Henry Koenigs

STACYVILLE _ Henry Koenigs, 92, of Stacyville, died Thursday (July 10, 1997) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meyer.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Visitation Catholic Church Hall. There will be a prayer service on Sunday at 3 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. at the Church Hall.

Henry was born Aug. 20, 1904, at Meyer, to Peter C. and Anna Marie (Klockner) Koenigs.

Henry married Barbara M. Hartogh on May 17, 1938, at the St. Peter Church in New Haven. His wife preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 1992.

Meyer was his home on his farm until he and his wife moved to Stacyville. He went to the Nursing Home in June 1995. Henry served on the School Board, Creamery Board, was a Parish Trustee, and involved with the Boy Scouts at Sacred Heart in Meyer. After moving to Stacyville he was a member of Visitation Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three sons; Phil and his wife, Sharon, of New Hope, Minn.; Ray and his wife, Kathleen, of Stacyville, and Tony and his wife, Patricia, of Meyer; one daughter, Suzann and her husband Dan Wageman of Stacyville; two brothers, Thomas Koenigs of Adams, Minn., and Philip Koenigs of Stacyville; one sister, Elizabeth Loecher of Stacyville; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter Elizabeth Ann; five brothers, Aloysius, John, Joseph, Leo and Mathias Koenigs; and four sisters, Mary Fasbender, Theresa Schneider, Katie Wettstein and Anna Hartogh.

Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. Eaton

HAMPTON _ Robert L. Eaton, 87, of Hampton, died Thursday (July 10, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Hampton Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Robert was born Jan. 14, 1910, in Oskaloosa.

Survivors included two daughters, Lucy Arends of Hampton and Vivean Broakman of Waterloo; one son, Paul Eaton of Waterloo; one sister, Lollie Cee of Orange, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, two daughters and one sister.

Dorothy June Mulford

EAGLE GROVE _ Dorothy "June" Mulford, 75, of Eagle Grove, died Thursday (July 10, 1997) at her home after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ, Hampton, with the Rev. Mark Young and the Rev. Chris Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, and continue from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday.

Dorothy June Moore was born on June 2, 1922, in Shell Rock, the daughter of Earl and Minnie (Lursen) Moore. She attended school in Geneva, before graduating from Hampton Community Schools in 1940. One March 27, 1944, she and Lloyd Mulford were united in marriage in Hampton. The couple resided in Iowa Falls before moving to Eagle Grove in 1951. She remained a devoted housewife and mother for her entire 53 years of marriage.

She was a longtime member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield. She loved to knit, crochet and spend time at their trailer in rural Madison Lake, Minn.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd of Eagle Grove; three children, Barbara Chambers and her husband, Bill, of Dows; Leon Mulford and his wife, Janice, of Charles City, and Sandra Mulford of Chandler, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Cindy and Chris Chambers of Dows, and Sarah and Danny Mulford of Charles City; one sister, Lucille Olhausen and her husband, Robert, of Auburn, Ind.; special friend, Sue Kirchhof of Chandler, Ariz.; five sister-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Vincent J. Staudt

MARBLE ROCK _ Vincent J. Staudt, 55, of 1951 340th St., rural Marble Rock, died Thursday (July 10, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City, following an extended illness of cancer.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary_s Catholic Church, Roseville, rural Marble Rock, with Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary_s Cemetery, Roseville.

Friends may call from 11 to 9 a.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday and there will be a Parish Scriptural Wake service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue from 9 until 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Vincent Joseph Staudt was born April 22, 1942, on the family farm in rural Marble Rock, the son of Clement Joseph and Susan Josephine (Zeien) Staudt. He attended grade school at St. Mary_s in Roseville. He then went to school in Marble Rock, and graduated from the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community High School in Rockford in 1960.

