Chester `Chet' Nathan Stromley

NORTHWOOD  



Chester ``Chet'' Nathan Stromley, 76, of Northwood, died Tuesday

(Feb. 18, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Shell

Rock Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alf Merseth officiating. 

Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery.



Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial

Chapel, 99 11th St. South, and one hour prior to service time

on Friday at the church.



Chester ``Chet'' Nathan Stromley was born on July 24, 1920,

in Worth County, the son of Christian and Nelina (Johnson) Stromley.

He attended and received his education in the rural schools

near Otranto.  He was united in marriage to Eleanor Sanvik on

Oct. 5, 1941, at First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.

After their marriage they lived near Garner where he worked

on a farm for Louie Grell before moving back to Northwood, working

for the Rock Island Railroad as a section foreman.  He also worked

for Karks Rendering Works in Osage, Greene Rendering Works in

Greene, and the National By Products in Mason City.  He also

worked for LeRoy and Mickey Arnold on their farm near Northwood,

Crystal Sugar Company in Mason City, Winnebago Industries in

Forest City, and Curries Manufacturing Company in Mason City,

until his retirement in 1984.  After his retirement he enjoyed

mowing lawns and blowing snow for several people in Northwood.



He enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, working with

his hands in his garage, and fishing.



He was a member of First Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood.



Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Stromley of Northwood; four

children, Sharon Gentz and her husband, Richard, of Northwood;

Darlene Spear and her husband, Larry, of Hampton; Dennis Stromley

and his wife, Kyla, of St. Ansgar, and Denise Geerlings of North

Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;

seven brothers, Obert Stromley and his wife, DeAlda, of Marble

Rock; Reuben Stromley and his wife, Helen, of Mason City; Robert

Stromley and his wife, Dee, of Brunswick, Ga.; Kenneth Stromley

of Sacramento, Calif.; Rodney Stromley and his wife, Wilma, of

Nora Springs; Wayne Stromley and his wife, Linda, of Mason City,

and Mike Stromley of Rhode Island; seven sisters, Sadie Thompson

of Joice; Esther Nelson of Northwood; Ruby Mae Stromley of Joice;

Ardith of Denver, Colo.; Barbara of Mason City, Marg of Mason

City, and Rachael of Albert Lea, Minn.; as well as other relatives

and friends.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Stromley;

and two brothers, George and Roger Stromley.

Dale J. `Bucky' Heimer

STACYVILLE  



Dale J. ``Bucky'' Heimer, 43, of Stacyville, died Friday (Feb.

7, 1997) in a helicopter accident in Tasmania, Australia.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Visitation

Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Schneider and the Rev. John

Hemann officiating.  Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hatten & Sons

Funeral Home, with a Scripture service at 8 p.m.



Dale Heimer was born on June 27, 1953, in Osage, the son of

Jerome and Joan (Loecher) Heimer.  He attended schools in Stacyville,

and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1971.



He was united in marriage to Sydney Grinstead on July 29, 1972,

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage.



Dale was the owner of Bawek's Shoe and Clothing Store of Stacyville

since 1974.  He was a former Stacyville city councilman, past

president of the Stacyville Community Club, a member of the Stacyville

Volunteer Fire Department, and was active in the Catholic Foresters

and Knights of Columbus.  He was also employed as a helicopter

pilot for Northland Helicopter of Stacyville and most recently

for Scott's Helicopter in LeSeuer, Minn.  At the time of his

death, he was employed by Osborne Aviation Services of Tasmania,

Australia, as an agricultural helicopter pilot.



Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sydney, of Stacyville;

a son, Jason, of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Laura, of Nora Springs;

his parents, Jerome and Joan Heimer, of Garner; brothers, Dwaine

Heimer and his wife, Karen, of Stacyville, and Daryl Heimer of

Garner; sisters, Joellen Johnson and her husband, Randy, of Olympia,

Wash.; Joyce Morud and her husband, David, of Nora Springs, and

Corrine Heimer of Alton; in-laws, James and Barbara Grinstead

of Osage; brothers-in-law, Brian Grinstead and his wife, Deb,

of Osage, and Bradley Grinstead and his wife, Connie, of Oklahoma

City, Okla.; special friends, Mike and Becky Meek of Stacyville;

and 11 nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one infant

brother.

