Keith Kinion

MASON CITY _ Keith Kinion, 83, of 1657 Sixth St. S.W., died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph_s Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating.

Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Grundy Center Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service.

Keith_s family requests that memorials be directed to the Keith Kinion Memorial Fund.

Keith Kinion was born Sept. 29, 1913, at Fort Dodge, the son of Clarence and Doris (Campagna) Kinion.

On Nov. 28, 1934, Keith married Evelyn Manske at St. John_s Catholic Church in Waterloo.

Keith was employed by the Soil Conservation Service as a Technical Engineer for 38 years, until his retirement in 1972. He was transferred from Grundy Center to the area office in Mason City in 1960 to work as Terrace Expert for several counties.

In 1968, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in Washington, D.C., from the Secretary of Agriculture for his work with terraces in Iowa.

Keith was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Kinion, Mason City; one son, Kay Kinion and his wife, Lillian, Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Karen Niemants and her husband, Michael, Omaha, Neb., and Karla Goethe and her husband, Allen, Arlington, Maine; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Kurtis, Konnie, Kent, Keith, Katey, Kim, Jacob and James; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kathleen; two sisters, Adele and Betty; and one brother, Kenneth.

Edward D. Hopes

BRITT _ Edward Hopes, 35, passed away Aug. 7, 1997, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, while waiting for a heart transplant.

At Edward_s request, there will be no visitation or services. In place of a service, he wishes that you take a few minutes and think of something you might have done together or some fond memory.

Edward Dean Hopes was born Oct. 24, 1961, in Oskaloosa, to James E. And Charlotte (Monson) Hopes.

Edward was a 1980 Britt High School graduate and a May 1991 graduate of Drake University. He had been employed by Drake University, Harvard University and before his illness, for Sheraton Hotel in Kansas City.

He is survived by his mother, Charlotte, of Britt; and two brothers, Dennis and his wife, Diana and Julie, Carlie and Jennifer, and Bill and his wife, Pat, and boys, Clay, Alex and Jake; and also two dear friends, Todd and Bill.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Frederick M. Marks

CORWITH _ Frederick Marshall Marks, 93, of Corwith, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 1997) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Linda Hansen Bibb and the Rev. David McDonald officiating. Interment will be in the Corwith Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith.

Frederick Marshall Marks was born on July 18, 1904, in Hobart, Okla.

Survivors include his two sons, Fred E. Marks, Petersburg, Ill., and Richard Marks, Corwith; five granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Miller and Ruth Bottorff, both of Springfield, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two sisters, one in infancy.

Rufus R. Rodriguez

MASON CITY _ Rufus R. Rodriguez, 70, of 602 E. State St., died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at his home.

Norma Fingalsen

NORA SPRINGS _ Norma Fingalsen, 78, formerly of Nora Springs, died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Nora Springs Christian Church, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye.

Helen Norby

OSAGE _ Helen Norby, 81, of Osage, died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at Osage. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Champion Funeral Home.

Ralph Hejlik

BRITT _ Ralph Hejlik, 83, of Britt, joined the Heavenly Father Thursday (Aug. 14, 1997) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, with the Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant and with Monsignor John Chihak, the Rev. Marvin Bries and the Rev. Jerry Kopacek, as concelebrants. Burial will be in St. John_s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, with a 3 p.m. rosary by the Rosary Society, a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake service, and a combined rosary by the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Workman_s Lodge at 8 p.m.

Ralph Peter Hejlik, the son of John and Rose (Urich) Hejlik, was born Aug. 18, 1913, on a farm near Duncan. He attended the rural schools of Garfield Township.

On Jan. 7, 1941, he was married to Vlasta "Flossie" Psotka at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan by the Rev. Skulezek. They farmed west of Garner on the Hejlik home farm for 34 of their 54 married years, until 1975, when they retired and moved into Garner.

He worked as a lineman for the Duncan Telephone Company. Ralph started Duncan Farm Service, which was a retail fertilizer and feed business. After his wife, Flossie_s passing in 1995, Ralph moved to Britt.

He was a compassionate man who dedicated the later years of his life to the healthcare of his loving wife, Flossie, his father-in-law and his elder sister.

He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Catholic Workman_s Lodge and Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. Ralph was also a 4-H leader for the Garfield Sluggers 4-H Club, and an Honorary member of the FFA Chapter in Garner and was also a former Garner Rotarian.

