CLEAR LAKE _ Howard Cash, 99, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Laurald D. "Lars" Halverson

McINTIRE _ Laurald D. "Lars" Halverson, 59, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy, Minn., with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery in rural LeRoy.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and prior to services at the funeral home.

Laurald D. "Lars" Halverson was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Dundee, Ill.

Survivors include one brother, Glen Halverson, of Marengo, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Meta Koenigsberg

LATIMER _ Meta Koenigsberg, 89, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ with the Rev. Richard Zauloff officiating. Burial will be in the Marion Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Willim Funeral Home.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Palmer of Hampton; two granddaughters and one brother, Wilbur Plagge of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Wilbert L. Meyer

HAMPTON _ Wilbert L. Meyer, 81, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wayne Dobratz officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Wilbert L. Meyer was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Reeve Township in Franklin County.

Survivors include his wife, Ione Meyer, of Hampton; two sons, LeRoy Meyer of Rogers, Ark., and Duane Meyer of Newton; one brother, Rudolph Meyer of Sheffield; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Willie Clarence Turner

MASON CITY _ Willie Clarence Turner, 97, of 638 S. Adams Ave., died Wednesday (July 2, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave., with the Rev. Walter Jones officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Visitation will continue Tuesday morning until time of services.

THORNTON _ Carl A. Jacobsen, 71, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Gochenauer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home.

Carl A. Jacobsen was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Thornton.

Survivors include two sisters, Florine Peters of Thornton, and Eleanor Lauritzen of Sheffield; and three brothers, Hans Jacobsen of Thornton, Alvin Jacobsen of Torrance, Calif., and Irveing Jacobsen of Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Larry Dean "Sam" Collins Sr.

MASON CITY _ Larry Dean "Sam" Collins Sr., 66, of 16135 245th St. S.E., died Wednesday (July 2, 1997) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., and will continue Monday until time of services at the funeral home.

Larry Dean "Sam" Collins Sr. was born Nov. 23, 1930, the son of Robert and Emma (Pana Robertson) Kina in Makawao Maui, Hawaii. After graduating from Makawao Maui High School, he joined the U.S. Army where he served his country for more than 15 years. During that time span, he was honored with numerous medals and served in the Korean War. After his discharge from the service, he made his home in Iowa. On Dec. 19, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Billajean May "Billie" Lee in Des Moines. The couple then moved to Mason City. Sam began umpiring also in 1958, which he enjoyed doing for more than 28 years. In 1995, Sam was inducted into the Mason City Softball Hall of Fame. Sam was multitalented. He enjoyed playing many different instruments, singing, dancing and entertaining friends and family. In his leisure time, Larry liked to watch sporting events, and listen to Hawaiian and country music, but his most precious time was spent with his grandchildren.

Sam was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, an officer in the Eagles Lodge No. 3416, and a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1328.

Larry is survived by his wife, Billajean; four sons, Larry D. and his wife, Christine Collins Jr., Terry L. Austin and Louis Allan Collins, all of Mason City, and Sammy Romos of Monterey, Calif.; three daughters, Teresa M. Collins of Mason City, Karen Fisher and Marie Camara, both of California; two sisters, Mildred, and her husband, Frank Silva, and Gladys Peralta, both of Maui, Hawaii; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Emma Kina; one son, William J. "Jimmy" Collins; one brother, Harry Kina; and twin grandchildren, Amilia and Sabrina Collins.

Clement G. Lorence

MITCHELL _ Clement G. Lorence, 86, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at his home.

There will be private family services with inurnment in Oak Grove Cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Osage is in charge of arrangements.

Clement G. Lorence was born Nov. 18, 1910, in Nova Ves, Czechoslovakia, the son of Anton and Anna (Mach) Lorence.

Survivors include one sister, Bessie Gunther of McLouth, Kan.; and two brothers, Stanley Lorence of Portsmouth, R.I., and Carl Lorence of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Helen Cary Peterson

NORTHWOOD _ Helen Cary Peterson, 98, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

NORTHWOOD _ Bernice Prestegaard, 66, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at her home.

Florence Mae Perkins

HAMPTON _ Florence Mae Perkins, 71, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating. Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in Iowa Falls.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Florence was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Hampton.

