RUDD _ Willard V. DeVries, 82, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Rudd, died Monday (Aug. 4, 1997) Thornton, Colo.

Graveside inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Rudd, with the Rev. Jerry Hilsman officiating.

His body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye St., Nora Springs.

Marie Litterer

CHARLES CITY _ Marie Litterer, 99, of 1411 E. Clark St., died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 1997) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Marie Scheidecker Litterer was born Jan. 6, 1898, in Riverton Township, Floyd County.

She is survived by two daughters, Edna Franke of Charles City and Gladys Stauffer of Greene; two sons, Elmer of Clarksville and Kenneth of Maquoketa; 21 grandchildren; 9 stepgrandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 30 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, two sisters, two brothers, and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth M. Isaac

OSAGE _ Elizabeth M. Isaac, 94, of Osage, died Monday (Aug. 4, 1997) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Visitation Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider, officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today in the Visitation Church basement, Stacyville, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture reading.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth M. Isaac was born Dec. 12, 1902, in Johnsburg, Minn., to Phillip and Katherine Heimer Rauen.

She married John Isaac on Oct. 15, 1924, in Johnsburg, Minn.

She is survived by three daughters, Bertilla Pint, Osage; Esther Mayer of Pekin, Ill.; Lorraine Meitner of Osage; one son, Harold Isaac of Stacyville; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Mary Weber of St. Paul, Minn., Odeala Mauel of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Gertrude Loecher of Adams, Minn.; three brothers, Leo and Joseph Rauen, of Austin, Minn., and Mike Rauen, of Adams, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, Verlyn; four brothers, Henry, Fritz, William and Edward; two sisters, Esther and Rose; and one son-in-law, Kenneth Pint.

Dennis Paul Wilhelm

GOODELL _ Dennis Paul Wilhelm, 68, of Goodell, died Monday (Aug. 4, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Norway Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Dennis Paul Wilhelm, the son of Albert and Della (Kienker) Wilhelm, was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Johnson, Neb. He graduated in 1946 from Vernon High School.

He was united in marriage to Helen Jotten in 1950, and entered the United States Army and served for two years.

After his discharge he worked as a cheese maker in Goldfield, and one year later they began farming east of Belmond.

In 1973, they moved near Goodell where they farmed until his death at his home on Aug. 4, 1997.

Dennis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond and had served his church in many capacities.

He enjoyed his grandchildren and liked teaching them about the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Greg Wilhelm and his wife, Julie, of Goodell; daughter, Pam Hellige and her husband, Dave, of Beatrice, Neb.; grandchildren, Kelly, Alyssa and Joel Wilhelm, Daniel and Jason Hellige; sisters, Lois McAfee and her husband, Bob, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; Arlene Hunter and her husband, Duane, of Ralston, Neb.; Norma Ruberg, of Rushford, Minn.; Margaret Hippen and her husband, Lewllyn, of Humboldt; Elaine Johnson and Joan Larson of Des Moines; Donna Day and her husband, Roger, of Humboldt; Elaine Johnson and her husband, Peter, of Des Moines; Sharon McCormick and her husband, Mike, of Birmingham, Mich; brothers Milton Wilhelm and his wife, Jolene, of Luverne; Loren Wilhelm and his wife, Betty, of Boone; Keith Wilhelm and his wife, Marilyn, of Sac City; Burnis Wilhelm and his wife, Doris, of Tampa, Fla.; Kenneth Wilhelm of Kentwood, Mich.; and Ron Wilhelm and his wife, Theresa, of Lincoln, Neb.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant daughter, Paula, and an infant brother, Wayne.

Dr. V. Strode Hinds

CLEAR LAKE _ Dr. V. Strode Hinds, 69, of Sioux City, formerly of Clear Lake, died unexpectedly Sunday (Aug. 3, 1997).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Sioux City, with the Rev. Doresa Collogan officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of graveside services.

Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Northside Nelson Berger Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m. and 7 p.m. Masonic Rites.

Dr. Hinds was born Sept. 29, 1927, in Clear Lake, the son of Vern and Francis (Strode) Hinds. He graduated from Clear Lake High School.

In 1945, he entered the U.S. Naval Reserves and served until 1946 in Pacific and Southeast Asia aboard the U.S.S. Saufley.

He attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College.

In 1948, he entered the University of Iowa School of Dentistry and received his D.D.S. in 1952 and his M.S. in Oral Surgery in 1954.