On Feb. 1, 1964, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, he was united in marriage to Linda Jean Crowell. The couple made their home on a farm in rural Marble Rock where they raised their four daughters. Vince was blessed that he could express his love of the land in his chosen profession of farming. For several years on the farm, Vince enjoyed the association of being a Golden Harvest Seed dealer. Vince was a tireless and cheerful volunteer many ways to his community and church. He was a member of the Lions Club of Marble Rock, where he was scheduled to be president this coming year. He was a faithful member of St. Mary_s Catholic Church of Roseville. He had served on the parish council and, at one time, served as president of the council. He often volunteered to sing in the choir at St. Mary_s, and frequently served as an usher.

Living family members include his wife, Linda of rural Marble Rock; four daughters, Julie Merfeld and her husband, Pat, of Dike; Angie Johnson and her husband, Scott, of Rockford; Michelle Kutschat and her husband, Jim, of Iowa Falls, and Jennifer Staudt, at home in rural Marble Rock; two brothers and their wives, Cletus and Sue Staudt, and Dennis and Patty Staudt, all of Marble Rock; a sister, Sister Marjorie Staudt, O.S.F. of Dubuque; seven grandchildren, Diann, Tony and Emily Merfeld of Dike, Derek, Travis and Logan Johnson of Rockford and Jessica Kutschat of Iowa Falls.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan, who died May 13, 1988, in Charles City; his father, Clement, who died Dec. 14, 1992, in Charles City, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Kutschat.

NORTHWOOD _ Eldon J. Evans, 64, of Northwood, died Friday (July 11, 1997) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

MASON CITY _ Sylvan A. "Sam" Momberg, 75, of 307 Parkridge Drive, died Friday (July 11, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services are tentatively planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Other arrangements are incomplete at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel.

MASON CITY _ Marion E. Wright, 89, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (July 9, 1997) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

There will be no visitation; the body was cremated.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Doug Anderson of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home.

BELMOND _ Herman Kuhlers, 98, died Friday (July 11, 1997) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Reformed Church with the Rev. Melvin Vows officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today and one hour prior to services at the church.

Herman was born Aug. 6, 1898, at Meservey.

Survivors include one son, Richard Kuhlers of Abernathy, Texas; one daughter, Aileen Moss of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alvina Kuhlers and Marie Dirksen both of Belmond and Alice Dirks of Meservey; one brother, Carl Kuhlers of Belmond.

He preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, and two brothers.

OSAGE _ Olive Helen Olson, 81, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at the Faith Home.

OSAGE _ Mary Jane Wellner, 98, formerly of Osage died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley, Minn., of natural causes.

Nora Johnson

KANAWHA _ Nora Johnson, 88, passed away Friday (July 11, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kanawha Lutheran Church with the Rev. James A. Mattson officiating. Interment will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. today at Ewing-Dugger Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Nora was born on Aug. 21, 1908, on a farm near Kanawha, the daughter of Nels and Elfreda Nerem Williamson.

She was united in marriage on July 14, 1928, to Alfred Johnson. The couple made their home with his mother for five year, thenmoved a half mile from the home place where they farmed for 42 years. They then moved to a farm north of East Twin Lake for 10 years. In 1981 they moved into Kanawha.

Nora was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of many committees.

Survivors include her daughter, Ileene Robinson of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, Jerry Johnson and his wife, Veronica, of Kanawha; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ardell Blendow of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and Verna Mowatt of San Bernadino, Calif.; three brothers, Lenard Williamson of Kanawha; Arnold Williamson of Marshalltown and Erling Williamson of Tacoma, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred in 1993; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and Krystal Hunter; five sisters and two brothers.

BANCROFT _ Catherine Bauer, 99, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at the Heritage Nursing Home.

MASON CITY _ Robert M. Layfield, 78, of Naples Fla., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at the Naples Florida Hospital.

