, 1916, in Story County,

daughter of Olaf and Melinda (Nelson) Solyst.



She married Clarence ``Ted'' Brandt on Nov. 7, 1937, in Hubbard.



Survivors include her husband, Clarence ``Ted'' Brandt, Clear

Lake; one son, Larry Brandt of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Karen

Black of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Richard Black, Seattle,

Wash.; Matthew Brandt, Columbia, Mo.; Cherylyn Black, Seattle,

Wash., and Patrick Brandt, Orlando, Fla.; three great-grandchildren,

Amelia Gabrielle, Noah Sebastian and Elysabeth Malen, all of

Seattle, Wash.; three sisters, Judith Freese, Ames; Gladys Fulmer,

Des Moines, and Irene Lumley, Clear Lake; one brother, Jessie

Solyst, Story City; and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Lester

Solyst.

Kathleen M. Sonnesyn

ANOKA, Minn. 



Kathleen M. Sonnesyn, 56, of Anoka, died peacefully on Saturday

(May 31, 1997) at her daughter's home in Ramsey.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran

Church, Four and Adams St., Anoka, with the Rev. Norman  Berg

officiating.



There will be no visitation. Thurston-Lindberg Chapel, Anoka,

is in charge of arrangements.

Henry C. Entner, 89, of 304 Third St. N.E., died Monday (June

2, 1997) at the Heritage Care Center.



Graveside services are tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday

at Memorial Park Cemetery.



There will be visitation after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Fullerton

James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., where other arrangements

are incomplete.

Albert B. Cooper

KANAWHA  



Albert B. Cooper, 87, of Kanawha, died Monday (June 2, 1997)

at the Kanawha Community Home.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Kanawha

Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. G. David Daley officiating.

Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Ewing-Dugger

Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church.



Albert B. Cooper was born Aug. 19, 1909, in Kanawha.



Survivors include his wife, Martha Cooper, Britt; two daughters,

Anita Brink of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Bonnie Geerdes of Wellsburg;

two sons, Larry Cooper of Kanawha, and Terry Cooper, Thatcher,

Ariz.; four stepchildren; two sisters, Gertie Knoll and Grace

Hole, both of Mason City; one brother, William Cooper of Clear

Lake; 14 grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;

and six stepgreat-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two

sisters and six brothers.

Leland Depping

SHEFFIELD 



Leland Depping, 72, of Sheffield, died Monday (June 2, 1997)

at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.



Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Evangelical

Lutheran Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Bob Hetrick officiating.



Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery,

Mason City.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Grarup Funeral

Home.



Mr. Depping was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Latimer.



Survivors include his wife, Wanda Depping, Sheffield; one son,

Doug Depping, Thornton; one brother, Henry Depping, Latimer;

and three grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and

one sister.

D. Gaius Vandenburg

BYRON, Ill. 



D. Gaius Vandenburg, 85, of Byron, died Sunday (June 1, 1997)

at his home.



A private graveside service will be held at Byron Cemetery,

Byron,  with the Rev. William Nelson of All Saints Lutheran Church

officiating.



A memorial fund in his name has been established.



The Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, Byron, is in charge of

arrangements.



Mr. Vandenburg was born April 25, 1912, in Monroe Center, the

son of Ernest and Junetta (Hurd) Vandenburg. He married Clara

Schreiber on  Nov. 13, 1933, in Ottawa.



Mr. Vandenburg loved his family, as well as farming. He was

a very successful farmer for 40 years, retiring in Hanford, Iowa.



He also was a member of the Interdenominational Community Church

in Iowa.



Survivors include his wife, Clara, of Byron; two daughters,

Peggy Clubb and her husband, Gene, of Byron, and Janice Hogan

and her husband, Thomas, Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren,

Terry Clubb and his wife, Barb, and Judy and Jim Clubb; two great-

grandchildren,

Toby and Trevor Clubb; as well as several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Dee Vandenburg,

and a sister, Gladys Bliss.

MASON CITY 



Signa L. King, 81, of Mason City, died Monday (June 2, 1997)

at Heritage Care Center.



Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Elmwood-

St. Joseph Cemetery, with the Rev. Owen Gaasedelen of Faith Lutheran

Church, Garner, officiating.



Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.



