Ruby J. Hodson

BRITT _ Ruby J. Hodson, 83, of Greenville, N.C., formerly of Britt, died Monday (Aug. 18, 1997) in Greenville, N.C.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at the United Methodist Church, Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the Cataldo Funeral Home, 178 First Ave. S.W., Britt.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Britt United Methodist Church Organ Fund.

Ruby Jane Hodson, the daughter of Morton James and Ruby (Chryst) Olsen, was born June 28, 1914, in Ossian.

She grew up in Forest City and attended school there, graduating in 1931 as class salutatorian.

She attended Waldorf College and graduated Phi Kappa Theta in 1934. After college, she worked as a secretary in the law offices of Boynton and Brown in Forest City until 1943.

On Dec. 28, 1941, she was married to Ralph Andrew Hodson, at Forest City.

In 1943, they moved to Britt. After several years as a homemaker, Ruby became the librarian at the Britt Public Library. She worked there from 1961 until her retirement in 1985.

Ruby enjoyed the theater and musical entertainment and often traveled with her friends to performances. She also enjoyed singing and participated in several Hancock County Little Theater Musical productions.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt and participated in many church activities; she was a member of the UMW, church organist, a member of the choir and church treasurer. She was also active in many clubs and fraternal organizations including Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, PEO, King_s Daughters and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her two sons, John Hodson and his wife, Diane, of St. Louis, Mo., and Charles Hodson and his wife, Patricia, of Greenville, N.C.; four grandchildren; a sister, Louise Anderson of Mason City; and a brother, Morton James Olsen of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1981, and her parents.

Paul R. Poppen

MASON CITY _ Paul R. Poppen, 83, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 1997) at the Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive, with the Rev. John Hill, First Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Richard Pippert, nephew, of United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Paul R. Poppen Memorial Fund.

Paul was born April 19, 1914, in Mason City, the son of William and Kathryn (Bruechert) Poppen.

He graduated from Mason City High School in 1931. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and spent most of his life farming in the Mason City area.

He was married to Amy Lou Haight in 1944 in Mason City. She passed away in 1946.

He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Fox Pascoe on April 24, 1982, in Mason City and she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1994.

He was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Pleasant Ridge Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn "Kathy" Stephens and husband, Jerry, Trenton, Mo.; stepson, Dale Pascoe and his wife, Alyce, Smyrna, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jamie Stephens and his wife, Gretchen, Chillicothe, Mo., and Nancy Mitchell and her husband, Pat, Moline, Ill.; stepgrandchildren, Kelly Kender and her husband, Gary, Kristie Kriss and her husband, Pete, and Kent Pascoe and his wife, Christine; great-grandson, Carter Stephens, Chillicothe, Mo.; sister, Wilma Menshik and her husband, George, Stewartville, Minn.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean Poppen, of Sheldon; Keith and Marguerite Haight, Mason City; Richard and Shirley Dean, Mason City; Charlene Sivwright, Rockwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, and two brothers, Richard and Donald.

Della Schneider

MASON CITY _ Della Schneider, 81, of Mason City, formerly of Sheffield, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Robert Beard officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church, Sheffield, in her memory.

Della Belle Schneider was born on Nov. 17, 1915, on a farm near Sheffield, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Hill) Gauley.

She attended the Geneseo #7 country school graduating with the class of 1933 from Sheffield High School.

She continued to help on the family farm until she was united in marriage to Clarence Schneider in Charles City, on June 6, 1937.

They made their home in Charles City until moving to Davenport in 1940. Upon his retirement, they moved to Sheffield in 1977.

Della enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, the UMW and Sheffield Senior Citizens.

She is survived by three sons, John Schneider of Iowa City; Louis Schneider and his wife, Joan, of Mason City, and David Schneider and his wife, Peggy, of Silvis, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeff Schneider and his wife, Mindy, of Mason City; Lisa Schneider of Kalona, and Suzanne Schneider of Silvis, Ill; two great-grandchildren, Marissa and Matthew Schneider of Mason City; six sisters, Hazel Rogers of Iowa City; Mildred Seydel of Moline, Ill.; Mary Lage of Davenport; Katherine Gauley of Coralville; Elsie Vega of Spearfish, S.D.; Josephine Fletchall of Webster City; and two brothers, Lawrence Gauley of Mason City, and James Gauley, Rockwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Lavern Urbatch

MANLY _ Lavern Urbatch, 70, of rural Manly, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Bride Colonial Chapel.