Survivors include one son, John Perkins of Hampton; one daughter, Janice Card of Alexander; two sisters, Mildred Erichsen of Mason City and Delores Miller of Plymouth; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one son, one sister, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Helen Cary Peterson

NORTHWOOD _ Helen Cary Peterson, 98, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

Helen Cary Peterson was born Aug. 13, 1989, in Winnebago County, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Christenson) Nelson. She attended Forest City schools and graduated from Waldorf College.

She taught at a county school for several years.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Peterson on March 4, 1925, at Forest City. The couple moved to a farm west of Kensett in 1942. They had one son, Dudley, and raised a foster child, James Keough, for 10 years.

Helen was an active member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church, participating in the Ladies Aid and women_s circles. She enjoyed doing handiwork and gardening.

She has resided at the Lutheran Retirement Home since September 1989.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marlene Peterson of Kensett; four granddaughters, Lori Peterson and her husband, Jeff, of Plymouth, Minn., Brenda Neville and her husband, Joe, of Cambridge, Ann Peterson of Wilmington, N.C., and Tracy Peterson-Kettwick and her husband, Wayne, of Cedar Falls; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Christopher Neville; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Louis; her husband, Alfred; and one son, Dudley.

Dorothy M. Blome

LAKOTA _ Dorothy M. Blome, 72, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at St. Luke_s Lutheran Home, Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakota.

WESTPORT, Conn. _ Robert L. Jenison, 65, formerly of Belmond and Clear Lake, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at his home in Westport, Conn.

Albert C. Rippentrop

LAKOTA _ Albert C. Rippentrop, 84, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Willis Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, and one hour before service at the church in Lakota on Tuesday.

Albert C. Rippentrop was born May 23, 1913, at Lakota.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Lakota; one son, Nyle, of Rock Falls; one daughter, Caralee Wright, of Clinton; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two granddaughters, four brothers and three sisters.

SHEFFIELD _ Phyllis Sprung, 80, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Phyllis was born March 16, 1917, in Lee Township.

John A. "Jack" Gansen

MARBLE ROCK _ John A. "Jack" Gansen, 77, of 513 College St., died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of acute leukemia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock with graveside military honors conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Reid_s Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock where there will be a public scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.

John A. Gansen was born May 30, 1920, in rural Elma, Howard County, a son of William J. and Elizabeth (Biwer) Gansen.

He received his education at the Elma public schools. On July 8, 1942, he was inducted into the United States Army where he served with the 198th Field Artillery Battalion in the southern Philippines. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 5, 1945.

On Oct. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Thelma L. Harris in Austin, Minn. They made their home in Charles City until the following year when they moved to Marble Rock. Jack was employed by the Jacob Decker Packing Plant in Mason City for 24 years until the plant closed. He then worked for the city of Marble Rock and later for Bill Theiman Plumbing and Heating in Marble Rock.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1011 and was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 3914, both in Charles City. He was a member of the Marble Rock Volunteer Fire Department for many years. His interests included woodworking, fishing, hunting and drinking coffee with the boys at the local coffee shop. He also enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights.

Living family members include his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Thelma, of Marble Rock; two sons and their spouses, Larry "Joe" and June Gansen of Hampton and Tony and Dian Gansen of Round Rock, Texas; two grandchildren, Joe E. Gansen of Egan, Minn., and Jackie and her husband ,Bob Vogelgesang, of Mason City; two sisters, Ann Liebel of Venice, Calif., and Gertrude and her husband Jim Womack of Riceville; two brothers and their spouses, Bill and Loretta Gansen of Lime Springs and Ken and Mary Gansen of Elma; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Gansen of Riceville and Lucille Gansen of Elma.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Phillip, Matt and Lawrence.

Bonnie A. Gelner

MASON CITY _ Bonnie A. Gelner, 59, of 1206 West State St., died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at home.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph_s Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. John Kremer officiating. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to the Bonnie A. Gelner Memorial Fund. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., was in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie A. Gelner was born on her parents_ farm near Forest City on Nov. 8, 1937, the daughter of Emil and Catherine (Roach) Gelner. Bonnie attended country school near Forest City. She attended the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Dubuque until November 1954, then returned to Mason City and graduated from Newman High School in 1955. She attended and graduated as valedictorian of her class from Mercy Hospital Nurses Training as a Registered Nurse in 1959. Bonnie joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a second lieutenant in the Reserve Nurse Corp. from 1961-1962. While in the Air Force she obtained her solo pilot license.