Ann Bettesworth

ALLISON  



Ann Bettesworth, 88, of Allison, died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 1997)

at the Allison Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sietsema-Vogel

Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Schultz officiating.  Burial

will be in the Allison Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral

home.



Ann Bettesworth was born June 16, 1908, in Butler County.



Survivors include three sisters, Katie Dralle and Edna Williams,

both of Allison, and Grace Allison of Parkersburg; and one brother,

John Buss of Allison.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers

and two sisters.

Gary Lynn Osmonson

ST. ANSGAR  



Gary Lynn Osmonson, 50, of Nisswa, Minn., formerly of St. Ansgar,

died Monday (Feb. 17, 1997) at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United

Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating.

Burial will be in the Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minn.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder

& Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.



Gary Lynn Osmonson was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Austin, Minn.,

the son of Denver and Irma (Pope) Osmonson.  He attended grade

school in Otranto and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in

1965, during which time he began working for restaurants in his

chosen profession of cooking.  He continued schooling at Dunwoody

Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., graduating with a culinary arts

degree.  He then worked in several restaurants in the Twin Cities

area, including the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.  His summers were

spent working as a chef in the Drift Wood Resort near Jenkins,

Minn., and in 1972, he bought Gabe's in St. Ansgar, which he

owned until 1984. It was known for its delicious fish.  He opened

a restaurant in Jenkins, Minn., known as Ozzie's Fish House in

1985.  His last place of employment was the Quarterdeck Restaurant

near Nisswa, Minn.



He was able to travel in winter to be near the beaches that

he loved. He passed away on Feb. 17, 1997, at his home in Nisswa,

Minn., at the age of 50 years.



He leaves to mourn, his mother, Irma Osmonson, of St. Ansgar;

one sister, Ann Hendrickson and her husband, Horace, of Northwood;

one brother, Roger and his wife, Sara, of St. Ansgar; two nieces,

Jill Hill and her husband, Dave, of Mason City, and Jana Heubsch

and her husband, James, of Osage; one great-niece, Hilary Huebsch;

three aunts and several cousins.



He was preceded in death by his father.

Viva Sessions

ROLLETTE, N.D.  



Viva Sessions, 93, of Rollette, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 1997)

at Presentation Care Center.



Burial was in North Dakota, with memorial services at a later

date in Nora Springs, Iowa.



Viva was born March 26, 1903, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter

of Joe and Nellie Du Vall.  She was married to James Sessions

on June 20, 1943.



She lived in Nora Springs, Iowa, until November of 1995, where

she was an active member of the United Methodist Church and choir.

She was a 50-year member of the American Federation of Musicians

and local 230.  She played piano with the Ponderosa Boys, entertaining

for many years.



Survivors include her niece, Donna (Fred) Julien of Nora Springs,

Iowa; half-sisters, Anne Sturm of North Dakota, and Dorothy Benny

of Alabama; half-brother, Robert Du Vall of Florida; and other

relatives and friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother,

one sister and three half-brothers.

Mary S. (Basgall) Todd

MANLY  



Mrs. Mary S. (Basgall) Todd, 85, formerly of Manly, died Tuesday

(Feb. 18, 1997) at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred

Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew officiating.

Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.



Visitation will begin after 6:30 p.m. Friday at Bride Colonial

Chapel, with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m.



Mary was born in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Emanuel M. and

Barbara (Frank) Basgall.  She lived most of her life in Manly.

She and her husband moved to Des Moines to live.  While living

in Des Moines she worked at Younkers as a cook.  They moved to

Manly.  The last two years she had lived in Altoona.



Mary enjoyed crocheting, cooking, shopping and going to garage

sales.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.



Mary is survived by four children, the Rev. Ermine Todd Jr.

and his wife, Aldyn, of Glen Carbon, Ill.; Jacqueline Trout of

Osage; Susan Deets and her husband, Marlin, of Redfield, and

John Todd and his wife, Rosetta, of Palm Bay, Fla.; two brothers,

Clarence Basgall of Dodge Center, Minn., and Jake Basgall of

Marina Valley, Calif.; four sisters, Maggie Reed of Clear Lake;

Katie Hebel and her husband, Jack, of Manly; Rose Mandt of Adams,

Minn., and Barbara Lenhart and her husband, Charles, of Clear

Lake.  She was the grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 31

and great-great-grandmother of one.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1985; one

granddaughter, Nancy Todd; and three brothers, Sylvester Basgall

and Joe Basgall, and one who died in infancy.

