Marguerite A. Maxwell

MASON CITY _ Marguerite A. Maxwell, 66, of 123 13th St. N.E., died Saturday (June 28, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with Father Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation was held after 2 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., with a parish wake service at 7 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Marguerite Maxwell Memorial Fund.

Marguerite was born on July 18, 1930, in Rockwell, the daughter of Bernard J. and Mary Catherine (McCarthy) Fitzgerald.

She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Church School. She moved to Mason City in 1943.

For 28 years she worked on the clerical staff at SIEG Auto Parts.

Marguerite was united in marriage to William W. Maxwell on Aug. 4, 1990, at his home in Mason City.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose.

Marguerite enjoyed playing golf with her husband and traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for the winters.

Marguerite will be sadly missed by her husband, Bill, of Mason City; her children, who include one daughter, Pamela and her husband, Robert Murray, of Tucson, Ariz., and two sons, Gregory Tenney of Tucson, Ariz., and Steven and his wife, Cynthia Tenney, Blaine, Minn.; three sisters, Genevieve and her husband, Harold Witt of Nora Springs, Alice and her husband, Gary Ebeling, of Humboldt, and Mary Jane and her husband, Kenneth Moss, of Dyersville; six grandchildren, Robert, Jonathon, Benjamin and Vanessa Tenney, and Lucas and Liam Murray; her stepchildren, Muriel and her husband, Dennis Kofoot, of Mason City, and William and his wife, Betty Maxwell II, of Des Moines; four stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bernard Fitzgerald.

Inez Mary Roy

RUDD _ Inez Mary Roy6, 85, formerly of 616 Depot St., died Saturday (June 28, 1997) at the Salsbury Baptist Home, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rudd United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Inez Mary Roy was born Oct. 11, 1911, at Rudd, the daughter of G. W. and Amelia (Radloff) Millard. She grew up in Rudd and attended schools there.

She worked at the cafe in Rudd and also drove a school bus.

She loved to bake, especially wedding and birthday cakes. She also loved animals. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and weaving rugs.

Inez was a member of the Rudd United Methodist Church and enjoyed teaching the children in Sunday school.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Babbitt, Rudd; Glorida Schmidt, Charles City, and Susan Burns and her husband, Donald, Rudd; seven grandchildren, Terry Reams, Mary Coburn, Naomi Mollica, Robert Schroder, Tim Sigler, Tami Cleghorn and April Burns; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two grandchildren and one sister.

Charles Thronson

VENTURA _ Charles Thronson, 90, of 1887 200th St., died Monday (June 30, 1997) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. John W. Hemann of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Garner, officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Charles was born four miles south of Ventura, on July 8, 1906, the son of Albert and Josephine (Stork) Thronson. He attended Union #4 school south of Ventura.

Charles farmed with his dad and continued to farm with sister and brother-in-law for 65 years. He also did trucking for area farmers.

Charles enjoyed his pets on the farm. He especially loved spending time with his nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a member of the Ventura Elevator for over 23 years.

Due to ill health, he moved into the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, in May of 1995.

Charles is survived by a sister, Maxine Ormsby and her husband, Jim, Ventura; three nieces, Kathy Meinecke and her husband, Don, Forest City; Karen Purcell and her husband, Dan, Clear Lake; and Joan Losey and her husband, Brad, of Clear Lake; seven great-nieces and nephews, Christopher Meinecke, Jennifer Meinecke, Mike Purcell, Matthew Purcell, Benjamin Purcell, Rachel Purcell and Courtney Losey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis Thronson; and one great-niece, Sarah Purcell.

William James McManus

PHOENIX, Ariz. _ William James McManus of Phoenix, a brother of James Foley of Mason City, Iowa, died June 20, 1997, at his home.

He was born in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of James E. And Mary A. McManus.

Bill was an Air Force veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He spent 20 years in the Armed Services and later was a Lockheed employee until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Julia; daughters, Patricia McManus, Lynda Greer and Julie Steele; son, Mark; and four granddaughters, all of Phoenix; his sister, Jane and her husband, Mel Foley and their sons, Greg and Jim of Mason City, Iowa; and other nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Wenzel; and an infant brother, Thomas.