He married Beverly Rowland on Sept. 6, 1953, in Osage. They lived in Iowa City, where he taught oral surgery at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry until they moved to Sioux City in 1958. He practiced oral surgery in Sioux City, until his retirement in June of 1992.

He was involved with the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association _ member and trustee, N.W. Iowa Dental Association, Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons _ member and past president, Midwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Diplomat American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, member medical staff of St. Luke_s Medical Center and Marian Health Center, Chamber of Commerce member, Waterways Committee, past president Sioux City Rotary Club, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, member Abu Bekr Shrine, active with Boy Scouts, serving as committee chair and post advisor. He was one of the founders of Rivercade and Port Admiral in 1989. He was a member of the National Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation serving as president in 1981-1982, hosting the National Convention in Sioux City in 1996, and he and his wife received the Meritorious Achievement Award in 1996.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two sons, Mark and his wife, Ann, of Sioux City, and Steve and his wife, Maureen, of DeSoto, Texas; and one daughter, Lynne Hinds Peterson and her husband, Walter; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Katherine and Brad Hinds, of Sioux City, Justin and Jared Hinds, of DeSoto, Texas, and Spenser and Alexis Peterson, of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Dr. C. Edward Anderson, Dr. Darrel Baker, Dr. Wayne Barnes, Dr. Richard Dohrmann, Dr. William Hollander and Dr. Richard Wagner.

Memorials may be given to the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation.

Leota Bookout

MASON CITY _ Leota Bookout, 83, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Sunday (Aug. 3, 1997) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Randy Nielsen, chaplain, Good Shepherd Health Center, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to the Leota Bookout Memorial Fund.

Leota Bookout was born Nov. 15, 1913, in Missouri, the daughter of John and Rose (Barker) Colegrove. Leota was a 34-year employee of J.C. Penney in Mason City, retiring in 1974.

She is survived by a son, Leo Bookout and his wife, Ruth, of Minooka, Ill.; granddaughter, Dana Lill and her husband, Robert, of Yorkville, Ill.; three great-grandchildren; sister, Francis Blake and her husband, Bud; sister-in-law, Kathryn Colegrove; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; sisters, Mercy Wiese and Letha O_Hearn; and brothers, Claude and Carl Colegrove.

Margaret H. Bahlman

NASHUA _ Margaret H. Bahlman, 80, of Nashua, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 1997) at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua and one hour prior to services on Saturday, at the church.

Margaret H. Bahlman was born on Jan. 18, 1917, in Waterloo.

She is survived by two brothers, Albert and Adolph Wolff, both of Charles City; and one sister, Martha Crooks of Ionia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, and her parents.

BRITT _ Rosetta Brown, 78, of Britt, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 1997) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Iona M. Flurer

CLARION _ Iona M. Flurer, 89, of Clarion, died Monday (Aug. 4, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Clarion Church of Christ, with Mark Young officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Iona M. Flurer was born July 4, 1908, in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Stevens, Clarion, and Sally Courtney, Cedar Rapids; one son, Donald of Ukiah, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leo Woodley, Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

James Ralston McMurray

BELMOND _ James Ralston McMurray, 83, of Belmond, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 5, 1997) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Ken Fineran officiating. Interment will be at the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Jim, the son of William J. and Anna C. Fatka McMurray, was born Sept. 11, 1913, in LaCrosse, Wis.

At an early age he moved with his family to Des Moines, then later moved to South Dakota, where he attended country schools.

In 1931, Jim moved to Kanawha.

He was united in marriage with Berniece Prelip on Sept. 29, 1934, in Bethany, Mo.

After living for a period of time in Mason City, Des Moines and Kanawha, the couple settled in Belmond in 1949.

Jim was a life-long farmer.

In 1966, he started driving for Winnebago, delivering recreational vehicles across the nation. This he did for over 20 years, but he really never retired from farming.

J.R. was an avid card player, who also loved fishing and pitching horse shoes.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge in Belmond.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Beavers and her husband, Dwight, of Mason City; Karen Stadtlander and her husband, Tom, of Belmond; three sons, Richard and his wife, Marcia, of Belmond; Larry and his wife, Sharon, of Ackley; Michael and his wife, Vicki of Belmond; a daughter-in-law, Kathy McMurray of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Rhodes of Fertile; one brother, Bernard and his wife, Carol, of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Berniece in 1987; a son, Jerry in 1985; a great-grandchild; and three brothers.