Bonnie was married to Bill Sauers in Mason City and together they had three children. Bonnie was a physician office nurse to an internal medicine physician in Fairfield, Conn., for 18 years. In 1981, Bonnie returned to Mason City as a house supervisor nurse for the 3-11 shift for three years and then as an emergency room nurse for 10 years at Mercy Hospital. Bonnie enjoyed cooking, dancing, traveling worldwide, her friends and helping those in need.

She was a member of St. Joseph_s Catholic Church and the Mercy Hospital Nurse Alumni Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Regina Lee Sauers of Mason City and Katy M. Maker and husband, Matt, of Decorah; one son, Eric D. Sauers and wife, Susan, of Mason City; nine grandchildren, Leah Watts, Camille and Triston Marker and Damian, Aramis, Gabriel, Rhiannon, Paisley and Salem Sauers; four sister, Madonna Kirshbaum and husband, Gene, of Hanlontown, Rosemary Hopkins of Virginia Beach, Va., Kathleen Sinclair of Mason City and Pat Rodriguez and husband, Art, of Mason City; one brother, Wayne Gelner of Mason City; and a close friend, Bev Brahm of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, William F. Sauers.

NORTHWOOD _ Bernice Prestegaard, 66, of 902 First Ave. N., died Friday (July 4, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter. Burial will be in the Deer Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Survivors include her husband, Juel Prestegaard, of Northwood; nine children, Marcia Prestegaard of Northwood, Bonnie Kellogg of Stillwater, Minn., Bruce Prestegaard of Forest Lake, Minn., Sheryl Prestegaard of Eagen, Minn., Jeffrey Prestegaard of Randolf, Minn., Sandra Kunz of North Branch, Minn., Becky Edson of Forest Lake, Minn., Richard Prestegaard of North St. Paul, Minn., and Gary Prestegaard of St. Paul, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Loreene Schrag of Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Charlene Kay Moore

OWATONNA, Minn. _ Charlene Kay Moore, 56, of 609 14th St. S.E., died Friday (July 4, 1997) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn., of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Caskey officiating. Burial will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Michaelson_s Funeral Home, with an Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m., and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or donor_s choice.

Charlene was born May 20, 1941, in Colwell, Iowa, daughter of Lawrence and Edna (Trask) Lemons. She graduated from Colwell High School in 1959. She married Richard Moore on July 15, 1962, in Charles City, Iowa, where they both worked for Oliver Farm Equipment.

They moved to Owatonna in 1970. She was administrative secretary for St. John Lutheran Church for 25 years. Charlene was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past matron and 25-year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Lee Moore; daughter, Gail, and husband, Michael Bendorf, of Owatonna; son, Michael, and wife, Cheryl Moore, of Little Falls, Minn.; mother, Edna Lemons, of Granton, Wis.; three sisters, Barbara and husband, Thomas Kennison, of Orchard, Iowa, Bonnie and husband, Richard Shaw, of Neillsville, Wis., and Lois and husband, David Schreindl, of Marshfield, Wis.; one brother, Larry, and wife, Ann Lemons, of Saukville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Willie was born July 23, 1899, the son of Allen Clarence and Nancy (Rivers) Turner, in St. Joe, La. He attended the St. Joe School system.

On Sept. 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maybelle Farley in Mason City.

Willie had been a resident of Mason City for more than 68 years. During that time he was known as the "neighborhood taxi." He was a driver for Jefferson Bus Lines for 25 years and also worked at the YMCA.

He was an active member of St. John_s Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon. He was a member of the St. John_s Masonic Lodge No. 35 F and AM (P-H-A) of Waterloo. Willie spent most of his time tinkering on different projects.

Mr. Turner is survived by one son, Clarence Allen Turner, of Ames; three daughters, Dr. Deborah Ann Turner of Mason City, Darlene Elaine and her husband, Andre Hill, of Davenport, and Delores and her husband, Sterling Macer, of Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Deniece Dunn, LeRoy Dunn III, Deanne Hodges, Sterling Robert Macer Jr., Dawn Macer, Ronnie Dunn Sharp, Danielle AnnMarie Hill and Daniyel Golden Turner; and seven great-grandchildren.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maybelle, on Aug. 9, 1995; one infant son, Lavern Richard Turner; and two sons, Dr. LeRoy Dunn Jr. and Staff Sgt. Raymond Dunn.