Charlie Doland

MASON CITY  



Charlie Doland, 62, of 13 Seventh St. N.W., died Tuesday (Feb.

18, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.



A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family

Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Carl A. Ries

of St. Joseph Catholic Church and TRev. Herbert G. Shafer of

Grace United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in

Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.



Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial

Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.



Memorials may be made to the Charlie Doland Memorial Fund.



Charlie Doland was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Fayette County, the

son of Orville and Mabel Pearl (Everett) Doland.  He married

Virginia Ream on Oct. 12, 1985, in Waverly.



Charlie grew up and attended school in the Waterloo area.  He

moved to Mason City in the early 1960s and owned and operated

Charlie's Cement Company with his son and sons-in-law for many

years.  He and his wife, Virginia, are currently operating Peachtree

Auto Sales.



Charlie had a special love for life.  His family and friends

were the most important thing to him.



Charlie loved nature and the outdoors.  He enjoyed golfing,

fishing and was an avid sports fan, enjoying boxing and auto

racing.



Charlie will be sadly missed by his family and many, many friends.



Survivors include his wife, Virginia Doland, of Mason City;

two daughters, Tammy Smith and her husband, Mickey, of Mason

City, and Christine Dirksen and her husband, Paul, of Plymouth;

two sons, Ronald Doland and his wife, Marcie, of Manly, and Matthew

Doland of Forest City; one stepson, Scott Ream of Iowa City;

seven grandchildren, Tonya, Angie and Brandon Smith, all of Mason

City, Nathan and Ryan Dirksen, both of Plymouth, and Christopher

Thompson and Cory Doland, both of Manly; four brothers, Delmar

Doland of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and Eldon Doland, Lee Doland

and Kenny Doland, all of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and one

son, Terry Lynn Doland and Norman Eugene Doland, both in infancy;

two brothers, Ronald and Everett Doland; and one stepson, Jeffrey

Ream.

Clair V. Hildman

HUMBOLDT  



Clair V. Hildman, 82, of Humboldt, and formerly of Wesley, died

Wednesday (Feb. 19, 1997) at the Community Memorial Hospital

in Clarion.



A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday

at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wesley, with Father Paul Bormann

as celebrant.  Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery

with military graveside rites conducted by Andrews American Legion

Post #428 of Wesley.



Visitation will be held after 2:30 p.m. today with a Catholic

Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer

service at 7:30 p.m. at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral

Home, Wesley.



Clair V. Hildman was born on Aug. 14, 1914, near Wesley, to

George V. and Sophia Wirth Hildman.  He received his education

at the St. Benedict Catholic School, St. Benedict.  After his

schooling, Clair worked for John Mullins at Corwith.  Clair served

his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.  He was a medical

corpsman and served three years in Alaska.  On June 23, 1948,

Clair was married to Loretta Priester at the St. Michael's Catholic

Church in Whittemore.  The couple farmed northwest of Wesley

until 1980, when they retired and moved to Humboldt.



Clair was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in

Wesley and a present member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in

Humboldt.  He enjoyed golfing, dancing and woodworking.  He also

enjoyed old machinery and attended numerous events where the

old tractors and engines were working in the field.  Clair was

a member of the Adams American Legion Post #119, Humboldt, and

a former member of Andrews American Legion Post #428 of Wesley.



Clair is survived by his wife, Loretta, of Humboldt; and his

children, Pam Hildman of Des Moines; Bonnie Holland and her husband,

Bob, of Overland Park, Kan.; Mary Hildman of Charles City; Richard

Hildman and his wife, Patti, of Runnells; Lois Cook and her husband,

Rick, of Waterloo, Ill., and Don Hildman and his wife, Mary,

of Britt.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild;

and sisters and brothers, Mildred Martin of Humboldt; Irwin Hildman

and his wife, Helen, of Wesley; Adella Kellner of Humboldt; Leo

Hildman of Wesley, and Alred ``Shorty'' Hildman and his wife,

Eleanor, of Burt.



Clair was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters,

Beatrice and Rosella Neuroth.

Arthur `Carroll' Walker

NORTHWOOD  



Arthur ``Carroll'' Walker, 85, of Northwood, died Sunday (Feb.

16, 1997) at his home in Northwood.



Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United

Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. 

Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today today at the Conner

Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. South, and one hour prior to service

time on Friday at the church.



The family of Arthur ``Carroll'' Walker has requested that memorial

contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 Second St.

S.E., Mason City, or to the Good Shepherd Telephone Reassurance

Center, 302 Second St. N.E., Mason City, in his memory.



Arthur ``Carroll'' Walker was born on Oct. 4, 1911, in Northwood,

the son of Charles and Sara (Dammen) Walker.  He attended and

received his education in the Northwood School System.  He also

attended CLU at Drake University for two years.  He was united

in marriage to Helen Severson on Aug. 6, 1933, in Albert Lea,

Minn.  She preceded him in death on March 8, 1988.  In 1931,

he became the owner and oeprator of the Leader Grocery Store

in Northwood until 1941 when he sold his store and began working

in sales for State Farm Insurance Company in Northwood, Decorah

and Marshalltown until 1951, when he started working for the

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Business Department, Bell & Howell Schools,

and Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester, Minn., and Johnson

Pontiac in Rochester, Minn., until 1961, when he began working

at Vance's Jack & Jill Grocery Store in Le Claire, until 1968,

when he went back to Bell & Howell Schools and the U.S. Chamber

of Commerce Business Department until his retirement in 1973,

moving back to Northwood.



He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood,

Northwood Senior Citizens Center, former member of the Elks Club

and Optimist Club in Marshalltown.



Survivors include one daughter, Mary Walker, of Le Claire; two

sons, Thomas Walker and his wife, Erica, of Ankeny, and James

Walker and his wife, Sharon, of Wayzata, Minn.; five grandchildren,

Melissa Hajek and her husband, Randy, of Davenport, N.D.; Pamela

Stewart and her husband, Guy, of Ventura, Calif.; Karen Byrnes

and her husband, Kevin, of Omaha, Neb.; Barbara Broadbear and

her husband, Jim, of Normal, Ill., and Andrew Walker of Ankeny;

nine great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.



Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and

a sister, Dorothy, who died in infancy.

Emma M. Leach

MASON CITY  



Emma M. Leach, 92, of Nora Springs, and formerly of 1515 S.

Massachusetts Ave., died Tuesday (Feb. 18, 1997) at the Nora

Springs Care Center.



Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. James

Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson

officiating.  Burial will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.



There will be no visitation; the body was cremated.  Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.



The family suggests memorials to the Emma M. Leach Memorial

Fund.



Emma M. Leach was born Feb. 28, 1904, in Rockwell, the daughter

of Karl and Anna (Roben) Haake.  Emma attended country school

near Rockwell.  She moved to Des Moines where she married Dell

Leach on May 1, 1923.  Emma came to Mason City in 1946, and enjoyed

cooking, flowers and especially roses.



She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rockwell.



Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Vivian ``LaVon'' Leach

of Mason City; two grandchildren, Linda Hanson and her husband,

Kurt, of Nora Springs, and Dennis Leach of Mason City; two great-

grandsons, Gabriel Leach and Timothy Hanson; three stepgreat-

grandchildren, Trisha Bendickson and her husband, Jeremy; Troy

Hanson and Tara Hanson; two stepgreat-great-grandsons; one half-

sister, Esther Vosburgh of Mason City; several nieces, several

great-nieces and nephews, several great-great-nieces and nephews;

and several cousins.

Helen Pollock

GARNER 



Helen Pollock, 91, of Garner, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 1997)

at Concord Care Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United

Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Willis Nicholson officiating.

Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral

Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St.



Helen Pauline Pollock was born June 23, 1905, on a farm near

Hayfield.



Survivors include one daughter, Jean Henschen of Klemme; one

son, Larry Pollock of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; six grandchildren;

and five great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers

and one grandson.

Rose Stebritz

ALGONA 



Rose Stebritz, 93, of Algona, died Wednesday (Feb. 19, 1997)

at Heritage Acres Care Center, Cedar Rapids.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.  Saturday at St.

Cecilia's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Broderson officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.



Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. today at Wilson Funeral

Home,  where there will be a combined Legion of Mary and Catholic

Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m.  There will be a Scripture

reading at 7 p.m.



Rose was born Oct. 4, 1903, in Goldfield, a daughter of Chris

and Anna (Hansen) Madsen.