The Rev. Lester L. Petersen

STEWARTVILLE, Minn. _ The Rev. Lester L. Petersen, 77, of 101½ Ninth Ave N.E., Stewartville, Minn., died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Stewartville, Minn., with Pastor Ron Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens at Crystal, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Griffin Funeral Home, 201 Third Ave. N.W., Stewartville, Minn., 55976.

The Rev. Lester L. Petersen was born June 23, 1920, at Butler, S.D.

The Rev. Petersen grew up on the family farm near Bristol, S.D., graduate of Bristol High School, graduate of Augastana College at Sioux Falls, S.D., and Luther Theological Seminary at St. Paul, Minn.

The Rev. Lester L. Petersen was united in marriage on Feb. 2, 1946, at Minneapolis, Minn., to Beverly Roa.

The Rev. Petersen was an ordained Lutheran Minister for over 50 years. He served 10 different parishes. He served at Amby, Minn.; Haiti, S.D., Hanlontown, Iowa; Centerville, S.D. and at East and West St. Olaf Lutheran parishes in Rock Dell, Minn., for over 15 years, until retiring from full-time ministry in 1985.

He continued preaching and serving area congregations on a part-time basis until his death. The Petersens had lived in Stewartville, Minn., since his retirement. Mrs. Petersen was employed by the Sisters of St. Francis at Assisi Heights in Rochester, Minn., as an administrative secretary until her retirement in 1994.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville.

He was an avid golfer, runner, bowler and tennis player.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Stewartville; five sons, David of Grafton, N.D., Tim, of Lincoln, R.I., Dan of LaCrosse, Wis., Jon of Eagan, Minn., and Mark of Minneapolis, Minn.; four daughters, Lynn (Mrs. Gordon) Osthus of Watertown, S.D., Mary Jo Jansen of Champlin, Minn., Lori Pilsner of Plymouth, Minn., and Tami Petersen of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Petersen of Clark, S.D., Ordeen Petersen of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; three sisters, Rose Christensen of Clark, S.D., Thelma (Mrs. Austin) Wicks of Clark, S.D., and Alma (Mrs. Omar) Paulson of Columbia, S.C..

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Ronald Jacob Stricker

NORTHWOOD _ Ronald Jacob Stricker, 72, of rural Northwood, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 1997) at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Allan J. Stoa officiating. Military honors will be held on Saturday at the church and conducted by "Our Buddies" VFW Memorial Post #6779, of Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church. According to the wishes of the family, his body was cremated with inurnment at a later date.

Ronald Jacob Stricker was born on March 15, 1925, in Mason City, the son of Dave and Catherine (Meyer) Stricker. He attended and received his education in the rural Lincoln #9 schools near Mason City.

From 1941 until 1945 he worked as a farm hand for the Kinney Lindstrom farm near Mason City.

He was inducted into the Army Air Force on Feb. 24, 1945 at Fort Snelling, Minn., and served with the 16th Comm. Squadron in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II, attaining the rank of Corporal until his honorable discharge on Dec. 5, 1946, at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

He was united in marriage to Zorka "Irene" Kirchoff on Feb. 8, 1948, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mason City.

After their marriage together, they started farming in 1949 on a farm located northwest of Mason City on the Lehigh Road until 1956, when they moved to a farm near Northwood and continued until the time of his death. During the winter months, he also worked for the Sugar Beet Plant, Decker_s Mfg., and Carroll Sales, all in Mason City.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was known as "The Silver Fox," bowling, snowmobiling and traveling, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and farming.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, life member of "Our Buddies" VFW Memorial Post #6779, in Northwood and was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Zorka "Irene" Stricker, of Northwood; five children, Nick Stricker and his wife, Barb, of Fort Dodge, Sherrie Floy and her husband, Jeff, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Carolyn Chodur and her husband, Steve, of Northwood, Ronnie Stricker and his wife, Vicki, of Northwood, and Katie Stricker and her fiance, Tim Barber, of Pleasant Hill; seven grandchildren, Joe Stricker of Nevada, Chris Chodur of Mason City, Jake Chodur, of Story City, Julie Peterson and her husband, Bryce, of St. Ansgar, John Stricker of Kensett; Nellie Chodur of Northwood, and Samantha Jo Stricker, of Northwood; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Cody Peterson; one sister, Thelma Purviance and her husband, Jesse, of Clear Lake; four brothers, Dave Stricker and his wife, Marie, of Clear Lake, Ralph Stricker and his wife, Geraldine, of Mason City, Ben Stricker and his wife, Mary K., of Mason City, and Harold Stricker and his wife, Mary Ann, of Orchard; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Leah Hage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, husband, and one sister.