Meta S. Koenigsberg

HAMPTON _ Meta S. Plagge Koenigsberg, 89, died Friday morning (July 4, 1997) at the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer, with the Rev. Richard Zulauf officiating. Burial will be at Marion Center Cemetery.

Visitation will be at William Funeral Home in Latimer today from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Meta S. Plagge was born on a farm northeast of Latimer on March 11, 1908. Her parents were Frederich and Lena Merz Plagge. She grew to womanhood and received her education in Marion Township, Franklin County.

On Feb. 27, 1934, Meta and Henry F. Koenigsberg were united in marriage at Marion Center Church. They farmed in that area. Henry died in 1959 and Meta continued to live on the farm until moving to Latimer in 1973. Eight years age she returned to the farm to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law. She entered the Franklin General Hospital Nursing Facility on April 1, 1993.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Marilynn Palmer, and husband, Ronald, of Hampton; granddaughter, Dawn LaRue, and great-granddaughter, KayLee, both of Hampton; and one brother, Wilbert Plagge of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Donald; husband; four brothers, Louis, Fred, Walter and Clarence; and three sister, Emma Fahrmann, Esther Sailer and Ella Armfield.

Meta was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the L&L Club and CAL Over 60_s and enjoyed playing cards, crocheting and traveling.

Nora Emma Strain

CLEAR LAKE _ Nora Emma Strain, 92, of 916 Fourth Ave. S., died Friday (July 4, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice In-patient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth.

Memorials may be made to the Clear Lake United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Nora was born Dec. 13, 1904, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Jacob Abraham and Josephine (Zirbel) Halsor. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1923 and went on to complete a business course in preparation for employment as a bookkeeper for the Currie-Van Ness Co., for two years.

On Jan. 25, 1925, she was united in marriage to Hugh Patton Strain at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple moved to a farm in Union Township, rural Clear Lake, in 1925. After many years on the farm, they moved into Clear Lake in 1953. Nora managed family farms throughout the years with her husband and continued even after his death in February, 1983. She also sold DeKalb Seed Corn for 15 years.

Nora was a talented ceramic artist who won many blue ribbons. She created ceramics which are now owned in Brazil, Germany, Austria and South Africa. Nora and Hugh wintered in California for 14 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, where she was active in the church circles, as well as the Building Committee. Along with Lucille Buchanan, she helped to organize the Union Dozen Club and remained a leader of the club for 35 years.

Nora is survived by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers.

OWATONNA, Minn. _ Charlene Kay Moore, 56, of 609 - 14th St. SE, died Friday (July 4, 1997) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Caskey officiating. Burial will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Michaelson_s Funeral home with a Eastern Star Service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour before services today at the church.

Charlene was born May 20, 1941, in Colwell, Iowa, daughter of Lawrence and Edna (Trask) Lemons. She graduated from Colwell High School in 1959. She married Richard Moore on July 15, 1962, in Charles City, Iowa, where they both worked for Oliver Farm Equipment. They moved to Owatonna in 1970. She was administrative secretary for St. John Lutheran Church for 25 years. Charlene was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a past matron and 25 year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Lee Moore; daughter, Gail and husband Michael Bendorf of Owatonna; son, Michael and wife Cheryl Moore of Little Falls; mother, Edna Lemons of Granton, Wis.; mother-in-law, Mildred Moore of Mason City, Iowa; one brother-in-law and wife, William and Marcene Moore of Mason City, Iowa; three sisters, Barbara and husband Thomas Kennison of Orchard, Iowa; Bonnie and husband Richard Shaw of Neillsville, Wis., and Lois and husband David Schreindl of Marshfield, Wis.; one brother, Larry and wife Ann Lemons of Saukville, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY _ Willie Clarence Turner, 97, of 638 S. Adams Ave., died Wednesday (July 2, 1997) at his home.