He will be deeply missed by his nine children, Gary Hejlik and his wife, Sally, of Britt; Kenneth Hejlik and his wife, Charlotte, of Britt; Audrey McEnany and her husband, James, of Cedar Rapids; Col. Dennis Hejlik and his wife, Sandy, of Washington, D.C.; Larry Hejlik and his wife, Cindy, of Garner; Mary Best and her husband, Larry, of Guymon, Okla.; Ralph Hejlik Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of West Des Moines; Robert Hejlik and his wife, Deb, of Nashua; and Greg Hejlik and his wife, Mary, of Quincy, Ill.; 31 grandchildren, Cynthia Utley, Lori DeKruif, Donald Hejlik, Michelle Gjerde, Mark Hejlik, Thomas Hejlik, Capt. Esta M. Holtz

CHARLES CITY _ Esta M. Holtz, 95, a resident of the Salsbury Baptist Home, formerly of 615 Fifth Ave., died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery and the Rev. Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Esta Marie Sigler Holtz was born Feb. 25, 1902, in LeRoy, Ill.

Survivors include a daughter, Colleen Scholle of Swaledale; two grandchildren; and a brother, LaVern, and a sister, Wonda Johnson, both of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandchild, three brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the Heart to Home Hospice of Charles City.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Norby Jerabek of Orlando, Fla., and Carol Norby Dodds of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Terry Hartwig of Clinton, Miss., and James Hartwig of LaHabra, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first and second husbands, one grandson and one brother.

Hattie E. Ridder

GARNER _ Hattie E. Ridder, 96, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at the Concord Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Hattie Elizabeth Ridder, the daughter of Fred and Cecelia (Nesbit) Gates, was born Oct. 1, 1900 on a farm southeast of Garner. She attended the rural schools of Ell and Avery Townships. On Feb. 10, 1921 she was married to Ben Ridder at the home of her parents in Ingram, Wis. in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister, Mattie, who married Ben Riemer. Hattie and Ben farmed in Liberty Township, west of Klemme, and purchased a farm in 1941. They farmed for 38 years and in 1959 retired and moved to Klemme. She enjoyed helping others, taking them to appointments and helping them in their homes.

Hattie was a faithful member of the Liberty Township Methodist Church and later at the United Methodist Church in Klemme. She was also a member of the Klemme American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Gast of Garner; a son, Elwyn Ridder and his wife, Avalon of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Kathryn Hefti and her husband, Harold, and their daughter, Janessa of Baxter, Minn., Doran Gast and his wife, Marilyn and their sons, Clifford and Curtis of Stillwater, NY., and Eldon Gast and his wife, Clara Jane and their sons, Jed and William of Garner; her twin sister, Mattie Riemer of Garner and a sister, Margaret Reis of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Helen Gates of Halsy, Ore., and Mabel Ridder of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben on Feb. 21, 1962; a sister, Cora Schaefer; and twin brother and sister, Lawrence Gates and Florence Martinson.

Mrs. Norma June Fingalsen

LITCHFIELD, Minn. _ Mrs. Norma June Fingalsen, 78, of 61059 200th St., formerly of Nora Springs, died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at Abbot Northwest Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Nora Springs Christian Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Greg Lugn officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation was held Sunday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.

Memorials may be given to the Nora Springs Christian Church in honor of Norma June Fingalsen.

Norma was born June 27, 1919 in Floyd County, the daughter of Richard and Mae (Dean) Schutz. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1936. Norma married Elmer Fingalsen Dec. 25, 1939 in the Nora Springs Christian Church.

The couple farmed north of Nora Springs for several years. They moved into Nora Springs in 1958 and in the spring of 1992 moved to their present home in Litchfield.

Norma enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, cooking for her family, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Nora Springs Christian Church, Christian Church Women_s fellowship, and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Nora Springs.

Norma is survived by her husband Elmer Fingalsen of Litchfield, Minn.; two sons, Tom Fingalsen and his wife, Marcia of Mason City and Jim Fingalsen and his wife Nancy of Litchfield, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Bruce, Bryan, Travis, Shane, Stephanie, Tami, Toni and Tara; five great-grandchildren, Dillon, Jessica, Blake, Travis, and Kegen; and one step-sister, Bonnie Nelson of Eldorado Springs, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents one sister Elsie Schutz, two step fathers, Fred Zastrow and Fred Ginapp.

Roger E. Stohr

St. ANSGAR _ Roger E. Stohr, 68, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 1997) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of St. Ansgar; and three brothers, William of Nashua, Glenn of Charles City, and Curtis of Novada, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Randy S. Urbatsch

MANKATO, Minn. _ Randy S. Urbatsch, 43, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 1997) at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Albert Lea, Minn., with the Rev. Greg Ciesluk officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 525 West Clark St., Albert Lea, Minn.