She is survived by three daughters, Bev Hanson of Cedar Rapids;

Joan Klepper of Kaui, Hawaii; and Diane Kirsch of Overland Park,

Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and three great-

great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son,

one daughter, four sisters and three brothers.

ST ANSGAR 



Edgar Scheer, 86, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 1997)

at Good Samaritan Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel

Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial

will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.



Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday at the church.



Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Edgar Scheer was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Colmen, S.D.



He is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Stuckey of Gering,

Neb.; Eleanor Koenigs of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and Etta Jensen of

Creighton, Neb.; three brothers, Martin of Dubois, Wyo.; Elmer

of Amesworth, Neb.; and Earl of Creighton, Neb.; five grandchildren;

and 15 great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, a

brother and a sister.

Sarah M. Schadt

MASON CITY 



Sarah M. Schadt, 87, of 1034 Sixth St. S.W., died Thursday

(Feb. 20, 1997) at Good Shepherd Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Major

Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev.

James B. Norem of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial

will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and on Saturday morning

until time of services at the funeral home.



Memorials may be made to Sarah M. Schadt Memorial Fund.



Sarah M. Schadt was born Sept. 26, 1909, in Stahl, Mo., the

daughter of William and Myrtle (Smith) Burns.



Sarah was a longtime resident of Mason City, moving here in

1927. She married Harold V. Schadt on June 16, 1951, in Mason

City. Sarah was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed

sewing.



She is survived by her husband, Harold V. Schadt of Mason City;

a daughter, Marie Sullivan of Mason City; a son, Valory Schadt

and his wife, Bernita, of Sheffield; a brother, Merle Burns of

Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Kitty Clasing, Cheryl Winters,

Cozette Sawyer, John Sullivan, Randy Sullivan, Ellen Page and

Aaron Sullivan; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren;

and many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Virgil;

one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

Dale Heimer was born on June 27, 1953, in Osage, the son of

Jerome and Joan (Loecher) Heimer.  He attended schools in Stacyville,

and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1971.



He was united in marriage to Sydney Grinstead on July 29, 1972,

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage.



Dale was the owner of Bawek's Shoe and Clothing Store of Stacyville

since 1974.  He was a former Stacyville city councilman, past

president of the Stacyville Community Club, a member of the Stacyville

Volunteer Fire Department, and was active in the Catholic Foresters

and Knights of Columbus.  He was also employed as a helicopter

pilot for Northland Helicopter of Stacyville and most recently

for Scott's Helicopter in LeSeuer, Minn.  At the time of his

death, he was employed by Osborne Aviation Services of Tasmania,

Australia, as an agricultural helicopter pilot.



Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sydney, of Stacyville;

a son, Jason, of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Laura, of Nora Springs;

his parents, Jerome and Joan Heimer, of Garner; brothers, Dwaine

Heimer and his wife, Karen, of Stacyville; and Daryl Heimer of

Garner; sisters, Joellen Johnson and her husband, Randy, of Olympia,

Wash.; Joyce Morud and her husband, David, of Nora Springs; Julie

Bruns and her husband, Bob, of Garner; and Corrine Heimer of

Alton; in-laws, James and Barbara Grinstead of Osage; brothers-in-law,

Brian Grinstead and his wife, Deb, of Osage; and Bradley Grinstead

and his wife, Connie, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; special friends,

Mike and Becky Meek of Stacyville; and 11 nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one infant

brother.

Emma M. Leach was born Feb. 28, 1904, in Rockwell, the daughter

of Karl and Anna (Roben) Haake.  Emma attended country school

near Rockwell.  She moved to Des Moines where she married Dell

Leach on May 1, 1923.  Emma came to Mason City in 1946, and enjoyed

cooking, flowers and especially roses.



She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rockwell.



Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Vivian ``LaVon'' Leach

of Mason City; two grandchildren, Linda Hanson and her husband,

Kurt, of Nora Springs, and Dennis Leach of Mason City; two great-grandsons,

Gabriel Leach and Timothy Hanson; three stepgreat-grandchildren,

Paul F. Fey, 75, of Hot Springs, Ark., formerly of Burlington

and Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 1997) at St. Joseph

Hospital in Hot Springs.



Visitation was held on Wednesday at the Lunning Chapel with

a 7 p.m. rosary and the family present until 8:30 p.m.



A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St.

Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Sterling officiating.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington.



A memorial has been established for the heart association.



Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa, he was the son of Ambrose

and Pauline Lazar Fey.



On July 13, 1948, he married Lois Easton in Mason City, Iowa.



Mr. Fey was a graduate of Mason City High School and attended

St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn.



He was a department manager at Montgomery Ward in Burlington

for 23 years.



He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Burlington

and was a member of the Elk's Lodge for 51 years.



He attended St. John's Catholic Church in Hot Springs, Ark.



He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Hot Springs.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Diana Greco was born Aug. 20, 1947, in Carmel, N.Y., the daughter

of Ralph Donald and Josephine (Hunter) Chadwick. She was married

to Dr. Henry L. Goetz on Nov. 27, 1996.



Diana lived many places in the United States and abroad as an

army child. She obtained a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana

University in 1969. She was employed as administrative assistant

to the director of regulator affairs for Electronucleonics, Columbia,

Md.



Diana was noted for her beauty, charm and sweetness. She had

strong faith and courage in the face of multiple sclerosis and

leukemia. She had a beautiful singing voice and was in many choirs.

She was a gourmet cook.



Diana was a former volunteer in the chaplain's office, Montgomery

General Hospital, Olney, Md. She was a beloved member of Gallilean

Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's society.

She was such a vital member of adult Bible class that the new

adult classroom will be named in her honor.  She also was a member

of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.



Survivors include her parents, Col. Ralph D. and Josephine Chadwick,

The Plains, Va.; her husband, Dr. Henry Goetz, Clear Lake; one

brother, Dan Chadwick and his wife, Martha, Spokane, Wash.; and

two nieces, Rebecca James and Katherine Chadwick.

The family of Charles Arnold Mitchell has requested that in

Charles Arnold Mitchell was born on Oct. 13, 1927, in Little

Cedar, the son of Brodie and Bertha (Carrison) Mitchell. He attended

and received his education in rural schools in Iowa. He was inducted

into the Army Air Corps serving during World War II.



He was united in marriage to Phyllis Barker on Nov. 6, 1949,

in the Northwood Methodist Church. After their marriage, he worked

for Farier Farms in Clear Lake. Also during his life, he worked

for Jacob E. Decker & Sons meat packing in Mason City for several

years, McDonald Construction in Mason City and for Armour Meat

Packing Company in Mason City for several years until his retirement.

After his retirement from Armour, he began working on the Roger

Clagett farm near Kensett, and had been working for Marvin Peterson

Excavating in Kensett until the time of his death.



He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, gardening and collecting toy

fire trucks and farm machinery, but his great love and enjoyment

was his family and friends.



He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kensett, American

Legion in Northwood and the Kensett Volunteer Fire Department.

He also took care of the Kensett Community Center.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Phyllis Mitchell, of

Kensett; eight children, Barbara Berge and her husband, Michael,

of Kensett, Jerry Mitchell and his wife, Elizabeth, of Belmond,

Russell Mitchell and his wife, Linda, of Savannah, Ga., David

Mitchell and special friend, Tracy Leake, of Kensett, Donald

Billie Danto Glazer was born on Oct. 7, 1907, in East Jordan,

Mich., the daughter of Walter Danto and Celia Glazer Danto. 

She attended East Jordan High School where she graduated and

then she earned her bachelor of arts degree in history at the

University of Wisconsin.  She taught in the Detroit high schools.



She met her future husband, Robert Glazer, in Omaha, Neb.,

and they were united in marriage on Feb. 10, 1929, in Louisville,

Ky.  They made their home in Omaha until their clothing store

burned and then moved to Mason City and opened a clothing store

called The Hub.



Following her husband's death in 1973, she continued to operate

the store until moving to Florida 20 years ago.  She was a member

of the Adas Israel Synagogue.  She loved to read and discuss

history and politics.  She enjoyed listening to classical music

and symphonies.  Her love of fashion and retailing continued

throughout her life.



Billie is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Glazer) and her

husband, Larry Levy, of Chicago, Ill.; her son-in-law, Bennett

Wagner; three grandchildren, Adam Drew Wagner and his wife, Susan

(Williams), Robert Harold Levy and his wife, Karen (Dirr) Levy,

and Leslie Ariel and her husband, Lawrence Stone; and three great-

grandchildren, Madeline, Jake and Abigail Stone.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and

her daughter, Gloria Wagner, who died during 1992.