Services were held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Phoenix with the Rev. Frank Peacock presiding. Burial was in Holy Ghost Catholic Cemetery.

Participating in the ceremonies was the Air Force Color Guard from Luke Air Force Base.

Max Clayton Adams

MARBLE ROCK _ Memorial services for Max Clayton Adams, 69, of Friendship Acres, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Westside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Reid_s Funeral Chapel, with a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Max Clayton Adams was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Marble Rock, a son of Gerald Edwin and Ena Louise (Ackley) Adams, and died Saturday evening (June 28, 1997) at his home in Marble Rock following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He received his education in the Marble Rock Public Schools graduating in 1945 and attended Iowa State University where he studied Civil Engineering. He was then engaged in the Merchant Marines - Army Transport Company, in New York.

On Feb. 27, 1947, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served as company clerk for the 114th Signal Service Company in Germany. He was discharged on June 29, 1948. He re-enlisted on Jan. 27, 1949, serving with the Headquarter Company of the 937th Combat Engineering Group serving in Korea during that conflict.

Following his discharge, on Aug. 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lois W. Shultz. To this union were born four children: Debra, Amber, Reid and Darla.

Max received his Journeyman Electricians Card and worked for various companies in electrical construction.

In 1960, he and his family returned to Marble Rock and two years later, he began working for the Oliver Tractor Works, later White Farm Equipment until his retirement in 1990.

He served on the U.A.W. Executive Board, trustee, skill trades chairman and served on the Bargaining and Grievance Committee.

For 23 years, Max lived in Rockford. He was united in marriage to Marlys (Clapp) North in November of 1972. To this union, was born one daughter, Emily Adams. Marlys died Aug. 25, 1984. In 1994, Max returned to Marble Rock making his home at Friendship Acres.

Max was an avid reader of historical and fiction books and enjoyed going fishing. He was a life member of the V.F.W. in Charles City and the American Legion in Marble Rock.

Living family members include four daughters and their spouses, Debra and Otto Warren of Augusta, Kan.; Amber and Randy Bushbaum of Rockwell; Darla and Philip Parker of Rockford, and Emily Adams of Charles City; one son, Reid and his wife, Jackie Adams of Marble Rock; four stepchildren, Ricky North of Arkansas; Lisa Powell of Washington; Andrea Moore of Rudd, and Robin Fischer of Rockford; 13 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; four sisters and their spouses, Shirley Sellon of Mason City; Faith and Louis Flaschenreim of Belle Plaine, Minn.; Ruth and Don Newton of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Judi and Darryl Rabideau of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four brothers and their spouses, Owen and Florence Adams of Bishopville, S.C.; Lee and Eva Adams of Union, Mo.; Larry and Mary Lou Adams of El Cajon, Calif., and Dr. Jerry and Julie Adams of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, parents and one brother, Dean Adams, who died in infancy.

Wm. N. 'Bill' Knoll

BURT _ Wm. N. "Bill" Knoll, 76, of Burt, died Sunday (June 29, 1997) at the Algona Manor Care

Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church, Lone

Rock, with the Rev. Donald Seeger officiating. Burial will be in the Burt Township Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 3:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home,

Bancroft, and after noon Wednesday at the church.

Bill was born Feb. 1, 1921, in rural Lone Rock.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Knoll of Burt; children, Donna Gillispie of Aurora, Colo.; Linda

Tjarks of Titonka; Richard Knoll of Fenton; Sandra Sigmund of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Laura Richter of Algona; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Ardith Holt of Spring Valley, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Adella Ulses

BANCROFT _ Adella Ulses, 86, of Bancroft, died Monday (June 30, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eugene Ulses and the Rev. John Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, with a 3 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Adella was born on April 18, 1911, at Dyersville.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin of Bancroft; and children, Thomas Ulses of Bancroft; Roger Ulses of Fenton; the Rev. Eugene Ulses of Humboldt; Paul Ulses of Joice and Rosemary Zaugg of Fort Worth, Texas; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Linus Vaske of Bancroft; and one sister, Valeria Lynch of Bancroft.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, five brothers and two sisters.