Randy was born in Albert Lea, Minn. on Aug. 21, 1953, the son of Robert and Fern (Harman) Urbatsch. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea, Minn. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and Mankato State University. On Aug. 18, 1984 Randy married Kathy Hanson in Lanesboro, Minn. He was a sales representative for Gourmet Award Food, St. Paul, Minn. Randy has been a resident of the Mankato area for many years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.

Randy is survived by his wife, Kathy of Mankato, Minn.; his mother, Fern of Albert Lea, Minn.; mother-in-law, Charlotte Hanson of Lanesboro, Minn.; grandmother, Eva Harman of Plymouth; one brother, Steven Urbatsch and his wife Susan and their children Eva and Robert of Mason City; two sisters, Nancy Flann and her husband Larry and their children Rachel and Kyle of Wichenburg, Ariz., and Lori Ogle and her husband Dennis of Gainesville, Fla.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Robert; grandparents; and father-in-law, Gordon Hanson.

Randy was a loving son and husband and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

HAMPTON _ Owen J. Stackhouse, 75, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 1997) at Hampton Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Dumont, with the Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating. Inurnment will be in Dumont Cemetery, Dumont.

There will be no visitation.

Owen was born Nov. 21, 1921 in Shell Lake, Wis.

Survivors include his wife, Oneta Stackhouse of Hampton; one brother, Boyd Stackhouse of Bettendorf; two sisters, Fletta Alford of Independence, Calif. and Bernice Griffith of Joshua Tree, Calif.; stepmother, Dorothy Stackhouse of Dumont; two stepsisters, Marjorie Durand of Dumont and Carol Aldinger of Mesa, Ariz.; and one stepbrother, Harley Ubben of Portland, Ore.

Savanah Lynn Bradshaw

GREENE _ Savanah Lynn Bradshaw, 14 months old, of 207 S. First St., died Saturday (Aug. 16, 1997) at St. Mary_s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Agape Christian Family Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor David Toyne officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials may be given in her name.

Savanah was born June 11, 1996, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, in Mason City, the daughter of Jason and Julie (Osborn) Bradshaw.

She will be remembered for her hugs and kisses, as well as her adorable dimple. Savanah loved to dance and enjoyed playing with her brother and sister.

She is survived by her parents, Jason and Julie of Greene; a brother, Spencer; and a sister, Sydney, both at home; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Margo Hannah of Forest City; paternal grandparents, Gary and Dureen Bradshaw, of Clear Lake; great-maternal grandparent, Theo Osborn of Wilmar, Minn.; five uncles and aunts; 14 great-aunts and uncles; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert Osborn.

Jerome John Clausen

NAPLES, Fla. _ Jerome John Clausen, 67, of Naples, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 1997) at a Naples hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Pittman Funeral Home, Naples.

Jerome was raised in Plymouth, Iowa, at the home of Leo and Josephine Johnson, where he finished high school and farmed.

He had resided in Naples for 35 years, where he owned and operated Clausen Construction Company since the 1960s.

He enjoyed the warm winters and loved the ocean.

Jerome is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Lang and her husband, Richard; a son, Mark Mostrom and his wife, Cindy; five grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Susie Terrones and her husband, John; a stepson, Mike Tillman; two sisters, Lee Jensen of Utah, and Irene Gemmel of Minnesota; and one brother, the Rev. Kenneth Clausen of Montana.

Alfred T. Olson

OSAGE _ Alfred T. Olson, 87, of Osage, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Alfred T. Olson was born Feb. 6, 1910, near Merora in Mitchell County.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Bighley, of Lenexa, Kan., and Patricia Schulz, Taft, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, one granddaughter, five brothers and four sisters.

HAMPTON _ Dorothy Poley, 76, of Hampton, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Dorothy Poley was born April 1, 1921, in Franklin County.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Verna C. Kain

ALGONA _ Verna C. Kain, 84, of Algona, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at the Good Samaritan Center.

Bert Heykants

BELMOND _ Bert Heykants, 86, of rural Belmond, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Immanuel Reformed Church, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery.

Visitation will continue today one hour prior to services at the church.

Bert Heykants, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Peter Heykants, was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Lehr, Ostfriesland, Germany. He received his education there, learning the blacksmith trade.

Under the sponsorship of the late Rev. O.G. Poppen, who was the pastor of Immanuel Reformed Church, he emigrated to America at the age of 18.

Upon the advice of the Rev. Poppen, he worked as a hired hand for the farmers in the area. This was in 1929, when farming was just becoming mechanized so horses were fast fading from the picture.

Bert was united in marriage to Martha Dorenkamp on Feb. 26, 1938, at the Immanuel Church Parsonage and he and Martha started farming in the Alexander area.

In 1949, they purchased their present farm and moved there. To this union, one son, Ronald was born.