Ervin L. Halverson

DOWS _ Ervin L. Halverson, 80, of Dows, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, west of Belmond, with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in St. Olaf Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ervin L. Halverson was born Oct. 12, 1916, in rural Belmond.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Dows; one sister, Herma Roseth, Americus, Ga., and two brothers, Garfield "Gus" Halverson and Merlin Halverson, both of Kanawha.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Joseph Mikkelsen

BRITT _ Joseph Mikkelsen, 91, of Britt, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. David Mikkelson, U.S. Army Chaplain, and the Rev. Ted Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Joseph Mikkelsen was born May 29, 1906, at Coulter.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Mikkelsen, of Britt; one daughter, Mona Furnberg, Livermore, Calif.; two sons, Philip Mikkelson of McLeod, Mont., and Dan Mikkelson, Dover, Del.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Martin, San Francisco, Calif., and Lorena Dawson, Mobile Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers and two sisters.

Gilbert "Gib" Runnels

MASON CITY _ Gilbert "Gib" Runnels, 76, of 702 S. Fillmore Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home.

Irma Beryl Osmonson

ST. ANSGAR _ Irma Beryl Osmonson, 86, of St. Ansgar, died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 1997) at the Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Irma Beryl Osmonson was born March 11, 1911, in Worth County.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Hendrickson of Northwood; one son, Roger of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Marjorie Nicholson of Winnebago, Minn., and Velma Gaarder of Albert Lea, Minn.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son and one sister.

Joseph Mikkelsen

BRITT _ Joseph Mikkelsen, 91, of Britt, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Andrew Zahn and the Rev. Ted Henderson officiating. Interment will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Joseph, the son of Johannes and Anna Marie (Sorensen) Mikkelsen, was born May 29, 1906, in Coulter.

In 1941, he moved with his family to the Upper Flat area north of Britt and attended rural school.

On Dec. 18, 1934, he was united in marriage with Mildred Lonning at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

They established their home on the original Mikkelsen farm. In 1943, they moved to their own farm where they lived until 1997. Joseph retired from active farming at the age of 73.

Joseph was a baptized and confirmed member of the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church. He served his Lord in many capacities, including church board, Sunday school teacher and choir. He was active in community affairs, including rural school board, the Britt Cooperative Elevator Board, Farm Bureau, 4-H Leader, Crystal Heights Housing Board and senior citizens.

Joseph liked to hunt and fish and was an avid conservationist. His life centered around in faith in God, serving his church, and his family, taking special pleasure in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Mildred of Britt; two sons, Philip and his wife, Christine, of McLeod, Mont., and Dan and his wife, Christine, of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Mona Furnberg and her husband, Carlton, of Livermore, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Martin and her husband, Oliver, of San Francisco, Calif., and Lorena Dawson, Mobile Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Lorene Mikkelsen of Coral Gables, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers, Soren in infancy, Jens, Christ and Silas; two sisters, Christena Hanson and Hannah Nielsen; and a son, John, in March of 1997.

Martha E. Kingland

CLEAR LAKE _ Mrs. Martha E. Kingland, 91, of 201 S. Fourth St., died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 S. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain at Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in Elim Cemetery, rural Fertile.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Martha was born in Lousia County, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Emma (Stuart) Munson. She attended school in Illinois and then moved to the Forest City area to live.

Martha married Howard Kingland on Dec. 19, 1923, in Charles City.

Martha loved cooking, being with people and gardening. She was a member of the Tina Rebekah Lodge, Clear Lake.

Martha is survived by her two daughters, Lavonne Berry, Cypress, Calif., and Marilyn Peterson and her husband, George, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Barbara Charlson and her husband, Dale, Ventura; Susan Strome and her husband, Paul, of Des Moines; and Jeff Eaton and his wife, Debbie, Visalia, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Todd Charlson, Xan Meinders, Garry Otto, Jason Otto, Amanda Eaton, Travis Eaton and Jayme Eaton; one sister, Edna Crose, Mulberry, Fla.; half brother, Bud Munson, Keithburg, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Marian Munson, Summitt, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Lois H. Rezabek

NORTHWOOD _ Lois H. Rezabek, 83, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 1997) at the Manly Care Center, Manly.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Northwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lois was born May 23, 1914, at Ruthven, to Roy and Etta (Cook) Le Clair. She grew up in Ruthven.