Ila L. Kingery Miller

GREENE _ Funeral services for Ila L. Kingery Miller, 90, of 410 East Traer, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reid_s Funeral Chapel, with a public Scripture service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Wednesday at the church.

Ila Loraine Stirm was born Nov. 7, 1906, in Waterloo, a daughter of Carl G. And Ella (Bishop) Stirm, and died Sunday (June 29, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

She received her education in the rural Black Hawk and Buchanan County schools.

On Sept. 4, 1926, she was united in marriage to Vivian T. Kingery at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Greene area until 1947, when they moved into Greene. For many years, Ila assisted Vivian in his fuel oil business. Vivian died on March 26, 1965.

On Feb. 29, 1968, she was united in marriage to Henry F. Miller. He died Sept. 26, 1977. Ila continued to live in her home until her death.

Ila was a 70 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, member of the Good Cheer Circle and the U.P.W. She was a member of the Greene Woman_s Club. Her interests included flower gardening, cooking and baking.

Living family members include her two sons and their spouses, Lloyd and Georgieann Kingery of Royal, and Roland and Carol Kingery of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter, Lynn and her husband, Tom Manson of Waverly; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; parents; two sisters; Marion Richards and Irene Walker; five brothers, Russell, Kenneth, Elwood, Clifford and Clair Stirm; and one stepson, Darrell Miller.

Mabel Irene Van Hoosen Merwin

CLEAR LAKE _ Mabel Irene Van Hoosen Merwin, 85, of Clear Lake, died Monday (June 30, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Tim Merwin and the Rev. David French of First Assembly of God Church, Mason City, officiating. Interment will be in Grant Center Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

The family suggests memorials in her name.

Mabel was born on a farm north of Ventura, Jan. 1, 1912, to Abe and Louise Van Hoosen.

She graduated from Fertile High School in 1930. She then attended teacher_s college in Cedar Falls. She taught in Grant, Lincoln and Lime Creek rural school until she married Arthur Dale Merwin on June 24, 1939, and had lived in Clear Lake since that time.

She gave her heart to Jesus on Aug. 22, 1933. She loved teaching Sunday School, Children_s Church, being a guide, in Christian Women_s Club besides volunteer work at the Clear Lake Care Center.

Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband, Art Merwin, Clear Lake; daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Eugene Jackson, Greensburg, Ind.; Glenys and her husband, Al Schloemer, and Phyllis and her husband, Robert Rush, all of Mason City; one son, Larry Merwin and his wife, Hilda, Satellite Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Vera and her husband, Spence Abrams Sr., Clear Lake, and Etta Mae Conroy, Garner; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Edgar Randolph.

Audrey Altick

OSAGE _ Audrey Altick, 67, of Osage, died Monday (June 30, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Hill officiating. Interment of the cremains will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home.

Audrey Altick was born Nov. 28, 1929, on a farm in Floyd County.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Altick, Osage; one daughter, Diane Muller, Iowa City; two sons, Dennis Altick and David Altick, both of Osage; six grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Krones of Osage; and one brother, Verle McKee, Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Henry A. Ziegler

CLARION _ Henry A. "Ad" Ziegler, 87, of Clarion, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Willim Funeral Home, with Mark Young of the Clarion Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Henry A. Ziegler was born July 20, 1909, in Russia.

Survivors include his wife, Ione Ziegler, Clarion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Josephine Fabricius

OSAGE _ Josephine Fabricius, 85, of Osage, died Monday (June 30, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior_s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Champion Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Josephine Fabricius was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Nodaway.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Fabricius, Osage; one daughter, Carol Ann Cox, Ames; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son and one brother.

Lucille Evelyn Vogel

BANCROFT _ Lucille Evelyn Vogel, 85, of Bancroft, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at the Heritage Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

Lucille Evelyn Vogel was born on July 19, 1912, in Illinois.

She is survived by her children, Karen Mortensen of Swea City; and William "Bill" Vogel, Bancroft; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.

ALGONA _ Maxine L. Clegg, 63, of Algona, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C.

Visitation will be held after 4:30 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home, with a public Order of Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.