Sylvan A. "Sam" Momberg

MASON CITY _ Sylvan A. "Sam" Momberg, 75, of 307 Parkridge Dr., Mason City died early Friday morning (July 11, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. Officiating will be the Rev. Richard Scheerer. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, where a flag-folding ceremony will be performed by the Charles City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel. An Elks Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home by the Mason City Elk_s Lodge #375.

Sam was born on Sept. 7, 1921 at Floyd, the son of Floyd C. and Orpha Louise "Hepner" Momberg. He received his diploma in 1939 from the Charles City High School. For a short time after graduation he worked for the Oliver Corporation in Charles City, and again after his time in the Army.

During WWII Sam served his country in the 91st Signal Corp. and was stationed in both Italy and North Africa. Sam was united in marriage to Lynne Ballantyne on May 15, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and to this union were born two children. He started working in Sales for the Bordon Ice Cream Company in Charles City and soon moved up to become the Branch Manager in Clinton, and then was promoted to District Manager in 1957 when they moved back to Mason City.

From 1965 until 1969 he served with the company as the State General Manager in Des Moines and then moved back to "God_s Country" of Mason City, where he maintained his manager position until his retirement from the company in 1980.

Sam, not being a person who could sit still, then worked in sales for area dairies and finished up his working career with 10 years of service at AMPI as a Government Inspector.

In his spare time Sam enjoyed hunting for upland game birds, bowling and playing golf. He was a Deacon at the First Congregational United Church of Christ where he was a member, he was a former member of the Kiwanis, and had served as a Scout leader in Clinton. He was also a life member of the Elk_s Lodge in Mason City, the President of the Pilgrim Place board, and a member of the VFW in Mason City. He also loved being active with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sam leaves many happy memories with his loving wife of 55 years, Lynne of Mason City; his children who include one daughter, Barbara, and her husband, James Nervig of Urbandale, and one son, Stephen A. and his wife, Debbie Momberg of Faribault, Minn.; six grandchildren, Margaret and Robert Nervig, Beth Fette, Kathryn Ryan, Christopher and Richard Momberg; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Nicholas Fette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Hazel, one infant sister, and one brother, Wayne Momberg.

She received her Nursing Degree from Methodist Kahler School of Nursing at Rochester, Minn., in 1930. Following graduation, she worked at the Mayo Clinic as a surgical nurse for Dr. William Mayo, Dr. Charles Mayo, and Dr. Henry Plummer.

On March 3, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harry A. Wright at Rochester, Minn.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mason City.

Survivors include two sons, James Wright and his wife, Jean, of Mason City; and Grant D. Wright and his wife, Nancy, of Springfield, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lyle and Waldo.

Evelyn G. Johnson

HAMPTON _ Evelyn G. Johnson, 88, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at Belmond Community Hospital, Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Evelyn was born May 11, 1909, in Webster County.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Shear of Hampton, Marilyn Scott of Springfield, Mo., and Patti Berkland of Wausau, Wis.; one son, Jerry Johnson of Emmetsburg; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

OSAGE _ Olive Helen Olson, 81, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at the Faith Home.

She was born March 6, 1916, near Nashua in Floyd County.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred, of Osage; two daughters, Sharon Bighley of Lenexa, Kan., and Patricia Schulz of Taft, Calif.; one sister, Ida Belle Smith of Davenport; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jean V. Miller

HAINES CITY, Fla. _ Jean V. Miller, 81, formerly of Mason City, died Tuesday (July 8, 1997) at Winter Haven Hospital in Haines City, Fla.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Jean was born June 23, 1916, in Canby, Minn. She later moved to Mason City and then in 1980 she moved to Haines City, Fla.

Jean was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Haines City, and a member of Band Olers.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Miller of Haines City, Fla.; one son, Jim Hutzell of Dubuque; three daughters, Pat Hutzell of Otis, Ore., Judy Manusos of Midland, Texas, and Nancy Gilbert of Miami, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary Jane Wellner

OSAGE _ Mary Jane Wellner, 98, formerly of Osage, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at Greenview Health Care Center, Bagley, Minn., of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 2, 1898, near Wheelerwood in Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of George C. and Sarah E. (Dunn) Kisner. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Wheelerwood where she taught Sunday school and was Sunday school organist. She graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1915 and attended Iowa State University for two years.