MASON CITY _ Nels L. Kittleson, 64, 829 12th St. N.E., , died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at home.

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. _ Henry "Hank" R., 78, of Brooklyn Center, Minn., died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 1997) at Brooklyn Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crystal Lake Funeral Home, Penn and Dowling Avenues North, Crystal Lake. Interment will in the Crystal Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Crystal Lake Funeral Home.

He was a Veteran of World War II. He managed the 7-Up Bottling Co. in Duluth and Coca Cola and 7-Up in Mason City, Iowa. He was employed at the Old Peoria Distribution until retiring.

He played professional baseball and was an avid sports fan.

He was a member of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughter, Henrietta (John) Miller; one son, Scott; two grandchildren; one brother, Walter; and a sister, Phyliss Olund.

ALGONA _ Richard N. Burt, 75, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Algona and a former Algona businessman, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 1997) at the Memorial Hospital in Banell, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Algona Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Carl Gutzman officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 1 p.m. Saturday until 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the Wilson Funeral Home, Algona, and then until time of services at the church.

Richard N. Burt was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Manchester, Iowa, to Neal and Ada (Richardson) Burt.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; twin daughters, Julie (Mrs. Rick) Taves, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joan (Mrs. Ed) O_Reilly, of Burnsville, Minn.; two sons, the Rev. Bill Burt, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Free Church, Mason City, and Tom Burt, Lincoln, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Curtis, Irving, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill.

Roy Christian Boller

GOODELL _ Roy Christian Boller, 80, of Goodell, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Goodell United Methodist Church, Goodell, with the Rev. Ken Fineran officiating. Committal will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated. The Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Roy, the son of Anton and Catherine (Langlitz) Boller, was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Goodell, Iowa.

He attended school in Goodell, graduating from high school in 1935.

He spent two years in the C.C. Camp.

He then worked for General Mills in Belmond for several years and then transferred to General Mills in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was married in the Goodell parsonage to Darlene Paige of Belmond.

He returned to Goodell in 1954 and worked as a custodian in the Goodell Elementary School. He retired in 1979. He continued to make his home in Goodell until failing health, when he moved to the Belmond Health Care Center.

Roy was an avid sports fan, playing high school baseball and basketball. A lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan, he was a member of the I Club, having held season football tickets for 30 years.

Roy also enjoyed playing golf at the Belmond Country Club.

His favorite pastime was driving around in his car looking at the crops or seeing what could be seen.

He was a member of the Goodell United Methodist Church.

Roy is survived by one brother, Ken Boller and his wife, Ruby, of Belmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Bill, Tony, Harvey, Eddie, Erwin, Wlater and Wes; and one sister, Lucille.

George M. Manoylovich

HAMPTON _ George M. Manoylovich, 82, of Hampton, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating.

There will be no visitation. Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.

George M. Manoylovich was born April 19, 1915, in Srbobran, Yugoslavia, the son of Milenko Manoylovich and Darinka Pavich. He received his education at the Yugoslavian Military Academy in Belgrade.

He was united in marriage to Elena Miaksin in Austria. They were later divorced.

He was united in marriage to Nena Ivosevich, on March 2, 1987, in Hampton.

He was founder, president and CEO of ABCM Corporation/Nursing Care Management Ltd.

He was a member of the Anchor Lodge #191 of Hampton and a member of the Shriners.

He is survived by his wife, Nena Manoylovich, of Hampton; one daughter, Angela Klus and her husband, Paul, of Mason City; one son, George, and his wife, Diane Nicholas, Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Raymond L. Van Note

MASON CITY _ Raymond L. Van Note, 87, of 416 15th St. S.E., died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 1997) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur, retired pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service, conducted by the Harding Lodge #649 A.F. & A.M. There will be further visitation on Monday until time of services.

Memorials may be given to the V.F.W. in his memory.

Ray Van Note was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Fertile, Iowa, the son of James and Kate (Quackenbush) Van Note.

Ray graduated from Mason City High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Clara Nelson on June 24, 1934, in Mason City.