Maxine L. Clegg was born March 11, 1934, in Algona.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. William L. Clegg, Algona; two sons, Howard Clegg, Madrid, and Wayne Clegg, Algona; two daughters, Susan Clegg of Sheldon, and Julie Sewick of Algona; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be designated to the First Congregational Church, U.C.C.

Peter Paul Freund

ROCKWELL _ Peter Paul Freund, 76, of 1002 N. Washington Ave., Mason City, formerly of Rockwell, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted at the church by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Following services, his body will be cremated. Family graveside services will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church until service time.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral chapel.

Donald Arthur Hagen

CLEAR LAKE _ Donald Arthur Hagen, 76, of Green Meadows Trailer Court, died June 16, 1997, in Carrollton, Texas.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Forest City.

Metro Crest Funeral Home, Carrollton, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Arthur Hagen was born Jan. 11, 1921, in rural Forest City.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra of Dayton, Ohio; three sons, Daniel Hagen, Carrollton, Texas; Gregory Hagen of Pennsylvania and Allen Hagen, Wilmington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Darlene Alexander of Mason City, and Elaine Beard of Clear Lake; and one brother, Eldon Hagen of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Peter Paul Freund

ROCKWELL _ Peter Paul Freund, 76, of 1002 N. Washington Ave., Mason City, formerly of Rockwell, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Peter Paul Freund was born July 14, 1920, in Garner, son of Peter and Katherine (Heck) Freund. He married Catherine Marceille Curley on April 12, 1947, in Austin, Minn.

Peter lived most of his life in Rockwell. He served as a corporal in the Marines during World War II. He worked construction for 40 years until retiring in 1979.

Peter enjoyed fishing, woodworking and he loved to play cards.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and a past member of American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Marceille Freund, Mason City; three daughters, Mary Kay Anderson, Mason City; Paulette Gabel and her husband, Roger, Charles City, and Debbie Gabel and her husband, David, Rockford; five grandchildren, Steve Gabel and his wife, Tina, Mason City; Scott Gabel, Rockford; Michelle Gabel, Mason City; Mike Gabel, Rockford, and Marty Anderson, Mason City; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Lee, Mason City, and Calista Kingery, Mason City; and two sisters, Marie Meier, Milan, Ill., and Rosella Gerk, Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Matilda Grosland and Josephine Klesel.

Willie Clarence Turner

Todd Evans Beamer

MADRAS, Ore. _ Former Mason City, Iowa, resident Todd Evans Beamer, 28, drowned accidentally while running with five family water-dogs along an irrigation ditch road west of Madras, Ore.

Born in Portland, Ore., on Sept. 11, 1968, Todd lived in Mason City, Iowa, from 1973-74 when his father, Dr. Leland P. "Bud" Beamer Jr. performed his surgical residency with Surgical Associates of Mason City.

The son of North Iowa natives, Leland P. Beamer and Linda Beamer Shortreed, he was employed as a teacher at Neah-Kah-Nie High School in Rockaway Beach, Ore., where he was also a talented and enthusiastic coach for the school_s football, basketball and track teams.

Todd was a dedicated community philanthropist committing his time and talent to the creation and development of programs for the enrichment and education of young people in Rockaway Beach.

Todd was a top athlete at Madras High School, being selected as first team Great Oregon League quarterback his senior season in 1986 where he took his team to the state playoffs. He went on to play quarterback at Eastern Oregon Community College where he earned his degree in City Planning., an occupation which he enjoyed until earning his Masters Degree in Education, which led him successfully into the teaching profession.

An avid skier, snowboarder, runner and all-around athlete, Todd loved nature and the opportunities Oregon provided to ski, hike, fly fish and white water river raft.

More than 1,200 people attended the funeral services held in Madras for Todd on June 12, 1997. Almost four hours of stories, salutes and remembrances comprised the program celebrating his young life.

He is also survived by his great aunt and uncle, Marge and John Evans Jr. of Mason City, Iowa; his aunt and uncle, Holly Wilkins Stork and David Stork, and his aunt and uncle, Phyllis and John Beamer, all of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Todd was preceded in death by his grandparents, Phyllis and William Wilkins Sr. of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Elizabeth and Leland P. Beamer Sr. of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

MASON CITY _ Joleen Brookhart, 59, of 16531 245th St., died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., with Pastor Miles Grismore and Pastor Dave Callison officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Joleen was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Davis County, daughter of Ernest and Emma (Simmons) Blew.