Willie was born July 23, 1899, the son of Allen Clarence and Nancy (Rivers) Turner in St. Joe, La. He attended the St. Joe School system. On Sept. 30, 1947, Willie was united in marriage to Maybelle Farley in Mason City. Willie has been a resident in Mason City for over 68 years, during that time he was known as the neighborhood taxi. He was a maintenance man for Jefferson Bus Lines for 25 years, a driver for Kembles and the MacNiders and also worked at the YMCA. Willie was an active member of the St. John_s Baptist Church including being a deacon. He was a member of the St. John_s Masonic Lodge #35 F and AM (P-H-A) of Waterloo. Willie spent most of his time tinkering on different projects.

Phyllis Sprung

SHEFFIELD _ Phyllis Sprung 80, of Sheffield, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Hollingworth officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Phyllis Sprung was born on March 16, 1917, in Lee Township near Iowa Falls, the daughter of Frank C. And Gertie B. (Smith) Smith.

She attended Country school in Lee Township graduating from the eighth grade. She moved with her family to Dougherty in 1935 and in 1945 they moved to Mason City where she went to work for the Montgomery Ward Store.

She was united in marriage to L.G. "Bud" Sprung in the Westfork Evangelical Church on June 8, 1949.

They made their home farming southeast of Sheffield.

In 1977 they moved into a new home they built north of the family farm.

Phyllis enjoyed tatting, quilting, puzzles, reading books, poetry and gardening.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sheffield where she served as church secretary for over 30 years.

She is survived by three sons, Don and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Sheffield; Ted and his wife, Lori of Swaledale, and Charles and his wife, Sheri of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Justin, James, Jess, Jami, Becky, Joey, Ethan and Evan; one sister, Genevieve Deshler of Sheffield; two brothers, Boyd and Roy, both of Mason City; and two sisters-in-law, Elsie Gerdes and Ednabelle Smith, both of Sheffield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.

Stephen Claire Mueller

RIVER FALLS, Wis. _ Stephen Claire Mueller, 51, of River Falls, died July 1, 1997, of cancer, at the River Falls Area Hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Claire E. Mueller and Elvira M. Mueller.

He attended school and graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa, High School in 1964. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, for a year before entering and graduating from the University of Iowa in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

After graduation from college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Officer_s Candidate School at Fort Benning, Ga. Upon graduating from OCS, he went to Korea for 13 months.

He was honorably discharged from military active duty in May of 1971. He then worked in Minneapolis for several years before moving to River Falls.

On Dec. 29, 1979, Steve married Marlys Maier of River Falls. Steve and Marlys are the parents of two children, Michael and Laura.

Steve_s career as a salesman included working for Donaldson_s Department Store, Chrysler Corporation and the Satterlee Company-School Division. He was employed by Goodheart-Willcox Publishers at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claire; his stepfather, Julius Kittleson; aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his wife, Marlys; children, Michael and Laura; mother, Elvira (Mueller) Kittleson; brother, William; sisters, Gretta (Jim) Nickerson, Marie (Leonard) Teggatz; an uncle, Elmer Lutz; an aunt, Esther Groth; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held July 2 at Cashman Mortuary in River Falls.

The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. July 3 at the Luther Memorial Church, River Falls, with Pastor Herb Hoefer officiating.

Pallbearers were: Roman Dusek, Jim Hollatz, Dick Hollatz, Tom Hollatz, Bob Krey, Duane O_Neil, Larry Peterson and Gary Thibodeau.

Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls.

Howard Walter Cash

CLEAR LAKE _ Howard Walter Cash, 99, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with an I.O.O.F. service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to the Howard Walter Cash Memorial Fund.

Howard was born Sept. 24, 1897, in Maple Lake, Ill., the son of Walter and Elsie (Beacham) Cash. At the age of 4, he moved with his family to a farm north of Clear Lake.

On July 24, 1918, he was united in marriage with Ruth Yohn in Clear Lake. The couple continued to live on Howard_s family farm until moving into Clear Lake in 1959.

Howard loved to hunt pheasants and ducks, as well as go fishing.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau and served on the ASC Board for more than 15 years. He also was a member of the Clear Lake Farmer_s Co-op and Ventura Co-op, serving on both boards of directors.