Lois taught country school for several years. When consolidation of schools occurred, she left the profession. She did some part-time work, clerking, telephone operator, and assisted her mother for several years.

Lois married Glenn R. Rezabek on Nov. 10, 1955, in Jackson, Minn. After marrying Glenn in 1955 and helping him finish school, they came to Northwood, where Glenn taught school.

Lois truly loved camping and the trailer has been from the Dakotas to the East Coast and into Canada.

Lois was a wonderful wife and friend. May she rest in peace.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn, of Northwood; and one sister, Myrta Graham, of Ruthven.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

LaVern W. "Bud" Urbatch

MANLY _ LaVern W. "Bud" Urbatch, 70, of 1761 390th St., died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Selmer "Sam" Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., and one hour prior to services at the church.

LaVern W. "Bud" Urbatch was born on July 17, 1927, at rural Manly, the son of Henry and Cynthia (Youmans) Urbatch.

On Dec. 31, 1952, he married Marian Bendickson at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Bud loved farming; he especially liked watching things grow. He also worked as a carpenter for many years.

He also enjoyed flying his airplane.

Bud was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly. He was baptized and confirmed there.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Urbatch, Manly; three sons, Bruce Urbatch and his wife, Julie, Waldorf, Minn.; Bradley and his wife, Ellen, Eldred, Pa; and Douglas Urbatch and his wife, Ellene, Manly; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Travis, Megan, Morgan,and Ashley Urbatch, and Cody Holtz; two sisters, Fern Benhart, Plymouth, and Opal Diedrich, Grafton; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eldred Urbatch; and two brother-in-laws, Lester Benhart and Reuben Diedrich.

MASON CITY _ June C. Tietjens, 81, of 309 S. Crescent Drive, died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, with the Rev. Bob Cummings officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral chapel.

Gilbert L. "Gib" Runnels

MASON CITY _ Gilbert L. "Gib" Runnels, 76, of 706 S. Fillmore Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Fort Snelling, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Loyal Order of the Moose service at 5 p.m. Further visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral chapel.

Clyde C. Smedley

YUMA, Ariz. _ Clyde C. Smedley, 73, died in Yuma, Ariz., on Aug. 18, 1997, of a heart attack.

The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clyde Smedley, the son of Milton and Louisa (Curtis) Smedley, was born Aug. 20, 1923. He grew up around Mason City, Iowa, and graduated from Mason City High School in 1942.

After his parents_ death, he lived with his sister, Reba Miller and her family, near Belmond, Iowa, for two years, then he moved to Montana where he attended college and became a math teacher.

In 1954, he married Donna Lee Ruetten. They movede to Ely, Nev., where he taught school in Ely and nearby towns for about 20 years. They retired to Yuma, Ariz., where they have lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Yuma; and one daughter, Charlene and her husband, Larry Stillion and grandson, Jared, of Rock Springs, Wyo. He is also survived by four sisters, Ruth Auck, of Nora Springs, Iowa; Lettie Bucalstein, La Habra, Calif.; Alice Cogill, of Mason City, Iowa; and Reba Miller, of Belmond, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his parents; and three brothers, Vern, Art and Joe Smedley.

Arden Charles Evans

LAKE MILLS _ Arden Charles Evans, 79, of Lake Mills, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Joice, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Concordia Cemetery, rural Joice.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Arden Charles Evans was born Jan. 21, 1918, south of Joice, in Bristol Township.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Joice; one son, Thomas Evans of Joice; two stepchildren, Lloyd Anderson Jr., of Forest City, and Cathi Brown, of Lake Mills; five stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Cecil Evans, Joice; Larry Evans, of Agoura, Calif., and Leslie Evans of Omaha, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother in infancy.

Gladys V. Eagen

OSAGE _ Gladys V. Eagen, 77, of Osage, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter_s Cemetery, New Haven.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

Gladys V. Eagen was born Sept. 22, 1919, near New Haven.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Eagen of New Haven, and Keith Eagen, Osage; one daughter, Mary Ann Sharron, Grubville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edwin Hein of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two infant granddaughters.

Charles Gollner

WESLEY _ Charles Gollner, 79, of Wesley, died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Martha E. Kingland

CLEAR LAKE _ Mrs. Martha E. Kingland, 91, of 201 S. Fourth St., died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Gilbert L. "Gib" Runnels

MASON CITY _ Gilbert L. "Gib" Runnels, 76, of 702 S. Fillmore Ave., died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at home.