She attended and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1954. She attended the University of Northern Iowa, Centerville Junior College and Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo.

Joleen taught school for five years at Keota and two years at Bloomfield.

She was married to Richard Brookhart on June 10, 1961, at Bloomfield.

They moved to Mason City in 1963 and Joleen taught for one year at Lincoln School and one year at Grant School.

She did cake decorating out of her home for over 20 years, for many weddings and birthdays.

She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 16 and taught Sunday school classes ever since.

She was an active member of Faith Baptist Church of Mason City.

Joleen and Richard visited the Heritage Care Center every Sunday afternoon and conducted a worship service for the residents.

Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Brookhart, Mason City; son, Robert L. Brookhart, Council Bluffs; sisters, Wilma Gay of Bloomfield; Marlene Pilcher and her husband, Forest, Bloomfield, and Norma Jean Swaim and her husband, Gail, Ottumwa; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Opal Blew, Bloomfield; Francis Blew, Belnap; and Helen Blew, Drakesville; and one brother-in-law, Gene Stogdill, Drakesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chastle "Jim" Blew, Van Blew and Darrell Blew; and sisters, Seletha Wilbanks, Beatrice "Bea" Cormeny and Doris Stogdill.

Marvin J. Voigts

Marvin John Voigts was born June 24, 1919, in rural West Point Township, Butler County, a son of Henry and Minnie (Schrage) Voigts; and died Thursday (July 3, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital of sudden cardiac failure.

He received his education in the West Point Township School and as a young man farmed on the family farm and was employed by the Allison Creamery as a cream hauler.

On Oct. 4, 1942, he was united in marriage to Norma D. Blaas at St. John_s Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar.

In 1946, they started farming in the Vilmar area where they remained for 40 years until they retired and moved into Greene in 1983. He was a salesman for Moormans Feed for many years.

Following retirement, Marvin and Norma spent 14 winters in Texas.

He enjoyed fishing, visiting with his friends and neighbors and working in his workshop.

He had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed being with them whenever he could.

He was baptized on July 20, 1919, and confirmed on Aug. 8, 1934, at St. John_s Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar where he served on the church council for several years. Marvin and Norma participated in the small group Bible study for over 20 years.

Living family members include his loving wife of 55 years, Norma of Greene; two daughters, Bonnie Hiatt of West Des Moines, and Joan and her husband, Roger Keeler of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Brian Gabbard; Billy Wilson, and Kelly and Krissy Hiatt; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Jacob and Jeremy Gabbard; and four sisters, Frieda Wiegman of Hampton; Mabel Heber of Waterloo; Donna Burrier of Waverly, and Darlene McWhirter of Traer.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda in 1954; son-in-law, Larry Hiatt; his parents; one sister, Lilly Bauman; and one brother, Clarence Voigts.

Victor L. Dieterich

OSAGE _ Victor L. Dieterich, 86, of Osage, died Wednesday (July 2, 1997) at the Faith Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John_s Evangelical Lutheran Church, southwest of Osage, with Vicar Steven Barker officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, rural Osage.

Victor was born Oct. 22, 1910, in rural Osage, the son of Herman and Carolena (Hartwig) Dieterich.

He attended schools in the Osage area and graduated from Osage High School in 1929. Victor attended the University of Mississippi, majoring in voice and civil engineering.

Later he moved back to Osage and worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Victor married Ruth Johnson on Dec. 22, 1940, in Osage.

They lived and farmed in the Osage area until retirement in 1972, and then they moved to Osage in 1983.

Victor was a life-long member of St. John_s Lutheran Church, southwest of Osage, where he was a very active member until failing health.

He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and was also an avid sports fan.

Survivors include one sister, Doris Paulsen, Mason City; one nephew, Jim McClain and his wife, Patricia, Seattle, Wash.; two nieces, Dr. Elizabeth Payne, Minneapolis, Minn., and Helen Hansen, Denver, Colo.; four grand nieces; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, in 1985; and two sisters.