He is survived by a son, Raymond "Pete" Cash and his wife, Betty, of Clear Lake; four daughters, Winifred Lane and her husband, Al, of Anaheim, Calif.; Gayle Martin of Tucson, Ariz.; Peggy Gildea of Tempe, Ariz., and Billi Molencamp and her husband, Roy, of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Iola Cash of Ventura; and 20 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on Sept. 11, 1980; a son, Robert Cash, on April 4, 1993; brothers, Leonard and Harry Cash; and a great-grandson, Bryon Bless.

Edris was born on Dec. 2, 1905, in Rockwell, the daughter of Paul S. And Maude (Campbell) Breeding.

She graduated from Rockwell High School in 1923, and then graduated from Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, where she majored in music and art. She taught primary and intermediate grades in rural schools in Cerro Gordo County and also taught private music lessons. She then taught for 15 years in Kensett.

She moved to Los Angeles, Calif. , where she received her Dental Nursing Degree from the L.A. Dental Nursing College and began working in that field.

She was united in marriage to James Harris Hobson from Dallas, Texas, on Nov. 24, 1946, in Los Angeles.

Following their marriage, they began their life together in Mountain Home, Ark., where they owned and operated a broiler chicken ranch.

She also taught nine years in the Mountain Home School system as the principal of the Oakland Wing School. She and her husband were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Mountain Home and after taking her training in Christian Education at Memphis State, she was the head of the Church Sunday School Program and taught there for a total of 27 years of devotion to her teaching profession.

She was also the organist for the mid-week prayer services. She was a member of the church choir for 19 years and active in the Women of the Church.

After retiring from the teaching field, she graduated from Geriatrics Nurses training at the Mountain Home General Hospital and worked for the next 10 years at the hospital.

Following her husband_s death in November of 1971, she moved back to Rockwell in 1973, where she cared for her brother, Evan, until his death in 1995.

At that time, she retired from her many years of service to humanity and spent the remainder of her years enjoying her gardens of vegetables and flowers, and the many aspects of nature. She continued to reach out in Christian love and friendship to all those around her.

Edris is survived by two nieces, Gloria Kohler and Linda Walters, both of Mission Via, Calif., and all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by their parents; her husband, James; one sister, Cleo Woodward, and two brothers, Stanley and Evan Breeding.

Fannie M. Paine

EVANSDALE _ Fannie M. Paine, 84, of Evansdale, formerly of Nora Springs, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at her home of natural causes.

Survivors include three sons, Bruce Paine of Waterloo, Billie D. Paine of Evansdale, and Barrie D. Paine of Kremmling, Colo.; a daughter, Bettie D. Anton of Winthrop; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Virgil Hoag of St. Paul, Minn., and Russell Hoag of Bakersfield, Calif.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons in 1979; a daughter, Bonnie in 1983; a great-granddaughter in 1980; a son, Bobbie in 1985; one sister; and two brothers.

Blanche A. Miltenberger

MASON CITY _ Blanche A. Miltenberger, 83, of 411 First St. N.E., died Wednesday, (July 2, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Blanche A. Miltenberger Memorial Fund with the family directing the memorials to the Department of Natural Resources.

Blanche was born Aug. 14, 1913, in Sheffield, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Stoltenberg) Crapser.

Blanche graduated from Sheffield High School.

Blanche enjoyed camping, fishing and feeding wildlife.

Survivors include a son, William Miltenberger Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Birnamwood, Wis.; four grandchildren, Patricia Schultz of Waukesha, Wis.; Janet Weijola of Houghton, Mich.; Daniel Miltenberger of Harrison Township, Mich., and Kathy Mealy of Glen Burnie, Md.; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen Crapser of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers.

Patsy J. Lehmann

MASON CITY _ Patsy J. Lehmann, 70, of 705 Sixth Place S.E., died Monday (July 7, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Anderson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Patsy was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Mason City, the daughter of Glenn and Shirley (Lincoln) Hathaway.

She graduated from Mason City High School, enlisted in the Cadet Nursing Corps in San Antonio, Texas, then returned to Mason City in 1946 to work for Dr. Lannon.

Patsy married Otto "Bake" Lehmann on Sept. 3, 1949, in Nevada, Iowa.

Patsy was a longtime Mason City resident. She volunteered at Crisis Intervention and enjoyed music and traveling.