Gib was born April 19, 1921, in Mason City, son of Frank and Helen (Haensch) Runnels.

The family moved to South St. Paul, Minn., in 1928. Gib was a member of the 1939 Class of South St. Paul High School.

He then went to work at Armour and Company and enlisted in the Army Air Force on Jan. 5, 1942.

He spent his war time with the 5th Air Force in Southwest Pacific from 1942 to 1945. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with two clusters, the Air Medal with one cluster, three unit citations and five battle stars.

Gib married Ellen Forsythe on June 2, 1945. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1982.

Gib moved to Mason City in 1978, still working for Armour and Company, retiring in 1983 after 42 years.

He married Nancy (Legler) Wise on Sept. 19, 1991.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed dancing and listening to Big Band music. He was a member of the Clear Lake VFW post #4868 and the Moose Lodge, Mason City.

Joseph Mikkelsen

BRITT _ Joseph Mikkelsen, 91, of Britt, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 20, 1997) at his home in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Andrew Zahn and the Rev. Ted Henderson officiating. Interment will be in the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ewing Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Joseph, the son of Johannes and Anna Marie (Sorensen) Mikkelsen, was born May 29, 1906, in Coulter.

In 1914, he moved with his family to the Upper Flat area north of Britt and attended rural school.

On Dec. 18, 1934, he was united in marriage with Mildred Lonning, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

They established their home on the original Mikkelsen farm. In 1943, they moved to their own farm where they lived until 1997. Joseph retired from active farming at the age of 73.

Joseph was a baptized and confirmed member of the Upper Flat Evangelical Free Church. He served his Lord in many capacities, including church board, Sunday school teacher and choir. He was active in community affairs, including rural school board, the Britt Cooperative Elevator Board, Farm Bureau, 4-H Leader, Crystal Heights Housing Board and senior citizens.

Joseph liked to hunt and fish and was an avid conservationist. His life centered around in faith in God, serving his church, and his family, taking special pleasure in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Mildred of Britt; two sons, Philip and his wife, Christine, of McLeod, Mont., and Dan and his wife, Christine, of Dover, Del.; a daughter, Mona Furnberg and her husband, Carlton, of Livermore, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Martin and her husband, Oliver, of San Francisco, Calif., and Lorena Dawson, Mobile Ala.; and a sister-in-law, Lorene Mikkelsen of Coral Gables, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers, Soren in infancy, Jens, Christ and Silas; two sisters, Christena Hanson and Hannah Nielsen; and a son, John, in March of 1997.

Charles Gollner

WESLEY _ Charles Gollner, 79, of rural Wesley, died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at the Kossuth Regional Hospital, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Chapel, Wesley, with the Rev. Tim Wilkin officiating. Burial will be with military honors in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlie was born June 27, 1918, on the same farm where he had lived all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Dora, of Wesley; one daughter, Martha Gollner of Gypsum, Kan.; one granddaughter; and one sister, Margaret Hornbuckle, Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parent, stepmother, one brother and one sister.

Roy L. Fritcher

OSAGE _ Roy L. Fritcher, 83, of Osage, died Thursday (Aug. 21, 1997) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Roy L. Fritcher was born June 29, 1914, at St. Ansgar.

LeNora was born Aug. 19, 1906, in rural Joice, the daughter of Alfred and Lena (Iverson) Aasland. She graduated from Lake Mills High School, attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Mason City Junior College. LeNora married Leland Schott on Nov. 29, 1929, in Joice. They established their home in Hanlontown for a short while and spent their remaining years in Joice. LeNora taught in rural schools in Worth County and taught kindergarten in Joice and Lake Mills until retiring in 1971. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice and was actively involved in church circles and ladies aid. She was also a member of the local Ugo-Igo Club.

Survivors include four daughters, Beverly Twedt of Little Rock, Ark., Lois Despenas of Mason City, Barbara Scharf and her husband, Bob, of Des Moines, and Dorothy Medlang of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leland, in 1967; and an infant son, Leland Earl, in 1930.

In 1950, she moved to Mason City where she lived until March of 1995, when she moved to Florida to be near her son and family. Ida was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Royal Neighbors and enjoyed working in her yard and her home.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas D. Norris of Branson, Mo., Ronald Norris and his wife, LaDonna, of Kensett, and David A. Norris and his wife, Donna, of Spring Hill, Fla.; one brother, Carl W. Dreher of Mason City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