Ray was a long-time employee of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.

He was a 50-year-member of the V.F.W. and past commander, a member of Brother of Railroad Clerks and a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include 10 nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara in 1984; and six brothers and sisters.

Matthew Michael Olthoff Adkins

MESA, Ariz. _ Matthew Michael Olthoff, infant son of Lori and Jeffrey Adkins, of Mesa, Ariz., was stillborn on July 31, 1997, at Desert Samaritan Medical Center, Mesa.

Matthew was baptized at the hospital. Following cremation, his ashes were scattered in the mountains.

Bernice Avadna Peterson

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. _ Bernice Avadna Peterson, 79, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 1997) at her home.

She was born Dec. 29, 1917, at Manly, Iowa, to the late Frank and Agnes Ankersen Mahn. She was a homemaker.

The body will be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of CedarVale Funeral Home, Hot Springs Village, Ark.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Marion Peterson, Key Largo, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Buss Choyce, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Annie Hansena Lewis

CLARION _ Annie Hansena Lewis, 89, of Clarion, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at the Clarion Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Belmond, with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, with the family present, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Annie Hansena Lewis, daughter of John and Christina (Hillistad) Hill was born July 22, 1908, at Belmond.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond.

Annie was united in marriage to Edward O. Lewis on Dec. 15, 1927.

They farmed together on the Lewis family farm until moving to Clarion in 1982. Edward died Oct. 12, 1986 and Annie continued living in their home until she entered the Clarion Care Center on Feb. 17, 1989.

Surviving Annie are three children, daughter, Elaine Cline of Goodell, and her children, Robert and Hilla Cline, Edward, Christopher, Ali and Mindy, of Rochester, Minn., Jean and Terry Gray, Brian and Eric of Peoria, Ariz.; daughter, Carol Felleer and her husband, Dale, of Belmond, and their children, Michael and Becky Feller, Jason, Kristin, Kieley and Ashley, of Parker, Colo., Cathy and Robert Benzinger and Kovin of Urbandale, John and Cynthia Feller, Andrew, Ben and Jessica of Ames; son, Jerry Lewis of Des Moines and his children, Mary Lewis of Mason City, Ross Lewis of Des Moines; brother, Herbert Hill and wife, Esther of Belmond; and sister-in-law, Adelaide Hill, of Belmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John in 1923, and Christina in 1947; her husband, Edward in 1986; son-in-law, Raymond Cline in 1993; sisters, Josie Hill, 1917, and Carrie Olson, 1941; and brothers, Joseph Hill in 1920, Henry Hill in 1985, and Chester Hill in 1997.

GARNER _ Laura Moll, 95, of Garner, died Friday (Aug. 8, 1997) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Burial will be in the Peace Reformed Cemetery, south of Garner.

Laura May Moll, the daughter of James Hamilton and Minnie (Meyer) Ingram was born Feb. 1, 1902, on a farm east of Garner.

She attended the rural schools of Concord Township.

In 1921, she was married to Edward Greiman at the Peace Reformed parsonage south of Garner. They farmed southwest of Garner. After her husband_s death in 1926 she continued to live on the home farm.

In 1928 she was married to Erwin Moll at the Peace Reformed parsonage. They farmed southwest of Garner until 1945, when they moved into Garner.

Laura worked with her husband in the cornshelling and trucking business for approximately 20 years.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, cooking, crocheting, tatting and playing cards.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Womens Fellowship and was a former member of We Sixties and Grandmother_s Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Condon of Boone, and her two daughters, Connie Condon of State Center, and Carla Murphy and her husband, John, of Ames; a daughter-in-law, Hilda Greiman of Garner; and her five children, Florence Banwart and her husband, Sid, of LaFayette, Ind., Stan Greiman and his wife, Michele, of Garner, Susan Karrer, of Mishawaka, Ind., Glen Greiman and his wife, Terri, of Garner, and Karen Zenor and her husband, Shawn, of Garner; 10 great-grandchildren, Edward Greiman and his wife, Cindy, Angela Homann and her husband, Dave, Heath Greiman and his wife, Tiffany, Matt Greiman and his wife, Angie, Ben Greiman, Heidi Greiman, Kassi Zenor, Amanda Zenor, Brandon Stromer, and Megan Zenor; a great-great-granddaughter, Taylor Homann; a brother-in-law, Elmer Moll and his wife, Dorothy; and a sister-in-law, Iris Greiman.