She is survived by two sons, Jeff Lehmann and his wife, Nancy, of Shoreview, Minn., and Jim Lehmann and his wife, Marcelle, of Roseville, Minn.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Dana Anderson and her fiancee, Gary Jansen of Mason City; one brother, Roger Hathaway and his wife, Denese, of Neshkora, Wis.; a special friend, Dolly Toomey, Long Beach, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otto, in 1994; a stepbrother, Clifford Shroyer; and an uncle, Raymond Willson.

Robert L. Jenison

WESTPORT, Conn. _ Robert L. Jenison, a devoted husband, father, civic leader and businessman, died on Sunday, (July 6, 1997) at his home in Westport. He was 65.

The cause of death was Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig_s disease), said his wife, Nancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, Iowa, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond, Iowa, with military rites under the direction of the Belmond Honor Guard.

Friends and relatives are invited to lunch at the church following graveside services.

Mr. Jenison, the son of Earl and Hazel Sanberg Jenison, was born April 5, 1932, in Pleasant Township, rural Belmond, Iowa.

He graduated from Belmond High School in 1950, and married Nancy Johnson in 1951.

After attending Iowa State College, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served with Patrol Squadron Sixteen (VP-16) during the Korean conflict.

He joined International Business Machine (IBM) Corporation in 1956 and worked in various management capacities with the organization in Charles City and Cedar Falls, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minn.; Fargo, N.D.; and Madison, Wis.

While in Wisconsin, Mr. Jenison was active as a volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Horeb Fire Department and established the city_s first Emergency Medical Service.

He was active in the Lutheran Church and served as an officer of the church in Mt. Horeb.

In 1978, he and his wife moved to Belmond, Iowa, where he became part owner of Helland & Long Implement Company. Later he worked as an officer of Keifer Built, Inc. and as a District Representative for Aid Association for Lutherans. An avid Clear Lake sailor, he also served as an officer of Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, Iowa, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Rick Jenison, Phd. of Madison, Wis.; his daughter, Dr. Jane Jenison Olson, M.D. of Westport, Conn.; three grandchildren; two brothers, George and Leland, of Belmond, Iowa; and two sisters, Elna Day of Mason City, Iowa, and Ardeth Laake of Belmond, Iowa.

Betty Davidson

SPIRIT LAKE _ Betty Davidson, 78, of Hudson, Wis., formerly of Swea City and Spirit Lake, died Monday (July 7, 1997) at the Christian Community Home, Hudson, Wis..

Graveside services will be held at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Spirit Lake, with a flag presentation by the Fisher American Legion Post #14 of Swea City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home, Swea City.

Elizabeth C. Campbell, the daughter of Thomas J. and Ethel (Pfouts) Campbell, the daughter of Thomas J. And Ethel (Pfouts) Campbell, was born Nov. 19, 1918, at Newtown Square, Pa., and departed this life on Monday, July 7, 1997, at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, Wis., at the age of 78 years, seven months and 18 days.

She received her education in the Newtown Square High School in 1936. She then graduated from Drexell Institute of Technology in Philadelphia, Pa., in 1938.

She was employed by the Historical Society in Philadelphia.

In 1943, she entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the San Francisco, Calif., area until her discharge in 1945.

On June 16, 1944, she was united in marriage to Leland W. Davidson at San Francisco, Calif. The couple lived in several Iowa communities before moving to Swea City in 1961. Mr. Davidson was president of the Swea City State Bank.

The couple retired in 1982 and moved to Spirit Lake. Mr. Davidson died Feb. 8, 1997.

Betty was a member of the Christian Science Church. She was very active in the North Iowa Girl Scout Council, served as president of the Swea City School Board, a member of the Swea City Library Board and active in numerous community activities. Betty was a member of the Fisher American Legion Post #14 in Swea City.

She is survived by daughter, Judy Larsen and her husband, James of Swea City; son, Thomas Davidson and his wife, Carol, West Des Moines; daughter, Cindy Redmon and her husband, Jeff, of Roberts, Wis.; grandson, Nathan Larsen; granddaughter, Tara Larsen; grandson, Nicholas Larsen; granddaughter, Cindi Davidson; grandson, Leland Davidson; granddaughter, Anne Redmon; grandson, Tom Redmon; granddaughter, Katherine Redmon; sister-in-law, Ruth Ferguson and her husband, John, Spirit Lake; nephew, Jeff Ferguson and his wife, Barb, of Bozeman, Mont.; nephew, Steve Ferguson and his wife, Lisa, Canby, Minn.; niece, Jody Mohr and her husband, Carl, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and niece, Patty Rossiter of Malvern, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Jennie J. Harms was born Oct. 10, 1906, in Meservey.