Signa L. King was born July 11, 1915, the daughter of Alfred

and Annette (Lindquist) Anderson. She married Samuel Clayton

King in 1945.



Signa grew up in Mason City and later worked at a nursing home

in Garner. She enjoyed reading, poetry and baking. She loved

animals.



Survivors include four children, Pat Groth, Clear Lake; Bonnie

Harrington, Lakeside, Calif.; Clayton King, Mason City, and Annette

Carl, Marshalltown; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry Anderson;

one sister, Ebba Barlow; and two brothers, Carl and Gunner Anderson.

Mary Lou Lannon

MASON CITY 



Mrs. James (Mary Lou) Lannon, 80, of 12 N. Willowgreen Court,

died Jan. 22, 1997, at Naples, Fla.



Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Elmwood-St.

Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Timothy R. Lannon

S.J., officiating.



Mrs. Lannon's body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., is handling

arrangements.



The family suggests memorials be sent to North Iowa Mercy Health

Center, 84 Beaumont Drive, Mason City, Iowa 50401.



Mrs. Lannon was born Mary Lou Newman in Milwaukee, Wis., on

Nov. 25, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. William Newman.



She attended schools in St. Louis, Mo., including Washington

University, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.



She married Gordon Jensen in Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Jensen died

in 1975.



She married James W. Lannon, M.D., on March 14, 1986, in Naples,

Fla.



Mrs. Lannon was a member of Edina Country Club, Edina, Minn.;

Mason City Country Club, Mason City; a volunteer at North Iowa

Mercy Health Center, Mason City, and a volunteer at Luvs, Naples,

Fla.



She enjoyed golfing and traveling.



Mrs. Lannon is survived by her husband, James W. Lannon, M.D.;

her stepchildren and their families, Denny Lannon and his wife,

Virginia, Mankato, Minn.; Kay  Brandt and her husband, Ned, Mason

City; Pat Johnson and her husband, John, Mason City; Mickey Funkhouser

and her husband, David, Mason City; Jim Lannon and his wife,

Esther, Lakeville, Minn.; Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., of Cambridge,

Mass., and Jean Bird and her husband, David, Clear Lake.

Elmer L. Martin

CAMDENTON, Mo. 



Elmer L. Martin, 79, of 147 Clint Ave., Camdenton,  formerly

of Mason City, Iowa, died Monday (June 2, 1997) at North Iowa

Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.



Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, Iowa,  with

the Rev. David Anderson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa, where

full military honors will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans

Memorial Association.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral

chapel, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral

chapel.



Memorials may be given to the Elmer L. Martin Memorial Fund.



Elmer L. Martin was born Feb. 25, 1918, at Mason City, Iowa,

a son of Elmer W. and Laura (Nash) Martin. He married Louise

L. Ames on Jan. 27, 1944, at Los Angeles, Calif.



Elmer attended Mason City schools. He served in the U.S. Navy

as a chief petty officer during World War II, stationed at Midway

Island. After his discharge, Elmer returned to Mason City, Iowa,

to work with his father at his business, Martin Welding. In 1956

he moved to Los Angeles, Calif., to work as an engineer with

National Cable and Wire  Co.



Upon his retirement from National Cable and Wire Co. in 1981

he moved to Camdenton.



He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting antiques

and working bingo games at the VFW.



Elmer was a lifetime member of VFW Post #5923, Camdenton.; a

past noble grand of IOOF Lodge, Mason City, Iowa, and past commander

of American Legion Post, Camdenton.



Elmer is survived by two daughters, Lila Heinzerling, Mason

City, Iowa, and Barbara A. Heinzerling and her husband, Elmer,

Mason City, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Cherie Molander and her

husband, Bryan; Suzanne Quam and her husband, James; Karen Harrer

and her husband David; Vickie Heinzerling; Joyce Odegaard and

her husband, Jack; Linda DeFord and her husband, Rick; Elaine

Charleson and her husband, Dan; Russell Heinzerling and his wife,

Pamela; John Heinzerling and his wife, Shannan; 15 great-grandchildren;

six sisters, Hilda Van Patten, Blockton, Iowa; Dorothy Auck,

Neshkoro, Wis.; Ida Kuehl, Des Moines, Iowa; Shirley Tatum, Mason

City, Iowa; June Enabnit, Redding, Iowa; Evelyn Peterson, Mason

City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