On March 2, 1920, she was united in marriage to Henry L. Wellner in Franklin County. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Immanuel Evangelical Church in rural Hampton, where Henry was a member. She taught Sunday School there. Mary Jane was an active member of the American Auxiliary and the Girls 4-H Club in Franklin County.

In 1959 they moved to Osage from their farm near Fertile. Henry died in 1978. She was Curator at the Mitchell County Historical Society Museum for seven years. She was a member of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, member of Daughters of the American Revolution, and Mitchell County Historical Society. She was the last surviving member of her paternal family.

Survivors include five grandchildren, Arley Hockenson of Osage, Jayne Hockenson of Osage, Jack Hockenson and wife, Lynette, of Solway, Minn., Galen Hockenson and wife, Kathy, of Bemidji, Minn., and Gary Hockenson and wife, Cindy, of Bemidji, Minn.; 17 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry, in 1978; daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Phyllis) Hockenson, in 1987; four sisters; and four brothers.

Catherine Theresa Bauer

BANCROFT _ Catherine Theresa Bauer, 99, died Saturday (July 12, 1997) at the Heritage Nursing Home, Bancroft.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Church Cemetery.

Catherine Theresa Matheis Bauer was born Feb. 15, 1898, at Bancroft.

Survivors include five sons, Edward, Joe and Matt of Bancroft, Frank of Austin, Texas, and John of Spirit Lake, Idaho; one daughter, Mary Albright of Minneapolis; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Reutzel of Fairmont, Minn., and Rosella Curley of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two great-grandchildren.

George was born Sept. 11, 1912, in Ventura.

Eldon J. Evans

NORTHWOOD _ Eldon J. Evans, 64, died Friday (July 11, 1997) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes officiating. There will be a private burial at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Eldon was born July 14, 1932, in Worth County, the son of John Edward and G. Emelia (Nestvedt) Evans. He attended first grade in Fertile and the rest of his eight grades in Brookfield Township, rural school. He graduated from Kensett High School in 1950.

Eldon was united in marriage to Norma Vaage on July 27, 1952, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett by the Rev. Thor Sigmond.

Eldon will be remembered as loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Northwood; two sons, John Eldon Evans and his wife, Janet, of Minneapolis, Minn. and Paul Roger Evans and his wife, Dawn, of Forest City; one grandson, Ian McCarthy Evans; one brother, Lewaine Evans and his wife, Margie, of Mason City; two aunts, Esther and husband, Lloyd Richardson, of Leroy, Minn., and Alice Nestvedt of Albert Lea, Minn.; and one uncle, Henry Nestvedt and his wife, Bernice, of Aldon, Minn.

ALGONA _ Kenneth Riley, 64, of Algona, died Sunday (July 13, 1997) at the Kossuth County Care Facility.

GRAFTON _ Arnold Frank Sheka, 80, of rural Grafton, died Sunday (July 13, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Hospital, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Plymouth, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers and the Rev. Richard Pippert officiating. Burial will be in Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth.

Arnold Frank Sheka was born on Sept. 23, 1916, in Union Township, near Grafton, the son of Edward E. And Josephine (Chladek) Sheka.

He attended and received his education in the rural schools in Union Township and spent his entire lifetime farming on the family farm near Grafton.

He enjoyed playing cards, visiting with his friends and farming.

He was a member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church and director for the Bohemian Cemetery Association.

Survivors include one sister, Clarice Ardery of Anaheim, Calif.; one niece, Julie Ann of Anaheim, Calif.; one grand-niece, Tracy of Anaheim, Calif.; as well as numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris and Beatrice; and three brothers, Elmer, Harold and Kenneth.