CHARLES CITY _ Ella Hicok, 77, of 1744 Oak Drive, died Monday (July 7, 1997) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main and Gilbert Streets, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag and the Rev. Karen Rask Behling officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, south of Charles City.

Ella Lena Anna Hicok was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Lone Rock.

Survivors include her husband, Dale of Charles City; two daughters, Judy Milhan of Chapin, S.C., and Jane Baldwin of Broken Arrow, Okla; two brothers, Herman Zimmerman of Charles City, and Emil Zimmerman of Lansing; four sisters, Louise Anderson, Emma Mohring and Esther Meine, all of Charles City, and MaryAnn Steenhard of Waverly; two grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Marie Iverson was born Jan. 16, 1918, on a farm near Crystal Lake.

Stanley Lewis Ballantyne

CLEAR LAKE _ Stanley Lewis Ballantyne, 68, of 1104 Ninth Ave. N., died Tuesday (July 8, 1997) at the Muse- Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

Stanley was born Feb. 11, 1929, on a farm in rural Ventura, the son of George and Dora (Ebaugh) Ballantyne.

At a young age, he moved with his parents to Argus, Ind. Following high school, he served in the United States Marine Corps.

After the service, he moved to Clear Lake and was employed by the Brick and Tile, Mason City.

On April 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to June Marker in Mason City.

He was employed by various dairies as a route driver, then was supervisor for Anderson-Erickson Dairy, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and Teamsters.

Stanley will be sadly missed by his wife, June, of Clear Lake; four daughters, Roz Geyer and her husband, Gary, of Des Moines; Julie Secory and her husband, Joel, of Clear Lake; Jody Avery and her special friend, Patrick Noonan, of Omaha, Neb., and Patty VanScoi and her husband, Rich, of Urbandale; three brothers, Bill Ballantyne and his wife, Irene, of Clear Lake; Dick Ballantyne and his wife, Ethel, of Mason City, and Gary Ballantyne and his wife, Susie, of Chillicothe, Mo.; three sisters, Ruth Overson and her husband, Virgil, of Fertile, Beverly Tindall and her husband, Gene, of Chicago, Ill., and Sharon Barnes of Chillicothe, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Heather, Holly, Matt, Joey, Ted, Tim, Emily, Meredith, Tyler, Elizabeth, Morgan, Marcus and Jordan; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darrell.

Donald Allen Burt

ROWAN _ Donald Allen Burt, 69, of Rowan, died Sunday (July 6, 1997) at Red Lake Memorial Hospital, Ontario.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Rowan, with Pastor JoAn Lent Skyrme officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Donald Burt Memorial Fund.

Donald Allen Burt was born at the family farm near Rowan, on May 31, 1928, the son of James L. Burt and Laura (McCallum) Burt.

Don attended Rowan school through the 10th grade and graduated from Clarion High School in 1945. He attended Drake University for one year, then entered the Army in September of 1946.

Don was the Drum Major of an army band stationed at Garmisck, Germany, during his entire service. He was discharged in March of 1948 and returned to Rowan, and started farming with his father.

On Feb. 20, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Jean McGrath of Clarion.

They continued farming in partnership with his brother, Jack and wife, Bea, for many years and retired in 1980 due to a serious heart condition.

Don was a longtime member of the Rowan Lions Club, member of the United Church of Rowan and a member of the Canadian American Golf Group who played together since 1984 in Mesa, Ariz.

Don and Jean were at their cottage in Ontario, when he became ill. Don died on Sunday afternoon at the Red Lake Memorial Hospital.

Don is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Barbara Dorenkamp of Belmond; sons, Jeff Burt of Belmond; Steven Burt of Rowan; and Randy Burt of Rowan. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Nancy Anders, Kara and Mark Dorenkamp; Eric, Erin and Kylce Burt; Randi Ann, Barry and Kimberly Burt; Jocelyn and Derek Burt; and brothers, John R. Burt of Rowan and Paul Dean Burt of Broomfield, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