Nels L. Kittleson

MASON CITY _ Nels L. Kittleson, 64, of 829 12th St. N.E., died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 3 p.m. Moose Lodge service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Nels L. Kittleson Memorial Fund.

Nels was born Feb. 6, 1933 in Mason City, the son of Clarence and Clara (Elstad) Kittleson.

At age of 17, Nels entered the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper ranger during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and various other medals.

He married Deloris Birch on Nov. 27, 1954, in Mason City.

After Nels was discharged, he worked for Jorgenson Construction Co. from 1955-65, then for Henkel Construction Company for 29 years, before retiring in 1995.

Nels was a member of the Moose Lodge #1328, V.F.W. Post #733, Lunker Club and enjoyed fishing in Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Kittleson of Mason City; two sons, Bradly Kittleson of Mason City, and Bruce Kittleson and his wife, Michele, of Osage; five grandchildren, Cody and Travis, of Mason City, and Jonathan, Megan, and Jake, of Osage; mother-in-law, Dorothy Birch of Mason City; two brothers, Laverne "Bud" Kittleson and his wife, Marilyn, of Mason City, and Alfred Kittleson and his wife, Mary, of Delmar; four sisters, Evelyn Callanan and her husband, Bob, of Clear Lake, Lorraine Kingsbury, of Mason City, Margaret Grell, of Northwood, and Beverly Sturges and her husband, Don, of Edina, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Michael D. Schmitt

ROCKWELL _ Michael D. Schmitt, 42, of 20411 140th St., died Friday (Aug. 8, 1997) at his residence.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Stephen L. Meyer celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of the Sacred Heart Parish Center, 316 Third St. North. There will be a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. tonight. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the chapel. Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 Third St. S., is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dean Schmitt was born Dec. 6, 1954, in Mason City, the son of Edward Nicholas and Pauline Eleanor (Quade) Schmitt. He attended grade school at Sacred Heart Elementary in Rockwell, and graduated from Newman Catholic High School in Mason City in 1973. He joined his parents in the operation of the family farm immediately after high school, and remained there until his death. Michael was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was a former member of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Most recently, he steered the operation of the farm toward the production of beef cattle. Michael was just beginning to develop a collection of toy farm tractors.

Living family members include eight brothers and sisters, Gary Schmitt and his wife, Jeannette, of Rockwell, Janice Brighton and her husband, Ralph, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Trish Bean and her husband, Rod, of Johnston, Marlene Paulus and her husband, Al, of Chillicothe, Mo., Dianne Schmitt of Joliet, Ill., Jim Schmitt of Omaha, Neb., Leroy Schmitt and his wife, Beth, of Rockwell, and Kathleen Schmitt of Omaha, Neb.; 16 nieces and nephews; and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, who died June 22, 1996, in Mason City; his father, who died Nov. 17, 1996, on the family farm, rural Rockwell; and one nephew, Andrew Bean.

Marvin Richard Weaver

BUFFALO CENTER _ Marvin Richard Weaver, 75, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at the United Hospital in Blue Earth, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Jim Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Marvin Richard Weaver was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Woden.

EAGLE GROVE _ Betty Amelia Thompson, 70, died Friday (Aug. 8, 1997) at the Hamilton County Public Hospital, Webster City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Betty Amelia Gehler was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Clarion. She attended St. John_s grade school at Clarion. Her family moved to Mason City, where she graduated from St. Joseph_s High School. She attended A.I.B. and then worked for the Civil Service in San Francisco. She returned to Mason City and was united in marriage to Harland H. Thompson on June 21, 1945, at St. Joseph_s Rectory. She moved to Eagle Grove in 1986. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, needlework and quilt making.

She is survived by her four daughters, Susan Thompson of Bancroft; Sherry (Mrs. T. William) Bixby of Eden Prairie, Minn., Sally (Mrs. Michael) Sadler of Eagle Grove, and Synthia (Mrs. Terry) Osborne of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren, Jason and Nancy Bixby of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Joshua Bixby of Eden Prairie, Minn., Hillary Bixby of Eden Prairie, Shawn Rosc of Denison, Amelia Sadler of Eagle Grove, and Erik Sadler of Eagle Grove; and two sisters, Kathleen Bruce of Lake Mills, and Ethel Nelson of Mason City; and a very dear friend and neighbor, Marge Guilc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1979; and one brother, August John Gehler.