Bert and Martha were retired from farming, but continued to live on the farm, where Bert died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; grandchildren, Kristi Heykants, of St. Paul, Minn., and Blaine Heykants, of Iowa City; a brother, Peter Heykants, in Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ronald in 1992; two sisters; and three brothers.

Claude A. Reynolds

MASON CITY _ Claude A. Reynolds, 83, of 304 Third St. N.E., died Sunday (Aug. 17, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John_s Episcopal Church, 120 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Robert Towner officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Claude A. Reynolds Memorial Fund.

Claude was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Rockford, the son of Orville and Emma (Schwandt) Reynolds.

Claude attended school in Rockford and following school was employed by Oliver and International Harvester Farm Implement.

He married Shirley E. Dobson on May 11, 1947, in Mason City.

Claude resided in the North Iowa area his entire life, then settled in Mason City in 1987.

He was a self-employed carpenter throughout his life becoming a true craftsman.

Claude was a member of St. John_s Episcopal Church, North Iowa Genealogy Society and dearly loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. Reynolds, Mason City; daughter, Mary L. Reynolds, Kingman, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Reynolds of Thornton; grandchildren, Sherry Sandvik, Randy, Tim, Jeff and Buddy Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Keila, Jennifer, Lee, Justin, Colette and Coton; one great-great-granddaughter, Madeline; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Russell; and one son, Lee.

Rufus R. Rodriguez

MASON CITY _ Rufus R. Rodriguez, 69, of 602 E. State St., died Friday (Aug. 15, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Covenant Church, Highway 18 East and South Ohio Avenue, with the Rev. Richard Murray officiating, with a flag folding ceremony performed by the Mason City Memorial Association.

After the service, his wish was to be cremated. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Rufus R. Rodriguez Memorial Fund.

Rufus was born July 3, 1927, in Houston, Texas, the youngest of 12 children, to Luciano M. And Navora (Reyes) Rodriguez. He graduated from Sam Houston High School, Houston, Texas.

As a young man, he joined the U.S. Army, where he learned his trade as a welder, doing his apprentice in the shipyards.

After the service, he moved to Chicago where he met and married Sophie Person in 1951, and they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where he worked as a welder and they established their family.

Several years later, he and his wife separated and he moved to Minneapolis, Minn. While living there, he worked for and retired from Le Juene Co. For the past 10 years, he had called Mason City his home.

Survivors include his wife, Sophie Rodriguez, Sioux Falls, S.D., eight children; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters; numerous nieces and nephews, of which Vera Castro was special in his heart; and his friend and longtime companion, Bess Schmidt of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Ruth Evelyn Woods

HAMPTON _ Ruth Evelyn Woods, 82, of Hampton, died Monday (Aug. 18, 1997) at Franklin General Hospital.

There will be private family services. The Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Ruth Evelyn Woods was born July 17, 1915, in Eagle Grove.

Survivors include one brother, Milford Morgan, Fort Dodge; and four sisters, Alma Woods, Hampton; Alice Morgan, Highland, Calif.; Olive Putnam, Goldfield, and Wilma Wray, Highland, Calif.

James Norman

BRISTOW _ James Norman, 94, of Bristow, died Monday (Aug. 18, 1997) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Neighborhood Bible Church, Hampton, with Pastor Richard Parker officiating.

James Norman was born Jan. 17, 1903, in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include four granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Donald O. "Marti" Martin

MANKATO, Minn. _ Donald O. "Marti" Martin, 70, of Mankato, died Tuesday morning (Aug. 19, 1997) at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato, with the Rev. Steven Berkeland officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

If so desired, memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church or the Salvation Army.

Mr. Martin was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, to Oscar L. Martin and Ellen (Swenson) Martin. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

He was united in marriage to Mary C. Brewer on June 8, 1948, in Clear Lake, Iowa. They lived in Mason City, Iowa, where he was a member of the Mason City Fire Department for 10 years.

In 1964, they moved to Mankato. He owned and operated Marti_s Pizza until he retired in 1985.

He was a member of the Christ the King Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge.

He was a member of the Mankato Chamber of Commerce, past-president of Manufacturing & Wholesalers Association and past-president of the Ambassadors.

He enjoyed hunting, cooking, photography and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; one daughter and her husband, Susan and Neal Benson, of North Mankato; one son, Michael Martin, Bellingham, Wash.; three granddaughters, Kristin, Heidi and Meredith Benson; his mother, Ellen Martin, of Mason City, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Dixie and Rolly Bloomfield, Mason City, Iowa; and LaMae and Maurice Goeders, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

CLARION _ George A. Stupka, 81, of Clarion, died Monday (Aug. 18, 1997) at the Clarion Health Care Center.
